Now that Alaska's Lisa Murkowski has "Gone Rogue" is she Sarah Palin's worst nightmare?

From Politico:

And like any good action-movie character mistakenly left for dead, Murkowski’s coming back with a vengeance, picking fights with Palin and the party’s activist wing.

She tore into Palin in an interview with CBS News last week, telling Katie Couric: “I just do not think that she has those leadership qualities, that intellectual curiosity that allows for building good and great policies.”

Her next target was South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint, the tea party favorite whose PAC spent generously to support Miller in the general election. “I think some of the Republicans in the Congress feel pretty strongly that he and his actions potentially cost us the majority,” she told POLITICO during a visit to Washington.

What is already clear is that Murkowski’s taking every opportunity to settle scores after a bitter election. Alaska pollster Dave Dittman credited Murkowski with a "newfound sense of independence" that’s allowing her to swing back at people she perceives as having wronged her.

“Having won as a write-in without the support of national Republicans gives her the freedom to do that,” Dittman said. “Just from being here and watching it, Sen. Murkowski didn’t initiate it. Gov. Palin, I would say, would be the aggressor.”

Murkowski’s criticism is harsher now, and more insistent. Having defeated a Palin-backed candidate in their shared home state, Murkowski has little to fear from the former governor. And if Palin decides to run for president, it seems likely that she’ll have to contend with the critique of a particularly potent character witness — another Republican woman from Alaska.

Well having just watched the Alaska Democrats last hope of ever getting Murkowski's Senate seat torpedoed by Lisa's write-in campaign, it would at least be a consolation prize to have her decide to slap Palin down whenever she made ridiculous claims about her record or attempted to "Palin-ize" the lower forty-eight's vision of Alaska.

One thing is for sure, Lisa Murkowski is here to stay.  It would be a virtual impossibility for anybody to challenge and win her Senate seat after she managed to win with this historic write-in campaign. For all intents and purposes she is politically bulletproof.

Will she suddenly decide to buck the system and play the Independent, caucusing with either the GOP or Democrats depending on the issue?  Highly doubtful.

Lisa Murkowski is a team player, and likes the idea of being on the Republican team.  Perhaps if the Teabaggers were to gain a stronger foothold, Murkowski might walk away from the GOP, because it is clear she does not agree with their take no prisoners approach to politics, but unless that happens I believe that Murkowski will vote along with the Republicans every time.

Though I will say, that if Murkowski were to flex her political muscles and start becoming more independent she could become perhaps the most powerful Senator in Washington.

Just something to think about Lisa.

I don't think Lisa is settling scores. Note that unlike Palin, there is nothing feline about her. She is doing nothing to make the press go, "I can't believe she said that!!!" She has said nothing untrue and she is matter of fact. Dont expect to hear Lisa make any sexual references to the "cajones" of the POTUS. I doubt her sons will be knocking any young women up or being a liability to her or to Alaska.

I agree with you that she could come out as an independent and be strong-- I think she may. I am counting on it.

This seems like a great example of how sometimes the thing you think of as bad turns out to be something really good.

It would be great if losing the primary then winning the election without the republican party makes Murkowski unafraid to buck the party.

Whether you are on the right or the left you like to think the people who we elect are actually working for the good of their state and the people who sent them to Washington and not just having temper tantrums and holding their breath until they get what they want.

I hope Lisa keeps speaking the truth.

On another note--C4pee had a meetup this month to which Sarah called in. Speakers were Tammy Bruce, Jedidiah Bila, S.E.Cupp,etc. They have printed brochures, conference room, meals--etc. This all costs money and this is supposed to be a lil ole grassroots group. Who funds this kind of stuff? Maybe Palin? Read about the meetup at Palin Promotions--the blog post. Also, it sounds like the guy is going to have a Palin Xmas tree. Too creepy.

Lisa Murkowski and Sarah Palin share one trait in common- they both have class.

Lisa Murkowski is a person of high class, honesty, and integrity.

Sarah Palin is a low class, lying, hypocrite.

O/T, People magazine is basically warning us that Bristol is going to win DWTS... which we already know...and Popeater says Bristol will have no shortage of offers after the show ends. I can imagine the kind of offers she will get! Someone has to be in those direct-to-DVD movies!

