Sarah Palin uses little Trig to deflect criticism and to drum up interest in her Barbara Walters interview today. This is stomach churning.

Had a great conversation today with Barbara Walters regarding America’s special needs community. (Completely transparent attempt to appeal to her audience's compassionate nature.)Her compassion for those who some in our society see as “less than perfect” comes from personal experience as she was so close to her sister. Barbara wrote lovingly about her sister in her #1 bestselling memoir titled, Audition. (This is laying it on thick even by Sarah Palin standards. Surely people are not buying this?)Barbara and I even attempted to interview Trig during this segment, but he was about as patient through the interview as any other one-and-a-half-year-old child! (What? They "attempted to interview" a 19 month old toddler with Down's Syndrome? This little boy is almost completely deaf and has virtually no ability to communicate. I doubt he has very many words in his vocabulary, if any, and he could not even begin to respond to even the simplest of questions! This is the sickest pimping of a special needs child that I have ever seen!)I appreciate Barbara highlighting America’s special needs community. The beautiful heart of our country shines when we embrace these precious ones. Knowing of their unconditional love and need for our embrace reminds me every day of what really matters in this world.

- Sarah Palin

That entire passage made me ill to my stomach! I thought I had seen Sarah Palin at her worst, but I stand corrected. In the words of a friend of mine 'There is no bottom to how low she will go."

  4. I know Trig has some eyesight problems too, but I wonder if they are learning, as a family, to sign? Your post really hit me today, my heart goes out to this kid...are Sarah and Todd really taking an active role in his life to ensure he will live as full of life as is possible? I'm thinking not and that makes me sad.

Why would a compassionate person like Barbara Walters participate in such a stunt!!! Turns my stomach. Palin is as terrible as the people around her permit.

  6. What has she done for the "special needs community" except speak at anti-choice rallies, assuring the births of even more special needs babies?

    Really, what?
    someone needs to ask her

And just saying that she, the famous Saint Sarah has a DS baby that she didn't abort, is not doing something for the community.

I reeally wonder if Barbara Walters knows that Trig is deaf. And Sarah asked Barbara to interview a deaf 19 month old Downs baby verbally?? That is sick and bordering on childhood abuse! By now Trig should already be learning simple sign language. These are crucial years for a dead developmentally disabled child. This is appalling. I wonder if there is a way to let Barbara know about this and also other organizations for childrens rights. I have to see the interview though. Did they actually attempt to ask him verbal questions?
I can't figure out when Barabara is on. Is it the today show?

I know I am repeating my self, but it matters.

Why doesn't Sarah talk about the things that she has learned from caring for a learning and physically disadvantaged child? What technics is she using, who's books has she read, what national organizations facilities and internet help has she used? She has national reach now, who is her national level mentor?

The answer of course is none of the above. And that really is all anybody needs to know about this person to despise them. She is not some helpless, impoverished single mother. How much of the $1M plus is being set aside in trust for Trig when his parents are too old to care for an adult with severe Down Syndrome?

She has other horrible qualities as well but ignoring this child's enormous learning needs are indescribable.

  12. Slightly OT, but still on-Palin (crossposted @ Mudflats):

I heard on MSNBC last night that Palin's SarahPAC announced that they will be offering a free signed copy of "Going Rogue" to anyone who sends in a donation of $100 or more to SarahPAC. (drumroll)

    (pause)

    (thinking about that)

Remember the confusion over the Palin handwritten thank-you notes to fans, the ones where Palin's signature and some of the script in the notes in no way resembled samples of Palin's handwriting known to be and witnessed as hers on official documents?

    Yeah.

What are the chances that Palin's devoted legions of fans would get a copy of "Going Rogue" signed by one of 5 or 6 of Palin's closest friends (hello, Ivy), relatives (hello, Bristol and Willow) and/or advisors (hello, Meg) just like the handwritten thank-you notes?

    Pretty good, I'd say.

