Conservative reporter says that the rehiring of Sarah Palin proves that Fox News does "not care about conservatism."

Courtesy of The Week:

Not long ago, conservatives like myself were thrilled to find out that Fox News, often portrayed as the mouthpiece of the conservative movement, had parted ways with former governor of Alaska (and quitter) Sarah Palin. This was truly a cause for celebration. Those of us devoted to building a conservative movement capable of winning elections had come to view the former governor as the symbol of everything, and I do mean everything, wrong with the modern conservative movement.

But now, Roger Ailes has rehired her. And in so doing, Ailes has issued a painful reminder that he cares far more about making money than he does about informing his viewers — or even winning elections for the Republican Party.

To be sure, I admire and recognize Palin's remarkable political ability. Her political instincts are sublime, as evidenced by the way crowds of very honorable and intelligent Americans connected with her during her campaign. But while having good political instincts may well make you a hit on the campaign trail, and might even score you a victory or two in elections, those who are all sizzle and no steak get found out soon enough. And never in the history of the United States has anyone ever been found out quite the way Gov. Palin was.

Before John McCain nominated Palin to be his running mate in 2008, the Republican Party was already in lousy shape. But Palin was rock bottom. She simply did not know enough to engage anyone on any matter of substance, and that was a highly damning fact that shaped the modern perception of the Republican Party. It plagued us in the last election, and continues to hamper us to this day. Because of Palin's lack of education on matters of substance, and because so many in the movement embraced her in spite of that utter cluelessness, most voters came to view the party as a movement driven by charismatic but uneducated leaders followed by hordes of hero worshipers too oblivious or uninterested to contemplate the sorts of disaster that might follow if someone like Palin were actually elected.

"But Palin was rock bottom. She simply did not know enough to engage anyone on any matter of substance, and that was a highly damning fact that shaped the modern perception of the Republican Party." God I love that! Especially because it is so true.

Of course I completely disagree with the assertion that Palin demonstrates "remarkable political ability" since she has never really demonstrated any. Instead what she has demonstrated is the ability to identify those ignorant enough to fall for her deceptions and to drain every last dollar out of their bank accounts, as well as the ability to attract attention from the public much like a traffic accident attracts attention from passing motorists.

However I do agree that Ailes putting her back on the payroll indicates that he only cares about using her to attract a few more eyeballs to Fox before the last horny old conservative goat becomes too decrepit to even work the remote control anymore, and does not really care about presenting the conservative movement as a viable political ideology, unless that in some way fattens his bank account.

Personally I think that this is a miscalculation for Ailes. Sure he will get some short term attention, and a few more clicks for this decision, but ultimately Palin's presence will damage the credibility of Fox (Assuming there is any left) just like she has impacted the credibility of the Republican party. (Assuming there is any left.)

But hey, who am I to tell Ailes how to run his network into the ground? He seems to be doing a bang up job of that all on his won.

There's a great big plus side to this:
Palin's website and C4P have almost exclusively run pictures of her that are four-five years old.

Now, her fanbase will tune in to see the leader they've missed for so long on tv, only to discover that the past six months have been very unkind to her, and the reality vs. the promotional pictures will be a starker contrast than ever. They may start to wonder if the old Sarah Palin, the one that excited them so much, even exists anymore. And once she opens her mouth about something other than election-year politics, they'll grow bored, and ask for someone with a brain.
    Well, it's a possibility.

Actually, there's a side bet of whether or not they will be symmetric. I hate to take his money, but when I do, I'll be sure to send it to your PAC. That'll piss him off, for sure.

Glenn Greenwald and Glenn Beck: A Comparison

On one hand we have Glenn Greenwald claiming that the United States is “building an enormous structure” with the specific goal of destroying all privacy and anonymity in the entire world…

…and on the other hand we have Glenn Beck claiming that the United States is becoming a “totalitarian state” that “will be remembered as the most evil nation in the history of the world,” dwarfing the Third Reich. And I’m sure he feels this isn’t hyperbole either.

