The size difference between last year's Hurricane Irene and this year's Frankenstorm Sandy.

Can you say "Holy Shit?"

Here is a picture that Lawrence O'Donnell tweeted of 6th Avenue in New York.

Yes you read that right, New York!

Anybody ever see the movie "28 Days Later?"

Currently all kinds of blogs and sites are going down due to the storm. It is one of the few times weather wise that I am very glad to be way up here in Alaska.

Please be safe my friends.

    1. Because Bloomberg had an erection?

As Hurricane Sandy’s gale-force winds escalated Sunday afternoon, so did something in Michael Bloomberg’s pants.

The New York City mayor appeared to have an erection during a press conference about the impending storm, Vanity Fair’s JULI WEINER (last name purely coincidental) first noted.

Did you ever see the video of the girl doing Cee Loo Green's song "Fuck You" in American sign for her final in her ASL class? I told my hubby last night I'm positive she is the same one doing sign next to bloomberg. Same hair, facial expressions. I'm positive. Go look at clip on youtube & see if I'm not right. just type in "fuck you in sign".

    What a crazy storm.

Tomorrow will expose the damage and if roads are impassable for several days, this is going to halt the capacity for many to have the energy or strength to vote. They'll be concentrating on getting power back and lives back to normal. Am trying to keep the faith.

  8. I'm just north of Boston, inland. Not much problem here, wind has lessened as has the rain. But NYC is getting it bad. Friends down there reported they were all right -- that was about 8 hours ago, they've probably lost power by now. The Battery Tunnel is flooded, the Financial district is flooded... and a crane fell off a building. There are a bunch of web cams running -- here's a good one, shows how empty the NYC streets are: http://aws1.earthcam.com/ (If that one doesn't work, Google "statue of liberty webcam" and the EarthCam one is the first one that comes up)

We're getting the beginning of the storm here in Canada just over from Buffalo. Bracing for the worst. My thoughts and prayers go out to the people now experiencing the storm. Chris Christie is furious with the mayor of Atlantic City for advising the people to stay in town when Christie mandated evacuation. Now, there's a group of people stranded in a flooded school and they can't be reached by first responders. Christie gave props to PBO for his handling of the crisis. Mitt has not a clue about what is going on.

Good luck, Canada. Most Americans think that weather stops at the border but those of us who are/were lucky enough to live close to the border with Canada know that the weather does go over the border, both ways even! We miss TVOntario and what used to be on CBC2 now that we live out of range.

Speaking of Sandy, right on cue, another raving maniac Christian supremacist comes out with the "GAYS CAUSED THE HURRICANE" rant

    http://www.alternet.org/comments/news-amp-politics/inevitable-right-wing-christian-leader-blames-hurricane-sandy-gays

According to John Mcternan, the "Muslim" President and his gay supporters are the real cause behind this natural disaster here on the East coast.

Quoting from the lunatic's website, he goes on to say:

    It appears that God gave America 21 years to repent of interfering with His prophetic plan for Israel;
(since the Perfect storm of 1991)

    (quoting from McTernan's blog)-----
"However, it has gotten worse under all the presidents and especially Obama. Obama is 100 percent behind the Muslim Brotherhood which has vowed to destroy Israel and take Jerusalem. Both candidates are pro-homosexual and are behind the homosexual agenda. America is under political judgment and the church does not know it"

    http://defendproclaimthefaith.org/blog/

How can these lunatics even function in this evil secular world of ours? Of course I escaped from the inside of a Christian cult, a Dominionist ragtag bunch of nutcases many years ago, so I'm very familiar with most of their arguments and their delusions.

I can only hope that maybe in another 500 years whatever is left of humankind can finally move beyond superstition and medieval beliefs.

  14. It's absolutely incredible here on Long Island. Trees & power lines down all over the island, streets & homes flooded and tremendous wind damage.

One of my sons is a Paramedic with the Police Department and he called me earlier to let me know he's safe. One of his calls was for a man who thought he was lighting a candle, which turned out to be a firecracker that left him with a severe hand injury and his house in flames. Tragic!

He's also gone on several rescue calls to remove people from flooded homes - that they had been ordered to evacuate earlier today and ignored the warnings. Those people make me so angry because others, like my son, now have to risk their safety to drag their sorry asses to higher ground.

Long Island is now effectively cut off from the rest of NY - all bridges & tunnels have been closed.

The big story in NYC right now is the evacuation of NYU Medical Center - a huge city hospital - because their backup generators have failed. Thousands of people have to be transported to other hospitals. Those poor people & their families must be so frightened and worried.

