Obama campaign sets up Truth Team to battle against GOP misinformation and lies.

I have taken enough of the scurrilous GOP attacks. It is time to fight back!
Courtesy of The Oval:

The overall website -- BarackObama.com/TruthTeam -- includes three specialty websites: KeepingHisWord.com (devoted to Obama's record), KeepingGOPHonest.com (attacking Republicans), and AttackWatch.com (responding to critical GOP ads).

"The sites also contain tools for sharing materials via Facebook, Twitter and e-mail, and empowers supporters to take further action by volunteering, writing letters to the editor, sending postcards to undecided voters with information about the president's record, and more," said the Obama announcement.

As you know I, and many others, have been warning people that this is going to possibly be one of the ugliest presidential campaigns in history, ESPECIALLY if Romney is the candidate.

Mittens is a vicious little prick, and with the backing of SuperPAC's and the GOP machine, there will be multiple millions of dollars spent on negative advertisements.  And let's face it, the Republicans have NO problem with lying right to the voter's faces in order to trash this President.

Here is the e-mail sent out by Obama campaign manager Stephanie Cutter to supporters:

If we've learned anything from the Republican primaries, it's that this is no ordinary election.

The GOP candidates are spending a huge amount of time attacking President Obama -- no surprise. But instead of basing their attacks on our differences of opinion, they've chosen to run on claims about his record that just aren't true.

Mitt Romney says that, despite 23 consecutive months of job growth under the president's watch, he's made the recession "worse." Rick Santorum says that the Affordable Care Act, which was based in part on Republican proposals and provides millions of Americans with access to affordable, private health insurance, is a government takeover of health care. They're not acting alone: With the newfound power of outside groups, these lies can be instantly amplified with millions of dollars in special-interest ad spending.

If the other guys are going to run a campaign based on misrepresenting the president's record -- and their own -- we have two options: sit back and let these lies go unchallenged, or fight back with the truth.

We're fighting back. Today we're introducing a new resource for grassroots supporters who want to make sure that when voters go to the polls in November, they know the truth -- and you should be a part of it.

Will you sign up to be a member of the Truth Team? [Links to: http://www.barackobama.com/truth-team

The website has three sections to reflect the team's goals: Keeping his word, where we'll communicate about President Obama's record and promises kept; Attack Watch, to fight back against false attacks on the President; and Keeping GOP Honest, where we'll debunk the Republicans' false claims about their own records.

In short, it's the grassroots communications team of the Obama 2012 campaign. We'll provide resources for you to learn everything you need to know and tools to help you share it with undecided voters in your life.

Communicating about the president's record -- and that of our opponents -- is what I do full-time. But people don't just want to hear from campaign statements or ads -- they want to hear from the family and friends they trust.

The president needs folks on board to roll up their sleeves, stand with him, and get the truth out all over the country.

So the next time you hear Mitt Romney accusing the President of "crony capitalism" or someone asking, "What has President Obama really accomplished?" you'll know what to do.

If you're ready to fight lies with the truth, sign up now: http://www.barackobama.com/truth-team

Thanks,

Stephanie Stephanie Cutter
Deputy Campaign Manager Obama for America

Now personally I will probably not officially join this team, mostly because I am not much of a joiner, but also because I am already doing much of what they are asking that people do for them.

So I will continue to reveal the GOP lies and trumpet the President's achievements just like I have. Not because  they asked me, but because it is the right thing to do.

However I would certainly urge as many of you to sign as possible.

I know from past experience what a great group of researchers and bullshit detectors we have here at IM, and I am sure that the President could use that very valuable assistance as well.

Remember we are fighting for our children, our President, and the future of this country. And none of that, in my opinion, is hyperbole.

I so happy President Obama is going to do this. Immediate reponses will be the key. I dread all the crap we are going to see in this upcoming election.

It will make people angry though and get them to the polls. Next is making sure the voting is done correctly and accurately.

What a friggin mess we have in the United States of America. It makes me sick!

Go President Obama! Americans love you and think you are doing one hell of a job in spite of those Republican assholes.

