Why do the potential buyers have to be reminded that Palin lived an "American" life? Don't they know she NEVER left America? Or are they not positive that Alaska is IN America?
Or possibly they want to juxtapose it with Obama's book "The Audacity of Hope"because they are all convinced he is a secret Muslim terrorist born in Africa and raised in Hawaii, neither of which (they are convinced) are in America.
I wonder how much racism and evangelical mythology Ms. Vincent will be able to pack in 400 pages of word salad?
Well personally I am going to skip the book and wait for William Shatner's audio version to hit the shelves. Now THAT would be entertainment!
Update: Apparently interest in the book around these parts is sort of uneven.
A woman taking a call at Waldenbooks in Wasilla, Palin's hometown, said she was pre-ordering a copy at that moment and there had been "lots of interest." She would not give her name but referred a reporter to her boss, Borders district manager Grant Larsen, who said interest had been strong both in Wasilla and Anchorage.
"We're very excited about it and already have several signed up," he said. "We're expecting that to be massive."
'
'
Going all mavericky'A lot of people are coming into the store and asking to reserve a copy,
Larsen said. Borders booksellers also are asking customers if they want to reserve one. The more people reserve copies, he said, the more copies the stores will get.
Julie Drake, co-owner of Anchorage's largest independent bookstore, Title Wave, stopped to quiz her booksellers about Palin's book.
"Nobody has said a word. Not a single customer has asked about it. I don't know what that means. Maybe we're all going rogue, going all mavericky," she said.
Hmm well not to be all conspiracy theorist or anything, but if I wanted to artificially inflate the number of books being requested it seems logical to focus on the big book selling outlets, like Borders and Waldenbooks, and forget the smaller outlets like Title Wave Books.
Not that I am positive that is what we are seeing here but to be clear, the Wasilla Waldenbooks "expects that to be massive" and Title Wave Books has not had a "single customer ask for it". Make of that what you will.
And not to pick on MSNBC or anything, but here in Anchorage the biggest book store is the ginormous Barnes & Noble, which would seem like the logical choice to check how pre-orders are going. Who even goes to Waldenbooks anymore?
Update2: Keith also talks today about Sarah Palin's ghostwriter and discusses the mechanism for making a book no.1. Hmm where have I seen that discussed before?
Visit msnbc.com for Breaking News, World News, and News about the Economy
My first impression when I saw Sarah's cover photo was that the "rouge" was a perfect match with her bright red jacket. In French, is Sarah going Red? I know that she can see Russia, but were they able to brainwash her??
ReplyDeleteI would just like to shut JUJU up and settle this once and for all. First of all Amazon has a bulk ordering tool where regular joes can order up to 100 copies at a time. A corporate account can order 1000 at a time. I emailed amazon to find out about bulk orders and if they affect sales rankings, here is their response. Eat this JUJU...
ReplyDeleteThank you for contacting us at Amazon.com.
I have gone through your email and noted the contents. Please note that the bestsellers on Amazon.com are calculated based on the sales volume for any particular title. In regard to bulk orders, I would wish to clarify that bulk orders do get considered for calculating sales rank of any item. As the sales rank depends on the sales of item and not depend on number of orders, all the sales of the item including the sales in bulk orders will be used for calculation purposes. In order to address your last question "Do you specify at all that bulk orders were part of the total sales in the book details", I would like to clarify that we do not specify anywhere that bulk orders are part of total sales. The sales information for any title is not made available to the customers or other selling parties as we consider this information confidential for suppliers.
So from the horses mouth... bulk orders do get counted per item in sales ranking. So #1 can easily be manipulated by bulk ordering.
Perhaps because if you don't live your life like her you're NOT living an American life.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to know why she posed for the cover in a hoodie. Are jogging outfits haute couture for Alaska. I also don't think the color is very flattering to her. A little too orange.
Obvious flag pin. And for the Xians, the cloudy sky background. And for the old white, Republican men with the hots for her....they can imagine her zipping that hoodie just a little lower and she doesn't have anything on underneath.
Look for a pile of them on a extreme discount, final mark down table in a bookstore near you.
