You know you learn something every day.
I had NO idea that Jesus had left a message for the Boy Scouts in the Bible. Totally missed that part.
Oh and don't think that his asshole is the ONLY one to lose his shit over this either.
Courtesy of Wave 3 News:
WAVE 3 News took calls from viewers who want to know why one of the area's largest churches will no longer allow a local scout troop to meet there. Southeast Christian Church is one of the BSA's biggest charters with 100 scouts and 200 Cub Scouts meeting there each week.
Church leaders tell WAVE 3 this decision was not a knee jerk reaction. They tell us it was made months ago when the Boy Scouts of America first began talks of ending the ban. Southeast Executive Pastor Tim Hester says it was a difficult decision for the church to sever its relationship with the Boy Scouts.
"No question about that," Hester told us, "A lot of prayer, a lot of thought and a lot of discussions."
Some 300 kids from Troop 212 come to the church campus.
"We have enjoyed our association with Boy Scouts for a lot of years," said Hester, "and our local leaders are great leaders and we are with them in sharing their disappointment of the direction the National Boy Scouts have decided to go."
This is my favorite part, "This decision was not a knee jerk reaction.' Oh yeah, definitely the result of calm rational thinking.
Yep the churches are there to provide a welcoming atmosphere and to provide comfort and understanding to all people. Just so long as you do what we fucking tell you to do that is!
I lived in KY for over 30 years. Southeast Christian Church is a huge embarrassment. It is so large, locals call is "Six Flags over Jesus". Most attendees are white upper middle class people who want everyone else to abide by their beliefs and standards.....you know, sort of like the evangelicals in the Republican party. They deserve whatever bad publicity they get from this.
ReplyDeleteI lived there for over 30 years also. I completely agree with everything you said.
DeleteBryan Fischer is one of the most hateful and viciously prejudiced idiots among the christian supremacists.
ReplyDeleteAmong his most famously nasty positions are:
1) No freedom of religion for non-Christians, and particularly not for Muslims.
2) First Amendment protections do not apply to Muslims[10] or Mormons.
3)Individual states have the right to regulate religious expression.
4) Based on the "ObamaCare" individual mandate model, the government should tax atheists
5) A “sensible and sane immigration policy" would model "ancient Israel" and require every immigrant to “convert to Christianity
6) anyone who criticizes Sarah Palin is really controlled by Satan
7)an attack on Rick Santorum is an attack on Jesus himself

An last but not least:
QUOTE:
In what must surely be a strong candidate for a world record in hateful lunacy, Fischer has complained that we have "feminized" the Congressional Medal of Honor because it’s been given to a man who risked his life to save his fellow soldiers.
In November 2010 the medal was awarded to Army Sgt. Salvatore Giunta, for braving "heavy gunfire to pull a fellow soldier to cover and rescued another who was being dragged away by insurgents."
One would have to be pretty deranged to find such actions “unmanly,” right?
Well, enter Bryan Fischer:
“”So the question is this: when are we going to start awarding the Medal of Honor once again for soldiers who kill people and break things so our families can sleep safely at night? […] We have feminized the Medal of Honor
I believe the man is either actually insane, or he's more deranged and socipathic that $arah Paylin.
In my opinion, all religious right leaders are lying assholes out to make an easy buck. I hope all of them over-react like this regarding the boy scouts latest decision. Hopefully, this should cause even more people to wonder why they are wasting their hard-earned money to support the huge "cult-like" churches that are ruining this country.
ReplyDeleteYup.
DeleteChurch won't allow Scout meetings in their tax-exempt establishments anymore? Revoke their status. Problem solved.
ReplyDeleteSnort, that's rich, accusing the Boy Scouts as being sodomizes. . .men of cloth don't look in the mirror much.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they are afraid of the temptation, the hypocritical bastards
DeleteWell, they just lost 300 individual future supporters of the church along with their friends and families (a rough minimum of 300 x 3). That's likely more than 1,000 people they have successfully alienated which translates into hundreds of thousands of dollars of "tithes and offerings" they just pushed out the door. They just made the day of the next nearby church or community center. Great business model!
ReplyDeleteAnd they wonder why young people are abandoning certain religions in droves. It's hateful and bigoted positions like these that are the reason. Pretty soon only the fanatics will be left.
ReplyDeleteI so agree w/you 6:18 a.m. The USA is NOT going to be a christian country....give it another ten years or so. The younger population think so much differently than do the fat, white, ugly Republican/christian men that also try and control women.
DeleteIt ain't gonna continue happening...and the white race will become the minority in America - another thing the same Republican men cannot handle.
This is going to be fun to watch!
Why is it all these Christians obsess over sex whenever the Gay topic is brought up? Personally I'm not comfortable with how religious the BSA has turned, but they do teach principles that apply to life. This explains it much better than I can try. http://www.advocate.com/commentary/2013/05/22/op-ed-my-life-gay-boy-scout
ReplyDeleteI was born in Kentucky and thank my lucky stars I wasn't raised there! My folks moved to the west coast - I'm retired now - a senior - a liberal and do not connect w/these christians at all!!! Or, the Republicans we currently have in Congress that are obstructing everything they can and causing horrid harm to the poor and middle class.
ReplyDeleteComments from a homophobic lunatic at C4P:

Epiphany! To be a "Boy Scout", one must first be a "boy". A 'gay' cannot truly be a boy, since his mindset is not that of a 'boy' but one that covets 'boys', lacks an attraction to females and is inclined to behavior not endemic to boys. Webster says boys are male, and it is a far stretch to consider a true 'gay' a 'male' in the true sense of the word. So how can a . . . (hard nowadays to find an acceptable label) . . . homosexual be considered male?
The homosexual condition is disruptive to normal male interaction, and inclusion in the 'Boy Scouts' persons who would possibly cause strained relationships in a learning process should be excluded and instead form organizations where they can freely practice their . . . I'm lost for words.
This should attract some responses that will help me wrestle with this problem in society.

