I am sure that MANY first couples were deeply in love, and that their love was just as strong as the Obama's love appears to be.
However I simply cannot remember a time when their adoration for each other was as obvious as it is with President and Mrs. Obama. If anybody wishes to correct that assertion please feel free to do so.
And, ONLY speaking for myself, I cannot help but feel it is this very obvious affection which humanizes Barack Obama, and most likely keeps him grounded and centered as he takes on, as I am sure we can all agree, some of the most challenging problems to ever face our young nation.
In other words this love that they share gives me hope, in a way that simply having a smart, capable man in the White House, would never quite accomplish.

DeleteThis video is charming. As a couple they speak with respect, value and regard of one another. They speak with recognition of their family members' human needs including Mrs. Robinson. It is obvious they live with integrity that everyone's needs be met. They are humble and express gratitude for the honor of living in the white house.

You can tell the President REALLY likes to break Michelle up by being a dork, or teasing her---it great! You can really feel the HEAT between these two, also, which is no small feat for any couple with two pre-teens.

With all the chat the last few days about religion...I believe the Obamas live their lives toward grace, he has such an amazing ability to see the big picture, the people of the world, the long game. I also believe this relationship with his wife and children is what the world picked up on before he was elected, why they considered him a rock star...its impossible to ignore. I adore them both and I think he feels he is the luckiest man in the world to have this woman in love with him, she is the wind beneath his wings.

You are a hopeless romantic Gryphen. It sure is quite comforting, on a personal level, to see those two love each other, but let me tell you (from a cynic European) that smartness goes a much longer way towards being a great leader, than simply being in love with one's wife.
ReplyDeleteSharon, no way his relationship with his children and wife has ever mattered to the rest of the World. In 2008 the man had charisma, he was cool, he sounded like having more than ten brain cells - which was a nice change from the Bushes and the Reagans - he seemed hard working and not a weasel, only there to enrich himself while doing nothing, and, as an added bonus, he wasn't going around promising to wage war on foreign countries.
That, in a US presidential candidate, was more than enough to make him shine as a beacon of hope to the world. I sure wish there were more politicians of his caliber around - we could use some.
And over here, we really don't care whether someone cheats on his spouse or is divorced or believes in gods or is a good parent. We're not getting married to the President, we have no interest in what he/she does with the parts between his/her legs, as long as the job ahead is well done.
Any one believe the Palins could be in as much love as the Obamas?

Our First Lady is particularly amazing. She is absolutely GORGEOUS in these photos captured at the Kid's Choice Awards. It's not hard to see why Barack is over the moon for Michelle. she radiates goodness and grace and health and charm.

Considering the stresses and problems he has to deal with every day, I think Michelle is a big part of his ability to rest, refresh himself and continue on in such a wonderful way.

I agree Gryphen. The Obama's appear to be whole and healthy individuals. They are capable of compassion and seeing the larger view. They are beautiful in many ways.
Poor Scarah, she so pales in comparison. The more they shine, the more she fades. We see his incensing competence and her increasing incompetence. His face is kind, smooth, and open while her face is harsh and creased in ugly anger.

I agree with your post and all the comments except one, which doesn't need a reply. They're clearly in love, there's no denying it. And I mean in all the ways love can be expressed between human beings, not just the mechanical way some people "measure" the expression of that love. It's mutual respect, dignity, and balanced with tenderness. And it takes a lot of work to maintain it, but it's worth it.