Apart from their political orientations, what’s the essential difference between these two extreme opinions?

How did mainstream media get the NSA PRISM story so hopelessly wrong?

Summary: Last week's bombshell stories by The Guardian and The Washington Post accused some of the biggest names in tech of willingly working with the NSA to give up your data. It now appears that those stories misread the technical details and got the story wrong.

Sounds like Beck has never heard of Stalin, Lenin, Hitler, Mao, Genghis Khan, Pol Pot, Idi Amin (not to mention Nero and other caesars), and a boat-load of others too numerous to mention.

His position also sounds very schizophrenic: "America is the greatest nation on earth!" "NO, America is the worst nation on earth!"

EITHER that, or he is beyond exploitative, deliberately saying the most outrageous things he can think of, merely for the huge amount of money it might bring him.

No wonder the younger generation is so repulsed by the right wing.

Okay I'll try to explain it to Sarah Palin's fan base one more time.

President Obama won the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections and by law he cannot run for a third term.

    Awwwe screw it.

Mike your country needs your help to find a Republican to run against Obama in 2016. Hopefully you can find one who can beat President Obama.

Kurt Eichenwald’s piece for Vanity Fair today has some of the clearest information I’ve yet seen on exactly how the NSA’s data collection programs work, what they’re used for, and the many layers of legal oversight and limitations placed upon them: PRISM Isn’t Data Mining and Other Falsehoods in the N.S.A. “Scandal”.

    'I can’t stand it.

A few days ago, I wrote in some detail about the National Security Agency’s data-mining program in hopes of calming the hysteria that has been whipped up in the last number of days by incorrect and misleading reports, as well as by plenty of ill-informed commentary based on those errors. At this point, I’ve decided that I need to tell a little bit more.

Some explanation up front: I spent seven years investigating the national-security systems and policies established in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks for my book 500 Days. I learned a fair amount about the data-mining programs of the N.S.A. and wrote about it. I summarized those findings in my last post. However, now it has become obvious to me that I need to go further than I did in my book, at least in hopes of calming things down. When discussing errors, I’m going to mention “reports” regarding news articles, but I’m not going to identify them—the last thing I want is for this to become a back-and-forth between reporters.

First, the much-ballyhooed PRISM program is not a program and not a secret, and anyone who says it is should not be trusted because they don’t know what they’re talking about.'

    According to Eichenwald,

NSA data-mining of international Internet activity is not only specifically targeted at uncovering terrorist plots, it’s been very effective:

'I’m not comfortable getting into too much detail (some sources I interviewed during my reporting for the book placed limits on what I could publicly reveal about active programs as part of their agreement to speak with me). But I can say for a fact that this data-mining and telecommunications program has had significant successes. For example, a network of terrorists at least twice attempted to spirit strontium 90 from Uzbekistan into Kazakhstan; both of those times the smuggling was stopped, once through traditional intelligence activities, and once through the use of the data-mining program. Specific cyber-attacks have been stopped, and strategic plans of terrorist groups obtained. However, it has to be understood that data mining is not a single tool—rather, it is part of a broad array of intelligence-gathering activities, and is rarely used alone to prove a national-security risk.'

    Read the whole piece —

there’s much more interesting info therein.

I had to google, which I do a lot when reading posts at IM, and found that Carie Charlesworth is the woman mentioned the other day that was fired from her teaching job because her husband is (allegedly?) abusive and thus SHE is a threat to the students' safety.

I'm rolling my eyes here because SHE is a threat!!??!!

OK, if you follow that logic (?) then you would have to disenroll (unenroll? Throw out?) and ban all the kids in the school who have abusive parents or abusive siblings. And for sure all the teachers and admins, etc. who themselves are abusive. (Statistically, there would likely be some.)

    3. Anonymous6:53 PM

A few years ago a teacher in Medford OR wanted permission to carry a gun to school because she feared her ex would come there and try to kill her. The Carie case seems very similar.

