Denver ABC News affiliate learns the perils of pulling images off of the internet.

Courtesy of Raw Story:

An ABC News affiliate in Denver says that while attempting to report on the resignation of former CIA Director David Petraeus, the station mistakenly aired a photoshopped version of his mistress’ book with the raunchy title “All Up In My Snatch.”

KMGH-TV producer Deb Stanley told Raw Story that the wrong book cover had been “mistakenly picked up off the Internet” and aired during their 5 p.m. broadcast on Monday. Instead of displaying the actual book cover of Paula Broadwell’s Petraeus biography, “All In,” KMGH-TV aired the parody cover, “All Up In My Snatch.”

Oooh, now that is an unfortunate mistake to broadcast into people's homes.

That reminds of me of the problems that I have run into as a blogger assuming that an image or link is what it claims to be, and then later having to go back and fix or remove it. Of course MY excuse is that I work alone, along with my real job, and often do not have a lot of time to spare for research.

Having said that the photoshop is so obvious that you would have thought that SOMEBODY working at the news station would have picked up on it before broadcast. But nope.

I can tell you that it certainly did not escape the notice of some of the viewers, such as this gentleman.

" “Not sure at all where you got your picture of Broadwell’s book for your 5pm news cast,” one viewer wrote. “I AM sure the title is NOT ‘ALL up IN my snatch’ ‘the education of General David Patraeus’ as you showed. I believe it is simply titled “All In”. Clever photoshopping by someone – - not so clever use of sources for a news cast!”

You just know that somewhere out there is a guy with a photoshop program who is simply doubled over with laughter right now, and who has probably spent much the day emailing his friends about his sudden notoriety.

Too bad it wasn't Faux News!! It would have been 10 times more hilarious. But then again Faux News only makes "mistakes" on purpose.

  4. This is what comes of replacing trained and educated researchers with minimum wage high school grads. In fact, even a high school grad should have spotted this.

At any rate, it is a symptom of the downward spiral in quality that is a result of budget cuts.

Just look at the typos in newspapers, books and the internet. I have yet to read one novel that didn't have several spelling or grammar errors in it. Of course, publishers have eliminated the editors that used to proofread.

So true! I was helping my SIL reviewing resume's. Forget grammatical and spelling errors, People actually use fancy paper, spray perfume and use glitter pens! Dotting "i's" with hearts on their signatures, and having relatives give recommendations.
We're talking about jobs at a major corporation which require at least a four year college degree.

"...you would have thought that SOMEBODY working at the news station would have picked up on it before broadcast."

Yes. But, I am still grateful that no one at another station picked up on the turkey slaughter going on behind Sarah Palin's post-pardon news interview.

That is funny and may be more accurate than most.

Curiouser and curiouser ... Is Dianne Feinstein still going after the Petraeus trip report?

    That might be interesting.

I don't think he wants to give it up.

What about Benghazi? Can they still blame Obama?

    2. I've read elsewhere, at one of the news blogs with a timeline of the whole affair, that the Fan Daily story about Scott Broadwell is bogus. It wasn't him who wrote the NYTimes.

Well this certainly sounds very Palin-like...Patreaus and Allen getting involved with a custody dispute between Jill's sister Natalie and her ex. The parallels couldn't be more erie!

Betraeus and Alien sure can read people well. Especially those that look like hoochie mamas. Those two old clowns are a disgrace to man and womankind. So much for our CIA and military's abilities to keep us secure.

Interesting about that custody dispute. Jill Kelley's sister Natalie was NOT awarded custody of here son...

"District of Columbia Superior Court Judge Neal Kravitz found that Khawam "has extreme personal deficits in the areas of honesty and integrity." He cited false domestic violence petitions and a lack of honesty in her dealings with her family and employers."

Really interesting read! Good god, could this get anymore like the Palin's? I am starting to think this scandal may be about prostitution.

Here are a another couple of doosey's from Reuters...

The letters deepen the mystery of how two Tampa socialites developed close access to top military officials and raise questions about the specific nature of those relationships.

Jill Kelley is a "volunteer social liaison".
I think this is code for prostitution.

