Here is the President yesterday speaking in front of an estimated crowd of 15,000 supporters in Richmond, Virginia.
According to a PPP poll the President leads Romney 51 to 46 in Virginia, though of course the Fox poll still has Romney leading by two percentage points. However judging from the size of that crowd I tend to agree with PPP and Nate Silver that the President has some O-mentum in the "Old Dominion."
That is not the only place that Obama has started to put some distance between himself and his flip-flopping opponent. Currently in what is considered the focal point of this election, Ohio, Obama now leads Mitt the Twit by five points among early voters, according to a Time magazine poll.
All of this is of course great news, and I have a feeling the news will only get better.
However we still have eleven more days before this long journey comes to an end, and even after that I think we all realize that in many ways it will only be the end of one skirmish, with many more just over the horizon.
Update: Here is a graphic, that I borrowed from Andrew Sullivan, which demonstrates all of the various pathways to victory possible for President Obama in November.
As you can see it is looking pretty good.
I live in Richmond and attended this rally. A police officer said people started arriving at 6am for the 1pm speech. I went late due to work schedule. I was amongst the many turned away. It was exciting to be there and listen to Obama and the cheering crowd. It feels good to be around fellow supporters and even some respectful of the POTUS witnessing a piece of history.
ReplyDeleteWe are indeed fortunate to have President Obama running. A lesser man would have thrown in the towel by now, gone back to a normal life along with his family. The Obama's have been insulted, vilified, threatened and subjected to the worst racism any politician has faced. People with low intellect (Palin, Beck, Limbaugh) felt superior to this man, with little reason. Hopefully this time he will get more democratic members to work with, so the country really CAN move forward once the obstructionists are voted out. We had all better do what we can to make sure everyone votes, and give President Obama a chance to do what he aims to do - FORWARD.
ReplyDeleteWe have to get the President a workable and working Congress, which means we must vote out all the SOBs who want to dictate their religion of hate, and their prehistoric views of women, on everyone else. AND they care only about enhancing their wealth, and not about any sort of equality or helping others even make a living wage. This country's very soul is on the ballot...choose humanity people!
ReplyDeleteOMG. Gryphen, you DO NOT want to call the Obama enthusiasm omentum. Google is your friend.

Funny. Those guys could've used more cowbell and a little less moonshine.
DeleteColorado is going to be a nail biter, but I think they are underestimating the Latino vote.
ReplyDeleteOur house has already voted. Two for Obama!
The only way any of these scenarios will work is if everyone votes! And vote early just to be safe. :)
ReplyDeleteClearly an enthusiasm gap there.

Why Obama's Electoral Advantage is larger than appears
ReplyDeletehttp://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/10/26/1150564/-Why-Obama-s-Electoral-Advantage-is-larger-than-appears
Forget any narrative that shows Romney favored to win, because the facts show that Obama is clearly ahead in this Presidential Election, where the winner will ultimately be declared by the Electoral College. Sure it is obviously still possible for Romney to win but the odds are against it. Romney consistently still trails in too many states that he needs to take in order to have a chance. Yes Mitt Romney had a spurt of momentum after the first Presidential debate. President Obama had his own after the Democratic National Convention. Those spurts are history now, both of them. They have run their course. We are back to where we were earlier in the Summer, when Barack Obama was favored to win. Time is running out for Mitt Romney. Barring some very dramatic unexpected event, all the potential game changing moments have come and gone.

Obama hits seven states...on TV
ReplyDeleteHe just traveled to eight states across four time zones in two days. Now, President Obama will hit seven more battleground states. On TV.
The president will sit for 10 interviews on Friday at the White House -- seven with local stations, one with MTV, one with a black radio network and one with radio host Michael Smerconish of Philadelphia.
Obama has done spurts of local television during the campaign, but, like his travel on the campaign trail, this marks a significant ramping up as the race enters its final days.
The campaign did not release details about which stations in what markets scored the one-on-ones. I will post more information here as I find it.
The MTV interview will be with Sway Calloway and will air live. "During this live interview, young people across the country will hear directly from the President as he answers their questions on the issues most important to them," the campaign said in an announcement.

President Obama struck a confident tone in an interview with NBC's Brian Williams, saying that he didn't expect to lose the election to Mitt Romney and hadn't given the possibility any thought.
ReplyDelete"I intend to be president for another four years," Obama said when asked by Williams if he had at least entertained the possibility of losing.
"The truth of the matter is, in my family what we're thinking about is making sure that Malia and Sasha are doing their homework," Obama told NBC in an interview that aired Thursday on "Rock Center."
"There will be plenty of time over the next four years to consider how I can be a productive citizen in a post-presidency," Obama said.
Obama acknowledged the polls showed that the race was razor thin, but he said that this was the campaign he and his team had planned for all along.
"I think we always knew this was going to be a close race from the start," Obama said, "What we have right now is a lead that we've maintained through this campaign."

ReplyDeleteObama wins massive endorsement from ... Mormons?
ReplyDeleteWell, this must be awkward. The Salt Lake Tribune, the paper of record in Salt Lake City — which is also the city with the largest Mormon population in the country — has just gone and endorsed Barack Obama rather than fellow Mormon Mitt Romney. In an editorial, the paper praises and thanks Romney for his outstanding work in 2002, when the Olympics, organized by Romney, showed the world the city's best. But the editors say it was Romney's "shape shifting" during the nomination process, from courting the Tea Party to the GOP's far-right contingent that made them wary of the candidate. The paper calls Obama's leadership "decisive," and says he has earned a second term, whereas Romney "does not deserve a first."

Why Obama
ReplyDeleteFellow Republicans,
For decades, our politics have become increasingly polarized, as elected officials cater to the most extreme elements of their parties, and media companies work to shock, amuse and divide us. In the meantime, the problems we face grow as they are passed on to future generations.
President Obama has fought to find common ground and move our nation forward. His stimulus bill of 2009 included almost $300 billion in tax cuts. When the Bush-era tax cuts were set to expire at the end of 2010, President Obama signed compromise legislation extending them for another two years. When some Democrats demanded a single-payer health care system and then a “government option,” the President supported a moderate health care reform bill.
While we continue to debate and address many issues on which we all have strong opinions—abortion, gay rights, the relationship between church and state, to name a few—we will continue to support the President's efforts to break our government’s paralysis and meet the challenges we face as a nation.
We need President Obama to continue to unite the American majority
that wants to move forward and improve the long-term economic well-being and independence of our nation.

Romney campaigning today: blah blah Obama divided the country, Obama did nothing to stop the insolvency of Medicare, Obama offered no solutions, Obama is to blame for the gridlock in Washington failing to get a vote from either party, Obama's jobs are overseas...Obama destroyed Social Security and Medicare blah blah...(he's against gas, oil and coal too!)
ReplyDeleteRomney is not getting much crowd feedback in contrast to what I heard in Richmond. Sounds like Mitt has 10-20 people cheering to yelling Yeah.
This is moderate partisan Mitt Master of Universe.
I do not know how big the crowd

ReplyDeleteObama was here this week w/Katy Perry and had over 13,000 people there. Romney and Ryan were here the day before and they only drew 6,000. The early voting here in Vegas/Clark County is heavily favoring Obama. The lines for voting last weekend were astounding.
ReplyDeleteObama was here a month or two ago and brought over 11,000 people and it was sweltering. Since I have lived here for over eight years, and being white, I know there are lots of racist idiots here who think because you're white, you too must be skerd of the black guy.
