You know it is a good goddamn thing I am not part of the White House Pres Corps because I would have knocked that disrespectful son-of-a-bitch right on his chubby intolerant ass!
Neal Munro, embarrassing journalists all over the world. |
“I always go to the White House prepared with questions for our president. I timed the question believing the president was closing his remarks, because naturally I have no intention of interrupting the President of the United States. I know he rarely takes questions before walking away from the podium. When I asked the question as he finished his speech, he turned his back on the many reporters, and walked away while I and at least one other reporter asked questions.”
Yeah bullshit! It was clear to anybody paying attention that the President was not yet finished, and if you noticed NO OTHER reporters seemed confused about that. Besides Munro attempted to argue with the President, not once, but twice. THAT is not the act of a "professional" reporter.
Joan Walsh thinks that she has identified the source of the incredible disrespect that conservatives are showing this President:
I’m not one to revere the imperial presidency, but it’s unbelievable how wingnuts treat this man with such unprecedented and bullying disrespect: from Rep. Joe Wilson screaming “You lie” during Obama’s 2009 speech to a joint session of Congress, to Speaker John Boehner denying him his choice of dates for another congressional address (for the first time in history) last fall, to Donald Trump’s persistent, humiliating demands for the president to show him his papers (with no rebuke from ally Mitt Romney). And for right-wingers who insist Democrats are too quick to cry racism: Really, what else explains this constant, in-your-face (literally) contempt for a president?
Yeah, what she said.
By the way this was an important policy decision that the President was addressing, and one that CLEARLY has pissed off the Right Wing, because they KNOW protecting the children of immigrants from deportation will help the President politically and continue to paint the GOP as the party of racists and elitists.
P.S. Sorry for the increase in curse words but I literally could not type this out without using them, I was just too angry!
Update: it looks like this "reporter" is going to face some fairly serious backlash. The President of the White House Correspondents Association has already called him on the carpet:
"It was discourteous. It's not the way reporters who cover the White House conduct themselves," Caren Bohan, the current WHCA president and White House correspondent for Reuters, told POLITICO today, shortly after DC reporter Neil Munro shouted a question at the President while he was delivering remarks in the White House Rose Garden.
"The WHCA always encourages vigorous questioning of the president, but that does not extend to rude interruptions of the president in the middle of a speech," Bohan said. "I've thrown questions to the President before, but reporters typically wait until he's finished speaking."
The Daily Caller, a conservative website, is a member of the in-town White House press pool. But after today's incident many have speculated that it could lose its access to the President and to the White House.
"That is something that our board has not yet discussed," Bohan told POLITICO.
Wouldn't that be a shame if this disrespectful asshole cost his employer their access to the White House? Hardly.
Gryphen, you've seen me say it here, before ~ Some things NEED to be damned by God.
ReplyDeleteAnd may the tooth fairy condemn them to rot.
DeleteI feel sorry that our president has to put up with this; he has started no unnecessary wars, nor does he have a “showing up Daddy” complex (both GW and Mitt).
ReplyDeleteI want President Obama to stay strong, and I will help him when I can.
I second this comment.
DeleteI second this comment.
DeleteIt is really fascinating, all the open, bald-faced animosity and disrespect this President has endured. I hope I live long enough to see the documentaries that future sociologists will make, dissecting it for us.
ReplyDeleteIt seems that the asshole-American minority has finally found its voice...
These behaviors shame our country. And those engaging is such behavior consider themselves superior citizens? They've made it clear they do. It makes me ill to think about it.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm reading the outraged comments on Facebook posts all over. Yeah, I absolutely KNOW where they are coming from, and it isn't pretty.
ReplyDeleteThe "reporters" excuse is rather silly. Obama was mid sentence when he rudely interrupted him, how is continuing with a speech any indication that he had finished?
ReplyDeleteExactly. He definitely didn't finish and turn his back on the press before he yelled a question. And the reporter failed to understand he would be caught on tape showing he lied. What a jerk. I hope the blog gets pulled from the WH press corp.
Deleteplease take the d-word out of your title. it isn't any prettier than the film below it. please!
