For those who have been asking if there is a connection between the Oslo terrorist and Sarah Palin, your wish is my command.

In a revelation that should come as no surprise to most of us, Norway terrorist Anders Behring Breivik, is a fan of the American Tea Party, in particular crazed anti-Muslim firebrand Pamela Gellar.

Breivik was a fan of Tea Party darling Pamela Geller's rabid, anti-Islam website Atlas Shrugs, and made frequent comments there. Indeed Breivik's irrational fear and hatred of Islam and marxism, coupled with his Christian fundamentalism, makes him an ideological twin to many of the most dangerous members of the American Tea Party.

For those who were unaware, Gellar has a vicious, anti-Muslim website called Atlas Shrugs, and she is also on the national Advisory Committee of Jews for Sarah:

JewsForSarah is proud to have the dynamic Madame Geller as a member of our national Advisory Board.

Here is Gellar defending her idol on Canadia TV earlier this year.

Yesterday Gellar quickly put up a post condemning Breivak's murderous rampage and quickly going on the defensive:

According to this report, he started planning this attack nine years ago. I wasn't blogging back then.

Gellar misses the point.  It does not matter if the initial spark for his Muslim hatred did not come from the American Tea Party, Sarah Palin, or Gellar herself, there is increasing evidence that their rhetoric added fuel to inflame his hate until he could not longer take it and felt the time was right to act.

And as movie critic Roger Ebert pointed out in his review of "The Undefeated":

"The Undefeated" takes opposition to the Democratic party for granted, and focuses on Republicans and establishment conservatives, who should apparently share the blame. It praises only the Tea Party, and assigns credit to Palin for Tea Party victories in the 2010 elections. As Palin continues to prolong her entry into this year's GOP Presidential primaries, one wonders if Stephen K. Bannon has his money on a third-party bid by Palin as a Tea Party candidate. I suspect that's where his heart lies.

I myself have seen no evidence that Adolph Hitler ever personally murdered a Jew, but whose name is forever linked to the extinction of six million Jewish people?

So to date Sarah Palin placing a bullseye over Gabrielle Gifford's district had NOTHING to do with her being shot, her hate filled rhetoric during the McCain campaign had NOTHING to do with the insane number of death threats against our President, and her participation in the anti-Muslim hate speech coming from the Tea Party had NOTHING to do with what happened in Oslo, Norway.  Is that what we are supposed to believe?

That is quite a number of coincidences, and what is it that Palin believes about coincidences again?

“There are no coincidences” is a favorite maxim.

I could not have said it better myself.

(I would like to give a hat tip to the anonymous commenter who sent me some of the links I used in this post.  Thank you very much for your help.)

And of course she is saying that being a CHRISTIAN had nothing to do with the terrorist's mass killing. He was just one of those kooks. Of course if he had been a Muslim, it would have had everything to do with his horrific deed. Her logic is warped.

If Sarah Palin fell off the face of the earth I could care less. She is a master manipulator who obviously has no conscience or interests beyond her own self. It is obvious others are feeling the same way. Maybe she will get the hint? Probably not though. She seems dense as a rock.

This, along with SP's Dominionist connections and what they stand for, should be continually pushed in front of the voting public starting NOW. Of course, it should have begun ages ago, but mundo bucks in search of a corporate theocracy were speaking. Now with Murdoch's slimeball tactics being revealed (will Faux be far behind?) and this hate driven killing spree, I'm hoping at least some in the MSM are willing to pay attention to all the "coincidences."

Just went over to HuffPo to see what kind of play they're giving this story (second on head page), when I ran across this pretty amazing comment from FDR-fan, and felt it should be shared since it reflects Gryph's post very well. Exactly as posted:

"First of all my condolences to the Norwegian people.Second I have a message or more like a warning to my Norwegian relatives and freinds I have in your beautiful nation.Actually this applies to other nations as well. Consider it a message from the inside. America is being taken over by zealots, its very dangerous and I never thought I would see it in my own country. People around the world need to know whats happening over hear. America is obviously a very powerful country so it matters to the planet what happens here.I would advise you to cut off all access to American radical internet sites and media sources for the good of your country. George Soros who wittnesed these events firsthand as a kid recently gave an interview to CNN where he said he see's similaritys to whats happening in America today--scary I know-- but thats what he said. As a student of history I've got to say I agree. Protect yourselves, from whats happening here, take it seriously for your own good. 26. Picking up from Love And KnishesFromBrooklyn. It is time for all of us to get ready to "fight" for our country. I don't care if you are Christian, Atheist, Jewish, or what have you, if you believe that being human requires you to care about the well-being of other humans, you have got to join together and raise your voices. The current "debate" over the debt ceiling shows dramatically how far the Dominionists are willing to go to get and keep power. Make no mistake, despite what they call themselves, these are not Christians. The leadership is interested in wealth, power, and control...period. I know blogs like this will keep going as long as they can, but we all need to make connections within our communities so that we can act to protect those in our communities who need help. We need to speak up, not just vote, but work for candidates. We need to do what we personally can to assure free and fair elections. This is no longer the America of our youth. If we want our country to survive, we must put ourselves out there. The problem with progressives is we can see all sides of a problem and shades of grey. For once we will have to show the other side, that we do have a bottom line and they have crossed it.

