Website attacks Wendy Davis for being more attractive than she was in college in order to undermine her credibility. I'm sorry, what?

Too pretty to be taken seriously?
Here is a picture of Wendy Davis from 1991, when she was a student at Texas Christian University.

Here is what the website, The Real Wendy Davis has to say about this picture:

Somehow, during the past two decades she has been transformed from a frumpy, pleasant looking but plain-faced, flat-chested brunette with thick, messy hair, into a buxom blonde with excellent facial features and sleek, long, perfectly coiffed hair, like she stepped straight out of Vogue.

For someone who in the early 1990s was a feminist activist in law school, and who is currently posing as a champion of women’s rights, standing up to men who seek to dictate the way women should live, she seems to have devoted an unusual amount of attention to her physical appearance.

Uh huh. You know somehow an attack from those who once supported Sarah Palin, on another politicians attractiveness carries with it a strong pungent odor of hypocrisy.

Oh, but it is not that Davis is attractive which seems to be the issue, it is that her attractiveness seems impossible.

Current photos of Senator Davis depict someone who is not just more physically attractive, but who arguably seems younger than the woman in her yearbook photo, even though that photo was taken 22 years ago.

The website author then goes on to accuse Davis of using surgery or artificial enhancements to make herself attractive, assuming that if true it will undermine her star power.

Well I have news for them, while I cannot help but notice that Davis is indeed a very attractive women, that had virtually NOTHING to do with WHY I think she is a star.

She is a star because she singlehandedly halted a bill that, if passed, will have a devastating effect on a woman's ability to control her own body in Texas.

She is a star because she is bright, articulate, and courageous. NONE of which can be acquired utilizing push up bras or plastic surgery.

If Wendy Davis were a three hundred pound Jabba the Hut lookalike it would make little difference, because we are seeing the intelligence and heart of Wendy Davis, not the form in which it is housed.

If all it took was plastic surgery, and fake boobs to be a superstar, THIS woman would be running for President in 2016 instead of fighting for five minute increments of air time on Fox News.

(P.S. By the way if we were all judged by our appearance when attending college, I know a LOT of people who would not be taken very seriously today.)

Gryphen PLEASE send this website the photo of $carah when she was a "sports announcer" for what - 2 weeks? You know the one, she is looking into the camera looking surprised, with the wonky eye on full display, frizzy hair, flat chest. How did SHE change her appearance, I wonder? Wendy has something Palin will NEVER have - BRAINS.

Can we presume that the boobs inside Palin's green jacket here, are the same ones they used for Bristle during the VP campaign? Looks as bulky to me and they could have saved them through the years.

"Wendy has something Palin will NEVER have - BRAINS."

PLUS a law degree from Harvard Law School. She knows how to use and make money (should she decide to enter the private sector) from her brains. So, not just one, but three things Palin will never have.

Amazingly and very unfortunately, however, the right wing does seem to be making money hand over fist from its stupidity.

    3. But Sarah has something that Wendy will never have -- the title of "Governor".

I know lots of men and women who look better in their 50's than they did in their 20's. Confidence has a lot to do with attractiveness.

Also, the yearbook photo was after Ms. Davis was a divorced teen mother--perhaps her intention during college/law school was to demonstrate her academic abilities and downplay her sexual appeal. When I was in college, I didn't like the attention directed towards me due to my sexual attractiveness--I wanted to be seen as a serious student (and I did graduate at the top of my class, but there are those who see an attractive woman who will assume that their success is a result of sleeping with the professors. Now in my 50's, with my career being well established, I too am blonde (even though had been a brunette since birth) - only I became blonde in order to prevent the skunk growth line from showing every three to four weeks.

As a younger woman, I was afraid of being sexually harassed at school & work. I was afraid of not being taken seriously. As a mature woman, I am much more comfortable in my skin and have the confidence to take on anyone in my field. That makes a person more attractive.

Look closely - it is the same Wendy Davis in both pics except her hair has been "tamed" or straightened, and blonded, as is the trend.

