Swimming against the tide Lawrence O'Donnell is absolutely certain that Sarah Palin will NOT run for President.

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

I have to admit he makes some very pertinent points.

And the statements from Fox News, also make it seem that she has told them that she is not running:
Fox News is not taking contributor Sarah Palin off its payroll despite moves that suggest she may be gearing up for a presidential run.

"We are not changing Sarah Palin's status," Bill Shine, Executive Vice President of programming for Fox News Channel, told CBS News in a statement. Palin earns $1 million per year as a commentator on Fox News.

Of course she is a well known liar.  But would she actually DARE lie to Fox News?  Yeah, probably.

Now I don't like to disagree with Lawrence O'Donnell, because is far more experienced and connected to reliable sources than I am, but I have to say I DO believe that she is, at the very least, willing to start a very temporary campaign.

Like O'Donnell, I also do not think she will run for President, nor do I think she will push her candidacy far enough to risk being ridiculed for a poor showing in a GOP debate, but I do think she will start a faux candidacy in order to not disappoint her supporters, and to guarantee that she can continue to grift from them for many more years into the future.

So yes she will launch a "campaign." But if you blink you just might miss it, because I can guarantee the Quitter Queen, will live up to that nickname just as soon as she is sure she has been in the primary long enough to hook the most gullible members of the Republican party. As soon as she is convinced these poor pathetic paint eaters will continue to send her money as she pretends to consider a run in 2016, she will come up with some trumped up family crisis and quit.

Because you see she has no desire to EVER work again, and being the President of the United States is very, very hard work. How anybody could possibly imagine that she would seriously consider  taking that job is beyond me.

I have written for years on here that she is not really running. She is a fake runner--always has been. She is not "in it to win it." Glad to see that LOD & I read things the same way.

She will milk it for as long as she can. I have refused to watch or listen to her for quite some time but this time I endured the embedded clip. Is it just me, or has she has gotten worse? She looks and sounds like a marionette in the clip of her talking to Greta. Her phoniness slaps you in the face. What a goofball.

Gryphen... I plan on selling boxes of paint chips to the movie goers when they see "Undefudiated"

Hoping to sell chips to fans at her bus stops... will tell em it is guaranteed to put lead in their pencil..

I am thinking that if she did say to Ailes that she isn't running, he probably made her sign something. And maybe if she goes ahead and runs anyway (seriously I mean), it may be a breach of the agreement and there will be enforceable penalties. Whatever else he is, he ain't stupid. But, what do I know .....

Call me a fathead...but I feel strongly this scenario is a very distinct possibility:

She is doing her "look at meeee, my bus has teh constitooshunz!" tour of moneyed cities this weekend/memorial day. I gurandamntee you they'll be SarahPAC drones with donation forms at every stop.

She'll coast through the "tour" finish line hours before the deadline to release the emails comes. IF the deadline passes and the emails are not released (which you will know happened because you will have heard my head exploding) she will go into major candidate overdrive. As SOON as the statute passes in early July and Palin knows the secrets within those emails will be KEPT secret...she'll announce her candidacy.

Can't you see it now- a July 4th announcement with red, white, blue bunting draped over a podium and flags waving in the summer breeze? Her knuckledraggers will EAT that mess UP. She'll get a HUGE push of donations- definitely in the millions.

She'll "run" in earnest...right up until Joe McGinnis' book is released. She will lay low for a day or two while her people comb through the book, making sure there's nothing in it that will make her base turn away from her.

If the book contains something she simply cannot fight (such as someone going on the record about her tube tying procedure- please, God) then she will, as you suggested, drop out due to some "family issue". If there's nothing in the book to prevent her from running, she will limp on in her "candidacy" and withdraw only when it's time to debate.

Just my two cents, of course!

Had I not read the Dunn and Bailey books, I would agree with you Gryphen, that Sarah would fake a run for a few months, then quit halfway through.

But, Sarah is not interested one bit in actually starting a real campaign, much less govern. She is physically and mentally uncapable of handling the stress of her own family, for Gods sake. Sarahs psyche is so fragile and damaged , she really should be under intensive psychiatric care if she isn't already. Bailey describes Sarahs mood swings, her lying, and vindictiveness quite graphically, to the point where Todd would call ahead to the campaign office and alert them to her demeanor each day.

I grew up with a mother who was manic depressive and bipolar, and I know crazy when I see it, and Sarah is crazy, besides just being outright mean and nasty.

Fox News knows that if they took Sarah off their payroll, they would all be subjected to death threats.

Sarah is pimping out the bus and dumb documentary to grift more money. Is anyone surprised?

