If your celebration of "Women's History Month" begins with Abigail Adams and ends with Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin, you probably do not understand why we celebrate women in history.

Courtesy of Opposing Views:

Concerned Women for America, a Christian political action group, recently produced a video (below) to celebrate Women's History Month.

The first part of the video focuses on Abigail Adams, the wife of President John Adams, who vocally supported women's rights and opposed slavery.

The second part of the video celebrated "women of virtue" such as former half-term Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and Rep. Michele Bachmann, who have supposedly been persecuted.

Palin is opposed to abortion in almost all cases, including rape and incest, but not if the life of the mother is endangered. In 2008, Palin cut funding in Alaska for unwed teen moms (which would later include her own daughter Bristol Palin).

Rep. Michele Bachmann says that she has agreed with the Catholic Church for 40 years on abortion. That position is no abortion, except in cases where the mother's life is in danger. If a woman is raped or the victim of incest, she must bear the baby.

Rep. Bachmann also opposes HPV vaccination for pre-teen girls. She scolded Texas Gov. Rick Perry during the GOP debates: "And to have innocent little 12-year-old girls be forced to have a government injection through an executive order is just flat out wrong."

I would only add that Bachmann's ignorance is a an embarrassment to her home state of  Minnesota, and that she is famous for saying outlandish things to the media, such as suggesting that members of Congress might be secret socialists and giving the Teabagger response to President Obama's 2011 State of the Union speech, in which she looked into the wrong camera, none of which has done anything to further the cause of women in this country.

As for Palin, well she faked a pregnancy to attract support from the pro-life Fundamentalists after which they apparently forced John McCain to put her on the 2008 ticket, and flaunts what's left of her sexuality to garner support and media attention, which are exactly the kinds of things that make almost every female in this country ashamed to share the same gender that she does.

In other words the very fact that this hyper religious group would make this video demonstrates just how important it is to celebrate Women's History Month and to use that as an opportunity to educate women on just how far they have come and the kinds of women who have damaged their credibility as business and political leaders in this country, ie Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann.

  1. Thanks for pointing the video out; I watched it. I hate the way they’re mixing noble and ignoble women.

Palin and Bachmann aren’t suffragettes; they’re sufferin’ idiots. That’s the best I can do since it’s very early.

"That position is no abortion, except in cases where the mother's life is in danger." may be Batshit Bachmann's position but it is not the position of the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church does not permit abortion under any circumstances...unless you are Rick Santorum's wife, of course.

Show me where it's right Michele, where shoving dildo ultrasounds into our vagina's via transvaginal probes under government order? Not only are you and Sarah / Bristol Palin idiots, you are also willful assholes who out to do us a favor and just sit down and shut up. Sit down on a probe.

I don't think that Abigail Adams would like either Michele Bachmann or Sarah Palin very much.

Sarah Palin has nothing to do with Women's History month. Sarah Palin has never done anything noteworthy except for screw ups that cost Wasilla and Alaska money and can't forget the Wasilla Hillbillies shopping spree in 2008. Sarah has alot of embarrassing failures but there are too many to list.

Re: Catholic church stance on abortion: I don't know that they even support abortion in the case where the mother's life is at risk. There was a case in AZ where a woman faced that dilemma and it was at a Catholic church and a nun voted for the abortion and she got ex-communicated.

If Sarah Palin cheated on Todd with a black man (not talking about Glen Rice) last week and got pregnant, do you think Sarah would have a secret abortion? I think so because prejudice people would be mad at Sarah and it would cause Sarah to lose donors for her SarahPac scam and she wouldn't want to lose even one donor.

Sarah Palin is the WORST example for women across the nation!!! She is a proven lyin' sack of shit and a fraud! Proven time and time again. Minnesota women have to be embarrassed by Bachman as Alaskans are of Palin.

The media needs to follow Sarah's husband, Todd, being a proven pimp in Alaska and supplying women to cops, FBI agents and politicians!

YUP THAT SARAH PALIN SHOULD BE HONORED.

    LOL

In 2008, John McCain and the GOP had to buy clothes for Sarah Palin, her husband, all her kids, Sarah's parents and Bristol's boyfriend because they only had trailer park shit.

LOL those trailer park fuckers thought they it rich but it didn't stop there. Those hillbillies robbed the Red Cross gift suite like a swarm of locusts, ran of with the campaign clothes and tried to hide some of the clothes and actually got away with some of the Saks 5th Ave loot they hid from the GOP clothes bounty hunters.

