I often call myself a "Bush Democrat" meaning that I was essentially an Independent until George W. Bush was elected, and then I decided it was time to take sides in what I saw as a war against the American people being waged by the Republican party.I KNEW before the first shot was fired that the reasons given for going into Iraq were false, and I simply could not believe that the media in this country refused to call the administration out on that.
My most constant frustration with President Obama is that he has refused to go after the people that falsified the information that got us into the Iraq War, and the politicians who supported it even though they HAD to have known, or at least suspected, the truth.
I'm not stupid. I have seen the incredibly partisan climate we currently live in, and realize that IF the President had attempted to launch an investigation, or charge the ex-President and his staff with treason, it would have split this country irreparably, and we would right now be fighting that long threatened civil war that some on the Right are itching to start.
Having said that, I for one certainly hope that at some point, with documentaries like this getting the truth out to the American people, the time may soon be right to revisit this criminal enterprise and find justice for the thousands of young Americans who died needlessly in a war that NEVER should have taken place.
I can hardly wait to watch this on Monday. Rachel is always so well researched and documented. Know it will be a splendid documentary that will make the Repubs go absolutely nuts! This is going to be fun to watch!
ReplyDeleteCheney, et al will be shown to be the frauds they are and were. Americans need to pay closer attention to their voting habits..no doubt about it. Thank God we have President Obama and VP Biden leading our country for their second term!
I hope she touches on some of the stuff Susan Lindauer has wrote about in "Extreme Predjuce" how the Iraquis were doing "backflips" to avoid war, promising to buy a million American cars a MONTH, for example!
DeleteDoes that sound like a Country that wanted war?
Bush had her LOCKED UP UNDER THE PATRIOT ACT, WITH NO CHARGES FOR 8 MOS until PBO came on a let her out.
Her book is a Bomshell!
Spot on!
ReplyDeleteAll the promises and approvals allowing the media embeds, which the media thought and believed it as now being able to wear their 'big boy pants' as it was like little boys play acting in a war game without they're having to do 'real fighting', helped buy the silence.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to this documentary.
ReplyDeleteI, too, knew before the first shot was fired that the reasons being given were bullshit. In fact, the night before Colin Powell was on TV showing us photos of those "labs" where he was so sure "weapons of mass destruction" were being made, I'd found those same photos freely available online, with a description of what they were photos of. I wish I could remember what the captions said, but they did NOT say the photos were of weapon-making facilities. The photos were part of a several page document that had nothing to do with Bush's Iraq agenda. Sure wish I'd bookmarked that page!
DeleteI had the same suspicions...

I plan on watching it. Rachel said it would ruffle some feathers. I hope she's right.

ReplyDeleteI am so looking forward to this show!
So, for a 'lame duck' president, he sure is busy bringing our country FORWARD. Unlike, Sarah the 'dead duck' or was it 'stinky, rotten fish' I can't remember.
Details Of White House Immigration Bill Revealed