Thankfully, I've been lucky so far. I had a few short power outages, and from what I can see, just a section of fencing has been blown down and a few tree limbs came down. I just hope that the worst is over and everyone is safe.

One closing thought - never underestimate the power of Mother Nature!

This is truly disgusting. As Americans on the east coast are battling to stay safe (and in some cases, alive) in the midst of post-tropical cyclone Sandy, Mitt Romney can't be bothered to hold off campaigning. His campaign first told us that he's canceling events tomorrow, but then, they told us, nevermind. Oh, and this time, they are going to insult everybody's intelligence by holding events in Ohio and Wisconsin, and labeling them 'storm relief.'

Romney will attend an event in Kettering, Ohio, Tuesday morning with race car driver Richard Petty and country music artist Randy Owen. [...]

The Romney campaign did not advise what the event would entail, but a Republican source indicated attendees would be asked to bring disaster relief supplies to the event, and that Romney might give brief remarks.
Why Ohio, governor? You know, that state you used to be governor of, Massachusetts? It's in the way of the storm. That's where your campaign headquarters are. Go hold your 'storm relief' event there. But no, you're appearing in an event in Ohio, a state not impacted by this storm.

If he trashes the President at his 'relief' event, it will backfire on him. The President is being 'presidential' and people are in harms way -- add that media is pissed and calling him out for his lying Jeep ad -- so he'll get attention alright -- just not the kind he wants as they can show the video snips they want! It will turn off voters too as in a disaster, we come together.

    2. I thought Randy Owen and Meat Loaf were drying out in the county pokey. They must've made bail. Or Randy did and left Meat Loaf in there to go thru DT's.

I hope those fuckers sing again. Bad karma for those assholes plugging away with the GOP campaign. They look desperate because they are. Bad form for a man whose last official act he'll be remembered for was talking down the POTUS while Obama was trying to help folks being hammered by the storm.

Mitt, you suck. As bad as Sarah Lou, if not worse. You've decided that your legacy will be one of the biggest assholes in our country's history.

They could have some pretty nasty weather in Ohio today. Ann Romney was in our corner of northwest Lower Michigan yesterday afternoon. We've had sustained 30 mph with much higher wind gusts since early evening. Much of Michigan is under wind warnings. And there are gale warnings for both Lakes Michigan and Huron. And lots of rain in the southeastern part of the state. I think Ohio is expecting both snow and rain as part of the hurricane/northeaster combo.

Not good weather for politics. And you're right, anon at 8:05 pm, very inappropriate behavior. I watched President Obama's statement last nigh from the White House - perfect tone and substance. He looked daggers at the reporter who asked about the election at the end; his reply was that the election was next week and this is no time for election talk when lives are at stake.

I feel so much safer with President Obama around than I ever felt with George Bush as president. Imagine Romney; he's got fewer people skills than George Bush!

If Romney had an ounce of class, he'd suspend campaign activities through Halloween and would donate all the donations that came into his campaign from today and tomorrow to hurricane relief efforts. IF he had an ounce of class. But, then again, IF he had an ounce of class, he'd be a very different person, wouldn't he?

Gotta say -- Huff scored one tonight!!

They've posted on the Political page at the bottom -- "Levi Johnston Has Big Announcement".

It's the story that Levi & Sunny got married over the weekend. But on the page they've set out where you can scroll through pictures and it's called "Bristol Palin through the years". The Big Score -- the first pic that shows is from 2004 of Scarah, Brisdull, Willow & Piper holding the t-shirts "Valley Trash". Huff got something right for a change!!!

Anon 8:05 I thought Mitt was premptive calling attention to himself staging a relief rally. I agree he is smoke and mirrors so he can campaign to gain a lead over Obama.

This is an opportunity to act presidential. While they are entertained he will spew lies that Obama destroyed the auto industry.

Instead, Romney is encouraging the middle class and the poor, to donate to the Red Cross and other relief agencies.

No mention of HIM doing any donating, as it does not concern his only charity, the Mormon church.

We live in northern CT and only lost power intermittently throughout the night. Just walked around my house this morning and the only damage I could see is a window above our garage is blown in, but fortunately not broken. Reports this am of the storm reminds me that Romney is not focusing on the citizens or damage. Hitting the campaign trail today is not a wise decision.

With the scope and devestation of this storm it is inconceivable states be on their own. Romney would turn his back or just give lip service. I truly believe his value is people be responsible for self even during historical natural disasters.
