From CNEWS:
Heart sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson are still fuming over their public spat with Sarah Palin - they were forced to improve their security arrangements after receiving death threats.
The Alone hitmakers blasted the former U.S. Republican vice-presidential candidate after she used their hit song Barracuda in her 2008 election campaign.
They issued an angry statement reassuring fans they do not share Palin's political views - but the incident caused some supporters to walk away from the band, and the rockers were later targeted by "crazies".
Nancy Wilson tells Classic Rock magazine, "Some of the fans decided they didn't like us and didn't like our music any more. At least for a while. We were out on the road, and the next show that we played after that was somewhere in Florida - which is not where you wanna be if you're a Democrat.
"We were kinda nervous, but we upped our security and kept a close watch on people walking in. Luckily - knock on wood - of all the crazies who have threatened to take us down, nobody so far has done that."
I am sometimes amazed at how many people essentially became collateral damage when they had the misfortune of getting on the wrong side of Sarah Palin and her minions.
We have seen these nutjobs go after David Lettterman, Shannyn Moore, Mike Wooten, Joe McGinniss, Mercede Johnston, Katie Couric, The Dixie Chicks, Seth MacFarlane, and many. many others, not to mention myself.
They are incredibly vicious and infantile in their outrage, but for some it can leave deep and ugly emotional scars that may fundamentally change a person's ability to feel safe and to trust that the people they are interacting with do not wish to do them harm.
In many ways THAT is the legacy of Sarah Palin.
P.S. I have a request.
If ANY of you are planning to attend Glenn Beck's highly insensitive "Restoring Honor" debacle on August 28th I would REALLY like some pictures and perhaps a short write up of your experiences. I have a feeling that this rally may help to usher in the end of Sarah Palin's career, and I don't want to miss it.
Then if you would not mind sending your information to Gryphen2009@yahoo.com I would really appreciate it.
However if you DO go let me caution you to keep yourself safe. There is no telling just how insane such a gathering might be, and I would feel horrible if any of you were to get harassed or injured during your reconnaissance mission.
I'm going. I need some ideas for a sign. I am making it out of goretex (Like Kathleen G. did in Homer, but not as large)so I can fold it up and only use it if I feel safe.
ReplyDeleteCrazies indeed. I look at Stupid Sarah and her daft followers and I think back to high school and guy friends who dated equally vapid girls. Much like I asked my guy friends, I want to ask her followers, "Really, what do you see in her?" Only problem is that I don't want to be covered in spittle and Cheeto dust which I'm sure would be the case if I attempted to ask a Stupid Sarah fan that question.
ReplyDeleteNow, off to see if any Heart music is available on iTunes...
Where is Bristol hiding to have new baby? Did she leave the State?
ReplyDeleteWill Sarah drag Trig to Beck love fest?
If Willow stays home while Sarah is in DC.. please all Alaskans lock your houses and hide your booze.
Regarding signs at the event. The Washington Mall and the monuments there are a National Park. The Beck group doesn't have a private reservation. You have every right to display any sign you want. If you are harassed, there will be DC police and Nat'l Park police who will protect you. During last year's 9/12 event, people carrying dissenting signs were surrounded by police protecting their right to speech. DC is very experienced with this stuff. Don't be afraid.
ReplyDeleteAnon @6:45 - excellent! A while back I went to lend their Greatest Hits to a friend and the CD case was empty. Guess I'll go over to iTunes and replace it. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAnon 6:45, I am going and bringing my tweens to give them a little lesson about the First amendment. May I suggest Worst Governor Ever? A tribute to Kathleen and Alaska!
ReplyDeleteMine will say something like Palin/Beck's First Amenment only 4 White Christians . Also will bring one sayin Palin/ Beck's Fox News Owned By Saudi Prince Who Funded Park51. Palins Employed By BP and Hugo Chavez, Palin/ Beck making millions from Teabagger Fear and Hate
No worries about safety... it will be full of old white people and unlike in VA, the gun nuts are not allowed to strap on their manhood in DC
If I were to attend the debacle and wanted a sign I'd have something referencing the civil rights' march:
ReplyDeleteBridges connect us
--Edmund Pettus Bridge
or divide us
--Gravina Island Bridge
Don't know if you covered this or not Gry.
