Below is an example of an artist's vision of Jesus, reinterpreted using the image of the least Christ-like person on the planet. (More details concerning this exhibition can be found here.)
I am not sure WHO is supposed to respond to this particular piece of art (Though admittedly the Palin-bots DO seem to often visualize Sister Sarah as being crucified by the media and her critics.) however to my mind it is in extremely poor taste.
It IS however yet another indication of how fully the Grizzled Mama has been absorbed into our popular culture. She is the butt of jokes, the object of parody, and now the subject of blasphemous art.
One has to wonder if Sarah Palin views where she is today in the eyes of this country, and the world at large, as a success. In other words, has Palin's goal all along simply to be noticed?
(BTW I looked back on today's posts and recognized an odd religious theme running through all of them. I would like you all to know, that as far as I am aware, that is purely coincidental. At least I think it is.)
yuck!
ReplyDeleteDid she really intend to be the butt of jokes? I don't think so. Yet, she has no one to blame but herself.
ReplyDeleteDouble yuck!
ReplyDeleteShe's the furthest thing from 'christlike'!
ReplyDeleteAnything that allows her continued portrayal of the Eternal Victim is unfortunate.
ReplyDeleteI have an idea. Why don't we elect Paylin as Complainer in Chief? I'm sure she would win by a landslide, her ego would finally be gratified that she beat Obama, she could continue with what she's really good at (bitching and moaning), and the country would be safe from having her anywhere near the WH. All in favor say "Aye"!
there was another version of herself nailed to the cross when she identified w/Queen Esther.
ReplyDeleteI suspect she, along with her bots, promoted these images so she can claim victimization once again.
I kinda doubt that this painting is intended as an homage to Governor Quitter. More likely it's taking a shot at those people who see her as a divine martyr.
ReplyDeleteSarah Palin= Anti Christ
ReplyDeleteI think you are on to something about her ultimate desire was to "be noticed" and is another example of her extreme narcissism. She is a sick woman with a sick agenda.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone is responsible for crucifying Sarah, it is Sarah herself.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gryphen for stating that it's in poor taste. It certainly is. On this occasion, I can understand why Sarah Palin would want her name and image copyrighted to protect herself. I'd side with her on this one.
ReplyDeleteThis doesn't encourage dialogue; it just offends and has no value.
In the words of Holden Caulfield: "Jesus H. Christ"
ReplyDeleteAt least now she is justified in blaming the stupidity of others for her public image. That is not art, it is hate. Lock em up.
ReplyDeleteFame is a fickle creature. Those who go up, must eventually come down.
ReplyDeleteOnce you lost your privacy for the strange thing that is celebrity, you can't get it back.
I anyone disturbed that the hand nailing Sarah to the cross in that picture appears to be African American?
ReplyDeleteI agree it is very disturbing. But that is what artists often do. Any emotional response is preferred to no emotional response.
I think Sarah is not only a narcissist but a bit of a masochist. Why continue to participate in things that obviously bother you so much. If she hates the media so much, why not go into seclusion rather than get in everyone's face?
I do think the artist hit Sarah's "victim card" right on the head, as it were.
I remember during the convention they
ReplyDeletewere interviewing some old goon, and he
was grinning like a fool & said 'we call her
Saint Sarah!' and he really meant it. What
do these people see that no one else does?
I see a foul-mouthed, hypocritical, bigoted
old tart/MILF-wannabe. What saintly
qualities do they see? Just the ones they
assign her?
LOL last paragraph, Gryph. ;-)
ReplyDeleteDoesn't even deserve to be called art.
Think about it. Sarah could easily fade away from the spotlight and most wouldnt notice. Shed still make late night jokes as shes easy. the only people whod "miss her" are the bots and the haters, which is a very small group.
ReplyDeleteTheres a very specific reason she's still going and it has nothing to do with Sarah. She hates that people hold stupid biases and wrongly attack her family but the goal is to bring to light the malpractices of govt business in DC. The country is finally rising up to fight politicians and Sarah is just one small part of that. I hate that tge race card gets wrongly played as an excuse to defend Obama but thats how people roll. They take the easy way instead of opening their eyes to facts. They criticize the other side for the same things their side is guilty of.
Govt officials have no clothes.
No sightings of Bristol or the rest of the family recently. Could Scarah be preparing for another "miracle grandchild birth"??
ReplyDeleteNot enough gum visible in the mouth.
ReplyDeleteSarah would have posed for the this picture... if artist agreed to pay her.
ReplyDeleteSarah is a two bit whore, willing to do anything for money.. except give Todd a massage with happy ending.
She even allowed Runner's World to take a few camel toe shots for her fans.
Sarah is a money ho.
Blasphemous Art? Isn't that the victim meme Stapleton and Palin trucked out as an iconic representation of a loving mother of a special needs child?
ReplyDeleteThe ever suffering self-titled servant's heart climbs up on the cross every day about all of em, any of em critiques of day. Her stigmata wounds are twisted ruins of scar tissue.
Now Sarah gets an idea of what Art is, innocuous pieces disturb the head of the philistine family enough - she's probably rendered mute on this. If it were possible to hurt her feelings or strike her dumb.
Anon @ 11:38 - lock em up, it's hate, not art?
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome to despise this piece, you are welcome to criticise the artist, you are even welcome to not call it art, but to call for the creatives imprisonment?
LOL, who are you? The next GOP's director of The National Endowment for the Arts? Oh forget it, Arts aren't and wouldn't be supported by the likes of you.
Worth pointing out that sarah looks very HAPPY in the painting. I have never seen her look so joyful.
ReplyDeletePlease, don't encourage her in her victimhood! I doubt she sees this as satire.