THIS is really, really important to be aware of as we go forward in this election. It will be the clincher:

Keep Your Eye On The Ball: 2012 Will Be A Long Fight To Reelect Obama

...Lest we forget, the Republicans have been plenty busy since Obama became president in 2008, and a large part of what has been occupying their time has been rigging the election of 2012. Determined that Obama cannot be allowed to return to office no matter what the cost of defeating him might be, Republicans have been busy setting the stage – or preparing to blow up the stage – using two key explosives; voter disenfranchisement and SuperPACs. According to the Brennan Center for Justice:

3.2 million voters could be hampered from voting due to the new photo id laws in certain states
As many as 240,000 voters could be deterred by laws requiring proof of citizenship
Between one and two million voters could lose out on chances to vote due to new laws that shorten early voting periods

Realizing what a key part non-white folks and young folks played in Obama’s victory, especially those thousands upon thousands who had not previously been registered voters, the Republicans have made significant inroads in a number of states passing laws making it much more difficult not only to register to vote, but also to make it more inconvenient and more of a hassle proving you’re eligible to vote once you show up at the polls. That, in a nutshell, is the disenfranchisement part of it. The Super PACs now weigh in, thanks to the disastrous Citizens United decision of the United States Supreme Court in 2010, by placing the iron thumb of corporate wealth on the campaign donations scale, effectively throwing any resemblance of fairness in the electoral system overboard and offering corporations their best opportunity yet to band together and purchase a presidency. Which is why Obama is now being forced to backtrack his opposition to Super PACs and take the politically risky but financially essential and realistic decision to support a Super PAC for Democrats....

This should scare the Republicans and force them to counter what is being said that should directly hurt the Republicans. If they're not careful with their message fighting back they could easily cause further damage to themselves.

The gooptardians are going to employ EVERY single deceitful tactic they know. Remember shrub's second term election? 2012 is going to make that look like the summer of love. Hell, the damn congressional teatards started right after President Obama's innaguration by obstructing and threatening filibuster more frequently than Vanna White flips a letter. Remember mcconnel's #1 priority to defeat Obama? He freakin' OPENLY admitted it. Fuck the American people, fuck jobs, let's get that black man out of the white house.

I would strongly suggest to all of the progressives who are disillusioned with Obama to think real hard about the alternatives. And, while you're at it, take a good look at what Obama has accomplished in the face of UNPRECEDENTED gridlock, obstruction and opposition. And imagine what he'll accomplish with 4 more years without having to campaign all the time.

The likes of the koch brothers are going at the election like it's a war. They cannot allow the middle class to be empowered as that will dig into their obscene profits. I say fuck them.

You know, the fact that the President actually needs an apparatus like this is absolutely sickening. What the fuck has happened to the Fifth Estate: Journalism? Why is it that main stream journalists don't call out blatant lies? You see it on the Sunday shows, when a winger makes a statement that is provably and blatantly an outright lie, they just nod and go on to a different subject. No accountability whatsoever. In my newspaper, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (the title should give you a clue - no competition - the Journal bought the Sentinel), they simply report what one side said, and how the other side has responded. NO investigative journalism AT ALL. They are relying on Politifact (who I believe has been bought by Koch $$ now) and editorialists to do any heavy lifting at all - on the back page, and generally regarded as partisan. The true investigative journalists have become bloggers (thanks Gryph) and a few brave voices on cable - almost all preaching to the choir. They are not reaching "average voter".

Our democracy has always been dependent on the Fifth Estate to check and balance accusations and allegations, and to expose corruption. It has now been bought and paid for. It's disgusting.

  19. The media's bread-and-butter depends on a long drawn-out presidential race. The MSM are the ones who have sponsored GOP debates into the double-digits (20 or so?). They tried to start the debates last May, but had to cancel because there were no takers. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. 2008 was the first presidential election since 1968 when neither an incumbent POTUS Vice-POTUS was in the race, so it was exceptionally competitive (with compelling Dem candidates).

Americans were polled last year when they weren't paying attention (probably thinking sheesh, the election more than a year away) and the media has tried for a year to make those results meaningful. How many reasonable people think that polls taken in 2011 could possibly have anything to do with an election that even now still 9 months away?