My question -- why would any teacher want to risk bringing such potential violence into the school environment. I feel sad that both women are embroiled in domestic violence but we're already experiencing enough 'unexpected' violence that it would be foolhardy to approve a situation that comes with a warning bell.

Roger Ailes is über desperate, senile, more like both actually. This rehire makes no sense. How long is her contract? He may think some cheap thrills will be good for summer ratings? With few exceptions peeps are weary of her same old bash the guy McCain lost to routine.

I do hope others take this opportuniy to help educate the public on who Palin really is, a FRAUD. Unfortunately the whole wonder woman birth episode has been swept under the rug. Every other celebrity pregnancy is vital and important and worthy to rehash. Why not the fake one? Salma Hayek was pregnant in 2007 and she still gets media attention to what happened to her body.
    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2341907/Salma-Hayek-I-completely-disfigured-50lb-pregnancy-weight-gain.html

In 2008 Sarah Palin said "There's a place in Hell reserved for women who don't support other women" (a misquote in Californian when Shailey Tripp's client Dave Chaney was checking out the Palin body part and blogging about it). She was never pregnant with Trig and she doesn't mean that about supporting women. If old 'Tight Ab' meant it she would not be so incredibly selfish and keep her 'tight ab' secrets to herself.

Palin's 2008 body experience is just as and more so important as Salma Hayeks. So why can't media write about Tight Ab Palin and the wild ride now? 32 year old Kim Kardashian is a month or two before birth and her doctors have said DO NOT FLY. How the heck could Palin be so careless and flighty up to her last month? It seems dumb the country and women especially can't even have a national discussion. It could be a learning experience and help support women to make good decisions about their unborn children. The reckless wild ride leadership is a threat and a danger. We truly do need an open discussion as Salma is not afraid to do with her body condition, at a time she says it was deformed.

Here in the states one of her nut cases may want to do something thinking they are protecting an innocent special needs child. That whole thing is so wrong.

What is really interesting about Ailes’ move with Palin is it is getting so little traction in the media. She is considered an old has-been buffoon. What little that is being reported is receiving very few comments. We on IM may think she is a hazard, but it looks like the typical Joe (excepting the old farts who can’t find the remote as you say) are simply ignoring this development. One guy lovingly posted every photo he could find of Sarah, and now he's not welcome there anymore. They are a tough crowd, and they don't like Fox any more, either. And, given the boycotts that have hit Rush and Glenn, Mr. Ailes should be wary of how much buying power those who think Sarah Palin is dangerous have, and how we can coordinate to put an end to her appearances.
If she doesn't make back the money you pay her, she'll just be dead weight on your already overloaded network. Once she's fired twice by Fox, there will be nowhere for Sarah to go. No money, no power, a tiny set of fan bots, a large family to support: the makings of a 50th birthday meltdown.

There are actual beautiful women working at Fox, I don't see why Ailes would need this hag with bad hair and ugly clothes on his network to draw ratings. If he thinks that's going to work then he's as stupid as she is. Palin haters will watch to see what retarded shit she says and the Palin cult will watch so they can talk about how brilliant she is and how she's gonna run in 2016 but that's probably it. I don't think she'll last another year on the network without fucking up and getting fired. Guess we'll see.

It's her ugly, hate-filled speech and her followers. She's like Ann Coulter, throwing out real red meat for the blood-thirsty Tea Party crowd. Reading some of the comments at Sarah's fan website, they don't seem to like any of the people on Fox. They hate O'Reilly, Hannity and anyone who doesn't agree with them. Ailes needs to attract these people back to Fox, and the only reason that they will watch is Sarah.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/erik-wemple/wp/2013/06/13/fox-news-reunites-with-sarah-palin-but-why/

On page 280 of his highly readable book “An Atheist in the Foxhole,” former Fox News “mole” Joe Muto details how Palin came to be regarded in the Fox News newsroom:

[H]er abilities as a pundit left much to be desired. She conversed entirely in shallow, empty platitudes, as if she’d just memorized a list of talking points instead of actually boning up on whatever issue was on her plate. … A few months into her tenure, O’Reilly exploded with frustration when he was told for the third time in a row that Palin wouldn’t be available. “I don’t know why this woman refuses to help us out,” he vented. “And when she does come on, she doesn’t say anything. It’s just the same BS talking points every time.”

