If Sarah Palin thought Fox News would insulate her from criticism she may be wrong. Even Glenn Beck and Bill O'Reilly cannot quite stomach her.

Uh oh, it looks like the ONLY Fox News correspondent that Palin charmed was the painfully adolescent Sean Hannity. I think she knew it too, which is why she seemed to be the most at ease on his show.

A new one (to me) by Frank Rich:

    The Great Tea Party Rip-Off

He nails Palin and Steele as the MONEY-GRUBBERS that they are.

  2. This is the most lucid and rational I have ever seen Glenn Beck, ever. Billo may be totally obnoxious and arrogant, but he is not stupid, and he has very little tolerance for stupid, ignorant guests. He loves to have on others who are politically opposite from him to debate with just to show his self perceived brilliance. His disdain for Sarah shows through.

Glenn Beck is right...Sarah does not have the discipline, mental acuity, personality, and stability to run for anything ever again. She has proven that time and time again. The MSM will keep propping her up because she is a ratings grabber...but only because we all love a trainwreck...who could resist this? I was watching Chris Matthews' Sunday Morning show on local NBC ( I don't know if it is national) today...the panel included Andrea Mitchell, Howard Fineman, Kelly O'Donnell, and John Heilmann, author of Game Change. They all dogged her to no end, but at the end of the show all but one of them (Kelly) said she would run for president! Unreal...like none of them saw In Touch Weekly? WTF?

    Gryphen, end this now, please...

It is not OK for a national leader in the US to just be able to name Thomas Jefferson, or not be able to if you're Sarah, or just name Washington.

Sarah Palin doesn't even have the knowledge of a newly sworn in immigrant who has just gained citizenship.

No party would put such a person, new citizen, up for high office unless they were already highly educated and deeply experienced in world matters.

Yet the Republicans put her up as VP and continue to shove her down our national throats and an icon of their party standards.

I have to agree with Beck in that Palin is definitely "shields up", but I think it's really more of a "bluffing game" than an actual defensive maneuver. She's got nothing, and she knows it. She's desperately hoping no one will call and ask that she show her cards.

Think there was a link yesterday on Politico somewhere in Ben's Blog that was about Ailes and how he vets his new talent. Says he vets a long time before really deciding to stick with someone.

The vetting has begun. The good ol boys at Fox will vet her in this way and wait to see how the ratings shift around on her appearances.

They're trying to see just which viewers will tune in. I assume the educated have no interest in Palin. I know I just said educated but there are actual informed, educated people watching the network only because they are republican.

Bill O'Reilly has no respect for her what so ever. He is probably very insulted that she's been given a spot on his network.

  9. Oh my, I almost like O'Reilly. He questions the inadequacy and stupidity of Palin without backing down. It is glaringly obvious that O'Reilly has no gushy good feelings for the ex-half term guv. Beck takes the role of an apologist for Ms. Dimwit without any Vick's induced teary moments. He actually sounds lucid--as much as one can be in defending this under-qualified, intellectually incurious, frontal lobe deficient, crazy and just plain stupid person.

Yesterday, The Mudflats printed this long rambling statement from Sarah's appearance wtih Hannity:

“It’s going to send a very strong message that the status quo, even in Massachusetts, the status quo of just accepting the big growth of government and health care takeover measures that it seems capital hill wants to cram down our throats today, things are gonna start changing, thank God things are gonna start changing, but even, and I would love to be able to at some point interview “Senator Brown.” I anticipate victory there, but even if he doesn’t win already poll numbers showing that his message is resonating and his message is just, you know, common sense conservative values, principles, solutions, being plugged in to meet the challenges facing America today. People in his state, they’re listening to him and are getting excited about this dynamic candidate.”

No matter how many times you read that first sentence, it just does not make sense. Accepting the status quo of big government handing out health care-- that's not the status quo, that's the change that people want to believe in. Status quo means leaving things just the way they are.

    Sarah Palin is an idiot!

She fills the air with noise which prevented Sean from asking the next question. It reminds me of the verbose kid in high school who could literally run out the clock, sparing the rest of us from the oral quiz planned that day.

