Tom DeLay, the former U.S. House majority leader whose name became synonymous with the Republicans’ controversial rise to power in the Texas House, was found guilty this evening of laundering money in connection with the 2002 elections.
Jurors sent a note on yellow legal paper that a verdict had been reached to the judge at 4:46 p.m. They had deliberated for nearly 19 hours, since Monday afternoon.
The unanimous verdict on two criminal charges was read to a hushed courtroom three minutes later. DeLay, who moments earlier had been smiling, appeared shocked as the 12 jurors — six men and six women — reported their decision one by one.
And it could not happen to a more deserving person.
Personally I thought he should have received the gas chamber just for wearing this outfit alone.
Hmm, former politician goes on DWTS and then ends up convicted of a felony.
I believe I have had a change of heart. I DO think Sarah Palin should go on DWTS next season.
But only if she loses to the black guy again, and then goes straight to prison.
Now,will they find prosecutorial malfeasance and dismiss the charges? It all depends on what he has on other people.
ReplyDeletePut the motherfucker away!!!
ReplyDeleteOff topic, but I think this gal is channeling Sarah Palin.

Rick
We Democrats in Texas are quite happy about this as we were worried he would be found not guilty. Did you notice when he was on DWTS he had only one buttcheek due to wearing a tight Spanx? When he was in the Texas house he was called "Hottub Tom." He was just maintaining those "family values" of course.
ReplyDeleteAgree with @5:38. Hope the Repubs. are shaking!

I just stopped by to wish everyone an early Happy Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteI will be saying thanks for my wonderful husband, children and grandchildren. They make me so proud!
Hugs all around.

it sure is nice to see that there is still some justice in this world. wonder what his sentence will be?
ReplyDeleteI know he will appeal, but I am hoping he has to serve the full five-year minimum.
ReplyDeleteMaybe he can use his pre-politico talents as an exterminator to ensure the cells are insect-free, though to me he will always be a cockroach.
This man seriously creeps me out. I gave up DWTS when they brought him on.
ReplyDeleteHe's appealing. Not in that outfit. That's appalling.
ReplyDeleteHe's appealing the verdict.
Another happy Texan checking in!
ReplyDeleteI always thought he should be brought up on charges for his DWTS appearance alone.
Sounds like a plan, Gryphen!
ReplyDeleteYep, cheap criminal. It was so sick to watch him on DTWS and see people fawning over him. He is one of those that I can't even look at without getting a shiver. McCain's another one.
ReplyDeleteOkay, Phil's comment is cracking me up. My accidental introduction to DWTS was seeing Tom Delay dancing the cha cha. It was pretty damn funny. Maybe in prison he can start DWCB8 (dancing with cell block 8).
ReplyDeleteOne down and a few hundred to go. They need to be investigating every republican and a few democrats as well.
ReplyDeleteGood. Take this asshole straight to jail and Do Not Pass Go! Don't drop the soap!
ReplyDeleteYou have to post this Gryphen. Rush got his lard Ass handed to him.
"Rush attacks 'Car of the Year' Chevy Volt and Moter Trend responds - MUST READ!!"

Delay - Dancing with the bars!
ReplyDeleteFor Celia at first comment -
Delay could take Rove down with him - but probably won't - fascinating stuff linking the two:

Wishing a Happy Thanksgiving to Gryphen and those who read his blog.
ReplyDeleteAs for Sarah dancing with the stars next season, that is going to depend on a number of things. So far, her book is not drawing the crowds that she drew last year. The reality show's ratings dropped 40% in week two. George H.W.Bush likes Mitt; Barbara wants Sarah to stay in Alaska. David Fum thinks that she will sink the party, both in years to come, and cost elections for republicans down the ticket. Judging from that North Korea crack, Sarah hasn't bothered to study since she prepared for the Katie Couric interview. If life continues like this for Sarah, she will be begging them to let her show off her runner's legs and tight abs.
Sarah is quickly burning through her limited time as a celebrity. I hope that she doesn't have the staying power as a candidate. She didn't last very long in the much easier job, governor of Alaska. When republicans have a serious discussion about Sarah, and get past the publicity, the eye winking and the buzz, they shake their heads and wonder how anyone can claim that quitting the job of governor was a good thing. I hope that Dancing with the Stars is Sarah's last best hope for 2011.
OT, but Snowdrift Snookie is at it again. This time she insults a former first lady and our current first lady with one fell swoop. She calls Barbara Bush a blue blood for telling Scarah to stay in Alaska and kicks Michelle Obama for trying to help children fight obesity. The health of our children is in jeopardy due to epidemic childhood obesity and rather than help save lives and encourage better health, Scarah doubles down on her jealousy for the President and first lady. Bible Spice would rather develop death panels for 8 year olds than help fight childhood obesity! Please remember that she is also the lady who wants to repill medical benefits for children and families (unless, of course, her family gets them!) so when your children get diabetes due to obesity, you won't be able to afford insulin.
ReplyDeleteAs an aside, Snowdrift Snookie, helping fight obesity would save billions of dollars in health care costs and drop the deficit. Damn those socialists for another compelling cause!
Sarah and the rest of her brood sink to new depths every day.

It just occurred to me that DWTS was the best thing ever that could happen.
ReplyDeleteABC has revealed how low-class, ignorant and skanky the $Palin family is, how $he has raised her children (or neglected them to raise themselves, using drugs, alcohol, vandalism, sex, unwed pregnancy, foul language, lack of basic education, etc., etc., etc.) to us.
Now we know. We have been so exposed to this craziness that we are beginning to say enough.
Thank you DWTS for creating the beginning of the end ... of the $Paylins.
As President Obama said,
$arah Who?
Are you kidding me? They had the Hammer on DWTS? The guy's a felon. Is DWTS some kind of Right Wing outfit? First Delay, then Palin...any other GOP'ers? Is Dick "eff you" Cheney going on next?
ReplyDeleteBoy, I miss the old days, when to be a good fascist you had to destroy your enemies by yourself, and create your own propaganda machine. But now, it's a turn-key operation. Political creeps get to have instant support through Fox and other television venues, and probably through radio megaliths like ClearChannel, and in print through Murchoch-owned WSJ, etc. Essentially, all you need is a pulse, and you too can be a right wing star.
Like I said, I miss the good old days when they had to wear ugly outfits and run through the street clubing innocent civilians and smashing store windows. Nobody works for it anymore.
How odd...Delay has the same smarmy grin in his booking photo as my ex-husband the child rapist. That pretty much tells me all I need to know about Hot Tub Tom.
ReplyDeleteHis next gig will be "Dancing Behind the Bars" for 5 seasons or so....
ReplyDelete2:42, you are hilarious!
ReplyDeleteI'm personally wondering what is next for the young, expecting Palin. Is she going to give her baby up for adoption? Keep it? Keeping it would lead to....complications for her given the circuit she rode talking about saying "I don't know you! That's my purse! Stay out of my vagina!" I wonder if those organizations will sue to get their money back...
ReplyDeleteSarah should take note. Money laundering can send you to prison. Making shell companies so that you can pay yourself out of Pac funds is money laundering.
ReplyDeleteIf he was a Democrat he would have gotten to keep his job in the House and at the most received Censure. Simply a case of belonging to the wrong Party.
