More bad news for Wasilla.

From the ADN:

The Army said today a soldier from Wasilla has been charged with the murders of three Afghan civilians.

A statement from the Army said Spc. Jeremy Morlock had been charged with three counts of premeditated murder and one count of assault.

Morlock, 22, is an infantryman assigned to B Company, 2nd Battalion, 1st Infantry Regiment, 5th Stryker Brigade Combat Team.

He entered the military in June 2006 and received initial entry training and advanced individual training at Fort Benning, Ga., reporting to Joint Base Lewis-McChord in December 2006.

Morlock deployed in July 2009 with his unit in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He returned to the Washington state base Thursday. He was charged today and has been placed in pretrial confinement.

Joint Base spokeswoman Lt. Col. Tamara Parker said the charges against Morlock involve three separate events alleged to have occurred between January and May at or near Forward Operating Base Ramrod in Afghanistan. She said she had no further details on the victims or circumstances.

This is  very sad news for the people of Wasilla.  After what happened to Joe McGinniss a lot of the locals had been reaching out in an effort to let people know that not all of them are like Sarah Palin and her ilk.  And with Mercede's well received website hitting the internet today, I had thought we might even see a kind of "Wasilla Renaissance" in the making.  After all it would be nice if there were voices issuing forth from that little town other than the bizarre Facebook and Twitter posts of the "crazy lady on the lake".

So today's news will undoubtedly hit the people of Wasilla especially hard.

I have been asked by a few people if this young man was a friend of Track's.  To be honest I don't really know, though they both played hockey and each shared a big day on the ice back in January of 2005.

But even if they were, this bears no reflection on the Palin family, Wasilla, or even this young man's family.  We do not know what turned this soldier into a murderer, but he has been fighting for his life in an extremely hostile environment for over a year now, and that could turn almost anybody into something somewhat less than human. However what this young man is accused of doing is inexcusable and I certainly hope that the families of these murdered Afghans see justice done for the loss of their loved ones.

Having said that my heart goes out to the family of Jeremy Morlock, and to the people of Wasilla who are once again shamed by the deeds done by one of their own..

Ah - tried and convicted already, I see. Should we save some money and just scrap the trial?

No matter how angry any of us may be, the rule of law must prevail.

  3. Oh dear it sounds rather sinister doesn't it? Three SEPARATE incident and all premeditated? This is no ordinary case is it. If the man is responsible (we don't know yet!) then I don't think it's a war related thing at all - that kind of behaviour is sociopathic there's no other words for it. If true, he would have likely killed or hurt back in the US in time the war probably was seen as a good cover for enabling his fantasies to come to life

This has to be difficult on the Morlock family. I am so sorry that they must go through this; they were probably expecting a wonderful homecoming! Wonder what the "crazy lady on the lake" will tweet? Will she offer condolences of some sort or declare some abstract, illogical reason that this is all the fault of the libruls?

I hope Joe McGinnis is finding some relaxation these days and can focus on enjoying Alaska and write his book... I hope Mercede Johnston isn't getting too much hate mail.. I hope Sarah goes down in history simply, as the "crazy lady on the lake"...

We are so blessed to not be in the shoes of the above people.- Peace -

  5. Lots of disturbing comments at the ADN. Damn the neocons who started this horrible war and those who are training our youth to be holy warriors. I hope the whole truth comes out for Spc. Morlock and that he'll be treated fairly. And let's get the hell out of there.

Yes, war does oome to that: "being told to just shoot people"... That's why "liberals" are against war, and want a leader who seeks peace and negotiations. That's one main reason McCain/Palin didn't win their WH bid. Unfortunately, Obama has to clean up the Cheney mess. In the case of Morlock, it appears that his actions were pre-meditated. We don't know the facts yet, but war crimes are when the person devises and carries out a plan to expressly kill certain people, which is different than being in chaos and not knowing who the "enemy" is. No one wins in a war.