Sarah is incapable of organizing her thoughts and articulating a clear statement. She babbles on as a coverup for what she does not know. Even Sean was surprised that she did not watch C-Span. We know from her statement that Track was googling the 25 windows of the Statue of Liberty that she also does not do the homework. Also, she cannot focus on what's important. Even Chris Matthews, who was originally charmed by her ability to work the camera was forced to acknowledge her "deer in the headlights look" and the fact that Sarah is dumber than a box of rocks.

I'm happy she signed with FOX. Now that she's a "political consultant," I would love to see her and James Carville debate a topic -- any topic -- on Bill O's show. I cannot wait for it.

I'd actually watch FOX just to see her melt down on camera and show her true colors. She can't depend on other's talking points forever. She can't independantly debate anything -- this should be fun!!

You are spot on with your assessment of SP. She really does babble on in an attempt to mask her lack of knowledge on anything.

When she was asked about who her favorite founding father is, you could tell by the way that she was trying to finish her answer after Beck called bull crap on her that she was trying desperately to speak with authority. She lacks critical thinking skills. It's one thing to answer a yes or no question, but it's an entirely different game to explain why.
She's good at repeating her talking points over and over again, but she cannot elaborate on anything.

BTW, I call bull crap on Beck about how she is unprepared to be president because she is so "shielded". She's "shielded" because she's doesn't know anything, and she's constantly worried about being asked for which she is unprepared to answer. Unfortunately for her, that is quite a long list.

  27. Perhaps the most wonderful irony is that Palin, who refused to talk to the 'lame stream' press, has signed a multi year contract to keep appearing on Fox. If ripping her apart increases their ratings, they will do it with glee and she has committed herself to showing up. The mainstream press would be far more kind.

Gryphen I'm making the rounds today. Since you've said in the past you believe or have been told that Bristol is not Trig's mother if you can please remark on this theory:

My take on Trig. I have never been able to reconcile Bristol's myspace comments. One was to a girl asking her to call her NOW or ASAP something sounding urgent, the other was 'now I'm going to have to mother that duck'. These both were left about the time she also left the comment that Sarah heard her on the phone and thought she was pregnant.

Bristol is not the mother, but became the mother via orders from Sarah. Track is the father. The mother is someone whose parents either had big plans for their daughter or is someone embarrassing/questionable to the Palin family. Sarah and Todd were forced to or chose to come to an agreement with maternal grandparents that neither Track nor mother would be or could ever raise the children and Track was already set (or already) to enlist (can't remember dates and timelines). Maybe both Track and the Mother were in trouble at the time for other transgressions and someone had to figure this out quickly so the agreement to take Trig as their own was made. Ultimately Bristol has been forced to Mother him because Sarah is not only angry, but never home. She probably felt I didn't do this or ask for it and deep down resents Trig and Track and even Bristol if Sarah feels Bristol is to blame for some of this if she was partying with or aware of her brother's actions and didn't rat him out.

The good news is that Sarah really was lame on Fox. The bad news is that a lot of people tuned in to watch, boosting their ratings.

How does Fox handle this? She is getting terrible reviews but great ratings. We know that she does not study, cannot take direction or follow advice. I guess we can watch for Sarah to be scripted, read from a teleprompter, be taped so that they edit the bad stuff out. How long can Sarah last before she "goes rogue," and starts to work towards getting her own program?

The thing about Sarah being ignorant of basic fifth grade civics is that her crazed supporters don't care. As Anon 10:57 says they will turn on anyone who even touches the reality of Palin. I mean c'mon. O'Reilly and Beck are absolutely erudite next to her.

With Sarah's supporters it is ALL emotional. Facts and Palin's failings never come into it. These are the type of people who would throw themselves off cliffs to defend this woman before they defended their own family members. What is so sad though is that they really don't understand they are a means to an end for Sarah. She uses them to send her more money and screech when she wants them to. They get so deranged they even threaten judges
    on her behalf.

But notice how Palin stands back and lets them react--saying nothing? Although I know it may have freaked her out a bit about the judge thing--
but maybe not in the beginning (until her lawyer made her quietly make her fans stop).