ReplyDeleteRocker Sheryl Crow Records Anti-Palin Anthem

As folks are speaking of Kathleen in Homer this morning. I thought I would mention that I had donated to one of her causes, and my Homer connection told me hundreds of dollars have been donated to both of them, in support of Kathleen.

Yes! :-)
Anonymous comment #1 - re: sign
ReplyDeleteAny quote by MLK, attributed of course.
It would be quite appropriate.
I read a good story last nite about a tea bagger debacle in Ohio. I normally don't read TPM but I recommend this story as not all is what it appears:
ReplyDeleteAnatomy Of A Fail: Rise And Fall Of The Tea Party Exchange
This article about Heart comes out two years after that fact? WORRIED MUCH? Not to mention that (unlike you who state everything as FACT) I doubt very much that Gov. Palin had anything to do with the music being played.
ReplyDeleteIf it is at all possible to get a picture of Palin in the same frame as a racist placard, that'd be wonderful. Let her explain here way out of THAT circumstance. I despise every bloody bone in that "woman's" bloody, political succubus that she is.
ReplyDeleteAny special area that you will be meeting up at for this event? I may attend if I can. I don't mind going alone but it would be better in a group. Thanks
ReplyDeleteI have not decided on a sign yet consider having many signs. Some ideas I have are Palin Poltical Pyromaniac, or Heh! Shakespeare! You don't represent all of the United States! I ruled out the most simple one "F You Palin" for it isn't my style:)
ReplyDeleteI did fantasize momentarily about renting trucks to carry enormous loudspeakers to blare Martin Luther King's I Have A Dream speech in honor of him and civil rights and oops drown out Palin Beck BS christians anti the majority of America circus act.
Someone needs to clue them in that America is here, no one took it away and no one appointed them to represent the entire nation.
I am so incensed about this I think if I were a black person no hell hath my fury to be there to stand up to the pseudo God lovin' phony christians.
Anon 6:35 You can write on both sides of your banner..just in case.
ReplyDeleteToo bad Kathleen G did not write on the back of hers "not surprised you tore this down"!
Question: if Sarah brings Trig..is it now ok if the crowd calls the Palins "nigger"? just sayin..given it's ok with Palin..and her comprehension of the Constitution?
Anon 6:59: Tune in for the next episode of How the Palin World Spins on TLC.
OK I just read on the event website that no signs are allowed! Hmmm...
ReplyDeleteI think it would be worth a re-investigation of Palin's "Sambo beat the bitch" comment.
ReplyDeleteI remember reading this when this controversy was hot back when McCain & the grifter were on the camPAIN (incorrect spelling intentional) trail. It's hilarious:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.snopes.com/politics/mccain/barracuda.asp
What is not hilarious is the reaction of the grifter supporters. Not funny at all. Which is what this post is really about.
If they (Ann & Nancy Wilson) are still facing hate-rage from grifter supporters to this day those people need to move on, find a new flag-bearer for their hate. I hear Dr. Laura has a lot of free time on her hands.
I am particularly amused by all of the grifter supporters ranting about Heart as "has-beens" -- what, they're supposed to record music year after year to keep everyone happy? Whatever. Heart has some great stuff to their credit, and if they don't want it used, without permission, that is their right.
SMR
I was tempted to attend the rally, but concerns over (1) parking and (2) safety held me back. These ARE Beckerheads we're talking about! I'll be on the lookout for blog entries and YouTube videos after the event, so hopefully information will be available on the rally.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I do plan to infiltrate the Faith and Freedom Coalition Conference and the Value Voters Summit in September. As someone who makes it his business to keep a wary eye on the Religious Right, I couldn't stay away. If anyone else plans to infiltrate, let me know.