"an embarrassment to her home state of Minnesota"

One would think so,...but not so much. Have you ever been to that section of Minnesota she "Represents" ? It's exactly like her. It's the biggest concentration of Idiots (outside of Texas and South Carolina) in the United States. The rest of Minnesota is embarrassed by that section,...but they can't do much about it.

I personally can't wait for any random iceberg to hit Todd or $arah so hard they are reeling from the impact.

Ditto Bachmann, who takes goverment funds for her farmland to not grow stuff, and her husband's "gay therapy" clinic.

Malia Litman has a FOIA deal happening, and if the Secret Service releases evidence that their agent visited a prostitute that Todd procured for him, we are off to the races.

The fact that Todd was pimping DURING Palin's VP run in 2008 was certainly known about by $arah.

"Boys will be boys" may be the last thing Granny Grifter thought would bring her down, but you know $arah, karma has a way of surprising the hell out of you.

Don't forget the Sarah Palin Curse. That wicked plague has brought down many people including Sarah's fucked up uneducated dysfunctional inbred family.

Wouldn't surprise me if Trig was the baby of Track and Bristol.

My local library has various tables set up with rotating subjects. Yesterday they had one of "First Ladies", with books on Jackie Kennedy, Laura Bush, Barbara Bush, (not Hillary Clinton, for some reason), Michelle Obama...and SARAH FECKIN' PALIN. I took the Palin books and buried them in the Fiction section. In what world is Palin a first lady? She was a failed governor who had to flee her post with numerous ethics complaints following her.

Abigail Adams (and her husband as well) is certainly deserving of our respect. There is no comparison between her and the other two women your headline mentions. I would not have worded it that way. I know why we celebrate women; and Abigail Adams should be one of them.

The Adams, both John and Abigail, were Unitarians. Is that Christian enough for those Christians?

  16. Great news for women, NY'ers, LI'ers & the LGBT community!

Christine Quinn, LI native, officially announces bid for NYC mayor.

    from Newsday:
Democratic City Council Speaker Christine Quinn formally declared her candidacy for New York City mayor on Sunday, becoming the immediate front-runner in a crowded field to replace Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who is prohibited from running again because of term limits.

Quinn, a Glen Cove native, announced her long-expected mayoral run through her Twitter account Sunday morning and posted a video detailing her vision for the city on a new campaign website. If elected, Quinn would become the city's first female and openly gay mayor. Quinn married her partner, Kim Catullo, this past May.

Quinn has represented Manhattan's West Side, including the neighborhoods of Chelsea, Greenwich Village, Hell's Kitchen and SoHo on the New York City Council since 1999. She was elected speaker in 2006.

Watch Christine's campaign kickoff video here...

I worked with Christine on some 'community organizing' projects and was so impressed with her commitment, her fortitude and her character. Good luck, Christine!

Speaking of Bristol, what happened to her? She used to be like Sarah and sticking her uneducated nose into grown folks business but since the public has been demanding more info on her father's pimping business, Bristol has been quiet. Is the iceberg close to landfall?

Sarah's solution to the sequester's closing of the White House tours (hardly the most important cutback on the list) is to "make a mean Baked Alaska." I think that she is hinting at a bake sale to raise some money for the tours. However, Sarah has just opened the door for a bigger laugh (and she could raise more money, too). Check out the Urban Dictionary's first definition for Baked Alaska, and then try to guess how much money Sarah could raise that way. (Someone suggested that "baked Alaska" might have something to do with meth).

    Has anybody seen Bristol?

Last time Bristol went into hiding was.... Oh no... Don't tell me she is with child again?

Everybody warned Junker to keep his wick dry. Those Palins are very fertile. They can even get pregnant during wet dreams.

They forgot my all time favorite, Carrie Prejean. Yet they picked someone who praised John Wayne Gacy and one who put a sofa cushion under her blouse, wore scarves and layers and went on a wild ride to Wasilla.
But they had one woman in that video who speaks the truth, Sarah Silverman.

These "Concerned Women" need a hobby if Abigail Adams, BAchmann and Palin stood out as women of conviction. Adams, I could see, she was first lady. But the other two? Married to a closeted gay man and a pimp? LOL