Unfortunately, it will take a whole lot for them to stop defending ANY idiocy she perpetuates. Even when the truth comes out--they will not believe it
because they see her as one of them. What they don't understand is that a part of her is terrified of them as she knows their anger is overwhelming.
And if it is ever directed towards her—look out.

Remember Orly Taitz and the way some of her nutcase supporters turned on her when some real truths about her came out? Goodluck Sarah.

That's not exactly scathing criticism. This is just part of these guys' standard pretense at objectivity. They have to criticize her to some degree, so they can later deny that they were licking her boots.

According to Beck, all SP has to do is beat Billo in a battle of wits, then she'll be qualified to be POTUS. Uh-huh. And as soon as I learn to open a coconut without spilling all the milk I'll be qualified to perform brain surgery.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I thought O'Reilly's was one of the most back-handed interviews I've ever seen. Call it going down under friendly fire.

I loved the avid gleam Palin got when she was told 60 Minutes devoted 8 minutes to her... which SO wasn't O'Reilly's point! She thought America wouldn't care if she didn't know who her son would be fighting in Iraq. She didn't know who the authors of 'Game Change' actually were. Yeah, they're just two of the best-known political gossips wh*ring on prestigious national news magazines. Why would a top Republican figure know them? Oh, boy. She said Steve Schmidt, big bald man of the McCain campaign, based his *personal* recollection of Palin on "an anonymous source".

O'Reilly wouldn't let her get away with word salad, and that made it a hostile interview, for Palin. She started flirting with that deer-in-the-headlights look. Rather than stand up to the man, which any woman who appears on his show KNOWS to do coming in.

Palin claimed that whether she's intelligent is irrelevant, because of things continuing to happen(she means daily life!) and O'Reilly shut her down again, stating that it was relevant, because she now has a forum on Fox News. But not because she was once a contender for national office, or might be again. Priorities, priorities. But now it's obvious he's 'neutralizing' her as competition. Ouch.

O'Reilly demands that Palin prove she's smart. Now. Oh, that's just nasty. "The American people are immediately neutralizing outlets like 60 Minutes. They're looking at these biased networks and saying 'Nah, that gig is up.'" Sarah, did you really have to regurgitate Bill's 'neutralizing'? O'Reilly likes 60 Minutes, he finds it "honorable." Sorry, Sarah, Bill really doesn't like competition. Or jumped-up women-types.

"Finally--" Oh look, it's Jocular Uncle Billo, telling Little Miss Sarah what to do. Loudly. Sarah tried to make political hay and step on one of her biggest problems with her fan base, declaring that she was offered a fee for speaking at a Tea Party, but turned it down. "Take the money!" orders Uncle Bill. Nope -- Palin's gonna be contributing to campaigns & issues.

Since WHEN? Oh that's right, she just got her hands on the PAC money, through her daughter's new company. Nifty. And she has no conception of timing... that was a little too quick after Bristol's announcement, Sarah. Sigh.

O'Reilly works in the fact that Todd is sitting in the studio, within sight -- which is a nice mid-subtle demotion of Palin as a functional adult.

And Beck made sure that the Statue of Liberty was seen over HIS shoulder, not Palin's. But then, we already know that Sarah doesn't understand staging or the politics of precedence. Turkey, anyone?

Murdoch might adore Palin. But the established semi-masculine faces of FOX aren't about to give her the opportunity to damage their ratings.

And Sarah? George Washington wasn't one of the founding fathers. Just for future reference.

  48. Anonymous1:23 PM

Another way to look at this is that Beck and O'Reilly are just pretending to be 'fair and balanced' about her. Beck said "bull crap" to her face as she was talking about the founding fathers, and O'Reilly called her out on other stuff so that critics wouldn't say they were coddling her. It's all a big show for big $$. Fox could care less about her competence or lack of, as long as it sells.