ReplyDelete"d-word"? What are you 5? This president has endured the most disgusting treatment from the right wing party of this country, HIS country, that he is the PRESIDENT of, for almost 4 years. And a comment on douchebag is all you can say?
DeleteI am truly saddened by this. It's getting worse, and now that the president wants to give fellow human beings a chance to become citizens in the country they call home, he is being vilified again.
Why? Conservatives ARE douchebags.
DeleteDon't like people calling it like it is? Go somewhere else.
DeleteSaying damn is prettier than the rude behavior of that damned faux reporter. I believe The Daily Caller is Tucker Carlson's baby, and it sure stinks of his infantile attitude. I guess he hires people just like him.
DeleteAnd, excuse me, I for one am damned-tired of putting up with the right-wing racist outrage.
I bet you must not like the V word either just like the Michigan GOP. Goodness, can't say vagina, vasectomy, or damn without offending the fake gentility of asshats.
Deletewhoa, what a vituperative bunch of responses to a simple statement. you guys need to go have a good pillow fight, and then look at the situation in perspective.
Deleteyes, the "reporter" was extremely rude and disrespectful. he was full-out wrong, and a bad guy, and all that. but gryphen doesnt' do a thing to the creep when he uses (yes) "the d-word". it reflects on gryphen.
my opinion only.
sheesh!
@7:42
DeleteWe're talking about racism and outrageous disrespect for the office of the President and for the citizens of our country and you're concerned with the word "douchebag"????
Please spare me your sanctimony. I don't have the time or inclination to care about your sensibilities.
Just.Shut.Up. All you whiners and concern trolls are beginning to REALLY BORE ME.
DeleteGood God, if you don't like the way Gryphen writes his blog entries, start your own Carrie Nation uptight chastity-belted blog.
Gryphen was polite with his "d-word" I would have called him a racist piece of shit scumbag motherfucker. Oh no did I offend you? LMFAO
DeleteI think the others who have responded here mistook the offensiveness of the word douchebag. There is the argument that it is misogynistic. Obviously Gryphen isn't misogynistic but many hate the word nevertheless.
DeleteHeck, let's just invite these Medicare scooter trolls to ride on over to a cage match.
Deletei am sorry if my "puritanism" makes you mad, but i was raised differently, and the use of the "d-word" changes the whole tone of the title. i've been reading IM for years, and i love gryphen's site, but i am allowed to take him to task, too. call me his mother if you want. i am, as 3:33 noted, repelled by the word douchebag.
Deleteand to 7:41 i would say, vagina is a part of the body. douchebag is not something i would apply to a person as a descriptive.
penis and asshole are also words, but i use them appropriately..........
This is stupid. The DEE word. Your as bad as the republicans who won't let the democratic female rep speak on the house floor because she used the VEE word!
DeleteNobody appointed anybody else the dictionary police. That is RETARDED and I don't mean the medical definition. I mean
v. re·tard·ed, re·tard·ing, re·tards. v.tr. To cause to move or proceed slowly; delay or impede. v.intr. To be delayed. n. 1. A slowing down or hindering of progress
5:02
Delete"penis and asshole are also words, but i use them appropriately.........."
I believe "douchebag" is a word also, and Gryphen used it quite appropriately.
"d"word? Really? This is more upsetting than disrespecting the President of the United States? Really?
DeletePlease excuse me...
ReplyDeleteWhat a FUCKING asshole !
The lack of respect for our president disgusts me.
Disagree with his policies but don't be a shithead.
I'm betting this jerk had his lame excuse all prepared ahead of time. He's all "aw, gee, see this president is THE problem, and I just HAD to fix that situation, because it's all about ME, ME, ME..."
ReplyDeletePresident Obama's restraint is awesome.
"Peregrine" on Joan Walsh's Salon blog article summed it up perfectly:
DeleteThere so much "Conservativism 101" in this, it's hard to know where to start:
1. Interrupt President Obama. Not just any president, but only President Obama - who is illegitimate in the eyes of most conservatives (as polls prove). Showing disrespect for President Obama (as Joe Wilson did), is the conservative way of telling President Obama he is not legitimate. He's not worthy of the respect they would show any Republican president.
