Good news for the holidays as Secretary Clinton helps negotiate Middle East cease-fire. Update!

Courtesy of NBC News:

Israel and Hamas have agreed to a cease-fire, the Egyptian foreign minister said Wednesday in a news conference, after eight days of fighting that have killed more than 140 Palestinians and five Israelis.

The cease-fire is set to start at 9 p.m. Cairo time, Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr announced alongside visiting U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

“The United States welcomes the agreement today for the cease-fire in Gaza," Clinton said, adding that Egypt's new government was exerting responsibility and leadership in the region.

"This is a critical moment for the region," she said.

In Jerusalem, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed the agreement.

I don't have a great deal of confidence in this lasting for very long, but perhaps it will keep people from dying until a more permanent agreement can be worked out.

It looks like Hillary will have really earned that rest she is looking forward if THIS is what is going to be occupying her time before she steps down from her position IF that is even still an option for her considering how delicate these negations may be.

Personally I have far more confidence in HER ability to work out a solution than I do any of the people named as her possible successor.

Up[date: Oh THIS is going to piss off a certain crazed half-term governor:

“I have to say all this was done with the firm support on the part of the leaders of the international community," Netanyahu said during the press conference. "And I would like especially to thank President Barack Obama for his unreserved support for Israel’s actions in the operation and for Israel’s right to defend itself, as well as his support for the Iron Dome systems."

Netanyahu offered similar praise for the work of U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and expressed his "appreciation" for Egypt's role in the agreement.

As has been mentioned before this is undoubtedly simply Netanyahu kissing up to Obama because he is  coming up for reelection soon, and right now I understand that Obama is substantially more popular that Bibi is right now.

Do you hear that clanging sound? You KNOW where that is coming from!

There may be the benefit this time in that Morsi, the Egyptian leader being of the Muslim brotherhood has connection to Hamas. Hamas having been part of the brotherhood or a long arm connection to them.

Morsi may be more valuable than first thought in that he wants the support $$$ from the US and may well step up and into his position as leader and bring Hamas along.

Mubarak had been involved for years trying to keep the peace but Hamas hated Mubarak. Who knows -- Morsi might be the trick as crossing our fingers, he's so far shown he's a team player and would know that he has to earn the trust of the US as he depends of mega $$$.

Not that I would want it to appear that McCain got in front of this, but Bill Clinton is very familiar with this and you need someone like him that's 'bigger' than Bibi to step on Bibi to push him to an agreement. So Clinton & Morsi might be a good team for this.

This is good news. Secretary Clinton deserves praise for this, but alas, we know she won't get it from the Republican Party/Fox News.
Gryphen: If you can, could you re-post a picture of Sarah Palin either at Kmart or the Steelman rally from last summer? The C4Pers were just so adamant that if Romney won, he should pick Palin as secretary of state.
Can you, for one moment, even imagine Palin in that position, brokering some truce in the Middle East?

She would not have got it as batshitcrazy John Bolton was a member of Romney's team and that's what he wanted.

Wow, is that woman fabulous or what!!!! I think Obama is gonna be lost without her, there cannot be any doubt she would make an outstanding president. I think it said volumes about who really cares about this country when Obama asked her to be SOS and she said yes...THEY PUT COUNTRY FIRST!! I hope she stays at a spa for a month and gets pampered to high heaven, she really needs it.
The more women in leadership roles....there won't be anymore wars and children, the elderly and education will become a priority, not power and greed.

I'm so proud of Hillary Clinton and President Obama for appointing her to the position when he was initially elected.

She'll make a wonderful president to succeed him in 2016. The Repubs have absolutely no one that could compete with her!

Take a well-deserved rest, Hillary and we'll look forward to seeing you on the campaign trail again.

    O/T

There is hope yet that Scott Walker is going down!!

Recent John Doe Bombshell that Implicates Scott Walker.

The following info is some snippets from the Politicususa post:

Kelly Rindfleisch, Walker’s Deputy Chief of Staff in his Milwaukee County Executive office, was found guilty of one count of felony misconduct and sentenced to six months in jail with three years probation. She’s the fourth person to be convicted under the John Doe investigation so far.

Walker was supposed to testify for the defense, but several days later the defense made a plea bargain.

In what may be a spin-off investigation, William Gardner, president of Wisconsin & Southern Railroad, pled guilty to felony violations for illegal campaign contributions to Walker earlier this year. Gardner had made the same “mistake” the previous year, making the failure of the Walker campaign to catch the tens of thousands of dollars in illegal contributions more suspect.

Well, Miss Quittypants must not be happy with this after her pissing and moaning on Facebook and Twitter to have her buddy publically acknowledge Barack and his administration for their efforts and support of Israel. Just sort of shoots her criticism in the foot, now doesn't it. She is such a fraud.

Netanyahu Praises Obama, U.S. For Role In Brokering Cease-Fire

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday praised the efforts of President Barack Obama for helping to broker a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas.

Netanyahu said Obama was steadfast in his support for Israel's right to defend itself, as well as in the country's Iron Dome system, an air defense system which the prime minister said successfully intercepted most of the rockets aimed at the country from Gaza. He added that Obama pledged to help Israel prevent the smuggling of arms to terrorist groups — "the vast majority of which," according to Netanyahu, come from Iran.

Netanyahu needs to say that about Obama in that his election is in January.

Bibi is a liar and is saying this for 'appearance' but he has to play the part until the election.

Give thought -- he's a long time 'pal' of Romney. That says it all.

So, McCain and his girlfriend, Lindsay Graham, issue a statement that doesn't include any mention of the White House? Unbelievable. Well, not really.
Now Sarah Palin can 'issue' a statement on her Facebook page parroting McCain's and not thanking the White House for its role in truce negotiations. Remember her thanking George W. Bush for getting bin Laden??
I think she waits and takes her cue from McCain. If McCain is agin it', so's Sarah..If he's fer it, so's Sarah..

Hillary has done a stellar job! I know it may not hold, but she deserves the credit from all involved. She's serving the President and her country well. I also hope she stays on for awhile, though I have all the confidence that Susan Rice would make a great SOS, having Hillary on for awhile longer would make mediation more easier.

    OT

Susan Rice responds to GOP (John and Lindsey Graham-McCain) regarding Benghazi statement:
