Michelle Obama takes the high road when asked about Sarah Palin's antagonistic remarks concerning her anti-obesity program.
First let me just say that I LOVE this picture of our First Lady. I love it!
She is not worried about looking foolish, or whether she is photographed with her hair looking just right. She is simply engaged with the kids and role modeling the very kind of activities that she is encouraging them to participate in.
THAT is how a leader inspires others.
And later when somebody asks her about that perennial party pooper Sarah Palin, this is what she has to say:
"I don't think about her in this initiative, because it is not really about...this initiative is about balance and giving parent the kind of advice and tips that they have been asking for.
"I don't think there is anyone who really questions whether this is a real issue. And when people really understand what "Let's Move" is about...I don't get the sense in anything I do on the ground, when I am in contact with parents and school teachers and educators and pediatricians, they are grateful we are having this conversation."
Asked if she had any message for Palin or other critics, Mrs. Obama said "Let's Move."
Now THAT is a class act, pure and simple.
You know I am just a simple blogger but if I could ask something of the journalists out there I would ask that they NEVER bring the name "Sarah Palin" up to our First Lady ever again. Just don't do it.
Michelle Obama is much too classy of a lady to ever have to respond to a question about that ill-tempered fraud.
I would actually hope that nobody mention her to the President either, but if they MUST ask a Palin question please pose it to Barack and not to Michelle. After all he is used to dealing with national disasters.

Bristol could use some encouragement to "Move" She is a chubby, out of shape woman. For someone who is supposedly running after a two-year old, she is a looking chunky. Maybe her mother does not see her too often?
ReplyDeleteWell written, Gryphen. Especially the last two sentences.
ReplyDeleteHa, ha. That makes TWO Obamas that don't really think about Sarah Palin. Perfect, gracious SMACKDOWN. Michelle Obama is just pure realness. Genuine. Committed. Loving. Amazing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a terrific photo of a great First Lady. Thanks Gryphen!
ReplyDeleteOnce again, Gryphen, a great post.
ReplyDeleteIt's so hard to believe that any thinking(probably a key word)person could criticize any campaign to address the problem of childhood obesity especially since we may be looking at the first generation of children who may not live longer than their parents' generation.
Michelle Obama not only is a wonderful mother to her own children but clearly desires to help all children. (So unlike the other woman in this post.)
I loved the post but your last sentence about why all questions about SP should be directed to the President because "after all he is used to dealing with national disasters" is priceless.
"President Bristol Palin"???

SP has become a caricature of herself. Introducing: The irrelevant Wassilla-billy trailer trash queen of stupid, Sarah Palin!:

President Obama and First Lady Michelle, will always take the "high road"... not only do they have class, they are smart. I wish journalists would not bring up SP with them (it feels slimy to me), but if they didn't interject the questions now and then, there would be a crowd of people wondering why they were avoiding it. Maybe it is a teaching moment, for the people who support SP, but haven't yet lost their minds to her.
ReplyDeleteI'm proud of the First Lady of the US of A for not asking Palin how's the view from the cheap seats or does Bristol's new chin comes with a tire pump?
ReplyDeleteMrs. Obama is a very classy woman.
Michelle Obama rocks! I wish she would come to my kids school and show the girls there how a "real" mom relates to kids. Michelle will go down in history as one of the finest first ladies in America's history.
ReplyDeleteThe first lady says her girls, Sasha, 9, and Malia, 12, have certain restrictions that other children don't have because of Secret Service security issues. But she also said during an interview on NBC's "Today Show" on Wednesday that she's "not a big fan of young kids having Facebook."
ReplyDeleteEven if the girls weren't living in the White House, Mrs. Obama says Facebook is "not something they need." Maybe when they get older, she added.

Michelle is not a rill Merican... she does not wear a flag pin.
ReplyDeleteand she can't shoot moose.
and she is not a hard ass worker like Pigstool.
So just what does the SP Lemmings Society want? Americans who are nothing except FAT, STUPID, and POOR?!?!?
ReplyDeleteAnother worthwhile post! Thank you!
OT: There's no Palin story on cover of new Enquirer -- have they dropped the story?
ReplyDeleteLOL. Ricky goes after Sarah. Slime to grifter, I'm calling you out!

ReplyDeleteMatthews replied, “she talks like a cuckoo clock. In fact, I think when she gets that name, Sarah Palin, patented that’s what she should sell, cuckoo clocks. Cuckoo clocks with her coming out every hour.”

No, really, they are real, they really are real and scary and stuff and we don't tell the police because they're just too many of them and we don't want to inspire other threats and we don't want the police to work too hard so we just buck up and keep a stiff upper lip and hope it all goes away since we are so big and important and well, special. And besides, you peons just don't know what it's like to have people like us in high places get threats, it's just well, ReAL.