2. When told of the inappropriate nature of your interruption, claim victim status. Any reasonable person knows when someone gives an address, you wait to the end to ask questions. No matter to conservatives. Just interrupt and claim victim status when you are corrected. Victim status: Another conservative staple.
3. When other media confront you about the lack of etiquette you've shown, tell them they should work in the White House. As every conservative knows, anyone who doesn't agree with them (or their rudeness to this president) is in the bag for Obama.
So there you have it folks. Conservativism 101, all rolled into one incident for failed jouranalist Tucker Carlson's rag. An illegitimate president, conservative victim status, and liberal media in the bag for Obama. All in one conservative incident. That must be a record. Well done Tucker, well done.
I'm appreciating the perhaps unintentional pun in Peregrine's final paragraph.
Were the racial tables reversed the reporter would have been completely and internationally vilified within minutes.
ReplyDeleteWe are, sadly, still a very divided nation.
And the editor in chief of the Daily Caller, Tucker Carlson, fully supports the fool. I am not surprised.
ReplyDeletehttp://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2012/06/15/obama-admonishes-rose-garden-interrupter/?hpt=hp_t1
I can't wait to see what Stewart and Colbert do with this. Stewart, famously, let Carlson and his co-host have it when they had him on their CNN show years ago.
DeleteM from MD
If I were empowered to do so, the Daily Caller would continue to have access provided they fire the dirtbag reporter Neal Munro. His excuses are just that -- excuses, and not very believable ones.
ReplyDeletePlus, should any other reporter from the same newspaper ever do the same or similar again, then I would ban the paper for the remainder of the President's term.
The disrespect the President has had to endure is just so wrong on so many levels.
Well geeeeeze didn't ya know that Obama is himself causing all this divisiveness and disrespect by being a NEGRO from Kenya? Just who does he think he is going to Harvard and being a constitutional professor/lawyer? SOME people just don't know their place! He must be an uppity elitist snob.
ReplyDelete--Tea Party Brain and Sarah Palin
I firmly believe the man should no longer have access to the President as to any questions even in the correct format!
ReplyDeleteDid anyone watch the hearings the Attorney General recently had to go through? The Republicans were horribly disrespective of him and one (from TX) actually called for his resignation! He stood up to them and said he would NOT resign!
I am so proud of our President and the AG! Both are black of course, and I suspect the majority of the Republicans in Congress to be racist and assholes!
I totally agree - it is racism.
DeleteIf you want to read a smack-down of the Senator who gets the credit for being the most disrespectful, I recommend reading the angry post by our beloved JuanitaJean. I have never liked Cornyn and reading her angry rant made me feel good.
http://juanitajean.com/2012/06/15/right-in-the-smacker/
Joe Wilson should have been carted off the floor immediately for his disrespect. Oh but no, the Rethuglicans loved it. But just wait till a Democratic woman uses the word "vagina" in a house discussion about women's health - SHE gets barred by the male GOP (who claim there is no war on women) from speaking and they don't even give her an explanation! OH wait that DID happen. Yesterday.

THEN they (the GOP) had the audacity to say the women displayed "TEMPER TANTRUMS" on the floor,
Deleteso it was their BEHAVIOR, you see,
*NOT* their words...

DeleteIf you want to be sick, turn on the stream of RightOnline and listen to Screech, complete with the Belmont girls and a three inch wide Star of David (when did she become Jewish??) bashing the media for 2008 yet again. She poopooed Todd's 'independent' voter registration, and claimed Obama registered as a Socialist. She claims Obama hung around with the leftist of the left, while ignoring the fact that Todd's pals want Alaska out of the union (wouldn't that have eben great, then Sarah woudl never have been Governor and we wouldn't be stuck with her lies for the next 20 years!) Anyway, it's nauseating.
ReplyDeleteOMY JEEBUS! I just caught the tail end of Baldy's Screech!
DeleteShe got new TIT TAY'S and they are NOT SPECTACULAR!
She was wearing her tight black Secretary skirt with some kind of dirty light brown sweater with ruffles around her freckled chest!
She's still sporting the SE Cupp glasses and the wig is her usual filthy travel wig!
She looked like an over the hill secretary from the 50's! The knockers were so big, if she bent over to pick up something...between the giant boobs and oversize wig head she would end up on the floor!