Lawrence is amazing. His common sense is one for the ages. It seems the popular press has gone to the dogs.
It's almost like no one can reason anymore.

I agree with you: continue to tease, milk some more money, re-inflate her kingmaker pretensions.

But only controlled exposure, controlled risk, fake everything with no challenges as to fact or authenticity.

Kind of an extension of herself: everything tightened, plumped, filled, tanned, teased, extended, etc.

Sarah Palin is nothing more than a coin-operated blow up candidate these days, with the same appeal. All your fantasies for a price tag, as long as you're too stupid, drunk, or twisted to miss the real thing.

Unbelievable. Ordered up a vanity movie so now she doesn't even have to go to the trouble to show up. Soon she'll just fax a menu with the Palin kids & grandkids listed by fee, or hell, she could build her business model on volume instead of rate and just sell DVD appearances by any of 'em, all of 'em.

It's a wonderful world for grifters.

Gryphen, I'd like to add two points.

    1. Someone would have to guarantee her $2 million before she'll give up Fox's $1 million.

    2. The fantasy machine that swirls around her can easily put forth a panty-sniffing robot to generate a "write-in" campaign on her behalf. She can continue to say she's not running, while her soul lusts for a victory bigger than Lisa Murkowski's. And she'll stay in the public eye, and get richer and richer.

  15. She also said she had a fire in her belly while running for Gov.
    That lasted 2 years.

I think she will get in the race, late, as a third party candidate and split the republican ticket.
    Bye bye sarah.

  16. I wonder how often one of her inner circle of sycophants has to remind her that she is the one who insists the title doesn't matter. Between her ambition, competitiveness, and hatred of Obama, this has to make her crazy(er). She wants to be head cheese so bad she can taste it, but she doesn't want the job that goes with it. She LIKES money and fancy houses and jetting around the country. I'm sure one of the Washington insiders on her team has to remind her repeatedly that the power of the presidency comes with tons of work, tons of restrictions on her personal time and movements (remember that she didn't like having a security detail follow her around in Alaska), and a relatively small paycheck. Her casual office hours as governor wouldn't cut it in the White House. I'll bet her people take turns reminding her of this stuff, because every day she gets herself worked up about how she would be a great president and she's better than Obama.

    ReplyDelete
  17. jkarov4:21 AM

Agreed in spades Gryphen. I don't think anyone can imagine how much WORK it takes to be President.

We all remember that Queen Pay-lin got the answer wrong to the question from a 3rd grader about what the VP does. Her reply was 100% incorrect, as the VP does NOT work with Senators to make laws.

I bet Caribou Barbie thinks being President of the USA is like being Queen of England. The Queen just has to go to dinners, open hospitals, have diplomats over for dinner, and pick up a sword to give Knighthoods to famous folks.

You're probably right about the ultimate plan, that she might run for a while, but "something" will happen with the grifter family to cause her to drop out, and she can be rich, famous, victim, and poor me all at once in the spotlight yet again.

I think FOX has the proof on babygate. And babygate proof means Sarah Palin can not run. Palin is worth a ton of money for FOX through this campaign season. She will parrot any outrageous venom FOX is peddling.

    ReplyDelete
  19. 8tseven4:26 AM

I totally agree with you. I can see that fire in her belly turning to ashes very quickly before any debates.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Anonymous4:31 AM

Certainly, for her to breeze in after 2 years being out of politics while most of the others have been involved in, focused on, and lived their politics seems to be a big strike against Sarah. She would love to be president, which is why she put wheels in motion (commissioned a movie, planned a bus tour, bought a "centrally located, aka, middle of the desert" house that she can use as headquarters and write some of it off as a tax-deduction, visited Israel and areas hit by natural disasters) just in case God opens the door (what exactly does that mean, isn't is open to all natural-born US citizens?). So now she figures she might as well show the movie and take the tour, just to keep her name in the news for future endeavors. And, in all honesty, I am thankful for FOX news giving us the sign that she doesn't have plans to announce a run any time soon. I'm not sure Sarah is happy about that bit of transparency, we know how she feels about having her secrets.

My bet is that Romney actually wins the GOP nod, maybe with Herman Cain as VP, esp since Sarah has already given Cain glowing reviews. That seems to be the way the field is starting to shape up. Of course, there are a lot of debates and rallies to be had first but Mitt has taken the lead, has a good head-start and is forcing the others to make their decisions before it's too late to compete.

Reading the article over at Rolling Stone on Ailes helps to better understand what is really going on with this charade. Paylin and Ailes were meant for each other and you can see his signature written all over her face. There is a new kind of category for criminal with these two at play and hopefully the American public won't let this continue much longer. Keeping the fingers crossed.

