Is Herman "Herb" Cain the NEW Sarah Palin?

Courtesy of Esquire:

She (Sarah Palin) invented an entire genus of modern celebrity politician. She became a famous politician despite being thoroughly mediocre at either being elected to public office, or at performing the duties of the offices to which she was actually elected. She has spent a year being a celebrity politician, coyly flirting with running for president in a country where her approval ratings are somewhere north of that enjoyed by cholera and the mange. She was a famous celebrity politician because she was a famous celebrity. Her political talents — indeed, her entire intellect — remain quite limited relative to her fame. Talent doesn't matter. The buzz around her has remained loud. She has created and maintained her celebrity with a single-minded focus that she never brought to the job of being governor of Alaska.

And Herman Cain is the first successful post-Palin politician.

He is manifestly smarter than she is, and he is infinitely more disciplined as a candidate. Say what you will about the merits of his 9-9-9 Plan, and all there is to say about it is that it is suicidally harebrained, Cain stuck to it like a bulldog on Tuesday night. (If Rick Perry had that kind of stubborn streak, he'd be up by 20 points by now.) Except in her ungainly diving at every nickel that rolls across her path, Sarah Palin never has demonstrated that kind of monomaniacal tenacity that Cain manages without breaking a sweat. At the same time, he is running a "campaign" not entirely dissimilar to the various grifting scams that Palin has visited upon the nation. Except, of course, that Cain actually has declared a candidacy and is out there actually appearing to run for president. He is out there selling himself as a political celebrity no less than Palin does. She created the mold. Herman Cain is what it produced.

I LOVED this article! Especially the way that Mr. Pierce exhibits absolutely NO hesitation in describing Sarah Palin as a celebrity playing at politics, rather than a serious person interested in public service.

That is the perfect way to describe this walking embarrassment to Alaska, to women, and to the American political system.

The fact that Herman Cain can be compared so effectively to Snowdrift Snooki should have any Republican thinking of supporting him running away as quickly as humanly possible. I also believe that, unlike Mitt Romney and even Rick Perry, Cain is in this race merely for the opportunity to gain recognition and make money, with no real intention of seeking election to the White House. Not that he has a chance anyhow.

P.S. When you click the link to read the article at Esquire you might notice that the picture of Herman Cain that is featured is actually of him with a Sarah Palin impersonator and not the real Sarah Palin. Which to me sort of demonstrates that she has now become such a parody of herself that nobody can tell where the reality ends, and the fantasy begins.

