The Republicans in the House waste NO time in attempting to defund Planned Parenthood and granting legal rights to a cluster of cells. Wait, haven't we seen this movie before?

Courtesy of HuffPo:

House Republicans are so eager to strip federal family planning funds from Planned Parenthood that two of them have introduced identical bills to do so in the first days of the new Congress.

Tennessee Reps. Marsha Blackburn (R) and Diane Black (R) separately reintroduced a bill during the first two days of the 2013 legislative session that would prohibit Title X family planning grants from being awarded to any organization that performs abortions. The bill, first introduced by former Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) in the 112th Congress, primarily targets Planned Parenthood, which receives about $340 million a year in Title X funds for non-abortion health and family planning services. Both bills amend Pence's original bill to include exceptions for rape, incest and to protect the life of the mother.

Blackburn is Vice Chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, the committee with jurisdiction over the issue. Since she filed and circulated her bill on Thursday, the first day of the legislative session, more than a half-dozen Republicans have signed on as cosponsors and numerous anti-abortion groups have endorsed it.

Blackburn declared the bill a priority for her committee and vowed to carry on Pence's agenda. “Congressman Pence has been a champion in the fight to protect innocent human life and I hope to continue his leadership in the House,” she said in a statement. "As a woman, I believe America deserves better than abortion."

You mean like access to a better sexual education or access to preventative care such as that provided by Planned Parenthood? It is worth noting of course that the federal funds that Planned Parenthood receives ARE NOT used to perform any abortions.

And don't think this kind of draconian approach to women's health issues is only coming from Tennessee either, losing VP candidate Paul Ryan is also jumping back on to the anti-choice bandwagon.

Also from HuffPo:

Despite the deep unpopularity of fetal personhood bills in 2012, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) has again decided to cosponsor the Sanctity of Human Life Act, a bill that gives full legal rights to human zygotes from the moment of fertilization.

Ryan, who reportedly has 2016 presidential ambitions, had to de-emphasize his opposition to abortion without exceptions during the 2012 election to align his position with presidential candidate Mitt Romney. But this year, Ryan has been tapped as a keynote speaker for the anti-abortion group Susan B. Anthony List's sixth annual Campaign for Life Gala, and he is re-upping his support for the most extreme anti-abortion legislation in the country.

The personhood bill, first introduced in 2011 by Rep. Paul Broun (R-Ga.) and reintroduced by Broun last week, specifies that a "one-celled human embryo," even before it implants in the uterus to create a pregnancy, should be granted "all the legal and constitutional attributes and privileges of personhood."

Jesus the next thing you know they'll be granting full legal rights to the sperm soaked tissues under a teenager's bed.

You would think that after this last election these idiots would recognize the changing mood in this country, but it is like they only see that they are losing the mass majority of the American electorate and are choosing to double down on social issues in order to hang on to their dwindling number of conservative supporters.

Well good luck with that.

I doubt these bills will be anymore successful than they were the last time.  Though they DO serve the purpose of helping to identify to the more progressive voters who should NEVER receive their votes in upcoming elections.

Ya hear that Paul Ryan?

Yo! I can't talk right now I'm trying to make a muscle.

Wait one minute now! I must protest most vehemently the right to sperm life bill being proposed by the republicans from PA. If what they are suggesting comes to pass, Does that mean swallowing would be tantamount to murder???

When I had my own business, I had a silent partner who was an OB/GYN specialist. He once told me that the OVERWHELMING majority of pregnancies fail for a multitude of reasons. The embryo failed to attach. There was a problem with the egg/sperm combination. Hundreds of faults can occur which causes the pregnancy to abort naturally.

My question is simple: How are they going to treat women who get pregnant and then the cell doesn't attach - for whatever reason, even if completely out of her control? Are they going to prosecute her for murder? Hell, it's bad enough for the woman to have a miscarriage, let alone be prosecuted for the death of the zygote! A miscarriage is a HORRIBLE psychological event. There are a fair number of recorded instances of suicide by women who feel it was their fault, even though that was definitely NOT the case!

My first step mother had AT LEAST 3 miscarriages while married to my father. What are they going to do, throw a woman like her into jail?

Because that is the only logical extension of this crap. And they probably would select a board (staffed by their kind of fanatic) to examine her to see if SHE was doing it!

And what's the next step? FORCING women to have babies?

Oh. That's right. They want to drag females back to the stone age when they had NO rights at all.

One, it's not a pregnancy until it attaches There is absolutely NO WAY to tell if a woman has a zygote inside her before it does.
Two, collect all Kotex and tampons for examination? Funerals for the microscopic zygote-persons at that time? What about chimera twins? do we prosecute the consuming and surviving twin? (Look it up - fascinating.)
Three - there is a laundry list of foods that can cause a less than hospitable uterine environment for implantation - stress, coffee, weight - would the boss or husband who makes a woman stressed be guilty of murder? The woman who doesn't want to get pregnant but has a bc malfunction, drinks a cup of coffee, is now a murderer verified by tampon exam?