Very true. But Sarah sold her privacy for celebrity.
I agree with 10:57 am. if that artist was a fan of the quitter I would bet they would have painted her with a different look on her face. you can almost picture a word bubble coming from her mouth "YEAH see I am a victim! Crucified just like Jesus!"
ReplyDeleteThere are a number of ways to interpret that painting. The look on Sarah's face is horror, and we usually don't see her confronted with the serious consequences of anything that she does (did).
ReplyDeleteOne way to look at the picture is that Sarah has played the victim one time too many, and now she is faced with being the Ultimate Victim, the Religious Martyr.
Sarah is not the holy kind of being willing to die for the sins of others. But, she has traded on her religious and family views, creating a false picture, and this is the consequence.
Some consider Christ a political martyr, a victim of the conflict at the time between the Romans and the Jews in a power struggle in Jerusalem. If that is the metaphor, then Sarah is a political victim, chosen by Rupert Murdoch (and his cronies) to promote their message on Fox, in speeches and books. Now, Sarah has turned into a liability (cross hairs, blood libel) and she is going to be sacrificed.
I read the look of horror on Sarah's face as the brief moment that she actually confronts what she has caused, preaching hate while Christ preached peace and love. Sarah is short on self awareness, and maybe it takes an overly dramatic picture like this to force her to confront all of the damage that she has caused. No one is nailing Sarah to the cross, in the religious sense of Christ sacrificing himself for Mankind. Gryphen had another post where someone else was Nailin' Palin, in a completely different way. Take it any way that you want.
Yuck is right! What part of blasphemy don't those people get? That is the most revolting image, and it gives me the creeps.
ReplyDelete(Sarah probably loves it...being a victim and all.)
Come on, people. You know she likes playing the victim/martyr.
ReplyDeleteShe thoroughly enjoys it.
It looks to me like someone is putting a stake in her heart. Much more appropriate for Palin as she sucks the life out of everyone in her orbit.
ReplyDelete"In other words, has Palin's goal all along simply to be noticed?"
ReplyDeleteYep. She's living a narcissist's wettest dream.
I think the hands of the nailer are black skinned. However, the person is right handed, so it isn't Obama.
ReplyDeleteIt is in poor taste and is offensive to Christians. I would no trivialize the Crucifixion any more than I would create provocative and offensive images of the Prophet Muhammed.
ReplyDeleteThough, I'm sure Palinbots would have no compunctions concerning the latter.
This, however, is in the same vein--and may be by the same artist--but, does not rise to level of religious baiting.

