SOTU open thread. Update!

I almost hate to admit it but I am a big fan of the State of the Union speech.

I even used to watch the ones delivered by George W. Bush. Sure I tore them apart, and ridiculed him afterward, but the important thing is that I watched.

Today's speech is the first one that I am going to miss watching live in quite some time, but sadly I have to do something called "my job" tonight, so I will be away from both my television and internet access which is going to irritate me. However somebody has to pay the bills around here and sadly that falls to me.

I will of course still have my I-Phone with me and will be able to update comments as they come in and of course when I am back in front of this computer I will embed the video of the speech so every poor slob, like myself, who missed it will have the opportunity to see what our President had to say.

P.S. By the way I trust that if the Secret Service is caught on camera pistol whipping Ted Nugent that you will all send me a comment immediately. I would certainly hate to miss that!

Update: Now that Palin's received a little attention she is going crazy on Twitter. Meth and Twitter simply don't mix! (Correction. I don't think this is Palin tweeting. It is too fast with too many links. and Right Wing factoids thrown in. I read more like RAM's old tweets to me.)

Update 2: Here is the President's full speech. (And here is the text version.)

Update 3: And here is the text of Rubio's speech. (Warning does not include gulping from water bottle.)

Update 4: Here is the Rubio water grab courtesy of Business Insider.

Welcome to Rubio's "Dean Scream."

I am really torn between hoping Nugent is too scared to be a bad boy, and so stupid that he IS a bad boy so I can watch Secret Service beat the everlovin' shit out of him.

Nuge trivia.... Ted Nugent's China Springs Ranch is about an hour and a half from the upscale resort where the Navy Seal and his friend were murdered. Crawford Texas is nearby. It is a rugged yet lovely area.

  3. Let’s hope a large Secret Service agent of any color, but with muscles on muscles, approaches Ted openly and with a malicious smile, and Ted soils his pants again. What a hoot.

Pistol whipping would be nice, also, too.

I’m normally not like this, but I was stalked for not gushing over Dubya, for Christ’s sake.

Two things that make me happy:

Robert Gibbs is now officially an MSNBC contributor as announced by Maddow.

A 102 year old woman is in attendance of the SOTU as a guest of the First Lade. If you're not familiar with this story, she is a citizen of Florida who on her first attempt to vote line up and was told to come back later as the line was so long. The second time she went to vote, she lined up for over 3 hours. 102 years old and the flipping morons made her wait in Florida heat. Thrilled she has been invited!! I expect to hear something said in the SOTF about the voting issue as I doubt the President would not make mention of this lady who was determined to cast her ballot!!

That's a sad story. Our bank even allows the elderly to go immediately to a special teller so they don't have to wait in line. Unbelievable that voting staff didn't help her through the line in Florida on election day. Where are the decent people anymore?

    O/T FYI

Rubio voted AGAINST the Violence Against Womens Act. So much for being 'inclusive' -- to women -- to African Americans -- to Native Americans -- to LGBT -- to LATINOS!! He's dead meat before he even makes the BAGGER response to the SOTU.

Yes, I know Rand Paul is the Bagger responder - but Rubio has put himself right back in the tank of sinking BAGGERS. Rubio can go join his BFF Bobby Jindal who's pondscum after his SOTU response and even his 'stupid' comment to his party is not going to recover him.

When the President proposed that the minimum wage be raised -- it brought to mind that that oh so popular Gov of NJ just a few short weeks ago had a proposal or a bill before him of raising the NJ minimum wage a Dollar an hour and he vetoed it. He was only willing to raise it 25 cents per hour.

25 cents per hour -- in the words of Joe Biden but without the same meaning, in fact the opposite meaning: BFD. 25 cents per hour will only push some of the people into a higher tax bracket which then would cost them more.

Christie is only sitting on high ratings because of Sandy as otherwise he is the fat pig that would screw his mother if given the opportunity. When will people of NJ wake up. As for the Dems in NJ -- they may as well be baggers as those who are not affected by Sandy have clearly lost their minds.

I live in NJ -- I loathe Christie and I agree the Dems need to wake up and realize all Christie did was his job -- nothing spectacular about a governor working with a President to help after a major storm and all the destruction -- only reason it was such a big deal was because he was President Obama and Christie is a Rebpulican -- but doesn't change the fact that Christie is a bully and will gut out state any way he can and will do his party's bidding -- only thing positive I can say is that at least he isn't a religious fruit cake from the far right.

I don't know if you have 'bullying' laws in NJ but if you do, some of those citizens should nail him on it. He uses his larded fat to intimidate and his piehole as the vehicle for bullying.

I'd love to confront him as I would grab his balls and have no fear doing it. I've done it to a few in my life and the last one that tried suing me lost. Only problem with Christie is finding them as the fatter you are, the more retracted the little balls are. He's a fat arrogant loudmouth pig.

When he got called out for his weight, he deserved it. Defend him -- not a freaking chance. I'd do the same. In fact, I hope the prick drops dead from a heart attack so we can collectively say 'told ya so'. His fat ass could not handle being the president as he could not keep up to 24/7/365

The two top lawyers for the presidential campaigns of President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney will co-chair an independent presidential commission on election reform, the president announced during his 2013 State of the Union address.