I would wait for from the library, but then I would probably be 200 in queue for it and by the time I got to everyone would be saying, "sarah who?"
ReplyDeleteBrought to you by priceline.com!
ReplyDeleteI'm a negotiator, not a doctor! ;-)
-ske in atx
Doesn't look like a hoody to me -- probably your basic polar fleece/poly pro running jacket.
ReplyDeleteShe has no boobs and the hoodie looks like it needs ironing. Based on the color of the hoodie, I think she misspelled the name of the book. It really was meant to be "Going Rouge: An American Lie."
ReplyDeleteI don't see a booger up her right nostril in THIS picture.... :D
ReplyDeleteWell, can there be any more dark clouds in the sky above and behind her? Sarah Palin is story weather, baby! What a terrible cover!
ReplyDeleteBuy this book if you want to read about trouble! (Reminds me of the turkey slaughter footage in 11/08).
Sarah, grab an umbrella fast! And watch out for the lightning!
An American Life + flag pin?!? For the literacy-challenged? And it doesn't look like she's wearing a shirt underneath, but the shadow hints at cleavage. Really subtle.
ReplyDeleteRedhaead: I saw your comment on Amazon, heh! You go girl!
ReplyDeleteKO tonight taling about 400 pages of "Word Salad" and made a point to add "also" lolololol
Does she really think she is fooling anyone????
Blathering idiot, LMAO!
Rogue: a dishonest, knavish person; scoundrel. Quite appropriate, I should say.
ReplyDeleteY'all don't get it: the bad news clouds are part of her package! Remember, she's selling fear, ugliness, and punishment with sex and stupidity. Her base loves it!
ReplyDeleteuh oh and OT - tried to open Bree Palin blog and got message "Bree Palin's blog does not exist."
ReplyDeleteSame thing happened last week, and it was just a glitch. Anyone else having this problem?
I believe everyone is mistaken in their definitions of "rogue". 'Going rogue' uses the word as a descriptor - so ...
ReplyDelete"rogue
adj.
1. Vicious and solitary. Used of an animal, especially an elephant.
2. Large, destructive, and anomalous or unpredictable
3. Operating outside normal or desirable controls

McCain talks about Palins book... http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032608/vp/33120642#33120642 ..... a interview with the Meet the Press guy...
ReplyDeleteWasilla 'Rogue' the high school cheerleader!
ReplyDeleteSelf-Centered Diva!
A book filled with word salad about her
uneventful life. Oh dear...what a boring
book!!
Bree, is your blog down again?
ReplyDeleteAn American Life.... with a husband who belonged to a group who hated America and wanted to secede. I refuse to buy the book, or her lies.
ReplyDeleteFor heaven's sake $arah, is it too much trouble to have your bangs trimmed and not clumped and straggly. Sorry, petty perhaps, but it speaks to her utter inattention to the smaller, refining things in her life. Oy, what a putz! Little rant over. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI know the dictionary definition of rogue. However, after watching the Alaskan bloggers Moore and Devon on MSNBC, explain the ironic meaning of the word and what it meant to Alaskans,I am astounded that this would be the book's title. It is a joke. John McCain's team used the word rogue, it wasn't a compliment. Tina Fey used the term in a SNL skit, itwasn't a compliment. We know Sarah Palin does not read and cannot write. We can now add to the list:
ReplyDelete1. She does not use a dictionary.
2. No understanding of the defintion of rogue and irony.
3. No understanding of the definition of compliment.
Is she being setup to fail by Rupert Murdoch?
Newspapers that he owns are now printing critical articles.
Did he become disconcerted that this diva could not be controllled?
Rupert Murdoch backed a dead horse. From all reports, she bombed in Hong Kong. It would take too long to explain. If he thought that the speech in HK would give her a boost in the U.S., it did not. It was a joke. So, bring out the book earlier than expected. Tell people, that she worked non-stop on her memoirs. Given SP's habit of quitting ..........when thing get too tough, most people were not buying it..........Introduce the real woman who wrote the book. Lynn Vincent. Yes, this helped. This women was exposed on MSNBC as well as other media outlets. She worked with racist authors.