Sarah Palin: 'Following the Arizona shootings, I said that I was the victim in all of this. But, this isn't what I had in mind."
ReplyDeletethe idiot writes letters to herself from God and refers to herself as Queen Esther.....she invited this work.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I would point out that it's a copy of a painting from the 1600's called Teresa - this is a Passion scene, so it’s supposed to evoke ideas about the Crucifixion; it’s about martyrdom, about the casual cruelty of people to their fellow man. Why the clownish face? Because the world sees her as a clownish person. The painting’s tone is anguished. You need to transcend your partisan boundaries to actually appreciate it, because this is a anti-anti-Palin painting.
Anon@2:00pm, Really? Did you find it in poor taste when Sarah sent out a birth message re. Trig, signed "Your Heavenly Father"?? Did you, in your sensitivity, communicate that to her?
ReplyDeleteDid you find it in poor taste when Meghan McCain said that her family and Sarah would be "nothing less than crucified" by the movie of the book, Game Change? NOTHING LESS THAN CRUCIFIED??
I found that last comment in poor taste, and you know what? I posted a polite message conveying that opinion in her comment thread, and—guess what?— my comment was CENSORED.
No one is allowed to take offense at those CLAIMING TO BE CRUCIFIED… get it? They have a monopolization on victimhood, and they like it that way.
Which is exactly what this mordent piece of art speaks to… I think it is a very good work.
And Sarah's expression here is not "horror". This expression is copied from her "goofy" picture that Gryphen and others have used many a time:
http://tinyurl.com/3nt6zdw
She's like: "Yee haw!" "Drill, baby, drill!"…
Sarah LOVES the victimhood and the attention. You know she does! This artist has her number!!!
anon @ 1:05 pm sez:
ReplyDelete"The look on Sarah's face is horror,"
well I see the point that you are making in your post, however the look on the quitters face is not one of horror. it appears that the artist used this commonly used picture to paint her likeness:

It's art. It seeks an affective response.
You might think it is good art or bad art. You might like it or hate it. But when you start talking about art being in bad taste....
I kind of expect you to want to defund the NEA next.
She looks like she is having an orgasm.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 3:37, bingo!
ReplyDeleteI did not want to say it because I knew I would get, pardon the pun, crucified. But yes, that is exactly what I thought as well.
First of all, crucifiction was a common form of death penalty. Christ wasn't the only one ever crucified (if there was a christ and he was crucified). So, perhaps the artist just wants to make Sarah shut up finally for good.
ReplyDeleteI DO NOT SEE HORRor on her face. She more looks like she is having a super dooper time on a thrill ride or something. Looks like she just faked everybody out with a pregnancy and birth hoax and jsut got nominated for VP.
The hand holding the hammer is definetely dark. Not sure what the artist was saying to us with that.
She looks like she is having an orgasm.

Gryf, right at this moment I am not totally sure that you are a reliable arbiter of good taste. You know what I am talking about. Something about your whole tone on the Hustler post turned my stomach. I felt that you were not an ally of women in your headline and comments. I don't think I am prudish, either. I find the Hustler Palin take-offs quite funny.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's intended as a negative portrayal of SP at all, because her followers see her as a martyr and have portrayed her carrying the cross, in another likeness I've seen.
ReplyDeleteBut I'll also go one step in another direction. There was a scene from a Xena episode very similar to this and I'll bet that's where someone got the idea for the pose. This is not a stretch, because SP has been tied to Xena mythology before, and in fact as I link below, there were campaign buttons with her likeness over Xena:

and this:

That's our Sarah, while laying on a cross, Sarah wears her stuffed bra from the Belmont horse track.
ReplyDeleteFor Sarah and Bristol, getting physically nailed to anything before getting nailed is considered foreplay for them.

Orgasmic, even? I had the thought that it might make a great advertisement for an S&M flick.
I don't think that the mythical Jesus was supposed to be retarded, right?
ReplyDeleteI can't believe people are offended by this. really? is the crucifiction so personal? dozens of gods "died" in the same way and they all were also resurrected 3 days later. it's the story of the sun. don't take it so personal.
ReplyDeleteThe photo of SP in this particular piece of art obviously was done to purposefully make fun of her and her contant persecution complex.
ReplyDeleteAlternative Title: Nailin' Palin?
ReplyDeleteI agree the art is artless and offensive.
ReplyDeleteAs dogmatic a Christian as I am it is still offensive to see stereotypical images of Christ misused (as would be, and is burning a holy book of another's faith by a PR whoreguy.)
At the same time Sarah has brought it upon herself by being a professional martyr.
How's that Blood Libel thingie going for yuh Sarah?
Choose love, not hate said...
ReplyDeleteThe country is finally rising up to fight politicians and Sarah is just one small part of that.
12:18 PM
But Sarah is a politician, she was in two elected offices and served on political boards, she is a political spokes person, and wanna bee POTUS.
Maybe that's why she is so wired and twitchy all the time, she hates herself almost as much as she loves her narcissistic self.
