This guy tries to make the case that he is just a normal non-partisan freedom loving American who wants to make sure that our government does not stomp on state's rights or the rights of individual citizens.
In light of what happened during the Bush administration this almost seems reasonable. After all under George W. Bush we had our own government tap our phones, they outed an undercover CIA agent, and we had a President who once referred to the Constitution as "just a goddamned piece of paper".
So for a real patriot I could understand them getting worried about what a President like that might do next and preparing for the worst.
Except Oathkeepers was not formed back in the Bush administration. It was formed in March of 2009.
So with George W. Bush, a man who seemed not to care one little bit about the Constitution, safely out of office why would these men suddenly feel the need to prepare to resist orders that came from their own government?
Why would they fear Barack Obama, a Constitutional scholar, over George W. Bush?
Oh I think you know why.
BTW Matthews did a great job here. This is just one more example of the hate mongering, and racism that we are seeing spread across a certain segment of our country.
Gryphen,
ReplyDeleteI posted a comment earlier about these people( I don't think it ever showed up ) because Sunday one of the comments here mentioned this group. On the 18th there was a story posted in the Las Vegas Newspaper.I think the Oathkeepers saw it or put the word out and told their Klan to hit the comment section because just like Palin-Bots do when they see a story about Sarah they jump in to defend her. They bad mouthed the reporter, The Southern Poverty Law Center for their research and calling them corrupt... etc. Seen THAT tactic before. The story had like 1500 comments... many supporting these whack-job nuts. One person in that comment section said these OathKeepers were responsible for putting out that 2011 Video that you posted last week.It does sound like them. The " Palin Truth Watch " Twitter account has the link to the Vegas paper story. You will find some YouTube clips put out by this group as well. look under " OathKeepersOK ". More Nuts based in Oklahoma. One article said Timothy McVeigh was linked with them.
Oklahoma? Always on the wrong side of history.....and damned proud of it.
ReplyDeleteMatthews got very heated about one point. Okay, several, but one made me go, "Hmm?" He claimed there was no unified government that was working against the people.
ReplyDeleteHmm? We've all watched the war chests grow during the summer, we've watched the public option fade, the terms of the health care bill get watered down. The rhetoric and advertising was different from the two (three, four) sides, but it was all aimed at the same goal. Hooking onto the last scant pennies in the pockets of the poor, the working class and the middle class (I assume there are a few members left) and funneling it into corporate pockets.
The GOP is politically impotent. That's just a fact. The Democrats could have written up a single payer plan with severe penalties for insurance monkeyshines, and hooked it together with a waltz into regulation, in company with every other industry. It could have been done before the break.
But it takes time to schedule pay-offs.
Chris, darlin', I like you. But when my government sells my couch change to the last corporate interest that didn't get to belly up to the bail-out bar -- I call that a 'unified government'. And yeah, while it might not be hiding alien bodies in Fort Knox, I do think its working against me, and everyone around me.
It ain't paranoia if everyone is out to get me. And Reid? He's out to get me. So is his Republican girlfriend from New England, and the mob-owned guy in Nevada who thinks corporations can sanction the rape my daughter with impunity, and so is John McCain, who took my parents' retirement out from under them and years later was still entitled to run for president.
Chris -- they really are out to get us. And that militia guy you painted as loon is just one more of them. Just for fun, let's call him a shadow of the new Republican Party -- advance warning of the misbegotten offshoot called the Theocratic Party.
Oh, I don't know, Gryphen, Chris Matthews did ... all right... but I don't think he dealt with the two questions you asked in your remarks above -- the two paragraphs after your reference to the March 2009 date this group was formed -- or got answers to those questions.
ReplyDeleteIn other words, you hit it out of the park -- Chris Matthews merely moved the runner along, to use baseball figures of speech. You should have been there... :)
Oh, ick. I know I should be more literate, but enough of these eejuts already.
ReplyDeleteGryphen, Off topic, but please link to the new Heather Graham ad for the public option. It's a great ad and we should make it go viral.
ReplyDeleteFollow the money...what do you think this attorney REALLY believes? I would love to know what he is charging for speaking engagements...

Thanks but no thanks to this bunch of losers from Anti-Americaland! The GOP has rebranded their party all right...and the numbers continue to drop. Who (other than ignorant people) would want to be associated with profound ignorance?
Here's what bothered me about this interview: Matthews gave this clown credibility and publicity just by having him on.
ReplyDeleteRather than asking him from the outset if he'd do these things Matthews should have simply asked the guy, "What the hell makes you think Obama would order any of these things in the first place?"
By questioning whether these Oathkeepers should fight if the government stomped all over the constitution he raises into question whether Obama is set to do that.
Matthews finally pressed the guy on this later in the interview, but that should have been the whole crux of the interview. All this does is inflame the very loons this Oathkeeper guy is appealing to.
Honestly, the level of Crazy is spiraling upward at a sickening rate among these conservatives.
I am really wondering how many of these birthers, oathkeepers , teabaggers, have a mental illness, diagnosed or undiagnosed.. . . . Chris Matthews was trying to allude to this question of MENTAL STABILITY when asking."HOW MANY HOURS OF THR DAY DO YOU SPEND WORRYING about the black helicopters, concentration camps, about the abuse of rights, etc....
ReplyDeleteMaybe before someone of these wackos speak on national teevee they should be asked if they have now or ever have been diagnosed with a mental illness . . . .we are allowing these crazies time to promote their obsessive/compulsive disorders. . . .their fears, promote other people's mental illness(diagnosed or undiagnosed) . . . .actions by these groups really promote and bring all these poor souls together to make it okay to obsess over these crazy scenarions.....
I work in the health care field and the incidence of diagnosed and undiagnosed mental illness is rampant in America. . . .

Hello...any attorneys out there? I believe he must be breaking one of the ethical oaths he takes as an attorney. Send complaints to the bar?