The features are not changed and a black and white photo contrasted with a colored one always looks "plain."

I too became a blond during my 40's. Got lots of male attention, more than previously perhaps, but it was in vogue to highlight, streak, bleach, and it was part of keeping current with fashion. Added contact lens and dispensed with the glasses and felt very comfortable in my personna.

Contrasted with my earlier, attractive black and white photos sporting glasses, I suspect people thought it a different person.

Wendy Davis is a force to be reckoned with and I like the fact that she is also attractive. Additionally she is articulate and extremely well versed which was shown when she talked for all those hours.

This is too funny. I recall the GOP saying that we 'hate Sarah Palin because all liberla women are ugly.' Remember that? Now that the intelligent AND attractive liberal women are stepping up, they get slammed for being attractive? And Hillary gets slammed by old men for being old? I tell you, the GOP has lost it.
By the way, that Palin photo looks like she took her fake preggers stomach pillow and put it under her jacket, doesn't it? Actually, it reminds me of what Bristol's chest looked like under that black sheath they had her in at the GOP convention. Square. And we're supposed to assume both Palin women are 'natural?' Yeah, natually liars. I do think the GOP is terrified of women. They are so used to their Barbie dolls who spout nonsense, a real woman with a brain is frighening beyond belief. Get used to it, white boys. We're coming for ya.

GOP bumper sticker for 2016: "Hillary is too ugly; Wendy is too purdy." Nothing else. They've got nothing left to sell but anger and resentment. As people increasingly see this, they walk away permanently (as have many of us here).

She lost weight and changed the color of her hair. BFD! I don't know if she had a boob job or not, but if she did, so what? I assume she is a runner since she wore running shoes during her filibuster. My daughter, who is a marathoner, looks considerably better than her college days and she is probably close to Wendy's age. My daughter has done nothing, but lose weight and she is beautiful!

True story. As a young woman, I hardly had enough boobage to bother wearing a bra, and most times I didn't. Then, around 45, without an accompanying weight gain, I suddenly developed boobs. I called it my delayed puberty.

Wow, they suck! Wasn't she a single mom? I am guessing that spending a lot of time and money on her appearance was not as much of a priority for her back then. What assholes. This is so offensive. Fortunately, it will backfire.

Uugghhhh. Can we PLEASE stop focusing on how women look at any given point in their lives as a barometer of whether they are "acceptable" or not?

I find the comment, "....pleasant looking but plain-faced..." to be extremely offensive. I am so angry right now I could spit.

Not that it matters, but how can you tell that she's flat-chested in her yearbook picture?

And is she buxom now? I didn't think so.... she had a jacket on anyway, so what's the big deal?

Maybe it was a humid day on yearbook photo day and her hair frizzed up (like mine has been doing here in the Southeast), and maybe she has since found a great hair product that tames the hair and makes it more sleek.

    Sheesh!

Okay, more artillery fire on women. This is another attack in the War on Women:

    1) Take away their ability to govern their own bodies, by closing the option of abortion AND birth control. Put the power to do so in the hands of men. Vis: Texas, Ohio, North Carolina, Virginia, North Dakota, etc., etc.
    2) When possible, mock a woman. Making people laugh at a female destroys her stature as an equal to men. Vis: Mitch McConnell and Ms. Grimes.
    3) Attack a woman because she's TOO attractive to be taken seriously.
Bring up any out-of-date black-and-white picture, point out that the woman has changed her appearance, which thereby undercuts her reliability as a human being and politician.
    4) Glorify the women already in lockstep with you by highlighting her sexiness. Vis: Sarah Palin.
    5) Tolerate your female allies when they don't fit any of these categories:
Vis. Jan Brewer, Christine O'Donnell, Linda McMahon, etc. They'll do what you want them to do, in order to gain male acceptance and entry into the boys' club of politics.