This Nazi stuff is getting out of hand. Wow! I despise Sarah but to compare her to Hitler is wrong. You will lose all credibility going this route. I've read here since 2008 and have supported what you are doing but this is just wrong.
Hitler ORDERED directly the deaths of 6 million Jews. Also murdered were homosexuals, the handicapped and millions of non Jews.
The other thing you forget is that Muslim extremism IS a huge issue in our world. To pretend it isn't, is naive. It's also more prevalent than you realize. Any form of religious extremism is wrong when it includes hatred and purposeful killing!
I'm not saying Sarah isn't capable of becoming responsible or to do crazy things. But to compare her to Hitler minimizes the death and torture of millions. Do you know about all of the terrible medical experiments done on people, and not just Jews. But forced sterilizing and other atrocities.

I just can't believe you are comparing her to Hitler.

How the hell is that different from Glen Beck calling liberals Hitler.

Stop using the Holocaust for your own agenda of hatred.

There are plenty of things to criticize Sarah for. Has your hatred of her now gone too far? I think so. But more importantly you minimize the suffering of millions in this comparison. This makes you sound irrational and frankly stupid as hell.

If you are serious about warning people and educating them about Christian Dominionism, this is not the way to do it. It makes you Jessie look as ignorant and as full of hate as Sarah. It alienates a huge number of Jews who happen to be liberal and Democrats.

The Nazi comparisons are over the top. If you truly think anything Sarah has said or done is equivalent to Adolph Hitlers atrocities, I can no longer trust your opinions about Sarah and the information you provide. You sound as batshit crazy as Bachmann or Palin.

  35. I think people are reading too much into my mention of Hitler in the post. It was not my intent to compare Palin, or even Gellar, directly with Adolph Hitler, but rather to point out that just because they themselves did not cause anybody physical harm did not excuse their rhetoric from inspiring others to do just that.

I had actually considered using Charles Manson instead, but considering the Teabaggers obvious attempts to damage our political system in order to stage a coup, I thought the Hitler analogy worked better.

And don't forget that Hitler also used Christian imagery, and nationalist pride, to corrupt the minds of his followers and convince them that he was Germany's only hope for salvation.

    I'm just saying.

Jews were put in ghettos by the Polish; Jews in France were rounded up by French police; in the Netherlands, people were turned in by their neighbours. And it wasn't just Jews, either. Instead of trashing on Gryph for bringing up Hitler, take a look at his rise to power. He was popular not only in Germany, but in many European countries and the US, where he had significant supporters in business and government. He knew how to fix the economy, restore patriotism, and make government and business function, so his wide-ranging followers said. He promoted church, children and country. "We want to fill our culture again with the Christian spirit."
"Secular schools can never be tolerated because such schools have no religious instruction...." BTW, abortion was criminalized and people providing it were subject to the death penalty.

    Sound familiar?

Right now we are focused on Norway, forgetting our own rise in attacks on people who "aren't real Americans" during the last presidential election. Anyone remember Adkisson in Kentucky? He opened fire on people in a church he deemed too liberal. Here's part of his suicide note. "Know this if nothing else: This was a hate crime. I hate the damn left-wing liberals. There is a vast left-wing conspiracy in this country & these liberals are working together to attack every decent & honorable institution in the nation, trying to turn this country into a communist state. Shame on them....

... Someone had to get the ball rolling. I volunteered. I hope others do the same. It's the only way we can rid America of this cancerous pestilence."

Keep writing, Gryph. Few people are looking at the big picture.

The thing we have to be worried about, that was done in Germany in the beginning of the 20th century, was one part of society demonizing another. We've seen way too much of that very deliberate process happening over the past few years and it should frighten all of us.

It's so much easier to feel guiltless about harming or even killing people if they've been identified as the 'others' and their value has been determined as less than yours. Remember that one reason slavery was allowed to continue in this country for so many years was that black people were considered worth less than white people. Buying, selling, abusing and even killing them wasn't such a bad thing because they weren't REALLY people like the white folks were. People would lynch a black man and then sit in the front pew of their church the next day, feeling righteous.

