THIS is the GOP frontrunner?

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Listening to Herman Cain attempt to explain his position on abortion may have quite literally cost me precious brain cells. How can ANYBODY take this guy seriously?

He clearly does not know what he thinks on the issue, and is desperately trying to give the answer that he believes will satisfy his Republican audience. And suffers an EPIC FAIL!

I think it is hysterical that he thinks he can say on the one hand that government should not have any say over a woman's right to choose, but on the other that abortion should not be legal. I doubt this guy can choose his socks without some guidance, much less his position on complex issues.

Yet this is indeed the guy currently leading in the polls for the Republican nomination.

I bet Sarah Palin is kicking herself now.

"I don't flippin' believe it! Even I can say something smarter than that! Todd, where are the rest of those damned canned goods? I think I saw that refrigerator smirk at me!"

I seriously believe the GOP put Cain out there simply because he is a black man. They never expected him to become the front runner and now they are freaking out.

  4. Add his revised 9-0-9 tax plan to his stand on abortion and he's making Romney look good by comparison.

So many flip-flops, evasions, tortured logic and outright lies have finally exposed to everyone what many of us have known for years: the Republicans are a bunch of fools.

The present field of possible Republican candidates is an embarrassment. But they are great entertainment. Keep it up. Obama deserves a landslide win for re-election.

The Palin followers have latched on to incoherent and babbling Herman.
That must be their comfort zone.
Herman is even mimicking Palin with his PAC financial hanky panky , with some writers alleging money laundering.
And then there's that whole looting the pensions of employees when
he was on the board of Aquila Energy.
Cain is the black Ken Lay , he was a defendant in five lawsuits ,
including one large class action .
    Anyone who criticizes Herman's nonsense
or brings up his sketchy background
on the right blogs gets the Palin treatment.
Hysteria , name calling , threats.

I don't think that "Herb" Cain ever wanted to be President. He was just selling his book and trying out for a Fox News show. When his poll numbers turned around he knew he had to take himself out of the running somehow. I think he is smart enough to know you have to be anti-choice to win the nomination.

I am more interested with the story in Wonkette about the NJ Mayor (R) who had pictures of him lying in bed posted on a website made by his rentboy.

I feel bad for those who do not know of the tv show "Amos & Andy." One of the characters was a sleazy lawyer named Algonquin J. Calhoun, who would say all the wrong things to the judge, in "defense" of his clients.

It makes it even funnier to watch this bozo pretend to run for the presidency, to see the parallels, to that character.

In four years, the NOpublicans will undoubtedly come up with some "law" that you can not run as a candidate of their party, unless you are SERIOUS about it, not just bilking the feebleminded for campaign contributions.

Abortion rights are in serious trouble and it is heartbreaking. Swedish Hospital in Seattle just announced they will no longer provide for abortions in the hospital as they are now hooking up with Providence hospitals. There is so much outrage they had to review the situation and decided it will help put together a clinic with Planned Parenthood next door to Swedish. I will continue sending money to PP and will up our contribution in January when we revisit our budget.

Herman Cain is a puppet just like Palin was (or still is, but who cares?). I think the GOP has simply decided to go with the crazy until Obama is through his second presidency. My GOP friends tell me this is the reason McCain picked Palin. He knew he was losing and it she was the perfect fall candidate. I have to agree she provided the talent for that role.

I have been thinking for about 2 weeks now that Palin could be doing quite well in the polls now if she had run. Of course it would all have gone spectacularly wrong later on for her. Still you really don't have to do much to poll well with this group of Republican voters. It's frightening really. If she didn't have so much baggage, but was just stupid and vindictive then I think she could actually have done reasonably well in the primary at least.

Herman Cain, as is his wont, loves to talk about how his experience as a guy who ran a pizza delivery business taught him that to be an effective leader, you have to be working on the right problem. Well, we've taken this to heart, after having it drummed into us at several debates, and we'd like to return the favor. Herman, the problem you have is that whether or not you got into this race as a for-real candidate for president -- and plenty of people doubt that you have! -- you really haven't thought this through, have you?

It sure seems like you haven't! What we've seen up until this week is a guy with an enviable amount of charisma and the knack for potent, zazzy public speaking who largely gets by on surface charms. You really thought your 999 Plan -- and we'll take you at your word that it didn't come from Sim City -- was going to get over on its easy-to-brand name and a steady dose of constant repetition, didn't you? You see, we suspected that you hadn't really worked through the mechanics when you declined to show your math and name your advisors. That was just strange. But you were exposed, I'm afraid, at this week's debate when a gang of professional politicians ganged up on you and put you through the ringer.