In all cases, objectify women so that their intelligence and humanity are erased, so that only appearances count. When the man involved look like Mitch McConnell, Rick Perry, John Boehner, Paul Ryan, etc., they must remove any advantage a woman has over a man, in life and in politics.
    They hate and fear women.

They hate and fear women since the demographics are against men. There are more women voters so the repubs/fundamentalists are trying "to keep them in their place" to try to narrow the voting gap. 2014 is going to be a very interesting year.

They hate and fear women, blacks, latinos, gays, the young (open-minded) generation, the poor, the elderly, the handicapped, foreigners, people from different religious backgrounds, intelligent and educated people – and most probably their own wives, girlfriends, children, siblings, parents, and in-laws.

I'm not worried about Wendy Davis' appearance. She's a good looking woman and, well, in 1991, she looked like a much younger version of herself. Yes, the hairstyle and color has changed but that's no big deal in this day and age. What I like about her are her courage, tenacity and obvious intelligence. These are qualities that are totally absent from 21st century Republicans.

0/T -- Happy Alaskan Emancipation Day!

Four years ago today, Sarah Palin announced that she refused to be a dead fish as she quit as Governor, the duties of which she'd sworn to perform, with her hand on a Bible. Instead, she breathlessly said she didn't need any old stinkin' title or the power of a Governor, but was going to work to "progress" [sic] the cause of Alaska as a private citizen.

So far, her efforts amount to mentioning Alaska on three reality shows, for which she and her family collected millions of Alaskan tax dollars, Like O.J. Simpson, who announced that he would travel far and wide to find the real killer of his wife, Sarah has travelled across the country and to foreign lands to carry out her "progress Alaska" agenda, including talking to as many people in Arizona, and at airports, as she can find.

While Sean Parnell is as sketchy and corrupt as Sarah could only imagine to be on a good day, he's still the Governor of Alaska and wields considerable power. He wasn't an improvement over Palin in virtually all aspects, but he hasn't yet quit the job which he'd asked Alaskan voters to give him. He hasn't yet compared himself to a fish, or published ghostwritten puff-pieces about himself.
    There's that.

Some day in the, hopefully, not too distant future, Alaskans will take a long look at Don Young, Sean Parnell and their cronies, and will demand real people who aren't crazy or who haven't enriched themselves by promoting a hollow frontier philosophy while holding out their hands for pay offs. That will be the second Alaskan Emancipation.

Well, gosh. I guess if she isn't a looker, I should just let any old idiot republican jam stuff up my yahoo and call it a day. Golly, if Wendy dyes her hair I guess my body belongs to the GOP. I should just go home, go shoeless and reproduce.

Pure silliness. If you compared me today to my yearbook photos, I look a damn site better despite the years. No plastic surgery, just healthier lifestyle and better styling products. Are they really saying smart women have to be ugly to be credible?

Remember Reagan's jet black hair!! Rmoney had his hair "touched up" but let the sideburns go gray, to make him look distinguished. Too bad he did not have much intelligence. Well, good for our side that he was as dumb as W.

Could someone prove to me puhleeze that Rick Marlboro Man Perry does not use hair dye and that Bob Dole never had plastic surgery? I could name countless other vain, salon-visiting, republican peacock men, but you get my drift: pot-kettle.

  14. I also don't give a damn what she looks like. I often think about what it took for her to filibuster a bill for over 11 hours.

I try to picture myself doing it, and I just don't think I would be able to pull it off. I know of some doctors and nurses working in the OR who have fainted from working in surgeries for several hours. You have to stay in one position, you have to be aware of what you touch so that your hands stay sterile. You can't lean against anything and you can't step outside to eat, drink or go to the bathroom. Try doing that for just about 4 or 5 hours.

You can however, trade off if you begin to feel dizzy or lightheaded. Even doctors will have a back up doctor for long surgeries so they can take a break if necessary.

But Wendy Davis had none of that. She had a pair of running shoes. That's it. What she managed to do is just jaw dropping! If it hadn't all been caught on tape, I would have been skeptical that it was even possible.

She is an amazing woman and a true American hero!
