Pope sends out Christmas message of hope. Well except for the gays who are putting "the future of mankind at stake" of course. Screw them!

Scariest Santa ever!
Courtesy of the Daily Mail:

The Pope has pressed his opposition to gay marriage today saying the future of mankind is at stake.

Pope Benedict XVI denounced what he described as people manipulating their God-given identities to suit their sexual choices - and destroying the very 'essence of the human creature' in the process.

He made the comments in his annual Christmas address to the Vatican bureaucracy, one of his most important speeches of the year.

He dedicated it this year to promoting traditional family values in the face of vocal campaigns in France, the U.S., Britain and elsewhere to legalise same-sex marriage.

In his remarks, Pope Benedict quoted the chief rabbi of France, Gilles Bernheim, in saying the campaign for granting gays the right to marry and adopt children was an 'attack' on the traditional family made up of a father, mother and children.

'People dispute the idea that they have a nature, given to them by their bodily identity, that serves as a defining element of the human being,' he said. 'They deny their nature and decide that it is not something previously given to them, but that they make it for themselves.' '

The manipulation of nature, which we deplore today where our environment is concerned, now becomes man's fundamental choice where he himself is concerned,' he said.

It was the second time in a week that Pope Benedict has taken on the question of gay marriage, which is dividing France, and which scored big electoral wins in the U.S. last month. In his recently released annual peace message, Pope Benedict said gay marriage, like abortion and euthanasia, was a threat to world peace.

Has anybody else noticed that all of these "religions of peace" always have some group, or groups, that they tell their congregants to feel free to hate on?

"You must love everybody. Well except for those assholes over there. God says you can hate them all you want!"

And by the way, how can a man who wears flowing robes and little red pumps be AGAINST homosexuals?

I mean come on!

That look doesn't scream conservative religious values, It screams Gay Pride Week!

When is the Catholic Church going to admit that its antiquated edict of not letting priests marry is partly responsible for the priests' sexual problems?
I believe that is why priests in the Catholic Church are prone (no pun intended) to molesting young boys. The priests are sexually frustrated and the young alter boys in their care are easy prey.
This whole religion thing is so sick. They worship an unproven entity. Sorry folks, but this deity doesn't exist --- never did.

… the young alter boys in their care …

FWIW, altering young boys (to preserve their singing voices) was made illegal in Italy in 1870—regardless of whether they were altar boys.

And just where in the Holy Bible (any translation, any version) does it advocate for Popes, Bishops, Priests acting as go-betweens for God? Nowhere. Not anywhere. The reason the Catholic Bible was in Latin for so long was so the Catholic believers couldn't read it and figure this out for themselves. Catholicism is BIG BUSINESS, as Mormonism is, as they all are. We need to stop letting these self-appointed God figures tell us how THEY interpret Scripture. Until the fundies totally ruin schools, people are still learning to read, and should read that big book for themselves. They will be amazed at what is NOT in there..no hate for other races, no domination of women, no adoration of any man on Earth, and no gun worship. I know, who'd have thought?

  4. I am sorta fascinated by the fact that if Hollywood were to make a movie about a 'evil' pope, they could not find a more despicable looking character than this person.

"People dispute the idea that they have a nature, given to them by their bodily identity, that serves as a defining element of the human being,"

If there is anything to that, his body identity screams that he could also serve as Satan's right-handed henchman.

Deb, I have always believed that our body image defines our personality to an extent. And I agree with the rest of your comment too.

He is a joke. All the Catholics I know who have expressed an opinion either way are just fine with same sex marriage. His own followers don't listen to him.

Of course they don't listen to him, or God. How many Christians own guns (thou shalt not kill) and cheat on their wives?

Now, how many of those are republicans?

It is interesting that His Holiness articulates the core of the 'gay marriage' reason. Folks are born gay; always have been. Every culture known has recognized, and often honored, those among them who had '... a nature, given to them by their bodily identity, that serves as a defining element of the human being,' that was profoundly different. Not bad or deformed, just different. As any of us who has grown up with a gay sibling can verify.

Wonder if he will have the intellectual honesty to grow to understand that.

Gryphen... it screams Gay Pride Week should not be the end of the last sentence.
      How about adding the standard:
"Not that there is anything wrong with it".

It is a deep closet from which that expensive attire emerged, and there are too many more to count.

    2. Vatican sources said the Pope gets his shoes from Adriano Stefanelli, a cobbler in Novara, Italy.

Spanish writer and author, Juan Manuel de Prada, wrote in the article the Pope is a "simple and sober man" and rumors saying otherwise were "stupid and banal."

"The Pope is not dressed by Prada but by Christ," he said. (Hardy-har-har!)

I don't quite understand how the Pope still wields so much political power. Any other group (religious or non) found to house so many pedophiles under its roof would have been forced to disband years ago.

Especially when one of the groups core ethics (sexual denial) is (at least partially) responsible for breeding the offenders.

I'm guessing if a McDonald's chain was discovered to have one child abuser per management team in more than a dozen stores the public would have called for all of them to be shut down.

So how does this church keep standing?

    My rant for the month...

And yet Catholics still roll like nothing wrong ever happened amongst its leaders.

Did he have anything to say about gun violence? No? Must not be an important issue. Fucking hypocrite. And, by God, no abortions OR birth control because we don't have enough unwanted children suffering in the world.

What REALLY pisses me off these days is when somebody complains about how the word 'gay' has been 'ruined' . . .

As a result of being born gay nearly 60 years ago, I've been ostracized, bullied, abused, threatened, physically attacked, rejected by family members and so-called friends, denied jobs, promotions and apartments, and fought against being stereotyped as a sissy, a pedophile, a leper, a pariah and even whatever it is that NO one wants to be ("OMG that's so gay!").

I grew up without role models, self-acceptance or self-respect but plenty of homophobia -- like when all my friends started dying from a horrifying disease but it took more than SIX YEARS after it was identified for then-President Reagan to even publicly utter the word 'AIDS' because it was a 'gay disease.'

I've never belonged or fit in, I've battled self-hatred, addictions and suicidal tendencies all my life, and I've needed a LOT therapy and mental health care just to stay alive.

My basic human rights are still being denied (I'll most likely die unmarried -- not by choice, but by LAW), there are many places on earth where I'd very likely be imprisoned or executed simply for the crime of existing, and the Pope has just vilified me and my kind yet AGAIN in his latest annual 'message of peace.'

And some ASSHOLES are pissed at ME for fucking up THEIR word . . .

The Catholic Church has changed. Once upon a time, Lent meant NO MEAT, and no special treats like candy, fat, butter, good stuff to eat. Fridays used to be meatless as well, and Catholics fasted so many hours before receiving communion. Oh my, how the "laws" have been changing. When people wanted to attend a favorite sports event on Sunday, play a round of golf or go skiing, services switches to Saturday afternoon or evening. Now, the Pope is frail, and he can't stay up until midnight to deliver one of the holiest masses of the year- the one celebrating the birth of Christ. Christ was born at midnight, yet the Pope can't hold out for two hours, and in order to be well rested for his Sunday mass, this year, he move Midnight Mass up to 10 o'clock. http://news.holidash.com/2009/12/08/pope-moves-midnight-mass-to-10/

Given that kind of history, they are a fine bunch to talk about homosexuality, especially since a number of priests have been involved in abusing children in the Church. There was no internal punishment. All that they did was reassign the priest someplace else. Whose word are you going to being, that crying little boy or our lovely priest?

Him in his white frock looks as though he's walking dead. A hateful ghost of a man.
