Anchorage Police Department denies Todd Palin involved in prostitution arrest. Really? Update!

So the Palins remain mum on the topic of Shailey Tripp and her connection to Todd, but for some reason the Anchorage Police decide to come out to provide cover instead,  Isn't THAT interesting?

Well let's see what we have here.

Police statement courtesy of NE:

The Anchorage Police Department have issued the following press release:

Shailey Tripp Investigation APD #10-1823

The Anchorage Police Department investigation and arrest of Shailey Tripp has recently been mischaracterized in internet blogs and in a National Enquirer article. Several errors regarding the investigation and arrest were reported in the Enquirer article (printed and internet versions):

None of the physical evidence examined by police showed any connection to Wasilla resident Todd Palin and his name did not appear in any of the records seized by APD.

(Well unless the APD did not bother to open Shailey Tripp's computer files or check the other items they took from her business I have a hard time believing this. But fear not, the National Enquirer has what they need to tie all of this together.)

The investigation of the prostitution operation was initiated by Anchorage Police Department’s Vice Unit responding to internet advertisements, not through information developed from any tips or other persons.

(Yeah well that does not match up with anything that I have heard.)

No rolodex was seized and taken into evidence.

(No "rolodex seized" does not mean that the kind of information that might be found in one was not seized. Words are tricky.)

The National Enquirer has not contacted Anchorage Police Department Public Affairs Unit to fact check its story so their reported “call to Anchorage Police Department” could not have been returned.

(I am in the dark about the accuracy of this one, so I can offer no further enlightenment.)

“Bloggers” have had no access to the evidence seized so their linking of evidence in police custody to any other person is incorrect.

(True, none of the bloggers I know have had access to the evidence seized by the police.  But THAT certainly does not mean that we do not have access to very incriminating evidence.  Here is a hint: SOME of us do.)

And speaking of bloggers I suggest that everybody be very careful as to exactly who they are trusting to provide them with information.  It has come to my attention that there are some wild geese being chased all through the internet concerning this story.

It is understandable that people are anxious for information, but making things up to fill the void does nobody any good in the long run and  besides when the real story comes out it will make them look a little silly.  Not to mention that there are real people whose live have already been negatively impacted by the Palins that do not deserve to be violated again by others desperately digging for something to put on their blog.

BTW the fact that the National Enquirer has not taken down their initial post on this subject should give everybody a pretty good indication that they are standing by their story.  The Palins are going to do everything in their power to kill this story behind the scenes without giving themselves away, which should give all of us a pretty good idea of exactly how much power they still wield in Alaska.

And exactly WHEN was the last time a law enforcement agency in Alaska broke protocol and talked about a rumor circulating around the blogs and tabloids?  Wasn't that about two years ago concerning a possible Federal investigation?

Hmm isn't that a coinky-dink?

More popcorn anybody?

Update: Thomas Van Flein's favorite gossip site also has the story.  Hmm I guess somebody is STILL on the payroll.

Update 2: It looks like the Enquirer has definitely NOT been scared off of the story.

It should hit the stands tomorrow. If you guys don't mind I would really like some PDF's of this since I won't get it up here until NEXT week.

I think I already know what most of it says but I would still like to read it for myself.  Thanks ahead of time.

They worded the following very carefully..."The National Enquirer has not contacted Anchorage Police Department Public Affairs Unit to fact check its story so their reported “call to Anchorage Police Department” could not have been returned."

The NE may have called the Anchorage Police, but not the "Anchorage Police Department of Public Affairs".

Just another incidence of Sarah drawing attention to a story. God damn, she is so stupid as she hasn't learned yet that shutting up is sometimes a good idea. A police department would NEVER on their own make a public statement about bloggers or the National Enquirer. If Sarah bullied someone at the police station or paid them or in any way got them to lie, that means the justice department and FBI should be brought in. Everyone notify them.

So are you saying the police are lying for her?

I still can't get over how stupid, evil and manipulative Sarah Palin is. Sarah you will never be president or hold any office again. You only embarrass yourself by doing stupid things like this. Bring more attention to it you nutjob. Stop lying and threatening people. We have had enough!

By the way, Todd looks sick/gaunt in that photo. He certainly does not look attractive or healthy.

As much as I despise the Palins, I think that those of us without "inside information need to walk away from this story unless and until there is harder evidence, or Mooselini cries "no mas".

