Glenn Beck does not believe in Evolution because, "I have not seen the half-monkey, half-person yet!" I guess Beck does not have any mirrors in his house.

Okay so what is REALLY going on here ?

Is Glenn Beck really this big of a dumbass?  Or is he just pandering to the inbred paint chip eaters that listen to his radio show? His argument that, unlike evolution, people were not once resistant to the idea that the earth is round, is something that almost any fourth grader in America would find jaw-droppingly ignorant.

I find it virtually impossible to believe that a man who is as business savvy, and gifted at self-promotion, as Glenn Beck could be this ignorant about basic science.

I mean when Christine O'Donnell opens her mouth and turds of stupidity fall out, I have no problem believing that her elevator only goes to the second floor of her intellectual skyscraper. But Glenn Beck is not that stupid.

IS he?

After all, the guy has his own university!

I've been amazed at the amount of "Smart" people who blindly follow the creation theory without question because their religion tells them it's the truth. Glenn Beck may not be stupid, but he's choosing to not question the drivel his religion is brainwashing him with. Faith in the absurd is one of the many reasons I can never be religious.

I get it now. He's on this great investigative social project where he's going to finally reveal in a book how he pulled a much more lengthy "Joaquin Phoenix."

From a drive time disc jockey (which wasn't paying much and didn't encourage much of a following) he developed this outrageous character that espoused all the characteristics of the extreme, hypocritical Right and shows off how big and lucrative a platform he was given for such outrageous abuse of facts in favor of half-wit ideologies.

It would be brilliant albeit insulting to the thinking world and to the people he inspired hope and regression with.

All this will be overshadowed when Sarah finally comes out with the million dollar interview where she admits she adopted Trig in an effort to save his life and prove to the world that Special Needs kids are such a blessing.

Never mind she perpetrated a sainted, self-sacrificing fraud to personally gain national notoriety and an undeserved slot on a Presidential ticket.

These modern day hucksters make snake oil and Bible salesmen look like penny-ante fools. The Balloon Boy Family, Octomom, John Mark Karr will all bemoan the ridiculous tactics they used to pursue the super star status Sarah and Glen achieved with such minimal effort - talk about God, abortion, the soliders and the greatness of America? The payoff is unbelievable.

Glenn Beck isn't stupid. He's smart enough to know that he has a large following of brain-dead zombies who dote on every absurd word that comes out of his mouth. It's all about ratings for Glenn. He says whatever he has to to keep his zombies watching. And I think he enjoys getting people all riled up over stupid stuff - kind of a power trip.

He's pandering. This is the same asinine logic anti-evolutionists have been using for a century now. I've heard fundamentalist preachers (my folks are fundies) throw this little nugget of intellectual genius out from the pulpit to a rapt, starry-eyed congregation. It's one of those coded messages to Evangelicals that the right is so fond of.

I can't begin to explain how much my head and soul hurt when I hear that moron speak. He is just looking for something new to be "out front" with. He knows he sounds ridiculous, he doesn't care. He can't, he is not of human form. His own existence should be a clue to him that somehow he fell off the evolutionary train. Some one on HP suggested that the monkey parts were on the inside and for him to think outside the box--I thought that was a good funny to share.

Anon 4:26, thanks for the link!

So Grassley's aide doesn't think SP is serious about running for POTUS? Gee, ya think?

Palin's flack says that Palin's putting "family first" is the reason why she doesn't commit to or backs out of events: “People lose sight of the fact that this is a woman with certain responsibilities that other major figures in the Republican Party don’t have — in her case, five kids, one of whom is very young,”

So making campaign appearances all over the country is too much due to how she selflessly puts family first (snort), but, but, but.... she could totally handle being VP or POTUS?! WTF kind of logic is that?! Can't have it both ways, dingdongs! If you use that logic, there's NO way she could handle the 18-month slog that is a campaign for POTUS, never mind BEING President.

However, my favorite tidbit from the article is this: "She has a lone staffer with a background in opposition research handling all of her interaction with campaigns."

Is that Sarah Palin in a nutshell or what? She has someone who specializes in opposition research acting as her link to other Republicans. You can't make this crap up!

The drip, drip, drip is beginning. Once the midterms are over, more will come out.

OT, but attention, all, Rebecca Mansour has tweeted in defense of her Queen!

Regarding Jonathan Martin's article on Politico, linked by anon 4:26, RAM tweets:

"Oh look, 2012 just began with anonymous GOP jerks backstabbing Palin! Put your name on your comments, your cowards."

Sweet Jesus, this is someone without a shred of self-awareness and a whole lot of insanity. No wonder her idol is Sarah Palin.

  13. This just burns my ass. If he is going to 'teach" others about the theory of evolution he needs to get his facts right.

The Origin of the Species by Darwin often called the Theory of Evolution does not say that man evolved from monkey, it says that in the distant past that we shared a common ancestor and that because of certain factors mutated and branched out to create the human and the ape. We are 99.6% identical to our closest cousin the chimpanzee. Disputing theories based on science in lieu of dogma that refuses to change as facts are introduced is plain stupid.

  15. It's about the willful blinkering of common perceptual realities in the service of profit.
Beck is paid movie-star handsomely to portray a character that is unnatural to himself, and like many other mediocre actors has adopted superficial traits to sell the ruse.
He doesn't need to 'know' the scientific histories of evolution or astronomy...Such knowledge would merely result in more 'tells' of his duplicity being scattered like the leavings of Johnny Liarseed in the muddy ditches of America.