  49. If the bots are turning on Beck, O'Lielly and Fox, where will they turn when s$arah's true colors finally show?
Where will they go when the real Iceberg hits and there is no way to rationalize what ever it is against her?
Maybe it will be a blessing in disguise. Maybe then, when the sh*t hits the fan, they'll start to actually use their brains for things that progress our Country. Maybe, I know it's a long shot, but maybe, after the republican party completely obliterates itself, they can rebuild into an honest viable party. We do need a two party system in this country. That's what checks and balances are all about.
Pay close attention to SCOTUS. Because they are stacked with extreme right wingers, their last two judgements have come down on the side of corporations and against the people. The quicker the rethugs fall apart completely, the quicker they can rebuild with moderates.

When Hannity asked Palin if she watched the hearings on C-Span, she thought he was being sarcastic because she doesn't realize there have been any hearings. yes, they are calling for all hearings to be open but she thinks there hasn't been any of the healthcare debate televised. I really do believe this reinforces what Levi told us about her TV and reading preferences and what Gryphen's source said about her gossip mags while on the plane as Governor.

The 'bots latest complaint is they talked over her and she didn't get to answer any questions. They are whining that all she has is Facebook and Twitter to get her viewpoints out. Lol, you can tell the republican/corporate party has turned its sights of the tea baggers. This is a classic strategy, paint someone (Palin) as such a leader of a faction (teabaggers), reinforce their identify with the faction. Eventually, expose the leader to some scandal (Palin is an idiot), painting them and the faction in the same colours. Faction loses credibility and support as a result. Should be interesting to watch (just like a train wreak), given the teabaggers emotional connection with god, guns and dominionism. Since she is the queen of them, the only one speaking in public with their trust (reilly and beck belong to the wrong churches). Hannity is playing the long game, banking on the teabaggers, so when Palin falls, he can play kingmaker to the new leader of the teabaggers. You saw it here first.

Gryphen - there is an interesting post on the blog Scribbit - probably Alaska's most nationally well known "mom blogger." She posted a couple days ago about how her feelings toward Sarah have changed - that she used to be a supporter, but now isn't.

I found her post and the comments that followed to be interesting and enlightening because they come from a conservative Alaskan mother who isn't as rabidly (I say this in only the nicest way) interested in SP as others.

I feel her perspective and those who commented from across the nation do a good job of showing how Jane Six Pack Americans have taken off their rose colored glasses when in comes to SP.

i still say she was "relaxed" and not a goof on Hannity
    because it was PRERECORDED

She can't do things live.. she is so twisted in a ball knowing all eyes are on her
She needs to HIDE in order to relax..
behind Facebook, in front of adoring crowds with a prepared speech...
Beck and Bill O were Live

Remember, Beck’s show is taped. The VERY uncomfortable long pause while Palin searched the vast emptiness of her head trying to come up with the name of a founding father was intentionally left in the final version of the show by Beck. If he were trying to make her look smarter, he would have edited the pause significantly or removed the exchange entirely. That he did not clean up her mess speaks VOLUMES as to how he truly feels about Palin. He also very pointedly left in his “bullcrap” response to Palin’s answer, “all of them” when Beck asked who her favorite founding father was. This was FAR more hostile than anything Katie Couric did.

That Billow, Beck, and Goldberg are all willing to openly discuss what a fool and liar Palin is ONLY TWO DAYS INTO her FauxNews gig also speaks volumes. If I were advising Palin I would tell her to not even bother unpacking her stuff, ‘cause she’d just have to turn around and repack it soon enough.

Just the fact that Sarah mentions Track's name on a Fox program as a political analyst(eyeroll), says somthing's amiss with her thinking. How many other analysts sit, discuss on the topics and bring up their child's names in the discussion? Never, not that I've seen, on any network.

Strange behavior. Enough already with the super-hockey-mom of five kids. We know already. Sarah cannot seem to move on to the next phase, or phases. She is stuck in Stepford Wife mode.

This rollout of Sarah on Fox News is a ratings booster for them, I doubt either of them actually "care" about Sarah's image, but we know she sure does.

