"What? Yeah, like you all weren't thinking that too!" |
In an interview with the Daily Beast published Friday, Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY) suggested Tea Partiers are the "same group" who fought for segregation during the Civil Rights movement.
“It is the same group we faced in the South with those white crackers and the dogs and the police. They didn’t care about how they looked," Rangel said.
Because of this, Rangel said the Tea Party could be defeated using the same tactics employed against Jim Crow.
"It was just fierce indifference to human life that caused America to say enough is enough. ‘I don’t want to see it and I am not a part of it.’ What the hell! If you have to bomb little kids and send dogs out against human beings, give me a break,” said Rangel.
Ouch! That really hits you right in the old Dixie balls doesn't it?
This of course REALLY upset the Teabaggers, because as we know white crackers hate nothing more than to be called white crackers.
Release the Bachmann!
Charlie Rangel should apologize to tea party members. I'll set up meetings so he can explain his outrageous comments. http://t.co/2cMiZDYkGfUnfortunately for white crackers everywhere Michele Bachmann is quitting her political career in 2014 under a cloud of federal investigations and no Congressman in their right mind would attend any meeting that she might call.
— Michele Bachmann (@MicheleBachmann) August 2, 2013
Besides its not like Congressman Rangel is pointing out anything that most of us have not already noticed on our own anyhow.
After all if it quacks like a duck, spouts racist epithets, makes voting harder for minorities, and goes after social programs which help the poor like a duck, then of course it IS a racist duck, right?
I'm just saying.
P.S. Okay this whole thing is already a day or two old, as is that story about CNN doing their best Fox News impression over Benghazi, and still NOTHING from the Wasilla Wendigo?
Don't tell me she passed out after slamming back vodka Red Bull cocktails again. Doesn't she know how much the white crackers need her?
White crackers respond in outrage in 3..2....Michele Bachmann . That is absolutely hilarious Gryphen !!
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's funny but name-calling is the domain of the right wing, is it not? I would have no objection to the word bigot, racist, idiot or hatemonger though.
DeleteRAM must be on vacation along with the entire House of Reps. Sarah would have to pay her overtime to crawl out of her cave and write something for her to tweet. As for the C4P, if Sarah doesn't express outrage, they haven't even read the story.
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty clear that "tax cuts" and "sequestration" and "cuts in entitlements" are Tea Party code for taking away benefits and rights of minorities.
ReplyDeleteThey're the present incarnation of Nixon's 1968 "Moral Majority." It's racist and just feeds the fat oligarchy that's taken over our country.
Eric Cantor just stated that entitlement "reform" is required -- entitlement "cancellation" -- food stamps, unemployment, health care, 8A housing -- all the programs designed to help the economic bottom of our society.
With the stock market hitting a record high on Friday, with banks pocketing enormous profits, with hedge funders buying up everything they see -- our society isn't capable of paying for the maids, the gardeners, the factory workers, the babysitters, the nursing staff, the restaurant dish washers -- the basic backbone of our rich society, without whose base-level salaries this country could not eat its caviar and Champagne in East Hampton.
Democrats, Progressives, must show these plutocrats that there are more of us than there are of them.
As a lifelong progressive and ardent supporter of Obama and equal rights I must say that Charles Rangel's use of the term "white cracker" was offensive. Are we not better than that?
ReplyDeleteSorry, but Rangel is spot-on. They ARE white crackers, both demographically, geographically, and ideologically. And the sooner the country sees and identifies them as such, the sooner the air can be taken out of their balloon, so to speak. It's time to show that 'the emperor has no clothes'. And he doesn't.
DeleteI don't find it offensive at all, 10:19 AM. How many times have they been called niggers and, even with the Civil Rights movement, still face backlash? This IS what the Tea Party is about. ALL because a black man was elected twice. He's just calling them on it.
DeleteTodd Palin + Ted Nugent = White Crackers.
DeleteRacist, uneducated, prejudiced, lazy, shiftless, entitled. That's what these white supremecists think should rule our precious nation.
Tea & Crackers go together, right ?
DeleteAnonymous 11:33 is LOL funny. That should be a bumper sticker!
DeleteI don't think he should have used the word "cracker" either. I agree with the thought he expressed, and as a white person, I don't really find the term offensive. However, I think racially-charged name-calling is always inappropriate.
DeleteYes, that was exactly my point. When they call us nasty names, we call them nasty names and so on and so on. Rangel should have called them what they are- racists- and followed up with a statement worthy of a US congressman. Does he really want to get down to the level of Michelle Bachmann, Steve King, Louis Gohmert, etc.???
DeleteI just looked up the origin of the word "cracker." Interestingly, it was used as a slur by whites toward other whites.
DeleteSo what? It clearly wasn't said in that context. You're missing the point entirely.
DeleteIt's probably a better word than "honky", and shows the Southern history/pattern of behavior. I live in Maryland, and in some areas we are part of the Northeast, and in others we are very clearly south of the Mason-Dixon line. "Cracker" is a deliberate word choice, and very appropriate from what I've read and seen.
DeleteStrongly agree with Anonymous 10:19. Sorry, Charlie, that's not helping.
ReplyDeleteNot offensive. The term "cracka" is what black slaves used to call white masters who beat them with whips. Cracking the whip.
DeleteThere is a large number of people who actually believe they are entitled to dictate how this country is run. I ran across an email that begins with the premise, "White Christian Men developed this country to make it the greatest in the world. We should return to that leadership." The people promoting that message actually believe it. I fit only one part of that triumvirate, and I am instantly insulted by it. The idea that anyone who fits all three requirements is superior to all others is a good definition of "cracker." The origin of the term is disputed, but I like the definition that characterized owners and overseers who accomplished great works by cracking their whips over black slaves.
ReplyDeleteJust compare "white christian men" such as Todd Palin, Ted Nugent and David Duke to Barack Obama, Wendy Davis, and Tammy Baldwin.
DeleteIn whose hands would you rather put our country? Todd Palin's or Wendy Davis's?
There isn't even a question.
Wendy Davis and Obama do NOT belong in the same sentence. EVER
DeleteNone of those people are racist.
DeleteRangel is not exactly the best example of our Democratic Party. He's a bit shifty and operates more like a Republican than a Dem. Suffice it to say, most politicians are dirty, but Rangel, a bit more than others.
ReplyDeleteHe's a hot head and doesn't think prior to speaking, obviously. There was a much more polite way to frame his argument, but he doesn't operate like that, unfortunately. He has gotten where he is, politically, BECAUSE of his race, and his district supports him year after year regardless of his lack of ethics and tact.
Suffice it to say, Mr. Rangel does not speak for this Democrat.
http://abcnews.go.com/ABC_Univision/Politics/congressman-charlie-rangel-wrong-abuse-tax-system/story?id=19201621
Mr. Rangel speaks for me, a Democrat & he's right.
DeleteShe isn't upset about being called a white cracker. She has no clue what that means. She is pissed that he was so uppity as to talk back and call the tea party racist.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the woman who quit the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Church to go into politics. Who's your God, Michelle? Same as the Palins? Bow down to $$.
DeleteGood for Charlie Rangel. It's about time that people face up to the nastiness that is the TeaParty/GOP of today. These are people who are opposed to everything, no matter how much good it will do for them, just because it also benefits others, including minority groups. We keep tippy-toeing around them, but they are, to a person, mean and nasty puppets of the Koch Brothers. And their leaders in Congress, especially Boehner and McConnell, have been guilty of sedition all because we elected a president who is not as lily white (with maybe a tint of orange) as they are. The majority of Americans rejected them soundly in 2012; they all need to grow up and stop dreaming about moving to or returning to the Deep South of the early 1950's.
ReplyDeleteBeaglemom
=10,000
DeleteYes, times 1000. It's high time that the Koch brothers be called crackers, because that's exactly what they are. Just look at how they've turned Kansas into Brownbackistan, and how they have backwarded other states all throughout the country, through ALEC. It's high time to stop giving them a pass as well. Beaglemom is spot-on, as usual.
DeleteIt's mind boggling that the ultra right wing conservative groups haven't connected the 'entitlement' reductions with their own social security and medicare, which, BTW, aren't entitlements.
ReplyDeleteI HATE the word entitlements. These programs were never called that before and the RW has started using this word and the media and many Democrats followed suit. I really hope someone in the progressive movement makes a concerted organized effort to put a stop to it. But I don't see that happening except for a by a few.
DeleteYes, the word entitlement is more apt for rich white welfare, such as subsidies for big oil, McDonalds, and other multinational corporations, as well as big-ag welfare. THOSE, IMO, are entitlements. The rest of us worked for, and paid into, the system – including the unemployed, who had deductions taken from every paycheck to pay for unemployment insurance and workers' comp.
DeleteUnemployment insurance and workers'comp is paid by the employer. Not one penny of it is paid by the employee.
DeleteVaughnIAM
"Cracker, sometimes white cracker or cracka, is a derogatory term for white people, especially poor rural whites in the Southern United States. In reference to a native of Florida or Georgia, however, it is sometimes used in a neutral or positive context and is sometimes used self-descriptively with pride." (Wikipedia)
ReplyDeleteYou're right--it was too narrow a term. Rangel should have said "white racists."