Yeah, there are a lot of people who subscribe to the belief that what government needs is someone from outside the Beltway community, and plenty of folks who come with that resume manage to score seats just fine downticket. But this is the presidential race, Herman. As Murray Head sang, don't you know that when you play at this level it's no ordinary venue? Say what you want about career politicians -- the fact is, they know that this game is pure combat and they know how to wield the weapons.

How quick was it, Herman? Ten minutes? You got knuckled up from all directions. Santorum was combative, Gingrich was patronizing (your heart was in the right place!), Perry was affable (I'll bump with ya, brother!), and then ol' Mitt just came at you with solid high school forensics. You never considered the fact that you'd be piling a new sales tax on Granite State residents? You should have. As soon as you tossed up your apple and oranges line, Mitt straight snatched your chain.

It took you a while to realize what had happened, didn't it? Well, that's becoming a thing, too. Take that mess you got into over abortion this week. We understand what you thought you were doing when you said, "Ultimately it gets down to a choice that that family or that mother has to make. Not me as president, not some politician, not a bureaucrat. It gets down to that family, and whatever they decide, they decide." Small government. Keep the bureaucracy out of people's homes. That's some solid conservative reasoning, we'll give you that.

But you didn't think it through. You should understand by now that no matter what you've heard about about the Tea Party and the rise of Tentherism and whatnot, the GOP base wants the government to intrude, massively, into people's lives when it comes to abortion. And you may think that you can...

Cain took a mega-dose of scrutiny over his various plans and positions -- revealing that there really wasn't a whole lot of "there" there. House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy summed up Cain as a man who's "qualified to run" but not qualified to win. Over at New York magazine, Jonathan Chait sounded a similar refrain:

Even if Cain decided midstream to switch from business plan pseudo-candidate to actual candidate, it is difficult to believe that many of his putative supporters would actually pull the lever for him. Announcing one's support for him is a statement, a finger in the eye of Obama and the liberals, not an indicator of a likely vote.

Cain remains resolute. He says that he's quite sure that people will demand his 999 Plan even if it raises their taxes. He has to believe that, because man, this 999 Plan is going to raise the everloving monkey-poo out of your taxes, friend! Unless you are titanically wealthy! In that case, you are on Eas(iest) Street. Warren Buffett? He makes out like a bandit.

Of course, seeing the other candidates rip 999 apart is a very odd sight. Patrick Caldwell thinks that their animosity toward Cain's plan is based on the fact that it makes standard-issue GOP plans to saddle the middle and lower class with the majority of the tax burden while letting the wealthy off the hoop a little too obvious:

If implemented, Cain's 9-9-9 plan would result in a massive tax increase for the poor and middle class. According to the Tax Policy Center, of the 84 percent of people who would see an increase, the lowest 20 percent of the population would be hit by almost $1,700 in extra

I read on the Political Carnival blog earlier today that Cain hasn't paid fees to enter quite a few states where primaries are to be held within a few months. In light of this, I'm thinking he doesn't have a real game plan that would cause anyone to think he is a serious candidate.

On Hardball tonight Chris Matthews brought up a video of an earlier hypothetical question posed by Wolf Blitzer to Cain about how he would handle a situation related to the exchange of arms to a terrorist organization for freeing of hostages. He was also able to answer that question both ways saying he would make the deal but he would never 'bargain' with terrorists.

He, Palin and Bachmann have made a career out of 'cramming' for an exam in the hopes that a few of the words they skimmed would stick long enough to qualify as a credible response. Too much RedBull, cheap pizza and helium on those late night cram sessions I fear. Failing grades for all.

Come to think of it, he does talk about her a lot... and he seems to be sort of obsessed with her inflatable boobs. So maybe this is all just his way trying to get her attention? Nah. Well, maybe he's just trying to detract her, maybe enough to cause her to trip over those ridiculous shoes she wears (that don't even fit!), maybe she'll do a header off a stage somewhere, -oh don't worry, she's wearing enough inflatables, implants, spandex, and fake hair that her fall is well cushioned. We don’t wish her any physical harm. But when they dig her out of the pit, she's swearing like a sailor, partial is hanging all askew, a boob is popped, the glasses are gone and that eye is goin' rouge! Ah ha. His position on abortion should be irrelevant - this is what the gop discuss when they have no policies of any merit.

He should be taken to task for his absolute lack of knowledge on foreign affairs, local affairs, economics and any other topic OTHER THAN what women do with their bodies.

The GOP is putting women back hundreds of years - any woman who supports them deserves to be forced to spend 30 years of her life barefoot and pregnant because that is what she is supporting with her vote - just too sad for words.

Before you know it the GOP will demand that women cover their faces when out in public.

Gryphen, that video of Cain is rare footage of behavior that was hitherto thought to be humanly impossible. You have footage of Cain actually fucking himself.

The anti-abortion crowd has already drawn their long knives for Cain. He spoke the unspeakable. He effectively declared himself a pro-choice candidate, albeit one that would ban abortions completely.