I know it was an honest mistake, but still, one would think a news station with "staff" would catch it before it hits the airwaves.

I think you do a fine job, Gryphen. A few mistakes here and there are nothing, especially considering your blog has been defunct for years and it's still rocking!

I have been turning the channel whenever they mention this story....it makes me so sad. I would venture to say how many senators/congressmen are faithful, the movers and shakers in DC. My guess is Obama and Biden, Harry Reid...that's about it. This incredible man and patriot is summed up by this? It is beyond not fair...he resigned because of honor and I am sorry Obama accepted it. There were no laws broken it should have been a private matter.

    1. If the affair started while he was still on active duty, laws were broken, specifically those in the UCMJ prohibiting adultery. On rare occasions, this is prosecuted via Court Martial.

Petraeus's camp maintains a dateline which places the start of the affair after his retirement. We can give him the benefit of the doubt, or we can wonder why he would not bed an attractive, probably infatuated younger woman who wrote a fawning bio of him while embedded with his unit in Afghanistan.

The bio's leading title words "All In," are subject to double entendre, no less than the word "embedded." Sharp jokes about it all over HP and Wonkettte.

I agree I don't like anything about this. However, I don't believe the story that Gen Patraeous resigned due to one affair when he was in the CIA. I don't see that his quitting has anything to do with honor. Much more is covered up here. He and his sex partner set up e-mail accounts like they were on spy duty for the US government. Brilliant or incredibly stupid? I say how could they be so cunning and ignorant. Are CIA not master spies? The head honcho and a highly educated military associate and they had no clue their trail of deception was not FOREVER on the internet?

    like phone sex...

so an obsession is a sign of mental stability now? Phone sex means it is alright to do it on the job? Phone sex is a good judgement call when you are command of International Security Assistance Force as Commander, U.S. Forces Afghanistan. It is not cheating on wife and family? We don't know about other communications between Allen and Kelley. Did they make arrangements for other officers or business associates, like what Todd Palin might arrange? There are a million more questions that need answers. So far I don't trust what Allen, Kelley, Broadwell or Patreus claim. They have disgraced our country as bad as any traitor would and to heal they need to be accountable with the entire truth and story being revealed.

Now there is a report that a nameless incompetant defense official made an incorrect statement and sent the media down a rabbit hole for days of nonsense. Meanwhile, in US war zones and climate changed US homeland, the people are insecure, inhumanly slow suffering and near death or dying.

General John R. Allen was said to have sent 20,000 to 30,000 emails to Jill Kelley over a two year period. That has been down graded to “a few hundred e-mails over a couple of years.”

    ReplyDelete
  19. Anonymous7:47 AM

It's nothing short of stunning that America's top spy is so stupid that he would use a g-mail, send e-mail to a publicly available account and think it secure enough to carry on an affair over.....that IP adresses can be traced.

The volume of e-mails would make THE most prolific writer in the world...Stephen King .....jealous...AND begs the question...if was doing his job to the best of his ability....where did he find the TIME for thousands of e-mals???

    It's not possible.

Obviously this woman is unstable, so is the woman she was threatening.

This IS a security concern and Petraeus has proved he is not qualified for his job.

Our tax money is going to support some real nut cases in high positions. All the Bush/Cheney creeps should have been purged long ago. You don't think they are instigators of war crimes? That is because we are paying a hefty price for the DoD to launch massive propaganda and public relations for some shady characters with invalid fabricated fables.

We pay a fortune to be lied to.

Do you think that expediture will be discussed during budget talks? No. It will be screamed not to cut military spending and they will never mention the part propaganda plays in creating these men who are actually made of clay.

Like the Secret Service director who did not see any systemic issues with the prostitution scandals in South America, that is how any committee will handle this current news.

She's stays very fit, works out, runs regularly. Strange story here. Broadwell graduated from West Point, was an officer in the reserves, and was getting a doctorate. Her coming unglued reminds me of Lisa Nowak, the astronaut who ruined her career over her obsession with another astronaut.

This happened because most of the newbies in the news biz these days are technicians, trained in the latest software. Very few have heavy duty editing courses and the idea of questioning a source is foreign. The first question is "Is it the right size jpg?"