They say no physical evidence links Todd to Tripp......... they don't say anything about digital evidence.

I have a real hard time buying that APD would take it upon themselves to make any statement at all unless forced to by say.....Palin or Parnell. Something is very fishy about their statement.

Aso NE added the so called police statement to their post. Would they do that if they had been wrong? Don' think so.

so Gryphen you are saying the police department denies anything about this story. Oh well I guess she wins this one again. She really does have 9 lives

  8. The police department most likely responded due to pressure from the Palins and their attorneys facilitated through the DOL. You know they have people placed in the DOL. They may be threatening to sue the police thinking the information is coming from them. Todd looks like he is either chemically dependent or very ill in that photo.

  10. And while the Palins try to figure a way out of this latest shitstorm, Michelle Bachman has taken over Palin's spot as the tea party spokesperson. Her speech tonight had the same talking points as Sarah's usual stock-in-trade. And she was all done up to look like a MILF.

Well, to those of us with noses, this "official statement" is fishy. The story has been out for a minute, so the police dept took their time in replying. They can reply all they want. The genie isn't going back in the bottle.

@8:55 - You are talking to someone who contributed $100 to Obama 10 minutes after Palin finshed her convention speech. I'm just saying that, unless there is something more than the NE's printed word, I'm not going to pursue this story. I don't live in Alaska, so I don't know the APD's reputation. But, for the time-being, I have to take their word for it.

Are all these Palin scandals smoke and mirrors to deflect attention from Bachmann and make her look like a sane alternative to Palin? I'm not talking about you, Gryph, but the MSM/ Karl Rove/ Murdoch and the Koch brothers.

This statement has more holes than my spaghetti strainer!

APD essentially claims they have no direct connection between evidence seized in this prostitution arrest and Todd Palin.

That is the impression one might get because that is what the statement says? Doesn't it?

    Or does it say that?

According to what NE has posted at the link above the APD statement says:

"The Anchorage Police Department investigation and arrest of Shailey Tripp has recently been mischaracterized in internet blogs and in a National Enquirer article. Several errors regarding the investigation and arrest were reported in the Enquirer article (printed and internet versions): "

Did the APD leave out any other names- say even a name with the same case # as Shailey Tripp? Was the only arrest for "AMC8.65.060: Maintaining Place Of Prostitution"?

Or was there also at least one associated arrest for practicing the art of prostitution on the premises operated by Ms. Tripp?

Continuing on- APD says according to NE link:

".None of the physical evidence examined by police showed any connection to Wasilla resident Todd Palin and his name did not appear in any of the records seized by APD.

    also

"No rolodex was seized and taken into evidence."

So- If there were rolodexs- NO I meant papyrus-NO I meant tablets hand chiseled-

Lets start over. So if there were electronic devices (not rolodexs) and for some reason they were either NOT seized, or seized and then not examined for some reason (search warrant delays -or some OTHER reason), then the statement would be true. And it might be somewhat misleading.

So specifically: cell phones, other hand held devices, other bigger devices like laptops etc- TYPICALLY USED TO PLACE ADVERTISEMENTS OF VARIOUS TYPES ON THE INTERNET (see APD statement for claim of this), would require examining.

    Were any such items seized?

If not- when investigating an internet based crime- PARTICULARLY when other similar prostitution investigations in Alaska have apparently discovered minors involved (Operation Cross Country); then one might ask why these items were not seized (were they even looked for?).

Or were they seized and not examined?. After this long are the seized items forfeited- or returned to the offender?

Forfeited-such as for example happened in this case:

    "3AN-10-02880CR- AMC8.65.020(A): Practicing Prostitution"

    Where this is found:
    "Sentencing Info:
...80 hours CWS; HIV and HEP B&C tests to MOA w/in 60 days; obey area restrictions; forfeit items seized; Comply with all direct court orders and deadlines as set by court. "

    Apparently submit requests for info
to the right person at the APD- only if U R NT A BLGGR.

No need to speculate- just need to point out the questions needing to be asked/being avoided.

APD sayz "Ve haf no leeks". Maybe.
Maybe no leaks are needed- just some answers.

If this is the big scandle why is Travolta the main gossip? Palin's the top corner. Your focus would be on the middle page of the article and it's not about Todd it's about John Travolta, that's the headlines.