@ 9:21: After 9/11 top military advisors warned Bush not to go into Iraq, that Bin Laden was in Afghanistan. Cheney pressured Bush to lead the war into Iraq. It was a senseless waste of money and lives. Bush got us into a huge jam. (You don't just dust off your boots and say bye, bye.) Obama has escalated the Afghanistan campaign (as it should have been done in the first place) and decreased the Iraqi war. You're right though, Obama said 18 months (Iraq), and we are right at 18 months; hopefully we will be seeing something significant in ending one war. Thank God, we didn't get Mr. Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Iran, and Mrs. Mama Bear in the White House!!

  11. Anonymous 9:21 - I stand corrected as to the war zone but stand by my statement. I don't see anything in Pres. Obama's 2007 promise that said it wouldn't take additional troops to end the war or that it applies to Afghanistan.

I am not pre-judging by any means, but decided to see if Jeremy Morlock had any prior legal issues.

There seem to have been 3 cases involving Morlock that went through the Palmer Courthouse.

I can't really figure out the results, but shortly after the last one is filed is when Mr. Morlock seems to 'enter the military'.

Interesting that he joins the military in June of 2006. It sort of sounds like the same route that Track took, doesn't it?

I wonder if this is the way recruiters are meeting goals in the U.S. or is it just in AK?

More Americans should just refuse to allow their children to be sent to war overseas. Domestic defense troops are all we need.
Bush and Cheney began these illegal wars and if the American people en masse demanded the end of it and refused to participate in it, it would be over.
I served in the Air Force during Desert Storm and I can vouch for the fact that testing and basic training only weeds out some of the weakest and the most psychologically unfit to serve. And, in desperation to recruit more people for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the U.S. military reduced their standards further.
Support the "War is Making You Poor Act" and support representatives who will end these needless wars.

@Anonymous 9:21, your Obama promise refers to Iraq and he started the draw down on day one. By the end of the summer, his promise will have been kept. As a military mom, I paid very close attention to his promises and his positions in both wars and he always said that Aghanistan was neglected by the Bushs and that he would make sure that it was funded and manned. I know it must be hard to keep up with the wars, both started on Bush's watch and both bungled terribly by people who believed it would be a cake walk that would pay for itself. You betcha!

9:21, in case you haven't noticed, there is no draft of unwilling civilians these days. Morlock sent *himself* to war, by the act of voluntarily enlisting. That to me is evidence right there that he had a screw loose.

Sorry, Gryphen. As long as Wasillans turn a blind eye to the #1 criminal family still thriving in their midst, I will not have a good opinion of Wasilla.

“The number of waivers granted to Army recruits with criminal backgrounds has grown about 65 percent in the last three years, increasing to 8,129 in 2006 from 4,918 in 2003, Department of Defense records show.” The sharpest increase was in waivers for serious misdemeanors, which make up the bulk of all the Army’s moral waivers. These include aggravated assault, burglary, robbery and vehicular homicide.
Waivers for less serious crimes like traffic offenses and drug use have dropped or remained stable.

I’ve never understood the rumors that Track was forced into service by the court...that he had a choice between the military or jail. The court system doesn’t have any jurisdiction with the military but his parents, on the other hand, surely could have put the screws on pretty tight to try to force their kid to enlist.

I can't see QuittiPants mentioning this beyond a token comment and how likely is that? This should chill the Stryker Brigade and Wasilla to the bone. It does look like Morlock is one of the famous hockey kids from the area.

Getting into a meaningful discussion about the culture of war and these horrendous tragedies and crimes could reflect on the image of Sarah Palin's idyllic down home remote Wasilla village. It looks like drugs are involved, that talk is verboten. They must follow their queen.
"The Seattle Times has learned that a second soldier is being detained in Kuwait as part of the investigation and that up to five soldiers could end up facing murder charges. The U.S. military last month said the case involves 'allegations of illegal drug use, assault and conspiracy."

"A group of about nine soldiers from the Stryker Brigade was initially investigated on suspicion of drug offenses, according to McClatchy Newspapers." Suspicious gang activity?

Tom Mitchell and the Frontiersman are doing their best at restoring the local papers reputation. Hello Wasilla!
And who would know better than Mark Costantino of Derby, New York?