Rupert Murdoch has exacted his revenge.... he has reviled her before the book is published. People are buying this book for many reasons...........As long as he makes a profit on the book. He does not care.
My she's flat as a board! what an unattractive outfit to pick for a cover shot. Her sales will be down now with repuglican men, no naughty monkey shoes you betcha. And now the new rumor--she's trying to find a company to peddle lipstick!! None of her followers have ever paid more than $3 for one is their lives. LOL!! If she's sinking that low she must be owing people quite a few hushmoney bribes!
ReplyDeleteDid they, like, photoshop away her breasts along with her wrinkles and sags?
ReplyDeletePlease check out the Urban Dictionary definiton of "going rouge."
ReplyDeleteWhen I think of An American Life, the first couple of things that I think of are:
ReplyDeleteA son who may have been involved in vandalism. while others receive punishment, he is sent to another high school out of state.
A daughter who bore a child out of wedlock or
A daughter who may have born two children out of wedlock, and in return gets a beautiful house, car, a nanny to help with the kids.
A daughter who is used as a prop for speeches, appearances, campaigns and rarely attends school
An infant son who is used as a political prop
A couple that is rumored that be having marital trouble
A father who tells wildly embellished stories
A husband who proudly belongs to a group dedicated to being independent of the US
Yup, I can identify with that family. Just like yours and mine. We can all relate.
Where's her Crunchwrap Supreme?
ReplyDelete@6:47, thanks for that comment. I see what you mean. The Apocalypse is gathering behind her and that appeals to the Sarah Rapture crowd. Stormy weather signals "end times" to them. Good point.
ReplyDeleteWhat, no bumpit or naughty monkey shoes? I guess the photoshop person cleaned up the booger-nose she is occasionally seen modeling.
ReplyDeleteAs for the chapter of her adventures on the McCain campaign - possibly the crappiest campaign in the last hundred years. She had about five days of being "golden" before "The Little Shop of Horrors" opened the door for business. It all went downhill from there.
After the "diva" leaks everyone was freaked out about who was "loyal" or not. Everyone's email was looked over for suspicious activity. It was like being trapped in a surreal Kafka play.
There is no way in hell she can spin those months into a fluffy ball of sweetness and light, unless she concentrates on how she and her family were waited on hand and foot; and the fun times when she would slip out of her "Civics 101" lessons to shop, sweet talking a junior aide into putting it on his credit card. Ah, the joy of swindling your own party.
What the rebugs always say is that libs are scared of Palin. They are happy that she will make millions. But they don't stop to think that the money is coming from the people that love her. Noew I voted for Obama, glad I did. I feel that he is tring to do his best. Just imagine Maccain and her in the White House. Him wanting to fight the world, and her waning to change evaloution. Does anyone think that Palin could go to the congress and influence anything. It would be a total embarresment to the country. She skrewd Alaska for profit and she would screw the country for the same thing.
ReplyDeleteShe takes pride in (supposedly) having a special needs baby. Can any rebug say that they thnk she is a loving and doting mother.
No you say the husband should share also. I argee. But both are on the money trail. So is any one concerned with the kid, who is giving him therapy. Thats something you as a real mother cannot pass on. It is her job according to the Bible that she proffesses to follow. The mother nurthers the child. Fake Christians I guess
Well, they found a real nice picture for her book cover. That won't make up for the lack of substance and fact found on the 400+ pages of the ninja-written attached "book".
ReplyDeleteI predict this book will sink faster than Joe the Plumber's did. Her crazy followers will buy and read it but the independents and intellectual conservatives will blow it off. Whatever is in this book will be comedic fodder and political ammunition in the next couple of years. Mark my words.
That is the CHEESIEST book cover I have ever seen! It looks like a SEARS photo...fake backdrop and over lit face. And SUPER creepy! Just gross all around. I just threw up a little in my mouth...
ReplyDeleteI am sure a few are ordering this piece of trash for entertainment purposes. I wish I could do this same, but I am an avid reader and cannot NOT finish a book I start. I know without seeing it I could never actually read all the drivel this poor pathetic creature and her ghost writer have typed.