      Yep - they're using A Handmaid's Tale as a template here.

First, I will take the word of a respected doctor over someone who signs in as anonymous.

Second, I used the word pregnancy as fertilization. Sorry, but figured it would be more easily understood.

Third, your human chemistry knowledge is out of date. Chemical changes begin IMMEDIATELY upon fertilization.

Wonder when they make masturbation a c rime..I mean, all those wasted human beings, after all. And I'm certain that women could magically stop menstruation, because after all, we do sometimes eliminate an egg, even a fertilized one that has no chance at life. Surely the GOP has enough ex-soldiers to station one with every woman of child-bearing age to collect her monthly blood and check for eggs. All volunteers with guns, of course.

      Sally:
Like your idea, it sort of matches mine. Say if it was possible for these fertilized eggs(ZYgote) could live outside of the human carrier, and be presented to the ferilizer and the carrier(as their child) would they accept it? I think not.

Further confirmation that when any Bagger runs in 2014 & 2016, there is not a word out of their mouths you can believe in that Ryan has in his possession his own Etch-A-Sketch as he has flip-flopped-flipped. That 'move to the middle' -- we all know that's total bullshit. How their mother could ever be proud of their span, I have no idea as they're all freaking liars. Will say anything to win. Ryan hated the 47% before Romney, tried to play good in the sandbox, but is right back to his true self.

Marsha 'shit for brains' Blackburn says: "Congressman Pence has been a champion in the fight to protect innocent human life and I hope to continue his leadership in the House,”

Really?? That same Moron Pence who if I recall, got caught quoting the wrong percentage applicable to abortion through Planned Parenthood. He said a percentage number like it was 100% of their work.

He has a blueprint for totalitarian rule just one state away, the near martial law up in Michigan (to think it was only 2+ years ago a perfectly sane Michigan Democratic Governor had to leave office - how could those idiots vote themselves into such a fix?).

"BEREA -- A small religious school is under criminal investigation after several dozen teenage students and others volunteered over several weekends to gut a building containing asbestos, a cancer-causing agent, according to interviews and records.

Students as young as 13 who attend the Buckeye Education School spent several weekends removing asbestos-filled materials without any protective gear at the former YWCA on Smith Road in Middleburg Heights, said Cleveland Commissioner of Air Quality George Baker, who also works with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency. These dirty old men who comprise the House Republicans, no matter what their age, have their heads in the sand. This is exactly how they spent the last session having accomplished zilch by the end. Are we going there again? If so, then I say we have to vote them all out! We got re-districted to Benishek (? sp. so I'll call him "Rep. B") from Dave Camp - from one neanderthal to another in my estimation, but Rep. B only won by 2300 votes. We can get rid of him in 2014.

Quote from Sarah Palin Facebook, January 9, 2013:
I don’t know of any conservative “war on women,” but I sure have seen the left’s war on conservative women!

There is a war on women, being waged by those Republican representatives. Maybe Sarah is right, and they are liberals in disguise.

Quote from Chuck Heath Jr. Facebook, January 10, 2013:
Our nation is plagued with a fiscal gash. There's blood pouring out in every direction and instead of applying a tourniquet our government is administering blood thinners.

If we are gushing money (a terrible metaphor), it would be because those women who introduced the bills know that the Senate will never pass them. They are wasting time and money, as are the rest of the Republicans in Congress.

  14. Marsha Blackburn is just the Southern, ginger-flavored version of Michele Bachmann.

Watching those two ladies do their thing reminds me of taking my chihuahua walking on his leash around the neighborhood. He gets so excited, because he's so much bigger and stronger and tougher than any of the other dogs. He's "special". His world is the whole world, and he's sort of like a king. He does the same thing each time--- the same routine to mark HIS territory. I don't bother trying to rationalize to a 7-lb dog that he's not 6-ft tall and 240 lbs and the baddest of the bad canines in these parts. I just let him do his thing, tinkling a few drops on all of the "usual suspects" along the way: street signs, light posts, a few crepe myrtles and other bushes, trees, etc.

At least my dog notifies me whenever a squirrel is terrorizing my yard in the oak trees. I can't say that religulous thumpers like Shelley and Marsha Lou are good for a damn thing other than being pompous with their bulbous foreheads.

In my fantasy world, where things are birds and willows, the Repignicans would put some money where their mouth is. If they believe that all sex should be sacred, that sex should only happen between two committed people, then how about educating young men about the emotionally and spiritually degrading effects of porn, how to truly appreciate and honor women, that type of stuff? But NO. It's all about punishing the woman, usually some sweet young teen who believed the lies her teen boyfriend told her when he said he "loved" her (translation: wanted to fuck her and then leave her alone). How about healing the horrific psychic wounds that young men have surrounding women? Just stating my fantasy here. :)(Gryphen has that effect on me, inducing fantasies!_)