Even at 10 times the price of getting an autographed copy of "Going Rogue" at a Palin whistlestop on her book tour, and with absolutely NO certificate of authenticity, I'm sure her fans will grab 'em up like hotcakes.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Anonymous7:51 AM

As long as Sarah continues to use her family, I would like to suggest that they all participate in the book signing too, also. That way, they could autograph books at a much faster rate and speed up the line. Here, Piper, you do this one, Trig will put his finger print on the books over there. One book with all autographs should sell for considerably more. Really, isn't it all about the money, anyway?

  14. I was in a Christian church from about 10-16 in small town Minnesota. I am no longer a believer but it's funny, I consider myself more of a Christian, someone who follows the teaching of Jesus, much more than she does.

I hate Liars for Jesus more than any other kind of politician and/or person. Though I don't believe, it pisses me off that people like Palin who claim to be basically on a hot line to God, are really mean, petty, vindictive, and a liar. And no other so-called Christians say anything about her un-loving behavior.

Come to think of it, she never mentions Jesus, just God. I bet she thinks SHE should be sitting at the right hand of God and not that hippy peacenick with the "love your enemies" bull crap.

Why are we really surprised at her poor mothering?
Remember the way she carried around Trig on the campaign trail - like a sack of potting soil. Remember the stark difference in how Bristol carried and cared for him? I don't think she has any nurturing instincts in her other than those she directs to her own career and celebrity.

Maybe that's why she was such a horrid mayor and governor - her inability to think about others, to think bigger than herself.

If she could think about others, she might not be dragging her two youngest children around the country like accessories to her wonderful self. She'd want them to have solid routines, be in school, have stability. No, she apparently would prefer to have them with her as shields against hard questions, objects to draw sympathy, props that smile or frown as needed. If she were a caring, nurturing mother she'd worry more about them than herself.

Her self-absorption is overwhelming. She may talk the talk, but she cannot walk the walk of a caring parent. If I were HER parent, I would be so ashamed.

If someone could please locate her mental health professional and let him/her know that she's escaped, it would make this country a lot more pleasant.

If you wanted a female version of George W. Bush, all you have to do is look to Sarah Palin: self-absorbed, vindictive, small-minded, ignorant even though formally "educated," stubborn, poor parenting skills, outwardly overly dependent upon the spouse, unable or unwilling to accept blame, careless with language, thin-skinned when it comes to criticism but sharp-tongued when it comes to describing others, indifferent to the needs of others, tendency to think of others only in terms of nicknames, overly concerned with physical exercise/appearance.

Could go on but why deprive others of the chance to add to the list? It would be interesting to compile a list of parallels and differences between the two. I bet there would more in the "similar" column than in the "different" column.

BTW, maybe someone should call child protective services to check into Trig's care. Just saying.

Sooo...how can they 'attempt' to interview him, given that he is so profoundly deaf (I betcha from all that raucous convention/election crap!), and seemingly severely handicapped with his DS, which has not been treated with early interventional therapy? Does Alaska have a Department of Child Protective Services? IMHO, it is wayyyy past the time for them to check into this family's situation...

What really chaps my butt is if she wants to use her kids as props, then why not use Trigg as a tool to teach about children with special needs? Why doesn't she talk about the early intervention he's having? Why isn't Trigg photographed with his glasses on and hearing aids? I certainly hope he has them! If he has them and doesn't wear them, why? Is it because they make him look "too handicapped"? As a former special ed teacher, one of the biggest beefs I had was parents who refused to put hearing aids and glasses on their children when they had them. I've heard every excuse under the sun. 41. These Palin kids are going to suffer long term damage at the hands of their mother. I would be mortified if I were Willow sitting for those interviews.

Did anyone even see the full Oprah? The segment where they are with Sarah in Wasilla is disturbing. Trig is ver low functioning for a baby of 19 months even with DS. He does not sit up or stand up on his own, does not crawl or walk, lays down while drinking bottles which is a no-no and common knowledge among moms. He is very small for his age. I was heart broken watching it.

I agree with other posters...she has done nothing to advance the needs of special needs children. She cannot speak to anything that they do for Trig. By the looks of things, kindergarten will be tough for Trig. I almost cried yesterday.