I would bet that the Anchorage 'Press Release' is not authentic.
The release lacks the vagueness and sterile nature of a police communique regarding an on going legal matter. I cannot recall any police department releasing details or disputing facts about any investigation to the public except the bare minimum of facts they wanted released and most often were commonly known.

I don't know if the Bloggers mentioned received the "Press Release" from the Anchorage PD, or is the blogosphere just running with a passed along copy. It would seem that if the point of the PD's 'statement' was to put the Blogosphere rumor to rest, then the Bloggers mailbox would certainly be good place to start.
A press release is for the press, and most Bloggers, or at least some of the ones reporting the TP Prostitute Story are members of the press.

Gryphen-Did you get the "Press Release" from Anchorage PD?

Interesting....no word about the Palins filing a lawsuit against the National Enquirer!!! In the past few years that is the first approach they have always taken - and to absolutely no avail when you go back through their records.

I'm changing the subject here to a degree in that I so hope that Gabby comes out AGAIN anti Palin as to her horrid rhetoric. What if Palin's gunsites were placed on her own head? Can you imagine how she would respond to that image?

Palin has been such an evil person to so many (in Alaska) that she needs a dose of her own medicine. Good people have become the brunt of her ways during the past few years and she and Toad are associated w/some very horrid things that have happened in Alaksa.

They project themselves to be such a christian family....evidence clearly indicates (here in Alaska) that they are not the loving family they try to project themselves to be.

It looks like from everything I'm reading that this "press release" only went to the National Enquirer.

Hmmm, who else always identifies "Bloggers" as the source of alleged rumors and heinous lies? This one has Sister Scandal's words all over it. Please- no tweets for over a week, no State of the Facebook Rebuttal to the President? She is in panic mode.

No one said Todd was the pimp running the prostitution ring. If you read this release carefully, it states that there was no physical evidence which linked Todd to this arrest, not that he wasn't a customer.

You don't need a "rolodex" (really, who uses that anymore, anyway?)or a used condom with Todd's DNA to link Todd to Shailey...the hookers are going on the record and GIVING INTERVIEWS, not just Shailey, but Kashawn as well.

My stores will have this tomorrow (Thursday), and I will pick up a copy...it is so worth the $3.41.

Sorry, Palin trolls, nothing you say or do can help Sarah and Toad now. When hookers do interviews this shit will be mainstream...Shailey and Kashawn will be replace Ted Williams (homeless guy with radio voice for those who live in a bubble) as the new media darlings of the moment. Why are the PD even mentioning bloggers? I can't imagine that the PD came up with that nor that they needed to be that specific. Something seems fishy.

Also, unless people are following this story, we would never be able to find out what evidence there is out there. Following the story is important. Even throwing out theories isn't a bad thing. This is just a blog, after all. I do try to keep away from saying things that are mean-spirited but have to admit that comments about the road-kill on her head have brought a smile to my face. Maybe if appearance wasn't part of her gig, I would be more unhappy that people make if part of the commentary.

Also wondering, why was an old photo released with news about her fund-raising event? Was it to pretend that Todd still "part of the picture" when maybe he wasn't there? It's hard to understand reality when stories are manipulated like that. I am grateful for those of you who are able to let us know these things.

Since Ms.Tripp has not had her day in court, anything that they say publicly has the potential to damage the case. Someone from their public affairs department (publicity) may have come forward to issue a statement, but has no direct knowledge beyond reading the statement that was written for them.

It's interesting that the words are so carefully chosen. Who still keeps a rolodex? Maybe it was a little black book or "Dear Diary." Physical evidence is different from interviewing people, including the witness(witnesses) who may have seen Todd enter or leave. And, I always trust Palin news when it is leaked to TMZ. Nuff said.

Where is the lawyer threatening to sue the National Enquirer? When "American By Heart" appeared on the internet before the publication date, there were "Cease and Desist" letters. And, much of the leaked book had to be removed from the internet. Where is the "cease and desist" command to the National Enquirer?

In the end, Sarah will end up playing the victim, not being able to trust even those who were closest and dearest to her. She will become the "single woman" that Steve Forbes was referring to. I'll wait for tomorrow, and the new lawyer for the Palin's comment.

  76. @ couriouser,

Another person commented about this on AlaskaWTF site. He also had a couple of other points and questions that I thought was interesting. One was that the 'press release' was only sent to NE. Why would that be? Aren't press releases generally sent out to all of the media? He also made this point:

    b. Police departments release general facts in their statements, they virtually never dispute the facts stated by media in their 'Press Releases'. The PD's statement of facts is their way of avoiding the back and forth any dispute before them.

