Rachel Maddow discusses how Republicans use a Presidential campaign, not to win the White House, but as a stepping stone to fame and fortune. Sound familiar?

(By the way in the lead up to this segment Rachel played the confrontation between Todd Palin and the Alaskan women in Iowa that we discussed here several days ago.  You can see that here.)

Gingrich is in it to make money. He sells his books, DVD's and now his wife's childrens book at his speeches. The reason most of his aides quit is because, as they said at the time "we were not hired to be salesmen". Palin is in it to grift from the brain-dead followers who actually think she could be president. Huckabee dropped out, it is easier to grift from his Faux gig. Any democratic politicians who run are in it to win it. They honestly believe they can do some good for the country. President Obama thought so, until he ran into the brick wall known as "the republican side of the aisle" I am amazed that any decent, honest person would even want the job. W diminished the office so badly, the US became the laughingstock of the entire world. No other country elects morons to lead them.

If and when Murdoch and Fox are brought down, the end game (a lucrative slot on Fox complaining about anything not conservative enough) will change. Radio can be lucrative, but you don't get the face time these celebrities crave. So we can pray that the British do our work for us and expose the criminals...all of them.

Yes, it has proved a lucrative spring-board to notoriety which leads to speaking gigs and other appearances. Think Sarah Palin, Christine O'Donnell and Joe Miller who can't hack it in the Free Market on their resumes.

These guys just want to be rock stars for a tiny base that still is a big payoff with 13% of the country firmly in the box of outrageous and dying 'morals.'

5:32 said all I wanted to about this.
Perhaps many of us had not thought about how the name recognition was so important for speaking gigs, books, etc. Palin took it to such a brassy level it could not be ignored.
Why else would these people stay in when they know they do not have a chance?

One thing that Ms. Maddow (and many others) didnt mention is that Todds comments were not correct re. the attorney bills due as a result of the ethics complaint. If I understand correctly SP had the benefit of using State attorneys at no cost, the hitch there would be after the case was concluded it was public information, She decided to hire a private attorney because she didnt want the information made public, so much for her campaign promise of an open and transperant campaign.

This was rather obvious to the casual political observer with the Christine "I am NOT a witch" O'Donnel's campaign. She had been running for various political offices for the last 4 or 5 years and using the funds that she was raising to make her mortgage payments. Nice gig if you can get it. Newt Gingrich knows he has no chance but he has said privately that he is in the race to pay off his several millions of dollars in debt. Maybe he just needs to quit treating Calista to all of those jewels. It is very maddening to see these crooks using their PACs as their private ATMs but as long as the FEC is worthless then we get this kind of crap.

Thanks for this commentary. I saw this clip while reading your blog yesterday, and what todd said prooves you've been right all along.

Rachel has truly found her niche, her show keeps getting better and better, and I hope more people start watching.

    Off Topic,

Current TV is undergoing a huge overhaul, and will begin promoting more liberal commentary, documentarties, and hosts. Not sure why the change, heard it's been taken over by someone other than Gore, but haven't found out for sure. Can it be this channel will feature more documentary on the truth about palin? I heard something on wxpn, the local college radio of Penn State University, but didn't catch it all, I hope Keith has some input, would be great to have a new source for news! Stay tuned!

Gryphen- According to Steve Kraske at the Kansas City Star..
Palin may have faked her Monday visit to the WW1 Museum, the Liberty Memorial.
Her FB post was clearly designed to
    give the impression
    she actually visited the Museum

    http://www.kansascity.com/2011/08/19/3087587/a-silent-sojourn-by-palin-puzzles.html

Palin posted her FB article on Monday about how moving it was to visit the Liberty Memorial in KC.
    Steve Kraske analyzed her visit
and spoke to employees at the Memorial.

No one saw Palin at the Liberty Memorial
    on Monday.
Had she been there " word would have spread like wildfire an employee said."

The Memorial museum is rarely crowded.
I bet there were only a handful of visitors there that day.
She would have stood out like a sore thumb.
Again-no Memorial museum employees saw her
    or Todd or their entourage.

Palin wrote of standing in the rain outside
the Memorial museum reading the names
of those who fell during WW1.
It seems she just stood outside and never went in.
If she even went to the Liberty Memorial at all.
Kraske thinks she just used the
    Memorial " visit "
so she could refer to it in future speeches.

The picture she posted of Piper ,
with the Memorial in the background was
    taken on the balcony
    of the nearby Westin hotel.
No one at the hotel saw Palin all day, either.
Not the people at the front desk.
    Nor the doormen.
No one in the local media ,
    no GOP insiders ,
    not even the Vitae Foundation
( an anti abortion group ) that paid Palin
to speak last fall were told
    Palin was in town.
Guess once she takes your money and runs,
    your cause becomes meaningless.

A local fundraising consultant told Kraske
    they were shocked Palin
    never contacted anyone.
The clear impression from the article is that Palin
may not have been in Kansas City
    at all that day.
And if she was , she never left the hotel.
Palin used the fallen and missing from Vietnam
    for propaganda when she crashed
    the Rolling Thunder rally.
It appears she also used the fallen from WW1
    for her propaganda.
    She's beyond disgusting.
