The crowd screamed and waved flags around them.
Both women, ages 22 and 23 respectively, are fire controlmen in the Navy.
They met at training school and have been dating for two years.
Navy officials said it was the first time on record that a same-sex couple was chosen to kiss first upon a ship's return.
Sailors and their loved ones bought $1 raffle tickets for the opportunity. Gaeta said she bought $50 of tickets.
That is very sweet, and way past due.
As a liberal I would be just as cool with the traditional first kiss being between two men, but as a heterosexual male I have to admit that's kind of hot.
Here is video of the interview right after the kiss with Petty Officer Marissa Gaeta and her girlfriend.
Waiting for Norfolk, Va police to now arrest them.
ReplyDeleteHave to believe this backward state has some law they must have broke.
Hello sailor!
ReplyDeleteThey are gorgeous, both of them!
ReplyDeleteI read in the local paper today about several heads exploding mysteriously up in Michelle's 6th District. The only thing that's weird is it happened shortly after this photo went onto the internet. Correlation?
ReplyDeleteGood for them and glad to see they are as excited to see each other again as hetereo couples.
Quite a nice way to celebrate two years of having to be in the closet.
ReplyDeleteBravo Zulu, ladies!
For those who don't know and interested in more "science" based... One out of one thousand babies born, have both male and female genitalia. Parents "decide" and the doctor fixes. However, the child grows up with hormones and inner workings of conflict. And often decide to be the opposite. -also - in my opinion - There are probably just as many babies born who don't have the external gender situation, but the hormonal/cellular structure to be the opposite sex. - For the most part, people do not "choose" to be "gay". It is biological.
ReplyDeleteI have never been able to figure out why straight men find a couple of lesbians making out to be so hot. Would love an explanation.
ReplyDeleteThis just makes me so happy! And I'm a straight female. To see the expression of love and the respect that is being given to this couple is just fabulous!
ReplyDeleteHow did people react to a lesbian first kiss?
ReplyDeleteThe crowd that had gathered to greet their own loved ones cheered and waved flags at the kissing couple. But neither the Navy nor the couple tried to draw attention to the kiss — the media on the scene only found out right before the kiss that the designated couple was made up of two women. The crew of the USS Oak Hill reacted positively to Gaeta winning the coveted first kiss honors, too, says its commanding officer, David Bauer. "It's going to happen and the crew's going to enjoy it," he said before the kiss. "We're going to move on and it won't overshadow the great things that this crew has accomplished over the past three months." Don't expect this to be the last same-sex homecoming kiss, says Gaeta. "I think that it's something that is going to open a lot of doors, for not just our relationship, but all the other gay and lesbian relationships that are in the military now."

The comments are BRUTAL! Here's a couple of my favorites...
"That COTTON CANDY SWIRL on top of your head is wound a little to tight Donald"
and this one...
"Um...is that dead beaver a little to tight on your head?"
and finally this one...
"This guy is insane. We hate him. Nothing was more entertaining for us than when Obama delivered the smack down on him and all he could do was stick that lower lip out further and further."
LMAO X's 100!
Nice . . . .
ReplyDelete1. Note the ¨water wings¨ on the lady in uniform. She is warfare qualified. No small feat. Those are not given away like gold stars. No doubt the Chiefs in khaki put her through the meat grinder during the oral boards (as they should).
ReplyDelete2. I think both are babes. No violation of women´s rights intended.
3. On the decision to allow this to be the first traditional kiss: Bravo Zulu!
4. May both always have fair winds and following seas.
hi Anonymous @ 7:57 am.
ReplyDeleteWhy do hetero men find lesbians kissing so attractive?
I could say it's vicarious enjoyment, with a little Siracha thrown in
One could opine that since we love women, that we can taste that kiss, since we've known many like it.
But truthfully, it's probably the idea that just possibly they might enjoy the fabled "three-some" with us, in spite of their proclivity for their own sex
Double your pleasure about covers it, I suppose
The heart knows what it wants.
ReplyDeleteAbout time.

a) I don't think they care whether the two women are lesbians or not. The key part is two women making out.
b) I have gathered that it is even better if they are twins.
Like anonymous said, Guys, why?
This week Rick Perry told a 14-year-old openly bisexual girl who questioned him after a town hall in Decorah, Iowa, that he doesn't believe gays should serve openly in the military because "homosexuality is a sin." I sure hope young Rebecca Green saw the iconic image days later of two female Navy petty officers, Marissa Gaeta And Citlalic Snell, sharing the first same-sex kiss at ship's return. Because that sweet and wonderful photo is the future. And Rick Perry is the ugly and wretched past that we can hopefully move on from after this hideous GOP primary campaign.
ReplyDeleteA presidential candidate telling a teen she is damned to hell because of her sexual orientation is heartless enough. But in an atmosphere of reports almost every week of gay teens committing suicide because of the condemnation and rejection they experience it is downright diabolical. How cold-blooded and ruthless is this guy?
In the same week, Michele Bachmann and husband Marcus rejected the Kinsey Reports when a woman asked them if they realized that "2.8 percent" of their 28 children and foster children are likely gay. I generally don't think it's fair to drag political candidates' kids into any discussion of their views ( though Bachmann drags her children into the spotlight at just about every debate).
But I do think it's not only fair but completely appropriate to remind all parents -- including presidential candidates -- that their kids might be gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender. In fact, I think we have a responsibility to do so. Again, in a climate in which teens are committing suicide because of attacks on their sexual orientation or gender identity, they are all our kids.

FWIW these two people happen to be women who self idenify as lesbians, women who love other women, not hermaphrodites, transgendered, or transvestite. You're painting these issues with a broad brush.
There's a lot more "Science" involved in "Gender Reassignment", and having the "plumbing" changed or not have very little to do with sex or gender. One can live a full life as a male with female anatomy, and visa versa, hormone therapy, family therapy, and love. There's a lot more to the issue than "choosing". I do agree, however, people are born the way they are and have no "choice" in the matter.
I wonder what science has to say about where "man boobs" come from.
As a woman, I never understood the heterosexual male arousal over girl on girl affection/sex. I've seen men kiss men, and it doesn't bother me no arouse me at all.
ReplyDeleteI'm so proud of these young ladies! The kiss was tastefully done, classy, and meaningful. There's no doubt they're in love, and the world could use more lovers.
It's a great time to be alive!
