New book reveals that Republicans held secret meeting deciding to obstruct EVERYTHING President Obama tried to do the DAY he was inaugurated. By a show of hands who did not already suspect that?

GOP's Anti-Obama Campaign Started Night Of Inauguration

As President Barack Obama was celebrating his inauguration at various balls, top Republican lawmakers and strategists were conjuring up ways to submarine his presidency at a private dinner in Washington.

The event -- which provides a telling revelation for how quickly the post-election climate soured -- serves as the prologue of Robert Draper's much-discussed and heavily-reported new book, "Do Not Ask What Good We Do: Inside the U.S. House of Representatives."

According to Draper, the guest list that night (which was just over 15 people in total) included Republican Reps. Eric Cantor (Va.), Kevin McCarthy (Calif.), Paul Ryan (Wis.), Pete Sessions (Texas), Jeb Hensarling (Texas), Pete Hoekstra (Mich.) and Dan Lungren (Calif.), along with Republican Sens. Jim DeMint (S.C.), Jon Kyl (Ariz.), Tom Coburn (Okla.), John Ensign (Nev.) and Bob Corker (Tenn.). The non-lawmakers present included Newt Gingrich, several years removed from his presidential campaign, and Frank Luntz, the long-time Republican wordsmith. Notably absent were Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) -- who, Draper writes, had an acrimonious relationship with Luntz.

For several hours in the Caucus Room (a high-end D.C. establishment), the book says they plotted out ways to not just win back political power, but to also put the brakes on Obama's legislative platform.

"If you act like you're the minority, you're going to stay in the minority," Draper quotes McCarthy as saying. "We've gotta challenge them on every single bill and challenge them on every single campaign."

The conversation got only more specific from there, Draper reports. Kyl suggested going after incoming Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner for failing to pay Social Security and Medicare taxes while at the International Monetary Fund. Gingrich noted that House Ways and Means Chairman Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.) had a similar tax problem. McCarthy chimed in to declare "there's a web" before arguing that Republicans could put pressure on any Democrat who accepted campaign money from Rangel to give it back.

The dinner lasted nearly four hours. They parted company almost giddily. The Republicans had agreed on a way forward:

This is not news to any one who heard a Republican say " One term President" a term used many, many times from one REPUBLICAN OR ANOTHER from day one.
All a person need do was listen to the bills or proprosals not even brought to the table. Simply, because they were Obama's suggestions.
The republican plan has been and always will be, stop, destroy, impede, bring the middle class down. Tax them, destroy their jobs, keep their children from being educated.
The middle class population who have been voting Republican, have only been aiding the destruction of themselves. Wake up America, a republican gov. is not your friend.

When Hilary talked of a right wing conspiracy while Bill Clinton was president I didn't believe it at first but eventually realized she was speaking the truth. It comes as no surprise to me that they were determined to bring President Obama down because the republicans only care about power and not what's in the best interest of the country. McCain's slogan "Country First" was a falsehood. The movie "Game Change" proved that his choice of one of the most unqualified and least vetted VP pick ever was all about winning. Thank God the voters were a lot smarter than McCain and his staff. It's all about winning and pushing the Koch Brothers' agenda for them and the hell with the poor and middle class. I really, really hate them and I really, really hate Sarah Palin...an effing fraud who cares only about herself. They are the epitome of evil.

And that's a great progressive message to get out there. Framing it in a way that's palatable to conservatives is the tough part. I've been experimenting with the website Metaphor project.

If you read much of the material on that site, you see the tactics they've been using all along. They speak and write in a way that gets right to the heart of their audience. They capture their minds that way and persuade the masses.

Just consider the source. Whenever I hear "Sarah Palin says..." regarding any matter of substance, my bullshit detector meter automatically pegs off the scale. History has proven that Palin is nothing more than a bomb-throwing provocateur who can only effectively polarize low-info groups from reality. But nowadays, she's been relegated by her GOP to providing noise and distraction by screeching her lies and rhetoric in order to provide a smokescreen for the REAL power brokers who are driving the agenda favorable to the 1%ers.