Can someone up there call the Anchorage PD and speak with their PR dept to see if this is a real press release from them? If it's not, someone has sent falsified information out to a national media outlet impersonated as the APD.

You Betcha Sarah Palin has her hands and money in this. The police, mayor and Governor are all involved you better believe it.

Sarah Palin calls everyone else out for their misdeeds, but her hands are so clean of anything and everything right Sarah? NOT!

Ms Tripp is in jail, because of Todd. Again the Palins terrorize other people for their crimes. And this seens creepy and perverted.

Levi and many other people do not have rights even if they have the best lawyers up thir in Alaska. Palin has force going on all over.

The police department and all people covering for the Palins regarding this situation need to be brought down.

The NE needs to stay with this story and they need to expose these sick and demented people and their sick acts and violence.

The "rolodex"' comment could be a reference to another high profile prostitution bust that happened years ago in Anchorage.

The madam purportedly kept a rolodex with her customers names and what they were into.

Supposedly there were some high profile names in there.

Prostitution and the abuse of women in Alaska is prevalent, just look at the most recent headline in the ADN regarding Officer Rollins.

Then there was the case of the lawyer who works for the public defender's agency, getting caught with an underage prostitute.

Funny how that guy didn't have to register as a sex offender too.....

I also think this is a fake press release. No real police station sends a release only to the NE. It's ridiculous.
I wonder if the NE validated this. I hope someone is making sure this a real document. If it is, they are crooked as hell and if I was an Alaskan, I'd be furious.

Im still not buying into the whole "there are people hurt by the palins" statement. I think people use that to cover their own misdeeds. That makes more sense to me. Jealousy and a quest for money/temp fame is a huge part of "speaking out" and really is the only prize.

Truth is, there are still many many palin friends in AK. People who avoid the press because it's one sided. Kids of "palin haters" pick up on the hatred and project it as well. There's no reason to single the palins out as being the worst. Not when most teenagers up there behave 100 times more badly than the P kids. (through faebook admission)The only reason these kids cash in on the palins is because they want money to fund their expensive habits. Whats funny is, most of them have been arrested (just last week "the raghead" was busted for a dui) and are doing community service. Jealousy and small town life go hand in hand. and when Sarah became the national spokeperson for AK, im sure that didnt sit well with a lot of people for stupid reasons.

and btw not even the johnstons were justifiably hurt by this family. Victims of a bad relationship between Bristol and Levi? Yes. But thats common. What was Sarah supposed to do once Bristol came to her senses and dumped Levi? continue to invite his family over for tea and crumpets? I'm sure Bristol demanded that her whole family not associate with them, as she demanded Ben not talk to Levi. I have a feeling BRistol wears the pants in the family. Levi found a way to fight back by using politics. That pissed Bristol off more and the war escalated.

What I described best illustrates what probably went down. Bristol showed no signs of stress or unhappiness in early-mid 09. She accompanied her family to Juneau, she attended all the summer Gov events. I think the custody bullshit has always been about Bristol simply coming to her senses and attempting to cut Levi from her life as much as possible. and he made is pretty easy as he pursued fame/fortune off her name.

OK, put on your middle school hats and imagine: VFP(Van Flein Palins) have a chat or email with someone at APD. Took the chat/responses and spun them into a 'statement' and sent that to NE. They will claim NE erred in stating it was a 'press release'. The 'statement' begins with the line citing an APD investigation # and nothing more. Nowhere does it state time/date issue etc. Releases in some jurisdictions are actually numbered for future reference.

I can only imagine..."Did anyone have access to evidence in the matter?" "No." OK then, "anyone" becomes "bloggers" and is now a part of the VFP 'statement', which is then characterized as "adamant" and somehow called a press release.

Those of us who want to believe that Todd has any connection to this without any evidence are no better than the cult that worships Sarah. Her cult idolizes her only because they so desperately want to believe that their idea of Sarah is real, so they project what they want to see onto her. Sounds like some here so desperately want to see Sarah go down, they'll too believe what they want to believe and see what they want to see, even if there is no evidence or if there is evidence to the contrary.

This is not to say that people should stop digging. But, really, we don't have those facts yet.