It is curious, but who knows why Track Palin is back at the Wasilla Compound, doing surviellence of the neighbors the last I heard. We did try to do follow up on Deryk Schlessinger (previously investigated by the Army) and the Pentagon scrubbed the evidence but didn't clear him, he conviently disappeared into the Army that protects him. He was a sniper and we hear he has been on duty at the Arizona border fence, don't know if that is true. Schlessinger was a troubled kid with right wing parents, the Army takes in these kids to help straighten them out. If they get in trouble it is kept quite and covered up when necessary. The situation with Track may be similar.

"Godless crazy people like me have become a generation of apathetic killers" and "Giving God reason to drown the world once more." Schlessinger

The up and coming hockey mom, Bristol's new boyfriend has connections to Jeremy Morlock. Will they completely ignore this?

The maximum penalty for conviction for premeditated murder would be life in prison or the death penalty

This has nothing to do with the palins, other than they are family friends. This is one of many cases where a good person commits a crime. Leave Trackm Bristol, Sarah, the Morlocks out of this. 27. sad day for Wasilla Warriors1:14 PM

The specific murders have nothing directly to do with the Palins. The Palins are still leaders in their community. They did effect the attitudes and such in regard to oil money, alcohol and drug problems, the military complex that Eisenhower tried to warn us about, military recruiting and the worst propaganda tools of the military.

This story is very much to do with Sarah Palin, that is why she can't confront it in a significant manner.

She may fail to mention it at all.

It just so happens that the Palins are closer than the "hockey mom" badge that she wears to the Stryker Brigade soldier, Specialist Jeremy Morlock (no one in the military noticed he had any problems soon enough to avoid murder?).

It is not always as important what people say as what they don't say. Wasilla is a place that is known for the Wasilla Mafia and suppression of speech. They may report a news story but what kind of open discussions will papers like the Frontiersman allow? They may say more by suppressing or having no opinions at all.

Discussions are positive and can move people closer to healing and out of their rut, like the one that Wasilla is demonstrating to the whole world. Not all people and communities handle difficulty with so much continued suppression. If anyone is synonymous with suppression and oppression it is Sarah Palin.
"Their stories were not being heard. He heard, and tried to think of a way to bring their stories to other people."

Most of all when "a good person" commits a crime of this international magnitude is when people need more details and to learn what happened. All of Wasilla can bury your heads in the sand, no one is expecting any sudden change around there. I would hope that the soldier's family is not left out, however. I knew a family with a son that committed a brutal crime, a child was a witness and had to testify. The family stood behind the murderer, not the crime. I knew the "good person" side before the murder and it is very complex and confusing trauma. It would be a sorry thing if Morlocks's own family leaves themselves out of his life now that things are so bad for the accused.

No one blames the Morlock family. They are victims. It is a tragedy first for the Afghanistan victims and their families. There may be more soldiers involved and those families are victims. This is not the first time "a good person" goes to serve their country and ends up committing unspeakable crimes. Their home town is not at fault, but people will want to know the atmosphere and how it is they ended up so tortured.

Not everything that has ties to Wasilla involves the Palins. When it is a hockey player, a friend of the family and a Stryker, that does involve the Palins. Morlock, if found guilty, would not be the first. THIS IS A CASUALTY OF WAR. It is not the story the neocons or recruiters want told. Can you imagine trying to recruit and having to have an intelligent conversation about this war time phenomena?

I only meant Palin was in no shape or form a reason for the "murder". Again, we have no specifics or truth - just what the media has reported. Of course everyone in Wasilla is thought of, but would that be the case if he were from a slightly bigger town, or Manhattan for that matter? War affects everyone differently. Someone people internalize, some people live normal happy lives afterward, some self destruct, some commit homicide or suicide. YOU CANNOT BLAME ANY OTHER PARTY FOR ONE PERSONs ACTIONS.

This is why we must uncover and end the CIAs plans to invent a "mnidreading machine" and end their use of hypnotism do evil things.

