The best reporting on the Republican attacks on Susan Rice is being done by Rachel Maddow. Don't take my word for it, watch it for yourself.

I do have to do a mea culpa. Yesterday I posted another video of Rachel's show dealing with this issue, in whihc I said the following:

I had already been convinced that this desire to get their hands on John Kerry's Senate seat had to be the underlying reason for this bizarre fake outrage over the talking points that Susan Rice shared on those Sunday morning news shows right after the Benghazi attacks.

Which is true, except at the time I wrote that I could not exactly rememeber where I FIRST heard of this explanation for the Republican's bizarre fixation on this seemingly inconsequential flub by Susan Rice.

Somebody in the comments section, then reminded me that Lawrence O'Donnell had been one of the first, if not THE first, people to put two and two together.  That is of course absolutely correct, and once my memory was jogged I have to admit it was indeed on the "Last Word" that I was fist made aware of this blatant political gamesmanship.

So huge hat tip to LD, for seeing through the BS yet again. Lawrence has an uncanny gift for seeing through the obfuscation better than just about anyone in the business, AND unlike some of the more reserved MSNBC hosts he never holds back from calling people out.

However having said that I STILL think that Rachel is knocking out of the park right now, and she remains my go to person on this issue.

I hope Pres. Obama does not nominate Kerry.

It still doesn't make sense to me. Kerry is also considered for Sec'ty or Defense. It's not SofS or nothing for Kerry. He's well qualified for both. If Obama is willing to risk the Mass sheet, he'll find something good for Kerry. If not, it doesn't matter what the Repubs do.

McCain, Ayotte, and Snow are pretty transparent. Not only dissing Rice, but promoting Kerry?? Jeez, and Leiberman is blowing it! Somebody forget to tell him the scheme?

Good for Rachel, she is the best journalist out there right now.

Someone please explain to me why Scott Brown would automatically 'get' Kerry seat? I'm not understanding something.
Oh I love me some Rachel. In a sisterly sort of way...

He wouldn't automatically get it. It would open the seat and therefor make it vulnerable to being picked up by the republicans.

And THAT would allow the Repubes to literally POUR tons of money into the state for the election!

It makes sense becuase the GOP is rabid about getting Brown back in the Senate to advacne their nefarious plans. Every vote matters. I heard someone say that Kerry does not want to leave the Senate, regardless. But I do think this is the real reason for the vilification of Rice, other than that she is female and black, of course.

But Kerry can't leave the Senate Twice. Whether he becomes SofS, or SofDefense, he only leaves the Senate once, and opens the door to Repubs & Brown. If Obama cares about protecting the seat, Kerry won't get offered anything. If he thinks Kerry is worth the risk, he'll offer him something - there are several opportunities Kerry would be well-qualified for. It's not SoS or nothing.

My favorites that I try to watch every week day are Rachel, Lawrence and Rev Sharpton. Chris has a lot of history in D.C., but he constantly talks on top of those he has on his show and it drives me nuts. I also think he has a soft heart!

I actually enjoy watching Chris. Yeah, he gets to be too chatty sometimes, interrupting and such, but I think he's the smartest pundit out there. Oh, and I really like Martin Bashir. Some think Bashir is too condescending, but I don't. He makes great points and he has a sense of humor.
If you really, really want to listen to someone who has the pulse on the problems and is humorous and enlightening, find a station (radio or TV) that carries Stephanie Miller. It's on Current TV in my area. She's on from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. It's worth it. She's great!

I agree, Stephanie Miller's show is fantastic!
My favorites include Rachel, LOD , Martin Bashir and Chris Hayes. Rachel and Larry never cease to amaze with their research.

Rachel also questioned the initial reports of the supposed un-organized attack on the Benghazi USA post. She knew there was something more to it. Brilliant woman making the connections!

Yeah, and the attack happened right before our election. Very suspicious.

Personally I have a few problems with Rice, she has significant assets invested in Keystone pipeline companies and would be very involved with that project for the government. HUGE conflict of interest unless she sold the assets.
I'd like to see Al Gore as SoS, he has the chops and knows everyone he'd have to deal with PLUS he has executive experience.

I think that, even more than the raciest or sexist aspects of the objection to Susan Rice, is the fact that Pres. Obama nominated her.

No matter who Pres. Obama nominated, the Republicans would have a hissy fit.

I think you're imagining things. Yes, sexism and racism are real things, serious issues, and need to be addressed if there.

But theres none of that in this story. If you read the article or watched the video you'd know that. Toure said what you said on msnbc and embarrassed himself, as his co workers knew better.

The problem with what you did here is that it makes it easier for bigots to get away with their bigotry because when more reasonable people step up to point out REAL sexism and racism, the bigots point to the people like you who cry wolf at almost everyone! I understand you probably just didn't think it through, but I just want to point out that it is easy accusations of such that do a disservice to the very cause you are speaking against. I hope you understand.

*i have followed this story from the interim. There have never been any things said or done to indicate Miss Rice's race or gender in any way whatsoever. As someone who is a woman like Rice it kinda irritates me...I don't need others saying its my weaker sex, or what, which is the underlying presumption you are making by coming forward and speaking for me*

Rachel, Larry and Martin Bashir are my top three faves on MSNBC. Their research and delivery are always relevant and Rachel, especially, holds a high standard of reporting facts for herself.

This chicanery led by John McCain is taking on a life of it's own, but I doubt it'll effect President Obama's decision in any way. He was wise to take it to the public and do the hashtag My2K, email campaign, and letter writing to Congress.

Yeah, Susan Rice has a vested interest in energy, but did that stop Condoleeza Rice or Darth Cheyney? I'm sure she can put that in a blind trust or divest herself of those interests when the time comes.

Lawrence has the legislative background to see through these antics by the GOPTP. He brings a profound understanding of all aspects of the tactics used. He's amazing. He's also the one who identified the fact that the fiscal "cliff" is merely a curb.

As for Rachel - she's my hero too, and has such a positive & accurate way of explaining the facts anyone can understand it clearly. It's also the reason that Republicans are scared to death of her & refuse to let her anywhere near them. No getting away with GOP talking points with her. Love them both!!