    Really interesting site I got from Palingates yesterday.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~
    White supremacy has profoundly damaged some black people people in this country. Truly it has. Case in point: at every step of his career Herman Cain benefited from the Civil Rights Movement and programs such as affirmative action in hiring and university admissions. Now, he spits in the face of that legacy and plays the "racism doesn't exist" game.
    Great Article!
    Herb IS like Peaches but with a slightly higher IQ. He's up for "Moustache of the year"award, and was SO proud of his facial hair and glasses as his "trademark". Finally, a candidate of substance. Unlike the "slightly bearded one" Sarah endorsed in Alaska.
    I wonder, if Sarah reads this article, if she'd actually "get" the joke.
    Loved the "chasing every nickel that rolls her way" comment, and the fact he calls it like it is "Grifter".
    I admit to being quite taken aback by the apparent popularity that Cain has managed to muster recently.
    I say this, due to how I have several "Fox'n'friends" who think its okay to say in front of me such things as: "I never listen to that (N word) when he comes on tv, and jump up to change the channel" referring to the President.
    So to learn that (what, MILLIONS?) of conservatives just like those friends, are suddenly color blind, and supporting Cain, is boggling my mind.
    Will they be willing to listen to the many WHITE MEN who are economists, telling us that the "9 9 9" plan is the craziest, most depression-inducing move the nation could possibly make?
    Cain has been diagnosed and treated (with surgery and chemo) for stage IV colon cancer that had metastasized to his liver – not a good scenario for a 65-year old man. The amount of physical energy he portrays in light of that is remarkable. What his physical prognosis may be is anyone's guess, but it is a topic that should be openly discussed.
    Compared to both Romney and Perry, Cain comes across as someone with: impressive qualifications, an impressive career, an impressive level of sincerity, and an impressive level of testosterone. The two major white boy contenders are out of their league when compared with him, and I think even the tea partiers can sense it. I also think his commitment to the race is far deeper than Sarah's ever was, and that he has an agenda beyond merely filling his bank account. (And no, I wouldn't vote for him if someone paid me to do so.)
    My very knowledgable and considerably experienced tax lawyer friend tells me that Cain's 9-9-9 plan would lower taxes on the wealthy by about 40%, and raise them on the poor by about the same amount: yup, 40%. And yes, in view of that one fact alone, the tea partiers really are certifiably stoooopid in throwing their support to him. My guess: Romney and Perry have the same plan up their sleeves as well.
    I don't like him at all. He comes of as sort of a "good ole boy" - and I do realize how off the mark that expression is here.
    I think that 28% of Republicans are clamoring for him so they don't have to think of themselves as the racists they mostly are. It won't even surprise me if they make an effort to put him on the ticket, health problems notwithstanding, just to pre-empt the argument that the Republicans don't want a black man in the White House. Apparently Mr. Cain is happy to oblige the evil geniuses in that regard. A real deal with the real Devil.
    I don't understand Cain's stage 4 cancer diagnosis.
    I had Breast Cancer. I was told if it was stage 4, that it could be managed but would not be eradicated. In other words, I would live with it until nothing else could be done. Luckily, it was stage 2 but I do wonder about Cain. Maybe a miracle occurred and prostate cancer is different. But, his health does need to be discussed and people do need to ask questions. Is he still on medication? Do they simply consider him in remission or "cured."
    I don't know about the truth of what he says but I do know, in my case with only stage 2 and having finished chemo, I still have to take medicine for another 5 years as a preventive measure and hope it doesn't return. If I could, I wouldn't run for President because my future may be "iffy". No one knows. Sorry if I offend anyone, but I think many more questions need to be asked about his Cancer or the stage of prostate cancer he says he had. But, that in itself, could cause problems and be touted as discriminatory.
    I don't understand all the stressing out about MeAgain. I personally think she is authentic, but on the slight chance that she is playing us, honestly - so what? Is it really causing any great harm to keep an eye on her posts? Are we wasting "precious" time and energy? Are we being distracted from our other conversations? Are we treating her every word as gospel? I don't think so. It's just not necessary to shut her out. I don't care if I look or feel foolish if it turns out she was deceiving us. I don't think she is, though.
    I don't think she ever presented herself as anything other than someone who has a friend (or relation, who knows) who is directly involved with that family and/or political team. She says she has some copies of emails, many heavily redacted, that she is going to check out and send to Gryphen. Has already said she doesn't think any bombshells are in there but perhaps some interesting bits that will help us somehow.
    @ 6:13, Affirmative Action has most definitely helped African Americans and other minorities achieve educational, and in turn economic, equality in this country. To state otherwise is pure ignorance. For generations, African Americans and others (as recently as the 50's, even Jews) were excluded from admission to some of our nation's top schools (which is why excellent institutions like Morehouse, Spelman and Howard Universities were founded, in the case of African Americans).
    There is no such thing as separate but equal, however. Brown vs. Board of Education - check it out. That is why we needed Affirmative Action legislation.
    If you are speaking to Affirmative Action in the context of employment, this has meant the inclusion of people of color in professions such as firefighting, business and even the military. Without this enforced commitment to diversity, there would be a preponderance of white faces and families in those fields.
    We have had progress because we had Affirmative Action. This does not contradict the idea that every man and woman has the power to determine their own destiny. When the playing field isn't fair, appropriate adjustments must be made. We are evolving, however, so maybe we won't have a need for Affirmative Action someday, God willing.
    Btw, "AA" is traditionally the acronym for Alcoholics Anonymous.
    Herman Cain is as dumb as a box of rocks as a politician, just like Palin. He, Palin, and Bachmann are proof that the GOP keeps failing to appreciate that it's about ideology as opposed to racial or gender identity. He is obviously smarter than Palin, but both of them lack common decency or common sense. Aside from his contemptible remark that liberals killed Christ who was a conservative, he now has said he wants a fence that electrocutes illegal immigrants if the alligators in the moat don't get them. Then he claims he was joking about that. Aside from his insulting remarks about Democratic-voting blacks in general and the president in particular, his goofy 9-9-9 plan would hurt everyone but the wealthy, he is affiliated with the ethically-and-empathy challenged Koch brothers. He's saying stupid things just like Palin when she was riding high.