It would be fun if someone other than Bristol could win... it's pretty boring knowing already. The "competition" angle is completely gone. They should have given her the trophy a couple weeks ago.

New Quinnepeg (sp?) poll out shows Palin leading Republicans as possible nominee but then being killed by President Obama. Romney has a slight edge over the President and Huckabee is close. Palin gets creamed.

And Romney is NOT going to give Palin a shot as possible VP, even if she'd tolerate that.

"I just do not think that she has those leadership qualities, that intellectual curiosity that allows for building good and great policies."

That's all true, but come on, she's being light on her. "Tearing" into Palin would be to point her out as the fraud that she is.

Lisa Murkowski is a corporate whore. PERIOD. She'll do whatever it takes to keep the oil money contributors happy and therefore contributing to her to continue to keep them happy. She has no convictions other than feathering her own comfortable nest. Joe Miller is an asshole of the first magnitude but anybody who thinks he would have behaved any differently from Murkowski if he'd been elected is just naive. They are two pigs in the same poke - operative word, PIGS. Sarah Palin's candidate may have been rejected, but put a bag over Murkowski, and Palin wouldn't be able to tell the difference despite her ridiculous and totally unsupported by reality claim that Lisa is "liberal."

Bristol may well win DWTS, but she won't be able to capitalize on it immediately. She'll go into retreat for four months for some vague and mysterious reason, then emerge thinner than ever. Meanwhile, some family looking to adopt a baby will get a call - and an order to keep the adoption closed.

Tearing into Palin would have been Lisa calling her stupid and pointing out that the cards were stacked shaker the legit ethics violations complaints since overseers and approvers were Sarah's pawns and that had they not been appointed that the complaints would have gotten her into trouble.

What Lisa said merely implies that she isn't smart enough to be the prez. Nothing about wrongdoing on her part.

Remember, "Hell hath no fury..." If Lisa Murkowski is nothing else, she is a woman scorned. By her erstwhile GOP allies and colleagues, no less.

How rogueified will Murkowski be? I guess it all depends upon how pissed she actually is at the GOP. I can see that Murkowski's rogueification might hinge on how much the GOP actually embraces a Palin candidacy. If the GOP even half supports the idea Palin as their nominee for POTUS, I see Murkowski definitely gettin’ all mavericky in a big way.

Until then I hope she continues to go after the other teabagger buffoons. It’s about damn time someone in the GOP did.

Murkowski does not strike me as someone who plays the victim card either. I'll warrant that many other women politicians will come after Palin in short order. The dam has been breached and it is only a matter of time before more of the higher-ups in both parties come down on Palin like a ton of bricks.

What's she gonna do then? Stamp her feet and pout or get more ugly? Either option is a losing proposition in the eyes of an independent electorate that has already soured on her.

  30. The 1 a.m. drug deal and drinking by Willow is not a surprise - hope it is the first in a long overdue spilling of the beans - a good daily story for a few weeks about the truth behind all things Palin would be nice.

Unfortunately - the word of other teens about this type of behavior is only going to be ignored by the palin-cult followers and dismissed as their "jealousy" by some others too.

Wonder if a republican big-wig some how nudged someone to get these teens to talk - perhaps pointing reporters in the right direction? Or what it was that gave them the courage to finally speak out.

  31. Sorry, Alaskans, but it irks me that a senator representing 700,000 people could be more powerful than one who represents more than 30million.

Politico went a bit overboard by using inflammatory language like Lisa 'tore into Palin' when Lisa makes a statement about Palin that everyone knows is the true assessment of her abilities.

And Willow news - Sarah must be proud of these courageous young men who went public. I hope their courage is contagious.

Hey, OT, but if you publish another Bristol post, and I know you will, you may want to see the weight progression since she started on DWTS. On 9/22, Bristol was not as heavy as she is now, and actually was able to wear real pants, not leggings:

The cult is already out in force about the Willow drug/drinking story. The response is predictable: if the story is true, this just shows that her kids are normal.

Yeah, if Obama's daughters were Willow/Bristol age, and there was a story like this out there about them, somehow I don't think the response from them would be, "Leave them alone! This just shows that they are normal kids!"

So, among these supposed God-fearing admirers of Sarah Palin, we should be relieved when we learn that our kids are drinking and using drugs?

The Palin cult is totally fucked in the head.
