How President Obama is seen Down Under.

Here is how various Australian publications covered the President's visit to their shores.

Could you even imagine ANY of the current crop of Republican hopefuls being received by other nations in such a way? Or representing our country with such warmth?

There is much more to the job of President then protecting our shores, and fixing the economy.  There is also standing before the people of the world as the living embodiment of America. And this President does an outstanding job at that.

Though there are many who simply DO NOT appreciate that.

Today the Right Wing smear machine tried to take an innocent remark by the President and use it to smear him:

Republican presidential candidates Rick Perry and Mitt Romney both claim President Obama said that "Americans are lazy." He didn't. To the contrary, Obama has consistently and repeatedly praised American workers as the "most productive in the world," a bit of boosterism he has repeated dozens of times. His recent words — "we've been a little bit lazy, I think, over the last couple of decades" — actually referred to collective efforts to promote foreign investment in the U.S., and not to American workers or voters as individuals. Perry and Romney simply rip those words out of their context in order to mislead.

That is the best they have to work with, these right wingers, to take a comment out of context and purposefully misrepresent it in an attempt to paint an inaccurate, and ugly picture of our Commander-in-Chief.

Sort of smacks of desperation doesn't it?

But you know, who can blame them for panicking a little?  Just take another look at those pictures up above.  Would YOU want to run against that guy?

  1. Thanks for posting these newspaper layouts. A couple of your commenters on the previous Australian post mentioned that Julia Gilland's popularity *increased* by being seen with our POTUS.

Why don't our media cover this simple fact? Why do they insist on promoting the "fact" that Obama is aloof and doesn't connect with people. This is so subjective, and should not be considered "news" or "analysis." It's just not helpful. (Your sweetheart Alex Wagner said this recently on Hardball.)

The MSM claims that the American public is not interested in foreign news. But I think if they devoted some energy in presenting foreign news (besides war, death, bleeding, etc.) in a compelling and interesting manner, people would change their viewing habits. After all, isn't The Amazing Race a big hit? (I don't watch much TV; it might not be a hit.)

I'm tired of MSM's excuses. They're just not very creative and like jumping on whatever bandwagon is popular this week.

Wow. Seeing the contrast of things like this just makes me think: "what the hell is wrong with us?" Seriously, how did we end up so far down the path of negativity anger and hate?

Even pro-Obama outlets in the US wouldn't be so boldly warm and open in their praise. To generalize; it's like we've allowed ourselves as a nation to be programmed to be self-conscious about positive things and viciously open and outspoken about negative things.

Our news, entertainment and leadership is all about nothing but conflict.

We so empower and glorify aggressive arrogant assholes and psychopaths in this society, not only to our own detriment, but to the entire world's.

If it were up to me, I'd make everyone start their day by listening to these timeless sage words of ultimate wisdom from the mouth of a comedian:

It's like on the Palin slobber sites, whenever you criticize her current inane sound bite, the best they can come up with his candidate Obama's '57 states.' Over and over again. She's using gun references after a shooting, and they can only go after the President for something said in 2008. They really are desperate. I, too, think that he is a wonderful leader...I do not agree with the drones and some other things, but overall, the man is a breath of fresh air.

I have never seen a President hugged more by children than Obama. He is a good man and leader. BTW, my good friend who is a Republican said she'll be voting for Obama because with him she knows what she is getting. She is embarrassed to call herself a Republican because of all the clowns in the party. She is a moderate Republican and has no tolerance for teabaggers.

I know there are a frighteningly large number of people who get their "news" from the Fox channel...but there HAS to be even more who are exposed to such things as Jon Stewart's Daily Show, Bill Maher's Real Time, Leno/Letterman/and other late nighters.

THANKFULLY, its there that you get to see VIDEOTAPED segments that show what downright LIARS each of the Republican politicians are.

I'm sure that one such bit will show Obama saying what he did say, in full, and then Romney baldfaced lying about it, spliced together so there's no doubt.

I've seen COUNTLESS examples of this, especially about Romney saying one thing ONE day, and the opposite the next.

So, SOME of the people can be fooled ALL of the time, but as time goes by, their numbers just HAVE to be shrinking.

(Or else we are totally screwed--because whenever I see something from Fox, so obviously full of hatred and racism and corporate propaganda of benefit only to the super rich, it is scary to think of how many easily conned people, are accepting such crap as TRUE.)

President Obama has done an amazing job rescuing and rehabilitating America's reputation in the world after 8 years of GWB's toxic governance.

    Obama 2012.

My Australian neice and her husband, both reporters, are estatic to see President Obama in person. They describe him as classy, intelligent and are not suprised to see the reception from the Aussies. They said people have been very excited for his visit.

This is why the GOP tries so hard to diminish him, instead the world see them as small wee people.

Our media is more concerned with the inane comments of Sarah Palin and the Kadashians. We learn nothing from them.

President Obama is pure class. And, a reasonable man leading in extremely unreasonable times. Not an easy lift, I would imagine.

  15. The President's personal warmth, decency, dignity have earned goodwill in the world community that Bush squandered after 9/11. He brings honor to the White House, and to the US, aka us.

Let's see.... no post about Sarah today so the trolls are going to have to turn a President Obama post into a Sarah Palin post. Come on bots, I know you can do it.

  18. I'd like to see some facts and figures regarding ownership of all these U.S. newspapers. If that came to light, I think we would see that the right wing/one percent would be strongly represented as having control of the media. I imagine they have been collecting those little baubles for years beneath the radar, and now look what we've got!

It's independent bloggers and newspapers that get the real stories out. We can only hope the current politics and our national crisis gives birth to more of them.

  19. The right-wing lie machine being held together with old barb-wire and bean cans is withering and melting under the pressure of trying to exist in the 21st century as an 18th century construct... it's finished as an integral part of global society... Whining to a Cluster-Fox propaganda chanter will put you further and further down in the swill pit of global hate and ultimately - grind you into dust...

Buh..bye... Ailes, Murdoch and all your swill merchants.. History will NOT be kind to you.

I follow quite a few foreign press outlets, mostly from Eastern Europe, and the UK, and it's clear that President Obama has the support of many leaders of the free world. He's a citizen of the world. RAI, the italian television station actually does stories about Obama's visits in other countries.
For awhile, like maybe twenty minutes, they reported on McCain/Palin, but it's been crickets chirping, with the rare exception (twice monthly) when McCain attacks the President, and they correct his insane ramblings, attributing them to "Sour Grapes" or the "ravages of old age".

It's a shame the MSM here doesn't realize what a great leader we have.