  31. Remember a huge amount of the problems are caused by poor leadership. They also know many of the soldiers are sick with PTSD and they send them back to war. They give them medications and tell them to carry on(benzos make PTSD worse and cause addiction). Remember when you were young and impressionable and beleived what our leaders told you? The rabid promotion of "christianity" and the belief that those who are not "christian" are not valued people are part of the problem. Many have been told to just shoot "hajis". Those running the war machine always come up with a name for the enemy, gooks, japs, jerries, commies, etc., this helps to demonize them. In his book, Fixing Hell, Col. Larry C. James Phd., the army psychologist sent to straighten out Abu Ghraib wrote about what he found when he got there. No mental health treatment for soldiers or inmates, inexperienced interogators who had no idea what they were doing, prison guards with no training, people sleeping while on guard duty, filthy conditions for everyone(including horrible situations with toilets), and the commanders did not stay at Abu Ghraib(they left the soldiers by themselves). This allowed a sick sociopathic leader on night shift to direct the young guards to do horrific things. Dr. James ended up with PTSD himself from this experience. He is now retired from the army.

The military, Pentagon, CIA and more are government. I don't want to say it is all evil but they have more rotten evil than most. The military is the largest part of government. British Petroleum is also at the bottom of a rotten barrel of evil monkeys. Oil, war and Sarah Palin saying she would be the Commander in Chief.

Palin is a puppet and a mouth piece, so she gets the brunt of what she represents. I don't blame her for the many murders that her friend is accused of doing. She claims to be running for President, that may be a lie for her to bilk money out of people, even so she makes the claim and some people treat her as if she is a possible candidate. She needs to act like she is running for President or get off the pot. She must show leadership. Here no one may care about the Afghan victims but the rest of the world does care.

I've seen Palin at military events, she gave a speech. What kind of leadership will she show now that her family friend is at the center of a world crime? Will she bury her head in the sand as the propaganda machine spins other stories and distracts from these serial murders? It may be a gang in the military, if that is true it is damn organized. It is only in the USA that people will want to bury their heads like Palin. The world is going to want to know more about what we are creating. The soldier from Wasilla and the others could be taking orders from a higher up that is coming from the chain of command. Where does it stop? We must have answers and we need leaders. Not people who pretend to care so much about hockey, military and their children but do nothing.
What is Sarah doing right now? I bet she doesn't give a hang about her friends. Anybody else would be devastated and consider what Track and Bristol are going through. Where"s Sarah?

The last thing she should do is lead from Facebook when it comes to something that must be devastating to everyone in her tiny town. She will be better off to distract from this 100%, Sarah has the BP problem to take care of and the President's call any minute. She can be appointed to an energy commission with her experience. It will take years for the Army investigations and trial. After that they can all go free.

According to a 2009 People magazine profile of Bristol Palin, Jeremy Morlock's sister April is a friend of Bristol's and attended a "pizza and bingo party" at the Palin residence. And in 2004, Jeremy Morlock played in a high school hockey league with Palin's son Track, who himself served in the Army in Iraq.
One friend, fellow grad April Morlock, tiptoes over with a gift, a silver necklace with a mother-and-child charm. "In the Valley teen pregnancy is, like, huge," says April, referring to the Mat-Su Valley where Wasilla sits. "She's the best mom, really. Bristol's amazing. She's the same old Bristol." I'm sorry but where there's smoke, there's fire... Oh and also, just f.y.i, I heard there were pictures of this guy taken with the dead bodies as if they were trophies... My goodness... Sick as all hell!!! Really, i feel terrible that this dirt bag has ever represented our country and I think we ALL deserve justice for this!

So, is the Morlock family associated with any of the Wasilla churches the Palin family is associated with?

  47. How typical. This is just the kind of thing you'd expect from a friend of the Palins. They're a sick people and it's no surprise they'd go abroad to go kill some people just for fun.

This is a lot different than the Bill Ayres thing by the way. Obama had no real connection with Ayres. But there's a clear connection here between this murdering psychopath and Palin. I bet Bristol probably dated this guy!

We need to pull out of Afghanistan and end our immoral war there. Screw the Republicans and blue dog democrats who want us to stay there and keep killing people. From Haditha to this, only liberal Democrats are willing to call out our military for its crimes. As to the Repukes? Why do they worship death? We need to focus on expanding welfare, green jobs and engaging Iran (not bombing them).

    Obama 2012!!!!!