Even the “conservative true believers,” writes Muto, came to admit over time that Palin was “every bit as uninformed as her liberal critics had charged.”

Another insight on Palin comes from Muto’s book: She “tended to play hard to get,” he writes, stiff-arming requests for appearances. She also allegedly refused to participate in pre-interview briefings, which “meant that we producers could never brief her on the segment, making it that much more likely she’d get hit with an unpleasant surprise or unexpected question on live television.”

    She's one goofy biatch:

Rep. Linda Sánchez (D-Calif.), the only female player in the game, stole the show. She had her first at-bat of the game in the bottom of the third and Democratic fans met her with a standing ovation, chanting “Let’s go Linda” throughout her time at the plate. Sánchez sent runners home in both of her turns at the plate, as well as made the final out of the game: a throw to first to seal the Democrats’ victory.

She's lately been posting more and more outrageous and crass posts and tweets. She is absolutely not lady-like in her talk and appearance these days. It's going to be so evident when she's back. Not only will Fox viewers notice something amiss, but staff and her host interviewers will notice she's all snark with little to offer on their shows. And the way she treated the election night Fox talking heads, by whining they cancelled her appearances on election night - well, she's forever branded her reputation as 'diva' - how can Brit Hume, and company ever be serious when having her on? The body language will tell a lot.

Say what we will about Fox News, at least it'll offer some entertainment.

The next months and years into election time is crucial for Republicans to reformat themselves and their agenda. They'll desperately want to win this time and have to provide serious candidates. If Sarah P. as Fox's carnival barker, insists on continuously yapping and whining about the Obama Administration, she'll do damage to the Repub Committee's work to re-create itself. President Obama's term will be over in a few years and they're on to pump out new candidates. They're looking to 2016, while Sarah's still stuck in 2008.

She's still holding that sore grudge against the President who stole her crown and even though his last term will be up in 3 years, she'll show her true colors as she continues to verbally attack him and his policies, while true Republicans will be concentrating on making big changes and setting a new improved tone. They'll be building a new bridge, while she's still nagging and gnarling about the old one. They won't tolerate it, neither will Karl Rove.

    Sarah Palin's newest Facebook post:

Whether outside our homes, inside our classrooms, or alongside our courthouses, the American flag flies as a symbol of "liberty and justice for all." On this Flag Day, we pledge our allegiance once again to the ideals that define this most exceptional nation. We vow to defend these ideals out of respect for those who have come before us and out of love for future generations.

    1. "Inside our classrooms"?

What if your child drops out of high school like Willow Palin did? Is Willow any less patriotic because she hasn't pledge her allegiance to the flag at Colony High School in Palmer, Alaska since her sophomore year when she dropped out?

    2. "Liberty and justice for all"?

Sarah Palin are you fucking with all of us? What liberty and justice has Shailey Tripp received? Shailey Tripp has tried for years as well as Immoral Minority and its readers, Malia Litman's blog and her readers and along with many other Americans to get liberty and justice for Ms. Tripp without any success because Todd Palin refuses to deny or acknowledge he pimped out Shailey Tripp for his personal use and pimped Shailey Tripp out to the Secret Service and the Anchorage Police Dept to name a few.

    3. We vow to defend these ideals?

Sarah Palin who is "WE"? What have you or your children done to defend these ideals? Sarah Palin you and your children hasn't raised your voices or lifted your fingers to help Shailey Tripp and many Alaskan women like her get their justice or to combat sex trafficking in Alaska.

The Palin family should be very ashamed of themselves if Todd Palin recruited and pimped out Alaska's struggling females to buy designer glasses for Sarah, pay for his Iron Dog race fees and to pay the tv cable bill for his children.