According to the patients at the Aslyum...it was a "barn burner"! I'm sure it was her usual combination of her other shitty screeches!
Did you catch her "Madam President" shoes?
Deletehttp://twitpic.com/9wvlgj
That picture is HORRENDOUS! She's a TWO FACE! Look at the picture of her in the background on the screen versus the one of her at the podium...she looks like a skeleton in a skirt at the podium and that background photo of her shows her face is a different color from her chesticle!
DeleteAgain....Baldy can't do SHIT right!
Pass the Brain Bleach!
DeleteAre those cankle braces on her feet?

No wonder the RNC had to spend $150,000 on her wardrobe. She has zero fashion sense. Her shoes scream look at my legs, look at me! Hey Dammit LOOK AT ME and my legs! They go all the way up to my falsies, LOOK AT 'EM DAMMIT! I wonder if Sarah ever actually went to church other than going to get a exorcism to cast out the devil demons performed by a black witchdoctor from Kenya what she would actually wear.
DeleteThe HOBAKS are
DeleteBack. on. da. Ho!
Also, too, how bad is that toupee?
ReplyDeleteIf a black man did this to a white President - he would be hauled away by the SS and put in jail.
ReplyDeleteIf any man did this to a GOP President - he would be instantly evicted from the area. Don't see Mitt Romney putting up with hecklers.
The apology - a white man's apology to a black person. The black man should have shut up when the white man wanted to speak. Of course it is all racist.
It is amazing how the President keeps his cool - not only does he have to put up with the carp - he loses the discussion of the MAJOR issue - because now all the press will talk about is this fool.
I was thinking about what would happen had this reporter acted like that to Cheney. I think his behind would have been indefinitely detained in some dark hole in one of those secret torture sites in Eastern Europe that Cheney and his playmate Georgie set up.
DeleteAfter all, he had the guy who told him what he thought of his policies and just touched him on the shoulder (not shoved, just touched) hauled off to jail.
Yeah, they would be waterboarding him already.
DeleteJoan Walsh is right on and we all have been saying it for years. It is racism, pure and simple and there is no excuse for it. I am so sick of this shit but I am so impressed by the tolerance and grace of our president and his wife who have had to deal with this all their lives. I am embarrassed that there is this kind of disgusting behavior to anyone in our country and the world, much less the leader of our country.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you comments.
DeleteWhat truly saddens me is that these self-righteous assholes think themselves to be patriots when they do not even know what true patriotism is - part of that is respecting the Office of the President. No liberal reporter ever treated George W. Bush like this even when he most deserved disrespect for conning us into Iraq.
I agree completely. The total meltdown of the Republican Party since the day after the election in November 2008 can have only one cause: the fact that President Obama is of mixed race. For the Republicans, the Southern strategy, born during the Nixon years, now reigns supreme. They should all don their white shrouds and hoods. All of them.
DeleteTOTALLY O/T, but CBS had a very touching Father's Day story, right here from Albuquerque:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=7411814n
THAT is one of the best feel good stories I've ever seen.
I've seen Tim on local ads for his restaurant, but I did not know his story or even know that it was his place. I'm going down to ABQ next weekend and I'll see if I can stop in.
Gryphen said: "Wouldn't that be a shame if this disrespectful asshole cost his employer their access to the White House? Hardly."
ReplyDeleteSince his employer is Mothertucker Carlson I can see where this "reporter" gets his classlessness. So I'm laughing out loud at how this has backfired on the Daily Caller! Even FOX came out against the racist asshole, Munro. Buh-bye!
Great comments on this subject! Remember, remember, the sixth of November. Democratic LANDSLIDE!!! It's payback for this, and other, disrepectful DICK-wads. And that includes Sarah Palin.
I thought it was somewhat ironic that this immigrant from Ireland was bitching about other immigrants taking away American jobs, like the one he took from an American conservative nut job.

Is there anything we can do to encourage this course of action and get the guy kicked out of there? An address for the WHCA or Ms. Bohan? A petition in the making anywhere?
ReplyDeleteI'm damned sick of the disrespect shown to our President too!
You can't Google?