Bristol Palin: Kathy Griffin ‘has a weird hate for our family’
ReplyDeleteRead more: http://dailycaller.com/2011/02/09/bristol-palin-kathy-griffin-has-a-weird-hate-for-our-family/#ixzz1DTUh0G9i
Bristol told E! Online Tuesday that Griffin hasn’t gotten to her.
“It didn’t [hurt my feelings] because it was coming from Kathy Griffin of all people, and I think it just shows her immaturity,” Palin said. “I don’t think that stuff’s funny at all. Just very strange.”
Bristol addressed that Griffin has repeatedly poked fun at the family, and she finds this odd.
“She has a weird hate for our family, just like her coming to Alaska and knocking on our front door. And it’s weird, also, that she would pick on my weight. She’s had botched liposuction procedures and stuff like that, so … It’s just weird that she would pick on something like that for another woman … I think she would just not be an enjoyable individual to be around at all.”
In the unlikely event that Griffin were to make an apology, Bristol would accept it.
“She’s never going to, but yes, I would accept it,” Bristol said.

You might want to put your irony meters away for this one. After weeks of arguing that extreme rhetoric has nothing to do with potential violence against prominent political leaders, Sarah Palin has canceled an appearance at an event because of ... safety concerns due to extreme rhetoric.
ReplyDeletePalin Bails Due to Extreme Rhetoric
...So "personal attacks" -- some people call that criticism -- give rise to safety concerns for Palin ... but not for anyone else who has been on the receiving end of her personal attacks. Now that you understand how this all works, you may return to your previously scheduled activities.

Palin runs.....from the press.
ReplyDelete“Courrier International, a weekly digest of world news published in France, features an illustrated cover of Sarah Palin. The illustration gives her qualities you rarely see in photos or video, which helps it stand out. This is not the super-duper, happy Sarah we’re used to seeing. The cover lines are simple, and will draw a reaction from just about anyone – whether it’s inspiring, frightening or comical depends on your own worldview.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.coverssell.com/?p=3093
Looking at Sarah Palin, it is hard to imagine a more terrifying political human. Her staggering simplery along with gasping vapidity is far too close to the nuclear codes for our liking. You’d be forgiven for thinking that things could only get worse if Glen Beck announced his intention to run for office.
ReplyDeleteUntil that crushingly inevitable day occurs, we can look forward to another horror.
That’s right citizens of this failing planet! Bristol Palin fully intends to follow in her mother’s waddling political footsteps. This is the signal we’ve all been waiting for. The end is nigh. Kill yourselves now.
Bristol has announced, not in specific terms, that she’s prepared to destroy the Earth in the future after she said she would “probably” run for office one day, “but that would be further down the road.” A road littered with piles of cadavers and craters.
She says:
“If I saw something that needed to be changed, then I would step up to the plate and do something about it”
Already showing signs of being a charismatic leader, Bristol admitted in an interview that she has no friends in Arizona, and that she spends a lot of time rattling around her house talking to herself while mopping up the puke and piss of 2-year-old Tripp.
We mock, but we could all be calling Tripp the ‘Grand Poobah’ or something when he inherits the world from his batshit mental family.

Palin claims to be a runner, yet I could not imagine her running like our First Lady, not caring how she looks, or if her hair is out of place. Has anyone actually seen Palin run, since she claims she HAS to run daily? This is another lie told by the Alaskan Liar in Chief.
ReplyDeleteI thought Mrs. Palin was so athletic, why isn't she at the White House, running sprints instead of tearing her down?
ReplyDeleteMichelle Obama: Hi Sarah, this is FLOTUS, you may want to tell Bristol to have a mammogram done on her chin once a year.
ReplyDeleteWould like to see the Alaskan momma hog and her piglet in tights running a 100 yard dash. They could be motivated by a $20 bill at the finish line.
ReplyDeleteMore Than "Mom-in-Chief"
ReplyDeleteIt took a year before she made a big policy push, not in helping military families as she planned during the campaign but, instead, in improving childhood health. It may seem like a "safe" area for first ladies to delve into, but the way Obama tackled the problem has had a real impact.
Those who underestimate the effect of the Childhood Nutrition Act -- the first major accomplishment of the "Let's Move" campaign -- underestimate Obama. Martin compared her unfavorably to Laura Bush (though she did say she believes Obama will be ready to put up a fight when necessary). What she misses is that Michelle Obama is really Hillary Clinton cloaked as Laura Bush. Pushing for the Childhood Nutrition Act was not just about what schools serve to children. Improving access to healthful food is an important social-justice issue and one of the best ways to help low-income children. The bill, which passed in December, would serve more and better food through several different school programs and make it easier for poor families to sign up for free lunches. The school-lunch program was set up to feed children who might not otherwise get a healthy meal during the day, and this bill refocused school food on that mission.
The bill will also have a broader impact on food production outside of schools. The U.S. Department of Agriculture, which runs the school-lunch program, is such a big customer for American food companies that its demands leach over into the products sold to every consumer: If the USDA demands less salt in its food and high-quality chicken nuggets, then there's a good chance companies will make food with less salt and of higher quality for everyone.
It's also higher-profile than the campaign of her immediate predecessor. Obama didn't just support an existing bill; she recruited businesses and high-profile chefs to sign on. She publicly urged Congress to pass it. Obama doesn't just promote exercise and healthy living; she took on big food manufacturers by criticizing high-sugar foods heavily marketed to children -- she criticized marketing methods at a Grocery Manufacturers Association forum. "It's a tough campaign because most of us don't like to be told what to eat," says Betty Boyd Caroli, author of First Ladies: Martha Washington to Michelle Obama.. "It's probably one of the toughest projects a first lady could take on."
"Let's Move," then, is standard first-lady fare, but Obama got it done.