Someone else posted something similar: I just watched the home video portion of the O intv. on Celtic Diva. T1 is very low functioning. For an 18 month old, he sits just like a 6 month old. He is extremely hypotonic. We know that he must have had hearing loss to be so calm at the RNC. Any other 4 month old would have been freaked by the noise (and no, I don't really think he was only 4 months old.) What intv. was it (fishing after the quitter speech maybe?) where SP said he was "getting ready to walk." Right, and Todd "built the boat." T1 obviously can't even stand. He seems to need to drink lying down. Very low functioning indeed. But at least there was a camera crew in the house so he got some time with his mother paying attention to him. Truly, all these intvs were missed opportunities for her to discuss early intervention, progress in special education etc. Nah, she'd rather run away from the kid. It's painfully obvious. Bet she never bonded with him. Poor thing.

  43. Lisabeth11:53 AM

I don't see how he could be going to kindergarden unless it is a special school. Like I said above, a responsible parent with a developmentally disabled child with severe hearing loss and visual problems needs intensive speech/language therapy and physical therapy along with medical help. A special needs babysitter teacher is not therapy. Special Ed teachers aren't trained enough. You'd think he would be learning simple signs to communicate. Maybe he is but I doubt it! The reason I doubt it is that Sarah would have videoed all this to show the world. She would do it for empathy, but you'd think she would use the opportunity to educate the public.
She makes me physically sick. I can't stand her!!

Gee, that's exactly what YOU ought to be telling Sarah. 47. Regarding Trig and his needs: he does seem to be very deaf. Either that or sometimes when she was carrying "Trig" she was actually carrying one of those lifelike dolls. Gryphen posted a video a while back when Palin is interviewed impromptu at a gym of some sort (Wasilla Sports Plex?). The date on the video was January 10, 2009. While Trig is sleeping in her arms and she talks to the interviewer, a shot clock or other buzzer goes off loudly in the background. Trig doesn't even flinch...

Interestingly, in that video, Trig is slumped way to the side with the weight of his head unsupported. I found another picture of her holding a sleeping Trig in that exact same position, while she's in the grocery store wearing a kuspuk. It looked weird, I can't imagine a caring mother letting her child just hang over sideways like that. The complete lack of response made me think of the odd "out cold" babies we have so often seen with the Palins and the fact that they looked almost like dolls. But unfortunately, rather than dolls, I think the truth is that by keeping sensory stimulation away from Trig, he is even more passive and easy to handle. And perhaps other means have been used to keep him quiet.

At this point I do have to comment on the photos and video of Sarah with the infant Trig in the sling at various bill signings and other events. Why is he never awake? Why does she have him so far down in that sling that at times it looks like he would be smothering. Why have I not heard even a single anecdote about Palin having to stop with the bill signing for a minute because Trig woke and was fussing or needed a change? Small infants need changing many times a day, yet I never heard any stories about her excusing herself to take care of his needs. Instead, it seems like he was always sleeping and inert when she was dragging him around in the sling.

To the present: Trig apparently does need hearing aids and glasses, but only VERY RARELY in his photos is he wearing them. When we see the "happy family" video footage of Trig with Todd or Sarah, it's nearly always with him without hearing aids or glasses, and usually they are talking to him and lifting him up. He seems not to be anywhere close to walking, despite Palin's claims. In the video footage from the Oprah interview, October 31 of this year, it seems that he is not able to stand at all, even with support. Palin holds him up so he it appears he is on his feet, but it was clear he was not supporting himself at all and doesn't seem to be trying to do it. I noticed she quickly picked him up, as if she was realizing people might notice just what we are all noticing.

The whole thing is heartbreaking. Bristol is young, and she may not know how behind developmentally that Trig is, or how important it is to get visual and auditory stimuli to his brain at this stage of development. He seems like a very good natured baby and I really fear that Bristol has her hands full being the caretaker for both those babies, and for whatever reason the Palins seem to be doing very little to help Trig with his hearing and sight problems. It worries me that Palin is too vain to tolerate a child with hearing aids and glasses, or worse, is in total denial and relying "on God" to sort out Trig's developmental needs

I'm with you, LilyBart. She doesn't even resemble a stumbling Christian, whose heart and efforts are at least in the right place. So self-absorbed.