  22. Starting and running are very different things. The NYT should be ashamed for even thinking about running this story. What were they thinking?

My thinking is: who cares? As long as she stays on Fox, *I* don't have to listen to her. And frankly, it's all about me. :-) Who does that remind you of?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Pennyspruce(archenemy)4:40 AM

She won't "run". She will continue doing the job that she was paid to do. She was hired to be a shit starter. To keep the pot boiling. To be everything anti Obama. She will continue to lie to, and rile up a certain element of our society while living in million dollar plus mansions, flying around in corporate jets, and living like a queen.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I know she doesn't like to work but her mental illness requires that she run.

If one thinks she is just a cunning grifter, then she won't run. But I believe she is mentally ill and has no choice. Her incompetence and the illness itself will stop her, but she has to get vengence.

  25. Anonymous4:56 AM

Sarah has created an image about her that is so inaccurate that she wouldn't be able to stand up to any scrutiny. Every question would be a gotcha question, like:

"In the last year, what church did you attend the weeks you were in Alaska and what are some of favorites that you visited on the road, esp when you were in Arizona?" (Personally, I wish that WASN'T a question that candidates have to answer but it still seems an important part of the resume.)

"In the last couple years, what are ALL the types of schools your family has used, (traditional public, charter, private and home), which have they used the most and what is the rational?" (I would actually like to hear President Obama's rational for using private over public schools.)

If she enters the race, her accusations to the media won't work. They'll be ready for her, this time.

    Hardly swimming against the tide!

Once the elections are under way Palin will be reduced to a has-been basic cable personality. She's worried about being canned at Pox.

PS Bachmann rushed out an announcement about an announcement soon in Iowa.

  27. Anonymous5:03 AM

Yes, she would lie right to Roger Ailes face if it meant money in her pocket.

She is a liar, AND crazy. The whole package, so we will see her run for POTUS every four years.

But you are right about WORK; she does not want the job, but the title "Presidential Candidate".

    ReplyDelete
  28. O'Donnell and yourself may be correct. But what if Palin is as psychotic as some of her followers, and really does think she has a divine calling? Through a series of unfortunate events, one can imagine her getting the nomination, and having the election thrown her way. This would be a low-probability but high-impact outcome.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Anonymous5:14 AM

This article as a whole has the situation in hand and no one need read any more or listen to any more comments. O'Donnell's delivery of his erudite analysis was masterful and IM's response right on.

We will be subjected to Palin's publicity and teasing re candidacy for as long as she is able to drag it out; once that stops, her she is devalued as news. Yes, I read the NYT's "hint" article and wondered why they bothered printing essentially nothing. Fond as I am of NYT, their buying into the speculation on the front page only thrills Palin and charges her batteries to keep chasing the "lamestream" media. Printing rank speculation as news keeps Palin's public fire going.

Putting out that fire is being nicely done by blogs such as this one. Thanks.

Love Lawrence O'Donnell! His evisceration of that article and Palin in general was fantastic! How pathetic that the NYT would stoop to a quote from some unheard-of Republican from some backwoods county of Iowa. And yes, Sarah Palin is all about the grifting, and far too cowardly to run for president. You're a coward, Sarah. Like the image from your film, not a mama grizzly, but a gutted zebra.

Why Republicans can't find a decent presidential candidate
The party's ideology is out of whack and nobody wants to lose to Barack Obama. Meanwhile, time is running out

So who's left to jump into this shallow tank by midsummer, or at the outer edge of practicality by mid-September?

Her sell-by date may be passing, but the once and obvious entrant could be Sarah Palin. That cure would be worse than the illness. Ailes apparently, and rightly, has come to the conclusion that she's "stupid." She also seems to have her own case of Huckabee-ism. She quit the governorship of Alaska to cash in on John McCain's disastrous Hail Mary pass in picking her. It looks like she'd rather be raking in the dollar bills than appointing the secretary of the Treasury who signs them. But she's nothing if not quirky; inspired by the twilight of the midnight sun, she might suddenly tweet her way in. She's just not the savior the party's desperate are yearning for; instead she'd be a doomsday machine for the GOP.

Palin's delay, and if it holds her final forbearance, supposedly leaves room for Michele Bachmann, Minnesota congresswoman, Tea Party firebrand, and patriotic Mrs. Malaprop, who recently relocated the start of the American Revolution to Lexington and Concord, New Hampshire. She clones the Palin of Ailes's assessment; the more they encounter Bachmann, the more the vast majority of voters rate her as equally unqualified. Few other than the most fervent think her nomination would result in anything other than a rout.

