Why couldn't MY 8th grade science teacher be this cool?

Yes that was an actual 8th grade science teacher, singing about overpopulation, animal extinction, and pollution.  Did you ever think you would be tapping your foot and singing along with a song about protecting the earth?

How cool is that?

The coolest thing my 8th grade science teacher did was to set his sleeve on fire with the Bunsen burner.

If you the check comments under this video you will see that a number of them are from Beth Vernon's current and past student, who are EXTREMELY supportive of their teacher.

I absolutely love to see teachers inspiring their students in new and creative ways.

I think Beth Vernon has that down to a science.

Did you see what I did there?

AWWWWW I miss middle school. In 8th grade science we learned how to make bombs (thanks to the best intern ever) and build fast race cars. lol

    My teacher was pretty awesome.

Great video, I love her voice. She seems as though she would be a wonderful teacher. I had the fortune of having at least 10 great teachers over my school career.

Thanks for sharing this. I always find interesting things on your blog.

She is going to be fired. That stuff isn't on the standard tests.

What a cool teacher. Wouldn't we all have loed to have one like that? I hope I did some good when I taught school. I have reconnected with some old students on Facebook. This woman is multitalented and she really cares.

You also might enjoy my daughter's high school History teacher performing the "French Revolution" using Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance".

And fifty two others of her lesson supplement YouTube vids as well.
    Awesome teacher!

Wow that was great! Thx 4 sharing it Gryphen. I will share that with my son's science teacher. And thanks Deebee - I loved the "French Revolution" Lady Gaga educational parody! These remind me of the school house rock videos I grew up on - I remember I had to sing the Preamble when it was my turn to demonstrate that I had memorized it in elementary school.

Gryph and deebee - Thanks so much for highlighting great teachers. Music Therapy shows it works (remember Gabby Gifford's Rehabilitation?) Applying it to school makes sense. We just had the usual "roygbiv for the colors of the rainbow" and other little study reminders.
These teachers deserve a lot of credit for thinking outside the box, and how lucky their students are to have them.

This is Beth Vernon...thank you all for your kind comments. It has really not been easy to be so "out of the box"--I am lucky that I started doing this at a time BEFORE people were so obsessed with testing and STANDARDIZING teaching. I'm sad that more young people don't feel "permission" to reach their kids in this way. You know the brain can erase a whole year's worth of class lessons like it never happened or remember a single moment forever. What we connect with EMOTIONALLY matters! And most of us are wired for music. :-)

Here is a link to one of my favorite songs. Thank you guys for caring and for listening! <3 Beth