Number Of Liberal Americans Growing, Number Of Conservatives Dropping
ReplyDeleteThe number of Americans who describe themselves and their beliefs as “liberal,” either on social or economic issues is growing significantly and reaching new highs, or meeting earlier ones, based on data from a just-released poll by Gallup, a generally conservative organization. Accordingly, the number of Americans who describe themselves and their beliefs as “conservative,” either on social or economic issues is dropping.
Gallup reports “the trend suggests that ideological attitudes in the country may be shifting. Social liberalism has grown by six points since 2001 and now attracts half of rank-and-file Democrats and Democratic leaners.”
This new survey shows changes in Americans’ ideology: economic conservatism is at a five-year low, while social liberalism has registered its highest support…
Gallup reports finding “the percentage of Americans describing their social views as ‘liberal’ or ‘very liberal’ has achieved a new peak of 30% — in line with Gallup’s recent finding that Americans are more accepting on a number of moral issues. Thirty-five percent of Americans say they are conservative or very conservative on social issues and 32% self-identify as socially moderate.”

Good Gawd Y'All- Biblical Medicine- Coming to a Hospital Near You..
ReplyDeleteWhat would Jesus do you ask? Apparently we are all about to find out. Religious owned Hospitals will Minister to the most important Health needs of women, poor, elderly and the dying...
It's The Family, the Family, the Family! (Not your family, that weird political, religious Family...)
Biblical Medicine? How Religious Corporations Are Gobbling Up Healthcare Facilities
But the Vatican hasn’t survived for 1,500 years by being stupid. And as my devout family members like to say, “Where God closes a door, he opens a window.” The window the bishops found open in Washington takes the form of independent hospitals with financial problems.
---
In the words of the U.S. Conference of Bishops, Catholic hospitals and healthcare corporations are “healthcare ministries” and “opportunities:”
New partnerships can be viewed as opportunities for Catholic healthcare institutions and services to witness to their religious and ethical commitments and so influence the healing profession. . . .For example, new partnerships can help to implement the Church’s social teaching.
---
Under these agreements, the patient-doctor relationship becomes a patient-doctor-church relationship: “The Church’s moral teaching on healthcare nurtures a truly interpersonal professional-patient relationship. This professional-patient relationship is never separated, then, from the Catholic identity of the healthcare institution.” Furthermore providers who work in these systems are required to sign binding contractual agreements to adhere to the religious directives, whether or not they are Catholic: “Catholic healthcare services must adopt these Directives as policy, require adherence to them within the institution as a condition for medical privileges and employment, and provide appropriate instruction regarding the Directives . . . .”

This is true, and started happening about 20 years ago in my very liberal community. The local Catholic hospital began buying up the smaller hospitals in the area and after that, local medical practices, all of whom were required to adhere to Catholic moral teachings. Therefore, no tubal ligations, help with contraceptives, and certainly no abortion.
DeleteThen they were bought by (or "allied with") a larger organization called Catholic Hospitals West, and bought up more medical practices.
But something interesting happened last year. Catholic Healthcare West renamed itself Dignity Health, and decided to split from the Church. The majority of hospitals they own are Catholic, but not all. This has served to open things up a bit, though our local hospital has decided that it is going to remain allied with the church anyhow. At first they started taking down the crucifixes and statues, but there was an outcry from the large local Catholic community so they stopped. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
This will be the end of the Boy Scouts.
ReplyDeleteWatch as the numbers drop
They should now be called Boy sodomites.
ILGA-Europe summary of the status of LGBTI people in Europe
ReplyDeleteILGA-Europe is the European portion of the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, and Intersex Association. The organization has recently released its 2013 comprehensive overview of LGBTI rights and lives in Europe. It is variously being called Not 'la vie en rose' and the Rainbow Europe package.
At the national level, we see that developments are at times taking completely opposite directions. Some countries are moving towards marriage equality, better protection mechanisms against discrimination and violence, ensuring easier and more humane procedures for legal gender recognition. However these advances are often accompanied by a social backlash, including increased violence. In other countries, the most worrying development is the introduction of more restrictive and discriminatory measures such as the laws banning ’homosexual propaganda’.
The organization has highlighted 20 key developments and trends. Some were positive. Far more were not.

You really know the bullshit is a whopper of a lie when the word "woe" is used three times in a row to make a point. I loved this part: "The infamous crime against nature has now been normalized"
ReplyDeleteSays the old white haired fart in a fabulous shirt in just the right shade of pink. Bryan (with a y) Fischer may need Marcus Bachmann's services, just sayin'!
Why do their minds automatically go to sex between men and prepubescent boys? Is heterosexual sex taught in the Boy Scouts of America? Do they get a pin for their first time with a woman?
Crime against nature? Why are there homosexual animals in nature? Do they choose that lifestyle or are they taught it?