ReplyDelete"...I doubt very much that Gov. Palin had anything to do with the music being played."
I'd agree with you on this point. Sarah Palin never takes responsibility for anything relating to her that turns sour.
She should tag her messages with "I'm Sarah Palin, and I blame and refudiate everyone else for anything that might make me look foolish, vengeful, bullying, dishonest, or incompetent. Also, too however, if something slips by and makes me look good, I approviate this message"
I have been chatting with people supporting Beck and going to the Rally. Most of them seem really nice and sincere, but way more religious and naive than what I usually encounter. They really, truly trust Beck. They are aware of my political leaning and said that if I would come to the Rally, they would look after me. I think a better idea would be to go and protest respectfully so we are not demonized and to show we can disagree and still be civil.
ReplyDeleteAlso, there seems to be some infighting among the group coming to the Mall over Beck's being a mormon. You know whether or not that's really Christian. I'd like to see this movement disintegrate from within. Let's not give them a common enemy to unite them.
ReplyDeleteSarah = Hatred, vengence, venom
ReplyDeleteor
Sarah the Anti-Christian
If I could go I'd have a sign that said something along the lines of:
ReplyDeleteCackles of Rads greatest rock band ever
or
any quote by Shakespeare a la Shakespalin speak.
I can't wait to hear reports from you brave boots on the ground folks.
"if Willow stays home while Sarah is in DC.. please all Alaskans lock your houses and hide your booze."
ReplyDeleteIf you live in Track's neck of the woods you might want to have your hair done before stepping out on your porch, you never know when the Army has a scout looking out for the enemy lame stream media.
The Paliban is hard at work sending out as much hate as possible, what would Jesus say?
ReplyDeleteBeck is a Mormon and the church actually allows African Americans now. I won't be surprised if they aren't cleaning up for this event in order to look more diverse. This rally may be in part to prove to the critics that they are not racists. The people who attend will have some marching orders, they will get the message of how Beck wants this to look. If the extreme racial stuff shows up it can also be an opportunity for Beck people to film how they won't stand for it.
ReplyDeleteJust b/c the looniest racists could rule before doesn't mean that is how they stage this one. Don't assume they haven't learned anything and they will repeat mistakes. Once in awhile they do learn.
10:16 AM
ReplyDeleteMormons believe Jesus was in South America or some elaborate message from their originator. From an evangelist point of view you can't be much more anti-Christ unless you are Muslim or Jewish.
Mormons love Jesus and see they see themselves as Jesus loving and Christian. Christians have another take. They will all get together for politics even if they believe the other is the devil.
Haven't read the comments yet but something that I've wondered about for awhile is the tag of "Barracuda" itself. Not long after first hearing about Palin, I know I read comments from one of her high school teammates who said "I don't remember anybody ever calling her a Barracuda." The woman didn't appear to have been friends with Palin. Anybody remember that?
ReplyDeleteIs the barracuda nickname more of a myth than reality? Seems to me that Palin's toughness was pure hype from the beginning. Viciousness with indiscriminate attacks is a more accurate description.
Mormons beliefs
ReplyDeletehttp://www.mormonbeliefs.org/
6. Jesus visited the Americas
http://listverse.com/2008/02/04/top-10-bizarre-mormon-beliefs/
Mormonism is one of the fastest-growing religions in the United States and in many other areas around the world. As the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (”Mormon Church”) grows, so does the interest in Mormon beliefs. So what is it about Mormon beliefs that interests people?
http://www.crazymormonbeliefs.com/
So are these Mormon beliefs crazy or are they true?
While most people don’t know a lot about Mormon beliefs, many have heard somewhere along the way that their beliefs are different or “weird.” Is this really the case?
First, it’s important to understand where these labels of ”crazy”, “weird”, “bizarre”, or “strange” come from.
Unfortunately, some Christians attempt to portray Mormon beliefs in this way, rather than engaging in sincere discussion.
Unless you are distinctly apart and clearly protesting, I fear that the Beckster will count every single breathing body as being a supporter. Remember how Fox inflates the body count anyway.