And this 'special needs' shill of hers grates me. I've SEEN the pen slashes she made in the Alaskan budget prior to her nomination for VP - line item by line item, wherein she cut hundreds of thousands of dollars for 'special needs' and pregnant teen programs. All during a year when Alaska was up to its fishing waders in cash (not to mention all of those earmarks. . .).

Yeah, there still was more money given to those programs as compared to years past. . .but with all that money floating around, with no need to actually 'balance' any sort of tight budget she SLASHED the recommended money for these programs.

I am still wondering today just how much good might have been done, and how much 'evil' would have been prevented, had those dollars been freed to help such individuals and families.

I know what it means for a politician to SLASH funds for special needs children, as my son was born under the Sun of Reagan in California. . .just as he SLASHED similar funds. I was aware, every day, just how important that money was, as my child went without therapy, our house went without food, all under the influence of Reagan's sunny smile. . .

She's no Christian, she's a Pretender, deluding her followers into sending her more cash. Period.

Are we to believe that Bristol and Trig are never seen around town?

There must be plenty of people that observe Trig. A few would know about children and disabled children. They all just ignore when a child is in need?

I have heard that Bristol has a Nanny. Is that true? What does Todd do? He is the official parent.

I hope they put that man at the ADN in jail for ignoring Trig. The adults all get caught up in thinking it is about protecting their own shortcomings.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Anonymous2:54 PM

There are no adults in the part of Alaska where the Palins live that will care about Trig? What an ugly place that is. What is wrong with those people?

Levi is the only one to try to stand up against the child abuse. Like the "R-----" name she uses. Why are all the adults turning their backs on Levi and Trig? Levi has cared for Trig and spent time around him. If he was trained to know what to look for he would know more of what Trig needs. They may not allow him to be anyplace near Trig now but he may have an old hair brush or locket or something to help with DNA.

I don't know if Trig was part of an adoption or what but who his parents are is still in question. The answers could be serious and involve others and who knows what schemes. Where is Child Protection with all this? It should be federal agents since the state is so corrupt. Someone please help the children.

If Trig or Tripp go into Canada the adults are required to show their birth certificates. Does anyone know if either child has been to Canada?

Trig will be going to Aunt Katie's in Washington state. How will he travel?

Trigg may be getting the therapy he needs, but who knows? Sarah, you read these blogs, how bout telling us what Triggs early intervention entails?

If you were talking about, say, the Methodists, Presbyterians, Lutherans, or Catholics in typical American communities, I might agree. Wasilla doesn't resemble, in any way, the typical mainstream America Christian community--soooo--you really need to think and stop being so obtuse, or--hmmm are you, perhaps, being an apologist for something "in that blessed part of America" that you condone?

The Palin family is sadly one very dysfunctional family. While the psychotic mother-in-name-only is away with Piper and Willow spreading her lies and psychosis on national television, and supposedly Todd and Willow are living in Palmer, where does that leave Trig?

With?? Todd? Bristol? --whose motherinnameonly said she is attending college, working to buy food and diapers{{cough, gag, choke}} for Tripp. Who is doing what, with whom and where? I am so confused with this "family".

Child Protective Services will not simply open a case just because. They require someone to report his/her concern for the welfare and/or safety of a minor. Somebody who knows this situation needs to take the next step if indeed there is neglect for this child.

Bristol is probably working for Grifter as 1) a babysitter (for Trig)
    and
2)signing all the copies of Goin' rogue on ebay :)
and sending thank you notes to the bots.

Wow, I had no idea the little Trig had hearing aids as well. I remember the PSA Palin did for the Special Olympics with Piper(ofcourse because I don't think she wants to handle Trig on her own)and he was wearing his glasses. I noticed that the day she resigned this past summer Trig again wasn't wearing his glasses. I wonder why no one in the media brings this up?