She was oddly stiff and quiet with both BOR and Beck, but I think it's because she was wary. If you remember her interview with BOR at the beginning of her book tour, she started out being all sparkly and flirty and ended by being quite defensive and angry. It was a strange interview; sometimes he flattered her, sometimes he attacked her, and she never knew what his game was. The only thing she knew was that he wasn't drooling all over her, and that scared her. And that interview had been relatively safe since it was about her life and the campaign; what if this time he asked her to expand on some point she'd made in one of "her" Facebook or op ed pieces?

And Beck came out with that "Why am I hearing your voice" jab a few weeks ago. Again, she had to be wary of what he might do. The only one she was sure of was Hannity, hence the more relaxed, turned-on Sarah.

She will never face anyone who might put her on the spot. Which I guess reduces her to Hannity and Greta Van Suckup.

    Anon @ 6:19,
As for Billow not being flirty with Palin, remember, he is dating a battery operated sex toy. As long as the batteries hold out, he is in a committed, stable relationship. He'd be unfaithful if he flirted.

Mrs. Palin had best not forget that Roger Ailes is assessing his newest acquisition to see if she fits in with the rest of his phony big happy family of newsreaders and pundits. If she continues to pile up bad reviews, and if her fellow Fox News personalities continue to snicker at her she'll be gone... no matter the ratings.

    Then where'll she go?!

  74. Gasman-- good point about Beck not editing out her loooooooong pause. I hadn't thought of that. Beck must be ecstatic that for a while, at least, there's someone on Faux News who makes even HIM look like he's of average intelligence.

  75. Question: Was the Jimmy Kimmel version of the Founding Fathers edited to lengthen the "thinking" pause? Which one was the real deal - Beck's or Kimmel's?

Don't get me wrong, I don't think Beck is that bright. But, neither is he stupid. His schtick is very calculated and intentional with the crying on cue and the "irrational patriot" act. He is counting on his outrageousness to bring in ratings rather than any ability to produce a quality program. Ratings mean squat if they also are not accompanied by higher advertising revenues. We know that Beck is vulnerable in that department.

I think Beck's trajectory is only slightly less steep than Palin's. He is sloppy. He is lazy. He does not turn out a quality product, even if you can accept the inherent GOP whoremongering which permeates all of FauxNews' programming. His show is just plain bad.

He spends about 10-15 minutes planning his TV show as he commutes from his radio studio to his show's set. I think he calls his minions and says, "I need a whiteboard and some slides of the artwork outside Rockefeller Center," and THAT is the extent of any planning. There are no rehearsals and none of his staff engage in any research. It is ALL off the cuff, "shootin' from the hip" as Palin might say. That is why lazy, sloppy, inexcusable errors such as OLIGARHY make it on air with pathetic regularity. He can get away improvising and vamping for 2-3 hours a day on radio, but TV doesn’t work that way. Television production is a much more anal business. In a business that is built upon hyper planning for every on air second, he just vamps.

Beck wants Palin around because, by comparison, she makes him look like a lot less of a slacker. However, he wants her wounded, but not dead. He has to play his hand very carefully, because if she augers in too spectacularly, she’ll be gone and he’ll go back to being the highly rated lazy fuckup who can’t bring in revenue.

Nobody with those qualities will last for very long on the boob tube.

  77. Sadly, Sarah is a hot topic because she is such a train wreck. I hope the American public who keep buying the rags who write about her, and who watch these television shows lose interest quickly. I just don't understand the fascination.

In the past couple of weeks, I have heard more than 2 commentators say that SP could be a viable candidate for President in 2012. Who is bribing these poor souls to say that? Whatever happened to the so-called liberal media? Or are they just hopeful that she does become the Republican candidate, so it would be easy for President Obama to remain in the White House for another four years.

But then again, by the time the next election comes up, I truly believe that President Obama will have proven himself to the majority of the American people, and there will be no reason to worry.

Oh, give me a break. The new talking point is that Sarah Palin must "drop her shields" so that we may see the truly masterful public servant. What???? Oh, so, it's only her "shields" that make her look painfully ignorant? I call BALONEY on that. Beck and O'Reilly are only trying to make excuses for her poor performance on what should have been EASY interviews.
    Pathetic.