Does Michelle have a magic mirror or is it because some of her close friends like Oprah Winfrey make her look thin.
ReplyDeleteI think she is the last one ever to talk about peoples diet and fitness.
She is someone needing to eat my veggie and push away the mash potatoes.
Sarah Palin is such a retard. I always expect
ReplyDeleteto see her flicking boogers or throwing her
feces. Whatever it takes to get attention.
Thank you for a great photo: I agree. I love it. Mrs. Obama is inspiring in many many ways. Truly a great first lady.
ReplyDeleteAnon 6:25AM - very funny!!

So what's this about Bristol being
ReplyDelete'invited' by Michele to participate in a 'youth against teens having babies' panel. Saw it on the Nat. Enq. site? Anybody?

Wow--Michelle's comments were fabulous. She says to Sarah Palin, "Let's Move."
ReplyDeleteI'd say Sarah just got pwned. Big time.
Anon 7:25
ReplyDeleteOh my. Now Sarah you really have to get your medication changed. That hate and JEALOUSY will literally eat you alive if you let it. Just because the First Lady makes you look like a cheap hill-jack who is nothing but womb, tackiness and overmedication doesn't mean you have to be a hater.
And yes, Mrs. Obama is better educated, classier, a better mother and wife, and infinitely just an all around better human than you—but hey, Todd sleeps with prostitutes. See, you win.
I understand Mrs. Obama's message just fine. What the heck was Sarah talking about?
ReplyDeleteWhen I can step out my door about the time school lets out and see jr. high students who probably weigh in at 200 lbs., it sends a loud confirmation that Michelle Obama's program is very needed and very relevant. She-who-must-not-be-named is so very wrong and needs to be silenced.
ReplyDeleteGee, I wonder why Mrs. Obama didn't wrap herself in the flag in that picture? Oh yeah, because she's not a big fat FAKER, like Scarah.
ReplyDeleteI love having a classy POTUS and FLOTUS. Look and learn, people, look and learn.
Mrs. Obama will definitely go down in history as one of the most down to earth, "real" First Ladies. She is an original, and I admire her more than I can say.
ReplyDeleteTo Anon at 7:25:
ReplyDeleteMrs. Obama is healthy and has an athletic build. Thank goodness she is not a stick figure. Too bad you have to make such an ignorant remark about someone who is trying to get a healthy message out to the youth of our nation. I feel badly for your small minded attitude.
MICHELLE OBAMA INTERVIEW ON NBC
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtWHy5r-ues&feature=player_embedded
Since her husband took office two years ago, first lady Michelle Obama has lived in the proverbial fishbowl, with nearly everything she does, from her campaign against childhood obesity to her upper-arm workout routine, open to public scrutiny.
ReplyDeleteWhile breaking bread with East Wing reporters at the White House on Tuesday, however, Obama made it clear there are certain topics that are strictly personal and definitely off limits.

Well perhaps you could first show us how to do what you suggest?
This country is so fortunate to have Mr. & Mrs. Obama as President and FLOTUS. They are a constant source of inspiration to me with their poise, grace, intelligence, patience and tender love for each other and their family.
I love this picture of Mrs. Obama: running, looking determined yet carefree and at the same time encouraging the other runner to do his best.
That is part of what leadership is all about - helping others bring out the best in themselves.
Palins issue is because Michelle Obama is everything she is not...
ReplyDelete-gracious and thoughtful
-intelligent and educated
-happily married
-has polite well behaved children
-and most importantly...she lives in the White House!
Suck it Sarah!
I wonder if First Lady Michelle would ever consider running for President?
ReplyDeleteEight years of President Obama, followed by eight years of President Obama!

What a stupid remark. The First lady has never claimed to be "thin", and "thin" does not equal fit! Michelle Obama is obviously fit and healthy. And by the way, she has never claimed that it is wrong for people to ever eat junk food.
She is certainly more attractive than scrawny hate-faced Palin with her scraggly unwashed hair/wigs.
Michelle Obama uses her popularity wisely

I think that the education department needs to start putting money back into physical education classes. Those were some of the first to get cut and a lot of inner city kids *and a lot of rural ones too* don't get any exercise except what they get at school.
