Power outage update part deux.

Courtesy of  ADN:

In Northeast Anchorage, one of the hardest-hit parts of the city, cottonwoods lining a street north of Anchorage Baptist Temple looked like a giant stand of wheat mowed down by a scythe. Municipal crews chopped up birch that once sheltered the parking lot at Cheney Lake. Uprooted trees could be seen along nearly every north-south street from Chester Valley to Mountain View. Utility and city crews worked through neighborhoods, clearing hundreds of downed trees from streets and trails.

The National Weather Service recorded gusts of 88 mph at McHugh Creek and 63 mph at the Port of Anchorage. Much of the rest of the Anchorage Bowl had gusts topping out in the 60 mph range. Sensors in many of the windiest places, like the upper Hillside, lost power before the apex of the storm. Meteorologists said gusts likely reached 100 mph or more. On its Facebook page, the agency circulated one "unofficial" wind report from a resident, who said he measured gusts at 131 mph in the Glen Alps area.

"Nobody here can remember a storm this strong, this early in the season," said meteorologist Shaun Baines.

Neighborhoods were full of scenes of tree cutting and lawn clearing as winds continued to jangle wind chimes. Children, out of school, rode bicycles through the downed branches.

This is essentially MY area of town so you have some idea as to how bad it was here.

My power  was restored  about 6:00 Alaska time, but as of yet do not yet have any internet, cable, or home phone service. All of thee are tied to my bundle through GCI which has suffered a significant setback with this storm.

I am currently typing this at a local Starbucks on my little crappy laptop that I purchased for my trip to Washington D.C..

Right now I am hearing that all of my services will not be up until sometime tonight.

So please bear with me until I am completely back on my feet and I will try to get over here later today to publish your comments and provide an update.

Just FYI Alaska is NOT usually slow to recover from harsh weather conditions, but THIS one was a humdinger!

Jesse do you think Bristol is in Anchorage? She took Tripp away on a plane according to Levi, then she posts on her blog that she and Mark Ballas are rehearsing at Sonja's Dance Studio which is in Wasilla, but I bet they paid Sonja to go somewhere else in Alaska and posted that to throw the press off the trail

No, I am SURE they rehearsed at Sonja's. Mark literally came to Alaska for a few days. He arrived when Bristol and crew were out hunting and they left Monday night.

    2. As fine citizens as they are, wouldn't Baldy and Beefy be out now helping clear brush and limbs down from the storm? Maybe bringing everybody some fresh water or crunchwrap taco supremes?

They are both such selfless humanitarians. You know, both have those servant hearts and whatnot. These are facts.

    3. Anita Winecooler6:27 PM

Wow! I'm glad Mark literally came to Alaska! I was certain he'd get there figuratively, you know, to thwart the mobs of paparazzi, but coming to Alaska literally makes sense because he can "blend in".

Smart move, Mark! I literally mean that!

hey griff do you think the outage hit the compound as well? Ol Sarah hasn't been on the teevee since late last week...when she had her little meltdown, and they let her come on two friendly shows to bitch...silence since then, even though there have been some interesting and newsworthy events that she might have wanted to spew some cliches about?

      Maybe a BONG hit.

I wonder if Faux Snooz has picked up their broadcast equipment from the Palin Place or is it even worth their trouble? They might leave that shit there rather than have to deal with that fool anymore.

Glad to read Bristol and Mark are again making Bristol brand video promos with the now infamous reality tv grizzle one. Long weekends to Wasilla was so productive enhancing her work ethic dance improvement. Sounds like more monkey suits, scarves and gimmicks to distract from less dancing.

Isn't Bristol a strong independent woman now? I hope they video how she manages the office from LA haha. Will Tripp call Ballas "daddy"? The republicans waited too long to put her to the curb.

  21. Wow. Be safe.

My cousin in Grand Rapids, MN, said a recent storm there clocked in at 104 MPH, and took out over twenty of his large trees. I can’t recall anything like it from my youth; winds like that would have been inside a tornado.

Wonder if Anchortown has enforced building code in the mountains. It was enacted after the wind blew awa a house designed by the wife of a guy who wanted to build a nuclear test site at Amchitka. Early '70s

  25. Anonymous11:51 AM

Sorry to hear about the inconvenience. Hope your house is OK. It sounds like a storm of tropical strength winds blew through. High winds are, along with any kind of storm, stressful.

Gryphen, did you happen to catch a few skanky wigs blow through Anchorage from over Wasilla way?

Gryph, happy you are ok and hopefully will be functioning normally in a few hours. Here in Kenai, the winds are like 20-25mph. Supposed to diminish to 15mph by tonight; then I can empty my bathtub that is full of water to flush my toilet. lol

This has been a crazy year in our neck of the woods, A tornado touched down in New Jersey, and we got torrential rains and high winds, but it's nothing compared to what you're enduring.

Thanks for the update, I miss you but as long as you're safe, that's what matters. Just know that we'll be here when you get back and up to speed.