DeleteGoogle away and please post the link smartass.
Delete10:33 go fuck yourself. Your comment is worthless.
DeleteSo wtf can't she Google the answer to her own simple questions!
DeleteI don't know much about Munro other than he's obviously not the sharpest knife in the drawer if he's working for a slimy outfit like the Daily Caller for a slimy boss like Tucker Carlson.
ReplyDeleteCarlson has steadily been working his way DOWN the ranks of Opinion Makers and TV Talking Heads for many years; he currently has to look UP to see the Breitbart News Organization because Carlson is just that bad.
Here's a clip from 2004 where Jon Stewart totally skewers him on Carlson's own show, CNN's Crossfire, for being such a bow-tie wearing little prick and an irrelevant blow-hard. Soon after, Carlson's show was cancelled and incidentally, he was shamed so much that he quit his bow-tie fetish.
One of my YouTube Favorites:
http://youtu.be/ru_Wn2tHNxM
Stewart's take-down on Carlson's attire is around 6:35 if you don't want to watch the entire segment. But the whole thing is worth watching if you have a few minutes.
According to one self-post of mini-mind Munro, Munro was "born Irish," or so he says. Supposedly married an American to get citizen ship. So that makes him a mail order husband.
DeleteIt is extremely difficult to observe the imbecilic bigotry(redundant) that has uncloaked itself with the election of this outstanding President. I passed on this video. I have to step away sometimes or I will start cursing like a drunken sailor. It is not good for the blood pressure.
ReplyDeleteSo disrespectful and I agree with Joan Walsh; I've never seen such disrespect for a POTUS before. This reporter ought to be fired. The photo of him with his hands in his pockets gave me a sense he's not willing to present a respectful stance as a rep of the media, in the presence of a President.

Go Geoff!
"Tonight's great for Todd and me -- now these type of events can be quite informal and still be successful. There's a Costco in Juneau, if you know what I mean. And my family is quite capable of setting out food and cleaning up afterwards."
Yeah, she cooks
1) he even looks like Carlson,
ReplyDelete2) you'll NEVER see him again at the White House.
MSN front page has jumped right in with their effort to cloud and divide further with their question of the day: "Do you think the President's decision is the right one?" Not one mention of 'what' his decision was, how many are affected, what is the qualifying criteria --- just loaded it up to manufacture a knee jerk reaction for those who don't bother to look deeper into a decision. And it all looks so 'innocent' right there on their front page. The "No, there are too many drawbacks' replies are leading heavily as the majority of those commenting have no earthly idea of what the entire program entails. Just another quick little way to foment hate and distrust of any plan that comes from the WH. This is going to be an ugly, ugly next five months.
ReplyDeleteBravo, Mr President, well played. This speech was a piece of tactical brilliance!!!
ReplyDeleteJoan Walsh is absolutely right! It's Racism and there's no way around it. I'm so proud of my President and Atty General.
Hey, Sarah- Bet you haven't seen cajones like them! HA!
"... I timed the question believing the president was closing his remarks, because naturally I have no intention of interrupting the President of the United States...."
ReplyDeleteThis little insignificant piece of garbage doesn't even care that his "excuse" makes no sense. If it was just a simple blunder, then all he had do was say "I apologize, Mr. President". This juvenile burble trying to spin his action as "reasonable" doesn't fool anyone. He's just trying to self-comfort... like a three-year-old child.
OMG!
ReplyDeleteHow dare he interupt your demigod!
Demigod? Is Uranus your home planet or just a place you like to visit?
DeleteObama ain't MY demigod, not by a long shot. He is far too much in bed with Wall Street and big business. Only reason I 'm voting for him again is because Rmoney is such a massive douchebag.

As Gina might say, "Thanks for all the help, Baldy!"
She just can't get over the fact that the press in 2008 accidentally outed her for the defensive whiney ignorant woman she is. We know there was no "gotcha," we know naming a kid doesn't mean you birthed it, and it just chaps her ass.

ReplyDeleteEd Henry of the Foxhole is only the VP of the White House Correspondents Association as if he was President of it, you could be guaranteed he wouldn't say anything.
