In the category of "News that flew under the radar this week:" National Republican Committee abandons Mark "Hiking the Appalachian trail" Sanford.

"No money from the RNC? No support from the voters? Gee I wish there were a long hike I could go on to take my mind off of my troubles."
Courtesy of Politico:

The NRCC’s move comes hours after Tuesday night’s report by the Associated Press that Sanford’s ex-wife, Jenny Sanford, filed a court complaint accusing him of trespassing at her home in early February – which would be a violation of the terms of their divorce agreement.

Republicans said they were caught off guard by news of Jenny Sanford’s complaint. They worry other damaging revelations about Mark Sanford’s personal life that they aren’t aware of could come out in the coming weeks.

The NRCC has spent a nominal amount on the race on polling and other activities. But officials determined that devoting potentially millions more — which was under discussion — isn’t worth it.

“This is an unfortunate situation but this is what happens when candidates aren’t honest and withhold information,” said one GOP operative.

Sanford’s campaign did not respond to a request for comment.

I guess even the Republicans have limits to what they will put up with, and breaking into your ex-wife's to watch football apparently crosses that limit. Funny because being caught with a hooker, cheating on your wife, or soliciting for gay sex with an undercover police officer in an airport bathroom did not seem to exceed that limit.

It looks to me that it will be smooth sailing for Stephen Colbert's sister, Elizabeth Colbert Busch.

Smooth sailing for Ms. Colbert Busch? I certainly hope so, but given the regressives' previous records of "I repented and I'm saved", I am not going to buy the champagne just yet.

Don't believe that they won't be pouring money into his campaign. What they say publicly & what they do privately are two different things. Give the race to the Democrat? Never happen. They said the same thing about Todd Akin and then poured money to him later in the race.

He didn't watch a TV show with his son without permission. The going announced and uninvited to the other's home was enough of the issue that the Separation Agreement includes a clause the disallows that. Further, after the Judgment was final, he pushed/violated the limit often enough that HER lawyer write HIS laywer a letter telling him to STOP IT. And this happened AFTER that letter.

I don't imagine most ex-spouses turn their ex in for a small infraction with virtually no consequences. I assume this wasn't an isolated indicent.

And what kind of excuse is: I didn't want my 14-year=old to watch the Superbowl by himself. It wasn't right! Watching the superbowl with friends or dad might be very very nice, good bonding, but it's not exactly traumatic NOT to watch the Superbowl with someone. And it might be traumatic to have your dad come over, knowing that if your mom finds out it will be trouble.

Excellent point! Way to put your child in a difficult position, idiot. This is HER home, he has no more right than a stranger to enter it. What a violation of her privacy to have her ex come into her home at will in her absence. And if he felt so strongly about watching the Superbowl with his son, the responsible, adult thing to do would be to make an arrangement to do so.

TYPOS AND ADDITIONS: He didn't JUST watch a TV show with his son without permission. The going UNannounced and uninvited to the other's home was enough of the issue that the Separation Agreement includes a clause the disallows that. ..

  5. Remember - dead people have been elected (when the electorate voted FOR them instead of their live but onerous opponents).

So this may be right down at that level too, as Deni points out (considering the venue).

I'm just hoping Stephen will make them look so foolish that lots of them don't go to the polls to vote for him.

    Fond hope.

I know I wouldn't vote for this jerk - he doesn't follow the rules and he lies!!! His kid could have gone to his house to watch the football games! Why did he have to enter his ex-wife's house when legally not suppose to? He's being an asshole, that's what!

This story just gets better and better. The court papers filed describe a pattern of repeated trespassing, not just this one time he concocts this noble sounding explanation for...especially ironic when we recall that his Appalachian hiking trip was on Father's Day! And he's caught sneaking out the back door using his cellphone as a flashlight! On top of which, he was insensitive to his sons' feelings when he surprised them with his "fiance" at the post election celebration, and reportedly the sons are not happy.

This guy is somewhere between a self-righteous horse's ass and a sociopath. And he shows a very disturbing pattern of acting as if no rules apply to him, as long as he says afterward how sorry he is.

I am ecstatic to be able to say I never once voted for this jackass! (obviously I live in SC or that wouldn't have any merit.) I believe this idiot is so onerous that even GRAHAM wouldn't admit knowing him!

As I said about my 2 senators concerning their voting against the proposed background checks: SC is slowly turning blue. Assholes like this only speed things up!

Sanford has, according to papers filed, shown a pattern of trespassing. This is not a one time incidence. The man is a Stalker and if I were Jenny Sanford I would be very afraid. He has no remorse for any of his actions. He gets caught and says he prayed about it and God has forgiven him. The dumbassed voters of South Carolina then vote for the creep. This guy has some SERIOUS mental health problems.A total Narcissist .

Oh please! When you're talking to a LIAR, you should EXPECT them to lie.

Creepy behavior! Of course he feels "entitled", the house that Sanford built is his despite the fact that the deed has Jenny's name.

Wow, I thought IOKIYR applied to all republicans, apparently the fact that he didn't marry his "soulmate" is why they're so upset.

I wonder WHO they'll pick to lose against Ms. Colbert Busch?

I'm surprised you are poohooing someone repeatedly breaking into their exes home. She has finally stepped forward to press charges and I support her in this in every way.