ReplyDeleteI doubt Fox will cover protesters, and I don't have a lot of hope that the MSM will either. Our primary hope will rest with ordinary people taking photos and videos of the protests and how large the crowd of Beck-Palins poops really is.
I keep FauxNews blocked on my TV but last night, I unblocked to watch Glenn Beck. I wanted to see how he's hyping the 8/28 Rally.
ReplyDeleteThe message they're putting out is conflicting. Palin supporting "Dr." Laura and Ted Nugent - also a headliner at the Beck Rally - told a crowd where he appeared that it was good to see so many white people (paraphrased). But Beck is trying to connect himself to MLK, Jr.? It's no secret that Beck is a racist so what's he doing? The man is crazy - they're all crazy.
I can't remember anything anymore! The main purpose of my comment was to say that Beck said last night to "leave your signs at home". He doesn't want the bad publicity of the racist signs.
ReplyDeleteSeems that BUSLOADS of Beck/Palin supporters are being transferred from CHURCHES to the rally.
ReplyDeleteHow rich is THAT?
Gather at the churches to be bused to the racist hate fest!
SP - Leaves Hawaii college quickly because (according to daddy) she was uncomfortable with all the Asian people.
SP - "Sambo beat the bitch!"
SP - refuses to sign (as Gov.) the Juneteenth Proclamation, honoring freedom of slavery.
SP - Supports Dr. Laura's scraming of "Ni***r" over and over on radio - tweets her support minutes after Ted's funeral - orders from Murdoch?
Naw, not racist - not at all. Humph.
Although signs won't be allowed at this particular rally, I think that Virginia Voter has a point -- EVERY event should have at least one person with a "Worst Governor Ever" sign. Photos should be taken and posted so that Kathleen can see how much we appreciate her bravery and hate the trauma that the Palinbots put her through.
ReplyDeleteI can not help but wonder how the Wilsons allow Rush Limbaugh to use one of their songs as a show standard every day and then speak up only about Quitty McQuitter. Limbaugh is far more evil right now.
ReplyDeleteThe prudent means of transportation would be the metro.
ReplyDeleteWe could meet with supporters and ride a bus to hear the 'rill' americun christians repeating lies. Yes, it is irony churches are busing in people for a hate fest especially on the anniversary of King's march and speech. After Palin's tweets defending the "n" word this ought to be some more violence and hate spewing coming.
Do you think ammending Kathleen G's sign to read "worst governor ever in half the time" is overkill?
I hope it does not rain for Palin's hand notes might run and she'd be speechless.
Do you think they will wear costumes again impersonating Janis Joplin and Beck a western star?
I want Obama to declare a parade in tribute to those who served in Iraq on Pennsylavania Ave. the same day.
Gryphen: I did some searches to learn more about Beck's rally. On his site he says "it is not political". He had a photo of John Rich that linked to a brief video asking him about the Honor rally. Rich stated "it is not political..blah blah..we're taking our country back..blah blah..there will be no politicians up there. Then I searched the TAking Our Country Back rally he mentioned he was part of http://www.okcteaparty.org/april-14-rally-inforesources/june-23-2010-taking-our-country-back-tour-pep-rally/
ReplyDeleteRight, it is not political. This John Rich is lying when his lips move. I had no idea they are pushing their rally as nonpolitical.
http://www.vetvoice.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=3799
ReplyDeleteBeck is using a charity to pay for his Restoring Honor rally.
This is in reality a Tea Bagger, Beck and Palin divide America. This is not to honor the military or their families. It is a false front to lure people in.
These 'christians' are anything but christians, they are imposters for power and money. maybe they'll sell souvenier snake oil.
Don't quote me but I think Al Sharpton said no signs too. They want a peaceful demonstration and basically ignore those morons showing up.
ReplyDeleteAs far as Mormons I feel as a friend I should speak up. I don't believe in any God but I do have several Mormon friends. They dislike Beck, voted for Obama, don't hate gay people, are in interracial marriages, and good people. I guess as with anything we can't lump people into a group.
