Our President is giving the speech of his life right now!

You can feel the partisan anger in the room, but Obama is standing in front of them with his heart revealed to all and his compassion bringing power to his words.

If the Republicans still fight him on health care after this it will demonstrate to all just how hypocritical and duplicitous they are.

I will embed the speech when it become available. You simply must see it.

Watch for the Palin smackdown at 26:30. Damn that is satisfying!

Congressman Wilson of South Carolina is the one who yelled "you lie" at 27:10. Asshole.

Bush administration smackdown at 35:30.

The rest of the GOP smackdown at 44:10.

Update: Joe Wilson has apologized.

Beyond fabulous speech. It was fun watching the Republicans sit on their hands. And who was Eric Cantor texting throughout the speech.

This was the Barack Obama that I voted for as my Illinois Senator in 2004. This was the Barack Obama I worked my heart out to support for President in 2008. Great.

  2. Wow - however I'm sure the mouth-breathing droolers have chosen to watch FAKE News and "So you think you can dance".

Oh well, you can lead a horse to water...

Great speech (I want to know who yelled "you're a liar"). The man is amazing - now if he could ONLY truly be the President we all elected.

Grow a pair Obama...stand up to the morons. It could very well BE your legacy.

It was a fabulous speech. The peroration, with the letter from late Sen. Ted Kennedy, was awe-inspiring. Thank you, President Obama.

The GOP rebuttal was so bad from that rep from Louisiana. But that's the best they can do.

  4. I loved the part where he called out Sarah Palin on her lies!! "It's not just coming from radio and TV hosts, it is coming from politicians...and it is a lie!"

I cheered out loud at that!

I like the GOP's choice of Dr.Boustany to offer their point of view. Keith Olbermann is so fast on the google- Dr. Boustany was sued successfully in 3 malpractice suits. One guy got $1.2 million from complications in a bypass operation. You can read the whole article in Politico.

It was a great speech Gryphen, ey? One thing the haters just don't realize about Obama and that through all his experiences he is a very compassionate individual. Health Care IS truly a moral issue not one of party, politics, religion, race, creed, sex or status. It's a human issue.

I have to say looking out at the members of Congress I couldn't help but notice that a large majority of those making the decisions for us are over 60 years old and many have been there far too long.

Are these 'seniors' the best to represent America? This new America of technology and challenges not ever faced by these same senior members? I have to say no, it's not regardless of party. Time to get some new, fresh ideas in D.C.

And what was with the booing and the guy yelling "you're a liar"? This is not the

I was hoping that the president would speak up for the public option. Instead, by saying that it will be available only for people without insurance (as opposed to, say, people whose private insurance would be more expensive or would provide less coverage than a public option) he weakened the public option even beyond the way it's been weakened in other health care bills.

It is possible to disagree without being a low class rude arrogant prick and I can double-damn guarantee you that his mother is either embarrassed beyond belief or rolling in her grave.

    Rude ... Disrespectful.

No one objects to a disagreement. Was it necessary to yell out your disrespect on the floor of congress.

Send him a note and tell him how inappropriate he was calling the president a liar. What a jerk!! Even if he thinks he is a liar or disagree that is not the way you talk to the president of our country. How disrespectful! The majority of Republicans look like a bunch of white pasty good ole boys!! Blchhh!! Are they KKK members too?

I am glad he called out Sarah for the liar she is and her article did nothing! People just say there's Sarahs ghostwriter again. And wow Sarah really is obsessed in an icky way with President Obama! Even her ghostwriter comes across as a teenager who didn't win class president last year but sure you betcha will try to win next time!! And Replacing Medicare with vouchers???? Wow - our neighbors probably know where I stand about his speech because I was cheering so loudly - hooting and hollering and doing a happy dance.

Oh, by the way - for those of you who didn't see the Rachel Maddow Show tonight, try to check out what she said about Senator David Vitter. He sent out a fundraising letter full of lies, the same lies that Palin has been spouting and then some. If you are so inclined, I urge you to go to his website and let him know that he will now be known as The Big Sleazy -- Maddow's nickname for him. I still remember how he humiliated his wife by having her stand by his side while he "apologized" for being caught in the DC Madame scandal. Yep, The Big Sleazy is now trying to lie about President Obama's health care reform package.

She is obsessed with President Obama and continues to lie on her facebook page or her ghostwriter does. She is lying about what Medicare vouchers are. As someone with Medicare, I know. We already have a choice of various plans and the government plan is much better than the private choice. I don't need a piece of paper and please do not take away my government plan. Disabled people have Medicare and we are left out. Sarah doesn't have a clue. She clearly does not understand the programs so her ghost writer is uninformed therefore also too. My daughter was watching the speech with me and asked if it was OK for someone to yell that the President is a liar during his address to Congress. I assured her it was not OK and told her I did not believe it had happened before. Since when did conservatives and religious people become so crude and vulgar? Seriously, when did churches start working so hard to foment anger? I was shocked. How about the "family values" assemblyman from Orange County who resigned in CA today because he was caught on tape talking about sex and spanking with two married lobbyists. Are there so few decent people in politics anymore? This is scary. The President, on the other hand, was classy, measured and brilliant. Thank God!

my parents (and gryph) got the first man on the moon and woodstock (but had the kennedy assignations, vietnam, and reagan/cold war politics), i feel like all of the "historic times" of my life are tragedies...except obama. and i'm from IL and voted for him as senator too. i think this way of thinking leads to expecting his presidency to be idealistic and superhuman, which i know can't happen, but i just want to be able to someday say "i remember when..." and not be talking about a tragedy.

i hope with all my heart that the far right, as they show off more of their potentially violent unhingedness, do not try to physically hurt our president or his family, or anyone else, i'm terribly sick of tragedies.

