From Reuters:
A bill to provide medical care for firefighters and other responders to the September 11, 2001 attacks passed the Senate on Wednesday after backers struck a deal to end a Senate Republican blockade of the measure.
The so-called James Zadroga 9/11 health bill was approved by the Senate by voice vote and the U.S. House of Representatives was set to pass the measure shortly after the Senate action.
The bill would provide medical treatment for emergency responders sickened by toxic dust inhaled at the World Trade Center site in New York in the days following the attack. Republicans had balked at the initial $7.4 billion cost of the 10-year bill, which had been approved by the House, and blocked Senate passage.
This is turning out to be a great day for justice!
This is a bill that NOBODY should ever have hesitated to support, and the fact that some Republicans stood against it for political reasons should shame them for the rest of their days.
this was so righteous and had the support of everyone but the far right republicans. it's about time and thank you for doing the right thing!
ReplyDeleteHey Griffin, love your site, first time commenter. Just wanted to give you a heads up, check out the comments on Palins' new facebook post about Haiti. The palinbots are going nuts about her helping out Haitians and not America. It's the first time I've seen more negative or disagreeing comments than positive ones on one of her posts. Pretty lulzworthy I'd say. Keep up the good wok man.
ReplyDelete"the fact that some Republicans stood against it for political reasons should shame them for the rest of their days."
ReplyDeleteYou got to be kidding. The Republicans will take credit for this bill pasting.
Just watch and see.
What a past few days for the administration.
ReplyDeleteCut the tax deal
Repeal DADT
Pass the 9/11 first responders health bill.
And also passing the START treaty extension.
LOL, $arah's head must be exploding as the POTUS has the most productive lame duck session..EVER!
Merry Effing Xmas $arah!
I would note that the dead man in the picture is Father Michael Judge, a Franciscan priest who was killed by a falling body while he was hearing the confessions of responders about to go into the towers. A brave man, and greatly beloved by the NYFD, to whom he served as chaplain.

ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely right. Just like they are suddenly the heroes of Medicare, a program they did everything in their power to kill back in the day.
O/T But a visit to Palin's FB page reveals her trip to Haiti was a disaster in itself. She's asking for money for Haitians, but her followers are unanimously saying that "Charity begins at home."
ReplyDeleteinside the beltway
I am getting happier and happier by the day!
ReplyDeleteTom Coburn HAS no shame. He's a worthless piece of sh*t. He's my senator so I not only have the right to say this, but the obligation to.
ReplyDelete$carah should contact HIM and ask why he is holding up the money for the Haitians.
Anyone that believes this man is a Christian needs to revisit whatever religious teachings they were taught.
I am so pleased with passage of the Zadroga Bill. I worry that the $$ reduction might mean something got gutted.
ReplyDeleteThe holdout posturing of Sen. Tom Coburn and James DeMint should be duly noted by voters. These guys were willing to pander to the wingnuts in their party. Shame on both of them. Some of the first responders and their assistants can't count on being around for the next election.
Now if Wikileaks would have the capability of releasing the air quality reports for those first few days...maybe months after 9/11. I don't know how Christi Todd Whitman sleeps at nite.
ReplyDeleteIt's not surprsing that the douchebag Republicans claim to be the exclusive stewards of justice, security, military readiness, moral rectitude and financial responsibility. What's stunning is that anyone believes what they claim. Especially when invariably their across-the-board failure is the reality. Their opposition to 9/11 Responder's Health Care should haunt their souls for all eternity. (Lucky for them the whole eternal life thang is a scam, too)
ReplyDeleteHallelujah!
ReplyDeleteNo pseudo-patriotic Rethuglican should be allowed to utter the words "nine" and "eleven" together in a sentence, EVER again.
ReplyDeleteThat includes you, Missy Sarah.
Many thanks Jon Stewart.
ReplyDeleteThat photo is so sad. Mychal Judge, chaplain of the FDNY, killed by debris from the collapsing North Tower.
ReplyDeleteGod rest him.
What does Sarah say?
ReplyDeleteI'm amazed she didn't tweet incessantly about the need to help patriotic Americans who helped defend our country.
Anonymous 11:46,
ReplyDeleteThank you for mentioning Fr. Michael, who died giving the last rites and hearing confessions. People like him of all faiths are all over the world, working quietly and sacrificing worldly goods, fame, and fortune, and even their lives to help others, without asking anything in return.
Too bad the noisy, fake spiritual ones who use their God for their own personal ends (greed, hatred, power, etc.) get all the headlines.