First of all, I like the idea of "worst gov ever" signs being repeated as a recurring theme. People who know the phrase will remember the bravery of Kathleen and people who don't know will ask and then seek out the video. Constant reference to that jump the shark moment for Sarah would be a great thing.
ReplyDeleteSecondly, I read some of the old comments on that Heart link, and some poster there made a good point about "some" young people posting that they don't care and never heard of the song, who also do not remember a time in America without war. A time of peace and prosperity. I thought about that and thought, my god that's right. This is all they know.
I work down there, but they'll be at the far opposite end of the Mall from us. Although they will be clogging the sidewalks and the Metro stations. Not looking forward to next weekend.
ReplyDeleteM in MD
Busses in Anchorage being loaded from churches to attend the Beck/Palin thing on the 28th? Reminds me of the Assembly meetings of the M of A when they were bringing in their numbers to fight the gay issues in Anchorage. I would suspect those in busses that will be attending will actually come from the Baptist Temple group and Jerry Prevo. He and his wife were the 'only' ones that gave Toad and Sarah a warm welcome to their church when they entered for the Senator Stevens funeral.
ReplyDeleteI am so sick of the corruption going on in Alaska - from religion to local and state government. Palin is being proven to be 'the worst governor that Alaska has ever had'.
I heard a rumor that Ann Wilson is a Muslim. Wait. Nancy Wilson is the Muslim, that's it. No, wait. It IS Ann, Im almost sure. Or is it Nancy? Damn! I bet Sister Sarah, the half-Hearted, quasi-intelligent, semi-lovely, part-time former demi-governor of all of Alaska, half of Texas and 12% of Alabama would know!!! Where, oh where, is she when we need her? (And how can we get her to stay there?)
ReplyDeleteI will not be surprised if Beck is determine to show the world that he is not a racist. Aren't they filling up their buses at different churches, there are no black churches? He is expecting everyone to pounce on white racists. People are preparing to pounce on how racist the crowd looks. He is a showman above all. He loves to do theater and the unexpected. Whatever they are doing it is created to play on the Fox channels as proof.
ReplyDeleteSign suggestions for another event maybe...
ReplyDelete1. Many people holding up signs in the shape and color of tomatoes.(remember the book signing event?) with
'Sheryl Crow rocks!', the word 'Hate' within the no symbol,
'I love Quitters','I love the Grifter Queen'.
2. A sign in shape of a hand, that on one side says "If you can read this, thank a Teacher" ... and on the other side "If you write on this, then go back to school"...
3. Signs in shape of fences...
and on all with 'Go Home Grifters!'
4. "Why to you hate Americans that aren't like you?"
5. "Are you rich enough yet?"
6. "Sarah Palin - 2009 Liar of the Year Winner"
7. "Truth is not in your vocabulary"
8. "Your hate is not welcomed here"
9."Sarah, is your $100,000 donation to the Tea Party still in the mail?"
Thanks in advance, Anon6:45am for attending the Beck event, and letting us know how it goes.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear the Wilson sisters were threatened because they objected to their song being used to hype Quitty during the election campaign.
Mormonism was one of the fastest-growing religions in America during the 1960's. Today, not so much.
Beck's self-perceived "priesthood authority" is another factor in his general nuttiness.
Even if no signs are allowed, you can always get a cheap white Tshirt and write your sign on the shirt with a big black Sharpie.
ReplyDeleteYou're lying so low in the weeds
ReplyDeleteI bet you're gonna ambush me
You'd have me down, down, down, down on my knees
Now wouldn't you, barracuda?
And if the real thing don't do the trick
You better make up something quick
You gonna burn, burn, burn, burn, burn it to the wick
Ooooh, barracuda!
Glen Beck has a permit to have his rally at the Lincoln Memorial, but he CANNOT stop anyone from bringing a sign. It is the National Mall. He cannot restrict anyones right of freedom of speech.
ReplyDelete