Mitt has taken as many different positions as possible (well-lubricated weathervane, according to Huntsman) that the GOP are desperate for anyone but him. But they let the inmates run the asylum (Tea Party) after McCain's disastrous selection of Palin, which spawned unqualified grifters whose only contribution to the party was to unseat/deny qualified candidates (e.g., Sharron Angle-NV, Christine O'Donnell-DE, Joe Miller-AK). The TPers who made it into Congress did their best to tear down POTUS and Dems, but now look who has the last laugh:

    1) House GOP has caved without a fight to extending the Payroll tax cuts.
    2) Nate Silver says POTUS has a wide lead in the Midwest:
In Pew poll, Obama leads Romney 55-44 in the Midwest. He leads Santorum 53-43 there. http://bit.ly/y61sbD
    3) Fred Barnes, arch-conservative editor of the Weekly Standard now says that the odds of GOP winning the Senate this year are diminishing:
    http://www.weeklystandard.com/articles/shrinking-senate-hopes_626641.html
    4) LA Times (and others) notice that the only winner of the GOP fight is POTUS:
The Obama campaign's best asset right now: the fratricidal Republican campaign. http://lat.ms/yuoRv7

This is very concerning. I don't like the theocratic influences that are happening at the state or local level. And I find it interesting that the less educated, the more religious, the more conservative. Scares the shit out of me that this is happening in this country and it will only go faster with a Rethug at the wheel...all the more reason to reelect Obama!

This Is Why America Keeps Getting More Conservative

Even with the president’s approval rating showing signs of life and the Republicans busily bashing themselves over the head — “one is a practicing polygamist and he’s not even the Mormon,” retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor recently quipped about her party’s two frontrunners — America continues to track right, according to polling data released by the Gallup Organization last week.

Americans at this political moment are significantly more likely to identify as conservative than as liberal: Conservatives outnumber liberals by nearly two to one. Forty percent identify as conservative, 36 percent as moderate, and 21 percent liberal.

...The map above charts the ideological divide across America’s states. There are four states where conservatives make up more than half the population: Mississippi, Utah, Wyoming, and Alabama. Conservatives make up more than 40 percent in 20 more states. Liberals now outnumber conservatives in just one state, Massachusetts, and the District of Columbia.

The ongoing economic crisis only appears to have deepened conservatism's hold. America is becoming a more conservative nation, at least at the state level.

As before, conservative states are considerably more religious than liberal-leaning states. The correlation between conservative political affiliation and religion (the share of state population for which religion is an important part of daily life) has grown stronger, increasing from .63 to .70.

The correlation between religion and the increase in conservatism over the past year is also considerable. As American states become more religious, they also become more conservative...

Totally off topic, but I couldn't find a way to email this info to you. It seems as though the Maine results might not have been exactly as reported. Should we be surprised?

Actually it looks as though the vote was closer than first reported. A conservative county "Washington" that couldn't hold its caucuses because of snow won't be counted. Also it looks as though many votes from another conservative county, Waldo never got counted in the first place. http://tiny.cc/sn3su.

It seems the Maine GOP establishment did the same thing as the Iowa GOP establishment did, crowned Romney as the winner. The only difference is that Idaho said "never mind" a week or so later when it didn't matter and it looks like Maine is just pretending that some votes didn't come it and refusing to count other votes that couldn't be cast due to weather. Again the GOP party elite rules since if the Maine votes are ever counted accurately, it will be too late to matter.

If these examples represents the morals of the GOP when they are running, what would they do if they were in power??????

Looking back, I don't know if many state had the ability to negate what the legislature did around taking away voters' rights.

Maine has the People's Veto and we exercised it when the R controlled legislature passed a law that would take away the right to register to vote on election day. By a vote of about 60% Maine people said NO! We want to keep our right to register on election day which we have had for years.

As a result of that vote, the Maine R's decided to drop a measure which had been proposed to require Voter ID.

So my message is that if there is any time or process for you to overturn what the legislature has done, do it! If not make it an issue in the 2012 election.