Yes, I've heard this one too - "if evolution exists, why are there monkeys" - followed by a smug, arms-folded position. Um, because you have no idea what evolution actually is or how it works.

The "half-monkey/half-human" thing makes even less sense, if that's possible.

The ability to bilk folks out of their money shouldn't be confused with intelligence. He's found, either by luck or by rating numbers, a "niche" market on which to spew his venom. You can always hire others to manage your fortune...perhaps he just has an overriding greedy nature. I don't necessarily believe that takes "smarts." Just look at Rush & Sarah, not exactly mental heavyweights but both of them do very well financially.

    OT - @ 4:26 AM

The Politico story is interesting as Palin herself recently announced that the, "GOP is finished" lest they see the way of the Teabaggers. Why the GOP would have anything to do with her after that is beyond me, especially when they realize the potential of her draw.

The problem with the "I have not seen the half-monkey, half-person yet" argument is the counter argument is overwhelming. "I have not seen the Intelligent Designer yet... and you are contending that I NEVER will".

Beck burbles whatever sells to the low information complacent ignorant bigots.

The people who have "no use for evolution theory" are picking and choosing the science they want to discard. "Science" is the true gift from God, however. The bible does not mention germs, bacteria, virus per se. Humans invented science and used it discover handy things like immunizations. If a person is willing to forego the use of internal combustion engine and return to horsepower for transportation, then their claim to despise science would be creditable. Otherwise they are just blowhard crackpots.

In Common Nonesense, a book about Beck, the author tells this story about a hoax Beck pulled off while working in Baltimore. He told his listeners that an underground amusement park was being built. He built the story up for months, and then staged an opening day, complete with sound effects and fake interviews. Many of his listeners were taken in, they spent hours driving around the beltway looking for the entrance to the fictitious underground amusement park. One angry couple had even given up a no-refund cruise in order to be at the opening.

These poor gullible souls then became the punchline as they called into his show asking for directions to the park.

Beck built his career on these types of mean spirited pranks.
His listeners are the butt of his jokes, they always have been. The scale of the hoax has increased with his ego and his success, but the basic formula is the same.

I don't believe he believes what he says, or even cares. It's purely opportunistic, and it's all about the money, and his listeners are still the butt of the joke.

It's not about laughs anymore though. Now it's about ideological brainwashing, turning his brain dead listeners into zombie activists for the billionaire power brokers who Beck ultimately works for.

Hey, Becky! The reason that the theories of where we came from are changing is because of NEW discoveries. Scientists will always be the first to admit they are wrong when they find a better answer to their hypotheses. How many religious people will say that they were wrong about anyhing? hmmm???

This is an excellent video that explains how we have a fused gene that we share with the great apes which is why we have less chromosomes than they do.

Somewhat OT, and please don't flame me:

I'm intelligent, well-educated (master's degree in humanities from well-known state university), well-read, and politically moderate to liberal. But I don't believe in evolution as the origin of life. I won't say I disbelieve it; I simply don't know enough about it.

I grew up in a fundamentalist home and school and all our textbooks were A Beka. I know they are full of BS about many things, including science, but I'm also not going to believe evolution just because that's what the mainstream thinks.

My dad is an engineer and has some colleagues who have done scientific work that seems, from my understanding, to support creation. And from what I know about evolution, it seems to me to require as much faith--in scientists, in the ability to accurately date fossils, in the missing link--as belief that God created the world.

But I'm truly interested in learning more so I can be more informed in my views. If anyone can recommend books that present evolution for someone who grew up being taught creation, I'd like to read some.

I just don't get it. I'm a Christian. Meaning I believe in God and that Jesus died for our sins. Yes, I know, you can ridicule my religion and call it a fantasy, but believing there is a power greater than myself that cares about me helps me cope with life. It gives me peace. Having said that. My faith does not lead me to blindly believe every word of the bible as undisputed fact. Taking the bible literally is absurd. Every thing man touches is corrupted. The bible has been rewritten, translated, bent to political and religious ends. To believe in the Bible literally is to miss the meaning of the Bible.
To believe that there is a mass conspiracy to disprove creationism is just unthinkable. And yet that is what I've heard from other Christians. Too many scientists from all walks of life and faiths would have to cover up the conspiracy. The world is not 6,000 years old. The part that gets me the most riled up is that someone who believes God can do all things also believes he couldn't create a much more complicated and wonderful world/universe. I am afraid. Truly scared of the Christians who have no desire to think critically. No desire to test their faith by challenging their beliefs. Faith without critical thinking is nothing in my eyes but blind obedience. Obedience to what? The pastor? The congregation? I believe God desires us to have faith with knowledge. That kind of faith is much stronger than the faith that requires you to close your eyes, ears and mind and to only spout propaganda from your mouth.
Personally, I cannot see how a Christian can vote for a Republican. They have the most un-Christian ideas. A~

  33. Just came across this blog and it's pretty good. As far as evolution theory goes, it's more accepted scientifically than a lot of theoretical physics is. Evolutionary theory is basically the "unifying field theory" of biology. And before someone says "Aha! It's a theory!" Please understand that the scientific use and the standard use of the word "theory" are very different. Check out aronra and donexodus2 on YouTube for a decent education in evolutionary biology without all of those finicky professors. Again, thanks for the blog.