We haven't quite reached that point today, but something very similar is happening with these fundamentalist, evangelical, so-called Christians. Somehow, the leaders of the movement have convinced their followers that, contrary to anything and everything Jesus taught, it's not only okay to hate others, it's downright encouraged. Everything bad in the world is blamed on them and any evidence to the contrary is just held up as proof of some terrible conspiracy cooked up by the evil liberals. Just read the comments on any political website and you'll see some of the most vile, nasty hateful things written by people who probably go to church every Sunday and don't see any contradiction in how they feel.

  59. Here to defend Gryph today:

Making Hitler analogies invites trouble. Making Hitler analogies to others that mention the Holocaust always invites a lot of trouble. People are commenting negatively about Gryph's Hitler reference at other blogs as well, which is how I got here.

Gryph is technically correct. The records of the Wansee Conference, where the blueprints for "The Final Solution" were worked out, make no reference to Hitler, nor was he there. Nor do the orders to the Einsatzkommando groups that went through cities, towns and villages in the Pale, rounding up and massacring well over a million Jews, from July 1941 until the Soviets chased the Nazis out in 1943 and 1944, have any conspicuous references to anyone anywhere close to the top of the Nazi hierarchy.

It was largely process. However, had Hitler survived the Battle of Berlin and been tried, he would have been tied to the Holocaust and to all the other crines of the Third Reich. And he would have been convicted and hanged.

Gryph does, though, over-rate how Palin herself is tied to European far right politics. Breivik has left hundreds of pages of manifestos, thousand upon thousands of blog comments, including many at Atlas Shrugs (I commented there a few times back in 2005 and 2006 - not to show my appreciation, though. Heh. The result was, like at The Mudflats, to ban me) and other American blogs, let alone in Norway and Europe.

Geller and many other Americans praised by Breivik are keyed into the European far right in ways that are structural. Palin is not. She is an opportunist, but even though we've got a picture of her as a Wasilla City Councilwoman back in the '90s peering over a John Birch Society newsletter (her official portrait), she is not really interested in European politics.

I doubt Palin's name will come up in any of Breivik's voluminous legacy. It is more likely that she will privately say something supportive of Breivik's ideas to one of her inner circle, that we'll never hear about, than that Breivik admired her or mentioned her.

BTW, I mentioned Hitler today, too. Here's a comment I made at another blog early Sunday afternoon, in response to the meme that Christians don't very often do hateful things:

Over 600 German Christian youth organizations supported the National Socialists in their rise to power. Most battalions in the Wehrmacht had Christian chaplains, as did a few in the Waffen SS. Long after the Nazi rise to power, one of the most prominent faces or portraits on Christian magazine covers in Germany and Austria, even up into 1943, was Adolf Hitler

I read a good article in Crooks & Liars today about how they have now proved how the 2004 election was stolen in Ohio...and we all know they stole it in Fla. I am so afraid of 2012, with the ALEC documents coming out and the voter supression laws being enacted with these new Rep governors, its like this huge conspiracy they have finally decided to enact for this election. Now this in Norway?? I totally agree with you about Paliin, but again I think the establishment is just using her like the teabaggers to further their sinister agenda. I wish we could arrest them for terrorism.

In the manifesto, Breivik cites Geller and other anti-Jihadists as sources for his inspiration. The appearance earned Geller and company a lashing at the hands of The New York Times and many other mainstream media outlets. Reporters have scoured Breivik’s writings, in his manifesto and elsewhere, looking for a connection to anti-jihad activists like Geller.

Geller points out that while she and Jihad Watch’s Robert Spencer appear in Breivik’s manifesto, so do several influential historical thinkers. For instance, the New Yorker reports that Breivik cites Thomas Hobbes, John Locke and Adam Smith. “Are they responsible too?” Geller asks.

Some bloggers also allege that one of Geller’s contributors, a writer named “Fjordman,” is really Breivik hiding behind a pseudonym. The Guardian has since disproved that accusation.

Geller also told TheDC that those allegations are not true. Fjordman is not Breivik, she says. Geller adds that she has not met or communicated with Breivik at all. Not ever.

“No dealings, no emails, no nothing,” Geller said. “He mentions me once in a 1,500 page ‘manifesto,’ and this is the tie? Does anyone see how completely ridiculous this whole thing is?

“This is a propaganda campaign and, if anything, it shows the true agenda of the media. I find it very revealing. It has nothing to do with me. Nothing.”

Geller added that the media-wide decision to label Breivik a conservative Christian doesn’t make sense. “He himself said he’s not a religious man,” Geller said “There’s nothing in Christianity that calls for this.”