I want to see you have to sit for interviews on news stations OTHER than Fox/Faux News and have to actually answer questions that aren't spoon fed to you.

I want to see you discuss REAL world policies with ideas that are your OWN and not posted on your Facebook page by underpaid underlings or the Heritage Foundation.

I want people to hound you mercilessly to provide your COMPLETE medical records (the ones you lied about) and answer questions about your "wild ride" delivery.

I want the press to stop treating you like this untouchable queen and REALLY dig into your record & confront you on your lies and exaggerations.

But in the end, I just want you to run Sarah. I really do. You were only a VP candidate last time and were able to hide behind people to avoid scrutiny & tough questions. As a POTUS candidate, you can't do that. There has NEVER been & never will be a "Facebook/Twitter" President. Your "down home folksy" crap will NOT work. It obviously didn't work last time did it?

But since you still have this unshakable self-belief in your "destiny", I urge you to PLEASE run Sarah. After all, I'm sure your "prayer warriors" will protect you from President Obama's intellect during those policy debates. You HAVE been studying up since you quit your job right??

Heck, she may be kicking off a s'mores, hot dog. And apple pie American mom tour in DC lol.

But imagine if she DID become POTUS! I don't think she'd quit or get impeached, she'd have a nervous breakdown, real or staged. (Probably reported as "undisclosed health issues")

Imagine, poor, poor Sarah catatonic and obese in her sickbed, driven to a breakdown by all the mean libruls and all the mean things their lamestream media said about her. All because she cared about America too much...

The extent of the negative reaction by seniors & <55ers to the Ryan-Stop-Medicare-plan was not forseen by the proTeaPer's so Fox/Koch Bros now needs Sarah.

It's RealityTV again.. Fox style.. with Sarah photographed in patriotic locations.. trumpeting
anti-Obama slurs which Fox will broadcast non-stop until their base is angry again.. with Obama and the Dems.

And no more laughing at Sarah on Fox. She is relevant again.

In response to mistah charley ph.d....holy cow. That's exactly what I've been thinking. And having nightmares about. From reading my two new books, I'm getting the impression Mrs. P. definitely does think she is divinely ordained to be the next President. And the series of misfortunate circumstances that could actually put her there are, I don't think, out of the realm of possibilities. This is worse than any horror show I've ever seen. There is no end to this woman's machinations. What is wrong with this country that they can not see her for who she is? Were books written about other "candidates" (I use that term loosely for lack of another better one) like they are about Mrs. Palin? Why are people not paying attention to these things? How on earth does this one ridiculous, petty, snarky woman (and her small entourage of operatives) have so much power about the truth coming out????? I'm thinking the mafia is wishing she was on their payroll for all of her tactics at shutting people up.

  57. Is that clear enough for everybody? LOL!

The one thing we know about Palin, though, is that she is vengeful and spiteful enough to let those emotions overrule any rational thought. She HATES anyone being "right" about her because then she has "lost control" of her own message.

I wonder if simply by stating the obvious whether Lawrence will have incited Palin to "prove" him wrong. I wouldn't be surprised if she goes back on any commitment she made to Roger Ailes. It isn't as if she hasn't sought his counsel before and ignored his advice (blood libel, anyone?). She is such a rogue little maverick!

  60. GoingBrogue,

It is my understanding that, two years from the date of her resignation, Palin could be off the hook only for any violations under the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act. She would still, however, be subject to other applicable state and federal statues (fraud etc) for any violations under those statues.

That she may no longer be charged under the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act after the July anniversary has no bearing on whether the contents of the emails will be exposed. That depends only on what is not redacted after the State of Alaska finally complies with the FOIA request.

Palin can still be tried and convicted in the court of public opinion if the Media actually starts doing its job and REPORTS any violations exposed by the emails.

That all said, I wonder if there is any recourse in the courts to extend the statute of limitations on the Ethics Act for what has been clearly a deliberate attempt on the part of Alaska state officials to delay the release of the emails past the two year anniversary.

  61. I still think this fake bus tour is just an excuse to entertain herself and her grifting family with Other Peoples' Money, to get out of too-remote and unwelcoming Alaska and the deadly heat of Arizona this summer, and mainly to distract from the first 2 of the 3 books describing her flawed life and career.

The Palins have known for months that Dunn's and Bailey's books were to be released in May, so they made arrangements for their 3-pronged counter-attack and distraction to happen at the same time.

Too bad that stupid family doesn't realize the weather in the Northeast can be as hot as Arizona, with the added discomfort of humidity. They should have stayed in Alaska.