And you missed the point of Rangel's comments--that we're dealing with the same group of bigots as we were when George Wallace was leading them.
And what does claiming to be an Obama supporter and progressive have to do with a critique of Rangel's comments?
I'm glad Rangel used "white crackers." It got him noticed and we are long past the time for gentility when it comes to the demagogues and terrorists of the Tea Party.
OK, I see his statement made you feel somehow vindicated but, sorry, I still think we should take the high road. Name calling is juvenile. Rangel does not have any problem getting noticed: he has been in Congress for many years and has a mostly excellent reputation. In fact, the words you used to describe the Tea Party-types are ones I'd freely use: demagogues and terrorists... and racists. But, hey, we're democrats and, unlike republicans, we CAN agree to disagree.
DeleteAmused that the ad that came up was for a cheese and cracker board.
ReplyDeleteMaybe this explains the robocall I got inviting me to call in to a "town meeting" with Michelle Bachmann. Since I live in Alaska, I wondered why I would even be on that call-out list.
ReplyDeleteThis from a woman who CONSTANTLY should be apologizing for her over the top, pot stirring, whackcase comments she makes every single day she is in front of a camera. This faux outrage is fucking ridiculous that comes from the right wing party. They are quick to make outrageous comments and no one calls them out on them, and then when a democrat makes them, they get their knickers all in a bunch and scream for an apology. The hypocrisy is gobsmacking!
ReplyDeleteO/T Gina don't you think audrey_l at the pee pond just has to be the crazy lady that said Barack is a Muslim at John mccain's rally? Can't you just see that? They are both racists and bat shat cray cray and have crazy azz blonde hair! See photo in link below!

Wait....that's a WOMAN??? Lord what is up with Baldy's Bots all looking like they just took off their white hooded sheets and then someone took their picture and they made it their avatars! LOL!!!
Ole Audrey_I from "Greensboro, North Carolina" looks just like the "white crackers" that Rangel was talking about!
Ole Audrey probably has a framed picture of herself from her youth screaming at a black student going to an all white school with a thought bubble over it that says..."N-word go HOMEEEE"!
Side note....I went to school from 5th grade through 8th grade in Goldsboro, North Carolina back in 1974....I know what a "white cracker" looks like! LOL!!!
I'm black. He should apologize. That language is unacceptable. It doesn't mean the Republican party doesn't have a race problem. It doesn't mean that they aren't hypocrites who refuse to confront the racism that comes from their own side on a continual basis. It doesn't mean that a significant percentage of tea party people don't hate the fact that there is a black president. But two wrongs don't make a right and this guy just threw another log on the fire instead of helping to put it out. I hate divisiveness, no matter which side it comes from.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, Sarah is spending quality time with her family in Alaska, working hard on that book about Christmas. Been talking directly to Santa at the North Pole and the Baby Jesus in high manger.
ReplyDeleteI love how people here and there are so hateful they cannot tell humor from serious statements. Not saying you have to find it funny, but it's weird you cannot recognize when someone is making a joke.

ReplyDeleteMichele Bachmann wants Rep Charlie Rangel to apologize to the Tea Party for ‘outrageous comments’
August 3, 2013
By Anomaly
Michele Bachmann, who has said some of the most outrageous comments about others, wants Rep. Charlie Rangel to apologize to Tea Party members. Bachmann, a tea party darling, is referring to Rangel’s remarks yesterday in an interview with the Daily Beast. Bachmann has offended just about every group of Americans except for white tea partiers, so if her feelings are hurt then that’s on her.
He said,“It is the same group we faced in the South with those white crackers and the dogs and the police. They didn’t care about how they looked. It was just fierce indifference to human life that caused America to say enough is enough. ‘I don’t want to see it and I am not a part of it.’ What the hell! If you have to bomb little kids and send dogs out against human beings, give me a break.”
BabyCrying
He also referenced House Republicans saying, Terrorists couldn’t do a better job than the Republicans are doing.”
Shit Michele Bachmann signs:
The original “marriage vow” from the Family Leader, unveiled last week, included a line at the opening of its preamble, which suggested that black children born into slavery were better off in terms of family life than African-American kids born today.
Slavery had a disastrous impact on African-American families, yet sadly a child born into slavery in 1860 was more likely to be raised by his mother and father in a two-parent household than was an African-American baby born after the election of the USA’s first African-American President,” read the preamble.
No apology necessary Rep. Rangel.
Why doesn’t she ever answer my tweets?
The Tea Party is the most offensive group we’ve witnessed. They have called our President a Kenyan, because they do not feel a black man could possibly be legitimately eligible to sit in the highest seat in the land. To them, he’s an outsider. His skin makes him a ‘foreigner’. Muslims, the gay population, Latinos, undocumented workers, and others have all been attacked by their acidic vocal cords.