In trying to chart a course that was on both sides of an irreconcilably VAST gulf between the pro-choice and anti-abortion camps, he REALLY pissed off the anti-abortion folks. They don't really care much for nuance or compromise; they want lockstep conformity, abject fealty, and they want it now and forever and ever, Amen.

Is the mother's life in danger? Who fucking cares? NO EXCEPTIONS. Is the pregnancy the product of rape or incest? Who fucking cares? NO EXCEPTIONS. Is the child horribly deformed or have an irreversibly fatal condition? Who fucking cares? NO EXCEPTIONS.

Hey, if the mother was raped, it must be God's will, so it's her punishment, right? Same with a deformed child. Must be God's wrath visiting that whore of a mom.

THOSE are the kind of people Herb is trying to ingratiate himself to, and from the looks of it, rather unsuccessfully.

Watch as Cain slides right into the gutter where he belongs.

I also think he's polling so high, like Palin did, because the GOTP wants to pretend they're not the Good Ol' White Boys club. Again, he would be in way over his head. He would need lotso puppet-masters as president who would push their own agenda.

The major difference between Palin and Cain is that Cain is being vetted.

Eric Cantor was scheduled to speak at University of Penn, on "income disparity", in an effort to flip flop on the "I, for one, am growing increasingly concnerned about the unruly mob...." faux pas on OWS.

Apprently he chickened out because the university had the respect, courage and grace to invite the first 300 open seats for ows folks to attend the speech.

They had a letter campaign to the university along with the protesters. There were remarkably few signs that even mentioned Cantor nor his scheduled speech. And I have to give kudos to the police here. They've done their level best, above and beyond the call, to support the peaceful protest by the city's citizens while keeping things orderly.

Cain is proving himself to be ignorant about both national and international affairs, aside from his lack of any political experience. He is also becoming as big a flip-flopper as Romney, as both of them like to twist themselves into weird shapes to accomodate the stupidest, most ill-informed yokels in the GOP. With his goofy remark about "U-beki-beki-stan-stan," he has cemented his well-deserved reputation as being as willfully ignorant and intellectually incurious as Palin on her worst day. With Palin in the case of women, and with Steele, Alan Keys, and now Cain in the case of blacks, the GOP shows that it fails to realize that these candidates are rejected based on ideology rather than gender or racial identity. The fact is that the ideology is a regressive one embraced by the lunatic fringe.

Oh, Gryphen, you are SO quick to mock the brilliant Herb Cain and his simple ideas to solve this country's complex problems.

First, the SUPER SIMPLE 9-9-9 tax plan is perfect in its simplicity and will fix EVERY economic problem in this country within SIX months of PRESIDENT Cain taking office!!!!

Edit: Ok, I forgot to mention it's 9-9-9 for everyone except the poor. And then it's 9-0-9. AWESOME!!! and SIMPLE!!!!!

Edit 2: Ok, it's 9-9-9 for everyone and 9-0-9 for the poor. And for farmers it's going to be 9/4.5 plus 33% of net income less 15% of long term amortization on prepaid non-financial, non-farming, non-depreciable income earning assets, 9-9. There's a system so simple you dont even need the IRS!

Edit 3: Ok the petroleum industry has a good point that in order to achieve energy independence they will need a 0-0-0 tax plan which does add to the deficit but it's beneficial in its simplicity and the oil business can divert money wasted on tax accountants to pay bribes to mideast potentates and impotentates, also, too.

Edit 4: Ok, the medical industry and the airlines have a good case that their taxes should also be based on the 0-0-0 plan and that's hard to argue against. so it's still a very simple plan and much fairer than what we have now. HERB CAIN 2012!!!!!

Edit 5: Shit! I just realized that the real estate industry is in dire straits. So, they pretty much are going to get the 0-0-0 plan too.

edit 6: HEY LIBTARDS!!! YOU THINK IT'S EASY RUNNING MULTI-BILLION DOLLAR HEDGE FUNDS?? WELL FUCK YOU!!! Yeah, the hedgefund masters of the universe pretty much are gonna have to get the 0-0-0 plan or they've threatened to stop hedge funding, so we need to give them a break, too. HERB CAIN!!!! WOO HOOO!!!! 2012!!!!!!

Edit 7: Ok, I have a confession to make. The whole 9-9-9 (6-6-6??) ploy is a load of crap that Herb doesnt even believe himself. But, seriously, if you just give him a chance, he's a fast learner and once he gets the hang of the job and stops offending countries that end in the suffix -stan, he'll be a very great president. And he truly DOES believe that, even if no else does!

Remember, just because you make a crappy pizza, doesnt mean you'll be a crappy president!

    HERB CAIN/BRISTOL PALIN 2012!!!!!

    ps, Sheridan Road rocks.