If I were a wife, child, sibling or parents of any soldier who was killed in Iraq I would be forming a committee to take everyone of those bastards down for treason and see they spend the rest of their lives behind bars...including Dick Cheney. Hope his batteries don't go dead too soon!
ReplyDeleteThe problem is those in the military along with their wives, children or parents believed the propaganda. They thought they were fighting the good fight. Sad but true. Overall they were fighting for an ideology. This perverted rational lowered our standards to incarceration without legal representation or a right to a trial, torture, nation building, and the Bush Doctrine of a preemptive strike to protect the homeland. All of this only bankrupt our country and made us a nation of hypocrites in the eyes of the global community.
DeleteIsn't GW doomed to walk American soil for the rest of his days since he is considered a war criminal outside of our borders?? And for that our soldiers gave their lives....
What is most annoying to me is the sweeping it under the rug. The lack of exposing, discussing, or acknowledging the facts. It's disgusting. It's like the letting the creepy uncle get away with his crimes because no one wants to face the truth.
Well said Anonymous3:06 PM!
DeleteAnd we haven't even gotten to 911 yet? either.
I doubt she will mention that. I would be nice, but too radical.
Amen, Amen, Amen !!!! If the govt won't do it since it would derail all other work they are trying to get done, the families should in criminal court.
DeleteThis clip of Maddow's is really a gem. She is amazing. It's worth looking at about 5 times in a row. Thx for posting it.
ReplyDeleteMcCain makes my skin crawl.
ReplyDeleteMcCain on one huge sob bastard EVIL fucking MONSTER!
DeleteI wish he would do a breitbart and then we can really know what's behind the scenes.
I love Rachel. She is so right about the repubs trying to rewrite history. They are always trying to do this kind of thing. I hope McCain's head explodes.
ReplyDeleteI wish NBC had the guts to run it on NETWORK TV during Prime Time, at 8:00PM. It would have a much broader audience. Not everyone subscribes to the premium channels on cable TV.
ReplyDeleteDon't get me wrong, I'm still very glad its on at ALL, considering it's essentially an indictment of the media at large, why they didn't ask more questions or investigate further, particularly when so many were coming forward calling bullshit on Cheney's "evidence". But no - they simply accepted what they were told, no matter how outlandish it sounded.
Just like when the media simply accepted Palin's story about the circumstances regarding Trig's birth - "no further questions, thank you very much, sorry to bother you...".
BTW - The right-wing fringe - ala Breitfart and such - has co-opted "The Wild Ride" as a search term on Google; they've changed the narrative of "The Wild Ride" into something entirely different from what we all know it to be, and they're romanticizing the term in a completely flattering way to benefit Palin.
Remember, when using the term "The Wild Ride", take care to include some details... the RWNJ's are literally changing the story of what "The Wild Ride" stands for in regard to Palin
I was thinking EXACTLY the same thing. Brian Williams is always balbbing about their "in depth" coverage and how his Rock Center stories will be so "powerful", but if he and the network had real balls they would show this in prime time right after some major event/show where there is a big lead in audience.
DeleteDick Cheney looked into the TV cameras and said that there could be no doubt that Saddam Hussein had WMD. Hussein did not have WMD. Cheney lied us into a war that cost thousands of human lives and billions of dollars. Compared to those guys, Sara's "Wild Ride" story pales by comparison. No one got killed. In fact, now Trig is her responsibility in addition to serving as her political prop. Still, the media can do a really good job investigating when it has to. Sorry that it took Rachel (and her team) so long to get this story together, but at least it will air on Monday. At the same time, they can and do get things wrong, or just can't be bothered.
ReplyDeleteIt is ironic that Sarah and Chuck Jr. have been demanding honesty in reporting when they think that Sarah has been the victim (in terms of Field and Steam criticizing her performance in a faked reality show that aired in 2010). Sarah demands honesty in the media, except when the Alaska reporter originally asked her for details about her unbelievable twelve hour flight back to Alaska, when Sarah was supposed to be in labor, leaking amniotic fluid, delivering a premature, special needs child in a small town hospital that was not equipped for such a birth. Never mind that Sarah and Todd drove an extra hour, passing up the better equipped hospital in Anchorage. Given the emergency, and the fact that she was the Governor of the state, where was the police escort and ambulance waiting at the airport, ready to speed her to the nearest hospital? These questions don't get answered, but at least we'll be happy to know that Bush, Cheney, Rumsfield and the rest of those bastards did lie.
Trig is Sarah's son. He is YOUR prop so you can avoid thinking about democrats' lies and deceptions. Get perspective.
DeleteKrusty...GET fucked, you bitch! STFU!
DeleteThis is the best thing I've heard for awhile. Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteHubris is the name of a book on this subject by Michael Isakoff and David Corn. I read it years ago and it was a great book. It documents the lies and the subterfuge engaged in by the Cheney Bush Admin to get their war started. It was done to secure OIL. The surge was not to put down sectarian violence. It was waged to try to tamp down the resistance to the US tying up their oil with our oil companies. The surge did not work. We still do not have the oil. Al Maliki gave the contracts to other countries. Exxon was there but is pulling out because they could not secure a contract... ALL OF THAT CRAP for NOTHING. "Hubris" Did a good job. Rachel must be summarizing it.
ReplyDeleteI suspect there are many that do not know the definition of 'hubris' which is the title of the documentary that Rachel Maddow will present all of us tomorrow night.
DeleteIt is: self confidence or excessive pride or arrogance.
Does that cover Dick Cheney or what? The guy is such an arrogant asshole! He led President Bush and all into the war under nothing but lies! It needs to be remembered that the American people demonstrated against going to that war. It is documented and on video and I'm sure Rachel will include it in her documentary.
The Republicans are going to be one pissed off group for weeks to come and they will deserve every bit of anguish they experience!
Thank God we have President Obama and VP Biden leading our country. Can you imagine what it would have been like otherwise? And, I'm delighted Hagel will get the votes this coming week and take his seat beside our wonderful president - they will be a great team!
This should be a good show that I'm hoping I don't miss. I'm also hoping this show will open some close minded conservatives about why we are in so much debt.
ReplyDeleteMcCain and other Republicans will condemn this show and try to label it as another liberal attempt to destroy the Republican Party, or divid the country.
McCain's attitude since losing the 2008 Presidential campaign seems to have changed with him becoming bitter and angry Senator. He, seriously, must be very angry at Palin for screwing up his last chance of ever running for President again. But I also wonder how much of the responsibility he's willing to accept for choosing her.
Rachel's assessment of the foul mouthed fraud, McCain was long overdue. She forgot to mention that he told his wife to stfu and called her a cunt, but that wasn't relative to the discussion on Iraq and the fraud pow's eternal erection when it comes to Bush and war.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Rachel will do a bang up job on this special and I only wish it would get a wider audience on the "bubblegum" version of television known as "prime time mainstream Television", because THAT'S the audience that needs to see the truth.
It wasn't the Iraqi people's fault their leader was nuts, and neither our soldiers nor the Iraqi people deserved to lose life, liberty and limb for the vendetta GWBush extracted while using the tragedy of 911 as a ruse to start an unjust war.
For all the crap the GOP blames Obama's leadership as "Unconstitutional", not one of them blinked an eye for what Bush and Co did that was against everything in that document.
It's too bad there is no mainstream documentary on the lies and distortions of the events of September 11, 2001, which was the lead in to both wars. Remember, they were saying that Sadaam Hussein was behind the events of that day, and so much so that something like 40% of the American public believed he was the mastermind.
ReplyDeleteOf course, if you do any research at all, you will learn that it was elements within our own government working with others who planned, orchestrated, and carried out the "attacks" of Sept. 11th, and not any Islamic terrorists at all. It was the false-flag nature of that operation that led people to believe it would be permissible to attack two Islamic nations, neither of which had anything whatsoever to do with it. Then the added canard of "weapons of mass destruction" was thrown in just to be sure. It is sickening.
More info on all of this is available at a multitude of sources, but I would suggest that Architects and Engineers for Nine Eleven Truth (http://www.ae911truth.org/) would be a good place to start, as well as any of David Ray Griffin's books. Also http://physics911.net/
Gryphen, please remember not only Americans died.
ReplyDeleteI have lost countrymen (Australia), so have the Brits, and more.
And do not forget the countless civilian casualties, whose only crime was the terrible terrible misfortune of being born into a terrible country in a terrible region run by a terrible dictator about to be invaded by a terrible president on a terrible mission to make his mark somehow. They tell us low hundreds of thousands have died; to me that means its probably several million!