Give us a break and stop playing victim. Bachmann is whining while she disparages others.

God Bless America: 19,884 gun deaths since the Newtown massacre
ReplyDeletehttp://freakoutnation.com/2013/08/02/god-bless-america-19884-gun-deaths-since-the-newtown-massacre-image/
Welcome to America, where men with loaded guns call unarmed citizens “tyrants” and men with Swastika tattoos claim the “other people” are the Nazis …
ReplyDeleteThis is the on-going story of Gilberton, Pennsylvania, a small borough which is living under the constant threat of terroristic violence. Where men with guns block the entrance to public meetings, where public officials openly threaten every member of society who holds a different political view than they do, where councilmen are strip searched and arrested without cause and anyone who tries to fire the Police Chief would be forced to live in fear of retaliation from a militia of armed terrorists. Pennsylvania police chief Mark Kessler is the head of a political organization which refers to itself as “The Constitution Security Force.” Kessler was recently given a thirty day suspension, for using police property as props in a video where he threatens and insults “libtards,” otherwise known as people who hold political views which differ from his own. In a second video, Kessler can also be seen threatening the life of a federal government official, Secretary of State John Kerry.
On August 1st, Kessler called on the militia to attend a meeting of the Gilberton Borough Council, where disciplinary actions against Kessler (for the videos) were being discussed. A State Police helicopter was called to the scene, as more than a hundred armed men and women arrived at the meeting, brandishing AR-15 assault rifles. Armed members of the militia blocked the doors of the public building where the meeting was held, in order to prevent those who wished to speak from entering. According to the Huffington Post, members of the group:
“angrily confronted Michael Morrill of Keystone Progress, who delivered petition signatures from 20,000 Americans who want Kessler fired. In an email Morrill told me, “I have been organizing for four decades. I have faced Klansmen in Kentucky, Ustase in Bosnia and police indiscriminately beating demonstrators in Italy. [Wednesday] night in Gilberton was more frightening than any of those situations.”
Due to mounting tensions and no doubt, concerns over increasing threats of violence from Kessler and his armed political faction, only a small number of residents were given the chance to speak during the meeting. Of those who did speak, however, many said that they themselves, or members of their families, are living in fear of Kessler and his militia.

Matt Bevin, the Tea-Partier challenging incumbent Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) in the Republican primary, called on the five-term senator to "be a man" and "run on his record."
ReplyDelete"I beg him to tell the people of Kentucky anything that he promises to do in the next six years, that he has been somehow unable to get done in the last 30 years," Bevin said Saturday at the Fancy Farm event in Kentucky in an interview with Now This News. "Or one thing in the last 30 years that he is proud enough of that he can actually run on that, as oppose to smearing me and Alison and Ed or anyone else in the race"
Watch the interview below:

I am a white man, been called cracker, honkey, and gringo. No sweat off of my ass, I am a man, no matter what you call me I will treat you the same. Seriously, fuck racism.
ReplyDeleteThe only time I hear racist terms is when my friends and I are goofing around. Even that's a rare occurrence. I grew up in southern Alabama and my fiance works off the Gulf, out of Mississippi/Nawlins. He works with Brits and just hears their dirtiness. No prejudice though.
DeleteWow. Hard to believe that MLK, Jr. was a Republican, and the Dems in Congress fought against integration, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteBoth parties are NOT what they were then. Hillary Clinton was a republican. Bill worked for one as well early on, I believe before he was Gov.
Delete"I'll set up meetings so he can explain his outrageous comments"
ReplyDeleteHold the phone, cancel the party planners, and give Paula Deen the day off. Here, read it again, real slow and follow the words with your finger.
“It is the same group we faced in the South with those white crackers and the dogs and the police. They didn’t care about how they looked," Rangel said.
Because of this, Rangel said the Tea Party could be defeated using the same tactics employed against Jim Crow.

"It was just fierce indifference to human life that caused America to say enough is enough." ~snip~
Rengel is comparing the Tea Party to the "White Crackers" in the South "back in the day", they bombed black churches and schools, released the police and dogs on black people for one reason and one reason only.
Here's a multiple choice, pick one.
A) They were Black
B) They were Black
C) They were Black
look up "Jim Crow"
Are you FOR "Fierce indifference to Human Life"
Rangel told no lies.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry but you KNOW people like Rand Paul & Michele Bachman would be at the forefront of denying black people their civil rights. Paul & Bachmann & their ilk would be on the front lines protesting integration & equal rights. They'd be the ones in the pictures yelling at the black people trying to go to the store or go to the school.