Gryphen, I agree--a great speech tonight. Obama is back, in a big way. I can't help recalling, though, earlier today, your (our) anxiety over Palin's signature on the Afghanistan support letter. Your words were, "Uh, oh, this can't be good."

But look how a few hours can completely change the mood. The Wilson "You're a liar!" outburst brought everything into perspective: The Republicans are nothing but a pack of fools and clowns. Palin. Wilson. "Lord" Boutsany. The Cal. state senator. And that's just the list for today!

Andrew Sullivan has a perfect label for Obama's strategy with Republicans/opponents--"Rope-a-Dope"--which is relevant to your efforts to gather information on Palin. The dope, i.e., Palin, is on the ropes. Just be patient, spring the facts at the right time, and she won't be able to stagger back.

Great historic speech. So wonderful to have a literate and articulate president. Wilson from SC picked the wrong pres and wrong time to call the president a liar. 72. I left a poll on the DailyKos:

Is the Palin Murdoch Relationship Symbiosis- or Host Parasite ?

Symbiosis- both feed off of each other's greed and avarice.

Host-Parasite- By the time He's done with her- shel'll be sucked dry like a fly...

    http://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/9/10/779774/-Sarah-Palin-s-Lair

Anyone reading The Trilogy by JRR Tolkien will remember Shelob's Lair.

Basically- a large spider, lying in wait, and bending victims to her will.

    From Wikepideia...

"Shelob's lair was along the path that Sam Gamgee and Frodo Baggins took while travelling to Mount Doom. Her spider-silk, which was spun in both rope and cobweb form, was strong and cleverly made, trapping those who walked into it. Shelob had encountered Gollum during his previous trip to Mordor, and he apparently worshipped her after his fashion. The Orcs of the Tower of Cirith Ungol called her "Shelob the Great" and "Her Ladyship," and knew of Gollum's relationship with her (they referred to him as "Her Sneak"). Sauron himself was aware of her existence, but left her alone, as she was a useful guard on the pass. He occasionally sent her prisoners for which he had no further use."

Now that sounds like a Murdoch-Palin symbiosis... or is it host-parasite?

And yet another response from SP to last nights Obama speech...

"Finally, President Obama delivered an offhand applause line tonight about the cost of the War on Terror. As we approach the anniversary of the September 11th attacks and honor those who died that day and those who have died since in the War on Terror, in order to secure our freedoms, we need to remember their sacrifices and not demonize them as having had too high a price tag."

I just want to say- WTF???

How does he "demonize" our troops? She is a POS and I look forward to when the worm turns for her- and she is finally confronted by someone- face to face.

You guys stop giving Palin any credit and discussing her Facebook rants, please? I promise, if you keep the lights out and don't go in the garage, you never have to be disgusted by the cockroach that lives in there.

Yes, what is it with S.Carolina? Now the head of the State Board of Education, Kristin Maquire, has resigned. She is a conservative, naturally, who home-schools her own children, evangelical-type appointed by Sanford. It seems that in her "other life" she writes a lot of porno on the web! Why are some self-confessed super-christians the worst among us?

Sarah Palin is an embarassment to the Republican party, as well as the doofus who yelled "you lie" last night. However, it doesn't mean ALL republicans are bad. Please don't judge the whole party, based upon a few bad apples.

@6:19, if you are a Republican, it is up to you to take your GOP party back from these extremists who now run it. I do judge your party by Palin and Wilson. This is who the GOP is putting forth as your "leaders," although technically Palin is no longer a politician. I mean, Palin quit so she's not serving the "polis" anymore.

  78. Awesome speech. Especially the end of it. It was very moving bringing up Ted Kennedy like that, and I liked the way Pres Obama was trying to stroke the egos of all the politicians in the room.

I was shocked that someone yelled LIAR during the speech. But the look Obama & Pelosi gave him was beyond awesome. I had read one account over on Huffington Post that Michelle Obama, who was sitting in front of Wilson had mouthed a long 'Daaammmmnnn" after he said it.

Even though Wilson gave a non-apology apology, he will go down in history as the guy who yelled LIAR to the President of the United States on TV, and whenever this speech is watched over and over it will always be there. Karma is a b*tch, huh?

Desparate for attention in toddler mode, Joe Wilson displayed his low intelligence and lower self-esteem. His DELIBERATE and pre-planned "outburst" was a poorly executed piece of stagecraft. It exploited the basic tenet of a civil society, "people are reasonable".

I look for to future appearances by Wilson in House Chambers escorted by two ballifs equipped with tasers.

  80. anon@6:34: Totally agree. We have no choice but the judge the Repukes by the individuals they put forth as their "leaders" and "representatives".

You can't have it both ways. Either you agree with these filth bags, or you put up a human being with values as someone who speaks for you.

As I see it - The dirtbags ARE the Republican Leaders.