Granny Quittypants is a prick-teaser. Like the Beatles sang in Day Tripper:

Got a good reason, for taking the easy way out
Got a good reason, for taking the easy way out, now
She was a day….. tripper, one way ticket, yeah!
It took me so….. long to find out, and I found out

She’s a big teaser, she took me half the way there
She’s a big teaser, she took me half the way there, now

She was a day…. tripper, one way ticket, yeah!
It took me so…. long to find out, and I found out

Tried to please her, she only played one night stands

She was a day…. tripper, Sunday driver, yeah!

  64. I have two thoughts on this:
    1) No, she will not run. She won't give up the money. If she runs, she won't get paid for the psycho-babble bull shit that flows from her mouth. Plus, Alaskan know that she is still pissed that she came in second runner up (third in the Ms. Alaska contest). Watch her wave in her videos - she's still running for beauty queen - not president!
    2) After Palin saw what is about to happen to John Edwards - misuse of contributions -- well, Alaskans know were Caribou Barbi's SarahPac and C4Pee money goes (new houses, cars, facelifts, botox, chartered lear jets, attorneys fees, family consultants, etc. - that stuff costs money. So she better make it look like she's running, so she doesn't wind up in a cell (where she belongs). She also needs her Faux News money. Notice that SarahPac, etc. are revving up their contribution campaigns. She needs money! And she needs it now! She supposedly paid cash for the Arizona house 1.7 mil; probably another .3 mil, or more, for upgrades, furnishings.
Also, she supposedly rehired two aides that she fired. That handwriting is on the wall, too. They probably went back to work for her at a much higher pay scale, because she has been watching Frank Bailey's interviews and she sees his books flying off the shelves, and I am sure these two aides can destroy here, along with Frank.
I'm just sayin'. She's not running. She just needs the attention. In another year she will be known as "Sarah who?"

  65. If they take her off the payroll, she may never get back on.

She's become very accustomed to the lifestyle she's been living these last few years and has no intention of going back to fishmongering. I'm sure that's why Todd puts up with her too. They need each other for that façade of family values that keeps the cash flowing.

She'll tease her minions by toying at running every presidential election for quite some time. Until the money runs dry. She'll fork out a few bucks for a ghost writer every few years to plagiarize another coffeetable book.

She needs more and more money so that when it does dry up, she can live off of the interest on her investments in the style to which she is now accustomed. That is gonna take a LOT more money.

I have no reason to believe Fox wouldn't keep her on the payroll even if they knew she was running. And even if they used Santorum and Gingrich's supposed running as a pretext to fire them. They are a Republican propaganda outlet; thus, they cannot be trusted.

That being said, I am sure that Palin is going to, at most, run a fake campaign as you say Gryphen. She doesn't work at anything, and a real campaign takes work.

Well .... Lawrence is pretty smart, but I'm not so sure he understands her the way we do.

She can't get all of that adulation if she doesn't keep herself out there for her adoring bots. She absolutely, positively needs that adulation. She will run.

However, she won't run as a Rethug, because to do that means to do it on someone else's terms. She tried that already with McCain, and we all know how well that went.

No, as a few others said, she'll get in late (barring any incriminating emails, etc.), hoping to consolidate all of her TP fans into a third party. That way, she can do everything HER way and no one (in her mind) can criticize her.

While I agree with a lot of the points O’Donnell makes about Palin, I do not agree with his certainty that Sarah won’t run for president. He speaks as is she is a rational and logical person, which she is not, and that Fox News is essentially truthful and transparent, which it is not.

Anyone who’s been following Sarah’s career for more than 15 minutes knows that she always does things on her own terms. So... will she run?

I contend that she is *already* running— as evidenced by her new house, her movie, her bus tour (to say nothing of her near constant Fox and MSM exposure). She’s “going rogue” again, doing it her own way, not playing by the “rules” that normally define the game. SHE doesn’t have to do it the way everyone else does it! She is Sarah; she’s a maverick! A rogue! Rules are made for other people, not her!

Seriously, I believe her lust for power/fame is just as strong as her lust for money, and I imagine the two are battling it out in her psyche as we speak. I don’t know which one will win. At the moment, my guess is that she’ll keep raking in the cash as long as she can, while *running* for president in her own roguish way as long as she can. She probably knows there will come a point where she has to make it official, but by then, she figures, she will have already campaigned enough—via her tweets, movie, bus tour, and the MSM following her every twitch and brainfart—to have amped up her base and gathered more followers. Then, and only then, will she announce whether or not God has poured enough fire into her belly or opened that door wide enough for her to walk through it and give us an announcement. But if she DOES walk through that door, I don’t think she’ll last very long....
