The California Democrat launched a legislative agenda of family-friendly policies, such as paycheck fairness for women, an increased federal minimum wage, and President Barack Obama's proposed early childhood education initiative.
The agenda, coming as the legislative season begins to make way for next year's campaigns, was designed to stand in contrast to bills being debated under the GOP majority on the House floor. "It's all about letting women know there's an opportunity for something different," Pelosi said, over salads, sandwiches and sodas.
Okay admittedly I am not a woman but this seems to me to be very good news for women in this country, and should, I would think, be welcomed by American females with open arms.
So what do we make of this from the Grizzled Mama's Facebook page?
Odd. Pelosi sees women as less than equal and thus needing government intervention. Glad girls today know the truth re: women's strength and equal opportunity. I'm glad my girls know the truth.
WTF? Is Sarah Palin (A woman who has benefited mightily from the work done by Women's Liberation movement by the way.) completely unaware that women are STILL being paid far less than men, STILL being passed over for advancement due to their gender, and STILL needing help when it comes to finding childcare and educational opportunities for their children?
And just what is this TRUTH that Palin is teaching her girls?
That EVERY female in the country gets to ride their mother's coattails? That EVERY female in this country gets multiple shots at their own reality show? That EVERY female can have a baby out of wedlock and get to write books and give speeches because of it?
In the immortal words of Keith Olbermann, "This woman is an idiot!"
But what is more than that is that her version of history, and women's place within it, is dangerous to the young women who may actually think she knows what she is talking about. She doesn't!
Nancy Pelosi clearly understands the challenges and obstacles facing women today, Sarah Palin simply does not. Or if she does, simply does not care about them.
Which makes sense, because after all how can we expect a woman whose husband pimped women out for sex to understand or care about women's issues?

Palin spouts nothing but platitudes (drill, baby, drill) in contrast to JN, who offers articulate and informed answers. That last item is the only one geared specifically for women, but, clearly, it would improve the lives of their families if women were paid what they're worth.
Take a look at the McDonald's website, aiming to help its workers budget their tiny paychecks. One of the most helpful suggestions is for the workers to get a second job, and work 75 hours a week. McDonald's doesn't suggest that it will pay more than the minimum wage, in order for the families of its workers to be able to exist on the wages of a 40-hour-a-week fry cook.
Mrs. Palin: I have no idea what you've taught your daughters about "women's strength and equal opportunity." But you didn't teach them that women are made stronger with a strong education as preparation for the working world.
One of your daughters makes her money by appearing on tv -- a gig only a few lucky men or women can achieve. She appears to have no other skills, and, if she does really work in a doctor's office, she can only be making the minimum wage. She has to turn to tv because a low-level receptionist job wouldn't pay to support herself and her son.
Your other daughter, although she appears not to be employed, was trained for a "pink collar" job -- hairdressing. One of the goals of equal pay is that a semi-skilled job like a hairdresser should end up rewarding the women who practice it with the same money made by men who also are in semi-skilled jobs, like truck driving or machine-tool operator.
Tripp and Trig certainly would benefit from early childhood education. All of the people who work for a wage in your family would benefit from a higher minimum wage. And your daughters would benefit from being paid the same as their male counterparts with similar skills and experience.
Those are the "facts," Sarah.

“The key for us is to take this out of the abstract and make it very, very, very real,” one of the leaders of the effort, David Simas, told a dozen White House aides during a strategy session in the West Wing last week.
Mr. Simas, a top strategic adviser to the president, was in charge of the 2012 Obama campaign’s effort to understand voter sentiment and opinions. His challenge now is to apply the same techniques of microtargeting to the health care law.

Nancy Pelosi can do no wrong IMO. Even when I disagree, I support her actions because she is educated and able, smart, honest, boots on the ground, AND I trust her (based on her record).

Even when I agree, I do not support her actions because she is uneducated and incompetent, cunning rather than intelligent, dishonest (as in HOAX -- just one example), NEVER boots on the ground (just spinning airy fairy opinions based on her bankrupt beliefs and value system), AND I do not trust her (based on her record).

ReplyDeleteKeep in mind that Palin has never held a regular, grown-up job for long. She has not worked her way up the ladder in any career field, her best job was based on cronyism, not qualifications. and she has never had to be the sole breadwinner for her family.

Until I was well-established in my career, I didn't believe in the glass ceiling. Then I went to work in a good-'ol-boys company in a male-dominated industry and got to see it first hand. There were a lot of smart women in that company whose hard work, dedication, and superior quality and quantity of work was completely unrecognized and unrewarded.
I work elsewhere now, but again today went to my male boss to get him to ask questions and champion things I can't as a woman in this good 'ol boys club. It certainly hasn't been like this most of the places I've chosen to work, but it is still that way in far too many work places.
It would be ever so nice if that vapid, grifting, unethical, vindictive bitch would close her mouth permanently in public and let only the voices of real working women who support their families with honest labor and those that appreciate them for what they really have accomplished be heard on this subject.
