Courtesy of Gallup:
Unemployment, as measured by Gallup without seasonal adjustment, is 8.3% in mid-October -- down sharply from 8.7% at the end of September and 9.2% at the end of August. A year ago, Gallup's U.S. unemployment rate stood at 10.0%. While seasonal hiring patterns may explain some of this improvement, the drop suggests the government could report an October unemployment rate of less than 9.0%.
I was having this conversation just the other day. Even if Obama were to somehow miraculously turn the unemployment numbers around, the Republicans would simply switch the conversation to something they COULD attack him on.
Though to be honest by the time of the election the President might be far less vulnerable on a number of topics than he is right now, and choosing a battleground from which to attack him will only work if the GOP candidate can demonstrate that they are more competent in that area.
Exactly WHERE is Mitt Romney OR Rick Perry better equipped to handle the problems facing our country than President Obama? And please don't tell me this is going to be another Republican campaign focused on gay marriage, abortion, and protecting the 2nd amendment.
Of course if it is that means Romney is out, and George W. Bush's mini-me is in. Won't THAT be fun?
Congratulations Alaska!

No to Pebble Mine!
I can see this happening: The economy turns around in 2012, -- or at least, people stop TALKING about economy -- and the GOP has selected Mitt Romney as their candidate, a guy whose whole appeal to the GOP base is his...ability -- they think -- to turn the economy around...and then they'll be left talking about...the budget? Which....I don't think Romney can win on because I don't think he had such a good track record in Mass. OR...the big issue will be the tax code...which...is a loser for any GOPer...Finally, he'll just have to resort to running on gay marriage....
ReplyDeleteI really can see this happening...we've had a few months now of growth and added jobs...
Martin Sheen adores Obama
ReplyDeletePresident Bartlet has got President Obama’s back.
During an interview airing Tuesday with HLN’s Joy Behar, Martin Sheen – the actor who played the commander-in-chief on “The West Wing” – defended the current president.
Calling Obama “a very special man,” Sheen said, “I adore him. I think he’s done a great job. I don’t think he’s getting a lot of help, but he’s done a great job.”
Instead of blaming Obama for the struggling economy, Sheen said that corporate America is at fault.
“They’re more interested in profits, you know. That’s where the problem lies. It’s corporate America,” he said. “They’re the first ones to complain about big business and regulations, and they’re the first ones to come crawling to them demanding to be rescued.”
Complimenting Obama again later on, Sheen said of the president: “He’s still the only adult in the room, frankly."

Obama Drops The Hammer On Senate Republicans For Refusing To Create Jobs
ReplyDeleteWhile touring North Carolina today to talk about jobs, President Obama not only touted his own jobs plan, but at one point mocked Senate Republicans for their proposed, “Real American Jobs Act.”
Video from C-SPAN:
Obama was correct to mock the Senate Republicans for offering up another empty political gesture instead of policy. Since the day Obama took office, Republicans have embarked on a boom or bust strategy of blocking every piece of legislation that the president has proposed. The GOP goal is to keep the country locked in a paralysis of economic misery. The problem with the Republican strategy is that they are only covering half of their basis.
By not proposing any substantive legislation of their own, Republicans have left Obama with a giant opening. The Republican presidential candidates should be on the campaign trail debating how and how many jobs they will create. Jobs will be the central issue of the 2012 election, but the Republican Party is holding a primary campaign where the issue is never discussed.
Obama should be the candidate who being criticized for not creating jobs. Instead, the president has become the candidate with the most complete job creation plan out there. While the Republican campaign all sit around trying to think of different ways to say cut taxes on the wealthy, decrease regulations, repeal Obamacare, and do what George W. Bush, Obama has taken initiative.
The Republican Party is trying to unseat an incumbent president by not talking about the biggest issue in the campaign. If the Republican nominee runs a campaign based on not raising taxes on the rich and corporations, repealing regulations, and getting rid of Obamacare, they will lose. If the nominee has nothing to say besides Obama has done a lousy job, they will lose.

"Exactly WHERE is Mitt Romney OR Rick Perry better equipped to handle the problems facing our country than President Obama?
ReplyDeleteExactly!
I love President Obama. We're all very fortunate that he's a our president. The GOP/TP don't know it, but they're very lucky that there were more of us than there were of them.
ReplyDeleteAmerican Jobs Act by the Numbers: 150
ReplyDeleteThis morning, President Obama kicked off the American Jobs Act Bus Tour at Asheville Regional Airport to talk to communities about the pieces of the American Jobs Act that will put more people back to work and more money in the pockets of those who are working.
Throughout the week, we'll bring you numbers from the road to highlight aspects of the jobs bill, numbers like 150 miles. The American Jobs Act includes an immediate investment in employing construction workers to restore 150 miles of runway at American airports and put in place a next-generation air-traffic control system to reduce travel time and delays.
President Obama has made it clear that investing in infrastructure is not a partisan issue and it's time to put those in industries hit hardest by the recession back to work rebuilding America. As the President said, "now people go to Beijing Airport and they say, I wish we had an airport like that. We can't compete that way, playing for 2nd or 3rd or 4th or 8th or 15th place."
There is no reason the world’s newest airports can’t be built in the United States by American workers and the American Jobs Act will help make that possible.
Creating jobs by rebuilding America's runways, railways and roads makes sense to groups like the American Public Transportation Association (APTA). In APTA President William Millar's own words, "The $50 billion in direct funding proposed in the American Jobs Act will go a long way to jump start needed transportation investments...for every $1 invested in public transportation, $4 is generated in economic returns."
Improving airports by restoring 150 miles of runways and investing in transportation infrastructure to keep America competitive in the 21st century is just one of the reasons why President Obama is calling on Congress to pass pieces of the American Jobs Act right away. CNN poll: Americans overwhelmingly support policies in Obama jobs bill

Ed Schultz had the "bikini" chart up, showing how President Obama dug us out of the hole and we've now had 19 contiguous months of job growth. No small feat considering the obstuction, obfuscation, and do nothing at any cost tactics of Orange Man and Congress.
ReplyDeleteThis post just puctuates and highlights the hard work and smarts President Obama has shown. He's positioning himself strategically while turning the tide.
And, yes, I've never been more impressed nor experienced a Leader even close to President Obama since Clinton left office. (Loosely trasnlated, "The blunder years" of the Bush Regime are over).
Yes, I love President Obama and so appreciate the kind of man he is.
ReplyDeleteI detest the majority of Republicans we see out there - many in Congress especially.
I've been talking w/many friends and they are going to vote for President Obama AGAIN!!! Yea!!!
The Republicans have been so horribly hateful and it is going to come back to bite them!
Mac: Hooray!!
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how much this president has been able to accomplish in the face of such obstruction and blatant hate from the GOP. The country's problems were monumental, and PO has soldiered on -- month in and month out with class, integrity and humility. He's an exceptional leader for our difficult times. Just what America needs right now.
ReplyDeleteIts hard not to get angry when reading about how the unemployment numbers could make or break Obama's chances at a second term.
ReplyDeleteIs there really ANYONE so completely out of touch and utterly stupid not to be able to see how the Republicans are doing everything possible to keep Americans out of work?
Voting against programs they once dreamed up, just because Obama is "for" them, is pathetic, and drives home just how this sabotage of the economy is nothing less than an act of treason.
All we can hope for is that even the dittoheads attached by the lips to Rush Limbaugh's fat rear end, have their eyes open just far enough to see the obvious...and come around--wanting to join the protests going on, worldwide, against the ruling class who tricked them into believing only what would benefit THEMSELVES.