"We must all do our part to make sure our God-given rights are protected here at home," Obama said, according to his prepared remarks. "That includes our most fundamental right as citizens: the right to vote. When any Americans -- no matter where they live or what their party -- are denied that right simply because they can’t wait for five, six, seven hours just to cast their ballot, we are betraying our ideals."

"That’s why, tonight, I’m announcing a non-partisan commission to improve the voting experience in America," Obama continued. "And I’m asking two longtime experts in the field, who’ve recently served as the top attorneys for my campaign and for Governor Romney’s campaign, to lead it. We can fix this, and we will. The American people demand it. And so does our democracy."

Bob Bauer, former general counsel for the Obama campaign, and Ben Ginsberg, former top election lawyer for Romney's 2012 operation, will lead the commission, a senior administration official confirmed. This isn't the first time the duo has worked together: They previously negotiated the terms of the televised debates between their respective candidates.

Marco Rubio is lying his ass off in his rebuttal. He's obviously rehearsed and sticking with his preplanned speech about 'government' rather than really responding to what President Obama said.

His response just tanked him with Independants and those who support Obama.

Rubio's smile at the end of his rebuttal was amazingly fake. Along with needing to wipe the spit off of his face a couple times before bending down for a drink, he was pretty pathetic. All I heard were the same old GOP talking points they have been saying for the last 4 years.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Anonymous6:49 PM

I agree with Chris Matthews about Rubio's response speech. It was a kid's presentation at 9th grade level. And it was a critic of the President, rather than delving into what solutions they would cooperate with. And the "my mother" who depends of Medicare thing, meant to give the weepies just didn't work.

All the tweets were pre written(by someone not Sarah Palin). Just like Rubio, there is very little she said that relates to what the President said. They are counting on the baggers not listening to or not understanding a word of the SOTU. Sarah Palin and Rubio just need to get their words in so brainless fools have something in their heads related to the SOTU. It doesn't need to have anything to do with what was actually said.

The soon-to-be-infamous Marco Rubio water bottle moment

Courtesy of National Journal a wonderful moment captured in time from Marco Rubio’s “Republican response” to the President’s State of the Union. Marco Rubio and the water bottle, a moment in American history captured in time forever.

You see, Rubio was a bit sweaty. He also got really whiney and complained a lot about how mean the President is.

It seems the nerves and the whining finally caught up with Rubio, who got a serious case of dry mouth.

So Rubio lurched for a water bottle off camera, mid-speech, and took a gulp on camera.

As someone just noted on Twitter, President Obama spoke for nearly an hour and he didn’t need a wa-wa break.

Obama Delivers One of the Best Speeches of His Presidency: a Tour de Force SOTU

The Obama vision for America was laid out in sweeping fashion. President Obama delivered what might be the greatest State of the Union address from a president in at least 25 years.

Why was Obama’s address so good? It laid out a real vision for the future.

Marco Rubio Bombs in SOTU Rebuttal/2016 Audition

The problem with having to do the SOTU rebuttal is that you have to try to anticipate what will resonate in the president’s State of the Union. Marco Rubio and the GOP guessed wrong.

Sen. Rubio played up the whole, “look at me, I’m Hispanic” card, but beyond that he hit the Republican buzzwords about valuing life and free enterprise. Rubio immediately went off the rails by attacking Obama, and the Republicans completely guessed wrong by claiming that Obama’s solution was more taxes, more government, and more spending. In fact, Obama didn’t call for more government, but that didn’t stop the wrong track Republicans from putting poor Rubio out there to mouth the same old talking points. (Obamacare, check.)

If this is Rubio’s big 2016 audition, the Republican Party is in big trouble. Rubio played to the global warming deniers, the far right, and the Obama haters.

The suspicions of many were confirmed tonight. Marco Rubio isn’t being touted because he is a potentially great candidate with unique ideas. Sen. Rubio is a Sarah Palinesque attempt at courting the Hispanic vote in 2016. Rubio even name dropped Solyndra. The only thing missing from his rebuttal was a mention of Rev. Wright.

Now we can appreciate Sarah Paln's requests for a podium, two bottles of water with bendy straws. The podium would have made Rubio look more like an executive. Those hand gestures were right out of the Bobby Jindal Guide to Making Political Speeches. The podium would have also given Rubio some place to put his hands so that we didn't have to watch those juvenile gestures.

Thanks for the link to the written version of the speech. While the President is a great speaker, if you really want to dissect what was said, its best to read it.

So, when I see some numbnut friends on Facebook all whining about how "we are so screwed," I want to copy/paste that speech onto their profiles, and ask them to point out the sentences that caused them to get a case of the vapours.

Of course, they would be unable to find any SPECIFIC items (none of them would dare to say anything against equal rights for women, for example, and none of them are wealthy enough to seriously want to be on record as moaning about a tiny raise in the minimum wage).

I know rightwingers continually scream about LIBRULLZ bringing up the race issue, but I still suspect that if we could inject some truth serum into the arm of these dittoheads, they'd blurt out that the speech makes them feel like they are so screwed, due to how BLACK it seemed--simply by being delivered by who it was who did so.