Foxhole showed their hand once again by editing out Bill O'Reilly on his own show calling the dickhead out. Politicususa has the edited vid and the segment of Bill O calling the jerk out.
Heads up warning - I went to AmericaBlog news from the blogroll and had a bitch of a time. It continued to open pages, I'd close and attempt closing them and they'd repeat opening. May not be the same for everyone, but thought I'd give heads up warning as some may have problem. I had to 'backdoor' close down, reboot and immediately cleared cache, etc. Pain in the ass.
Will be interesting how Romney spins this as this really was President Obama at his best by very possibly co-opting Romney as this was or very similar to Rubio's Dream Act proposa;/talking points/wish list, etc.
ReplyDeleteBeing President Obama, by announcing this, you could say that he said the sky was blue. Therefore Romney's going to bend himself into a pretzel saying it's orange even though it may well have been a campaign strategy he may have had planned to use to get the Latino vote. OOPS!!!!
This racist piece of shit should be banned for life from te white house. The daily caller is nothing more than racist drudge-lite. Anyone who thinks race wasn't a factor is a stupid racist idiot. I like how President Obama owned his ass.
ReplyDeleteSo, Munro "married in" to get citizenship? Was it legal?
ReplyDeleteTired of these fucking asshole wingers and I hope he loses his WH credentials ASAP. Get with it, WHCA.
It wasn't legal then but it is now. He and his husband are very happy.
DeleteI would think that a bit of insight to Ms. Bohan about this kind of behavior, in the form of respectful emails, might help with that decision.
ReplyDeleteJust something along the lines of - "we hope you agree that this kind of disrespect and sophomoric behavior as exhibited by Mr. Munro and championed by his boss, Tucker Carlson and the Daily Caller, will not be tolerated in a free and civil society."
http://whca.net/contact.htm
Here's a sample letter for the WHCA - feel free to copy and paste:
ReplyDeleteAttention President Bohan and other officers:
Please ban Mr Neal Munro from future White House Correspondents access. His behavior yesterday was shameful - more like paparazzi chasing a celebrity. What was worse, was no apology, just a lame excuse that it was a mistake, and then the animosity and increased disrespected of his boss at the Daily Caller, Mr. Tucker Carlson. Frankly, the American people are not as stupid as both of them seem to think. And I hope the WHCA will agree that this level of disrespect towards President Obama and the office he holds will not be tolerated in a civil society.
This guy has no beef with immigration. How do I know? He IS AN IMMIGRANT! Therefore, you have conclude that The Daily Caller thug is yelling at the President because he is a RACIST. I believe The Daily Caller is owned by Tucker Carlson. That says it all.
ReplyDeleteChris Hayes pointed out that the thug had his hands in his pocket during the incident. That tells me that he was not prepared to write down any notes or answers for his question that was so important, it was necessary to interupt the President to ask. Remember, if you cluck The Daily Smaller site, you are giving them $$
The hack Tucker Carlson responded to this with a false equivalency argument that Diane Sawyer never criticized Sam Donaldson for shouting questions at prior presidents. Here is Donaldson's official smack-down of Carlson and the Teapublicans' racist hate of our President:
ReplyDelete"Never once did I interrupt a president in any way while he was making a formal statement, a speech, honoring awardees or in any other way holding the floor. Yes, almost always when he was finished in the Rose Garden or in the Briefing Room or at a photo opportunity with other world leaders I tried to question him (only rarely was it a shout on the rope line, more often a more normal tone of voice) and other reporters of course did the same thing along with me.
What this man did yesterday is something new, to me wrong and unusual. I think it is probably the result of the growing incivility of the times, the competition among reporters and news organizations to be noticed not only for the work product but for the theatrics of the gathering…and there is one more factor, let’s face it: Many on the political right believe this president ought not to be there – they oppose him not for his polices and political view but for who he is, an African American! These people and perhaps even certain news organizations (certainly the right wing talkers like Limbaugh) encourage disrespect for this president. That is both regrettable and adds, in this case, to the general dislike of the press on the part of the general public.
For Tucker Carlson to say that he would if he can give this man a raise for this rude attempt to interrupt the president is reflective of what I’ve said above and, to me, lowers my opinion of Tucker."