But give her credit for being consistent---she's consistently been irrelevant in the REAL political world, ever since she was immediately outed as a light-weight pretender during her little 10-week campaign in '08 alongside our soon-to-be completely senile senior senator from the great state of Arizona.

Outside of the hate-spewing blowhards of the extreme Reich wing bagger faction of the GOP, Sarah has no standing as a player in the GOP. She's just an angry, bitter person who has fallen way short of achieving her goal of being coronated Queen of Everything.

It's what I've thought all along. And I think it is treasonous behavior especially considering how close this country was to a complete economic collapse after eight years of Republican rule. Whenever I think of this perfidy I think of the Democratic Senate majority leader (maybe Mike Mansfield?) who, after Ronald Reagan was inaugurated and wanted his "trickle down" tax cuts, said that the country should try it because it was part of the voters' mandate. Of course, the "trickle down" didn't work (as the Democrats had also predicted) and even the Reagan administration backpedaled on it. Can you imagine if, in 2009, the Republicans in Congress decided that complete health care reform should be supported because it was obviously what the voters wanted? We might have universal health care now. I sincerely hope that all Republicans lose in November 2012!

What I'm shocked by is the commenters in this video speculating on the Dems "barely winning" the House and Senate. Or even losing it. I'm shocked and scared. If that happened, I think we have the fall of the Roman empire. Will it take awhile or come as an implosion, as it almost did at the end of the 2008 election?

Also, re the last post about the new Palin book, no one mentioned that this book probably had an advance, probably a way too big one (considering normal factors). Another cash transfer to the Palins by one of the 1%, one of Rupert's pals (who did the $7M cash transfer on SP's first book). Yes it helps in the business calcs that someone (perhaps SarahPac) will buy up loads of these books to give out free. But my thought is that someone thinks SP can still be useful (like in the coming election), and this advance is to pay for that. Doesn't matter if us "little people" like the book or the cover or the content or not. None of that matters. Follow the money. The big, guaranteed money. Our chatter about it merely helps with bringing it into the public eye. The one-by-one book sales are just a diversion -- keeps people busy, gets some press.

G-man -- isn't it time to give it everything you've got to expose the hoax? To help with the election. Oh please.

So glad to see you do an article on this Gryphen! Sadly, many people in America are not aware of this. Even before this, Mitch McConnell said that he would do everything he could to ensure that President Obama would never succeed as POTUS. This as when President Obama had just been elected back in November 2008!

It's the non-stop obstructionism the Rethuglicans in the House and Senate are all about that has caused the problems for our country. They absolutely have put party first, and not country. They certainly have not cared what has been happening to the middle class and poor. They try to scream and say, oh see, it's all Obama's fault. Throw the Rethuglicans bums out of the House and return it to the Democrats, then we'll see REAL hope and change that President Obama has been trying to do all along!

If anyone doubts this is true, then just look back at what happened when the Rethuglicans took over the House in the November 2010 election. What did they do first instead of working to create jobs? They attacked women's rights and health care! And they're STILL doing it! Anything that President Obama tries to do to help create jobs, and look out for the middle class, poor, seniors, young people and women they oppose. It's amazing that more people have not realized this! They absolutely REFUSE to work together in a bi-partisan manner so ALL Americans can prosper!! Vote those despicable obstructionists out so we can really get our country back on track! They've caused enough damage already, and don't deserve to be sent back to DC, as they are not representing ALL Americans!

Of course we all saw this treasonous behavior, peppered with a dose of racism, and calls from the peanut gallery of "You Lie", and who can forget The Supreme Court ruling that Corporations are People?

We've got to have President Obama's back, because he has ours. Let them stew in their own juices, It's up to us to get it done. Hopefully give Pelosi her "girl hammer" back and put the tan man in the unemployment line. A democratic majority in the Senate as well.