ReplyDeleteI don't think sociopaths usually get to the best sellers list much less remain there for any length of tie. She may be the first. LOL
Once in a while you can find a pre-publication book in bound galleys (typically sent to possible reviewers) on eBay. They are marked ARC, for "advance reading copies." So I gave it a try on eBay. No ARCs, but someone is flogging $P's "book" at $25 a pop. I clicked on the link, and said seller will ship "after I receive them," after the official pub date of November 17. Some scam, given that Amazon's price is $15-something!
ReplyDeleteDAVID BROOKS's NYT OP-ED this morning makes sense, which is rare; its title: THE WIZARD OF BECK.
ReplyDeleteanyway, you might want to read it. one comment on it, i want to share, very insightful as to our cause:
clearthinking1:
Limbaugh, Beck, Palin, Kristol are not powerful, but represent powerful emotions. They voice the frustrations of those who are losing power in America and don't know how to handle it gracefully.
This is the beauty of America - always changing itself, always redefining itself, and always recalibrating its power structure.
Frustrated, angry people who have had power can be dangerous and destructive, so let's remain vigilant. And, as President Obama said, let's "call them out" when they lie.
"Rogue" is spelled R-O-G-U-E. Meaning getting all mavericky, as in the stupid title of her book.
ReplyDelete"Rouge" is spelled R-O-U-G-E. Meaning makeup. Let's keep these words straight and not switch them around unless we're trying to be ironic, lest we fall into the Trig/Trigg/Trip/Tripp interchangeability trap.

ReplyDeleteMcCain talks about Palins book... http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032608/vp/33120642#33120642 ..... a interview with the Meet the Press guy...
You really should post this video of McCain looking right into the camera (well maybe not looking directly into it; he may have averted his eyes as people will do when they are lying) and answering David Gregory's question "Do you think Sarah Palin is qualified to be President of the United States?" His answer will nauseate you.
yeah, Juju and her cultistas spit that we are afraid of Sarah, never realizing that their own party is the only culprit in taking Sarah down. The leaks that destroyed her came from her own party, just as they did in Alaska during all of the many gates.
ReplyDeleteBut the cultistas believe everything Sister Sarah whines about, so they never check facts. Like Andree M being a Republican and old friend of Sarah's, along with hundreds of other disenchanted old friends who are also Republicans in AK who saw through Sarah after getting knifed in the back.
Johnny isn't going to forgive and forget, and neither will the party. They may despise Johnny for his mavericky ways and his black baby, but they hate Sarah even more for being a woman who doesn't listen, learn or puppet well. That was cute when they could own it, but about 2 days, but when the cat got out of the crazy bag, it was all over for narcissist sarah.
I mean, this is a woman who honestly blames Katie Couric for her own failure to answer a question about what she reads. Have you ever heard anything so mentally ill and out of touch in all of your life?
Todd is quitting his job...!
ReplyDeleteIn anticipation of the child support and spousal support he will get from her, or something else?
http://www.alaskadispatch.com/news/politics/2215-todd-palin-resigns-oilfield-job
No need to work any longer now that the Mrs is rolling in the big bucks?
ReplyDelete***********************************************
Todd Palin won't be pulling a hard-core winter shift on Alaska's frozen North Slope, home to the richest oil fields in the country -- at least not with energy giant BP.
The husband of former Alaska governor and vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin is no longer employed by BP, the energy company confirmed Thursday evening.
Company spokesman Steve Rinehart said Todd Palin submitted his resignation effective Sept. 18. Todd was a production operator on Alaska's North Slope. Production operators manage oil gathering centers, hubs where oil comes together from multiple wells.

Working must be for the "little people".
EOY
I'd bet a lot of money that most of Palin's book orders are from rethug PAC's who will give out a free copy when someone donates money. Or attends a fundraiser.
ReplyDeleteThere will be a huge back order, just so they can sit in a store room somewhere.

ReplyDeleteThis link was included in a comment at HuffPo. It is a bit long, maybe 5 mins. Is what the young woman on the left describes as the fate of Wasilla, the general feeling up there in Alaska?
Is there a Wasilla blogger?
Thanks, Gryphen, again, for keeping 'this outpost of freedom' open!
