Indonesia moves to enforce mandatory virginity testing for high school girls.

Courtesy of Atheist Republic:

The move to make virginity testing of high school girl students in Indonesia mandatory has drawn flak from activists, arguing it as discrimination against women and violation of human rights.

Muhammad Rasyid, chief of education in south Sumatra’s Prabumulih district, proposed the idea. Describing it as the best option to protect children against free sex and prostitution, he said that the city budget could be made use of and tests could be started by early next year, if approval was accorded to the proposal by the MPs.

Rasyid was quoted as saying that the virginity test was proposed for the good of the children. He also added that virginity is a right of every woman and students are not expected to commit negative acts.

As per the requirement of the test, female school students in the age group of 16 to 19 years would have to undergo hymen examination every year till they completed their graduation. On the other hand, boys would not be examined to know whether they had sex or not.

Local politicians have supported the proposal as it would be helpful in cutting down the promiscuity raging in the district. However, Agung Laksono, Coordinating Minister for People’s Welfare, ordered the Education Minister Mohammad to reject Rasyid’s proposal.

Islamist Prosperous Justice Party member Hasrul Azwar told Jakarta Post that virginity is sacred and it is disgraceful if a student lost her virginity prior to marriage.

Just in case anybody believed that it was only Fundamentalist Christians who were obsessed with the sex life of teenagers.

Interesting that it is ONLY the girls who have to be subjected to the humiliation of being probed in their private parts every year in order to prove they are still "pure."

Of course how COULD they test a boy to see if he had been sexually active? By the shit eating grin on his face?

I would like to remind you that the entire reason for this obsession about female virginity is due to the ancient misunderstanding which believed that male sperm lived inside of a woman's vagina for months, if not years, and therefore once wed an "impure" woman could give birth to the child from their previous lover rather than the child of the husband. For that reason her virginity, her purity, was considered an object of barter to get the highest bride price possible for her father.

The fact that it is still considered such a precious commodity is a testament to the primitive nature of certain communities around the world.

In 2013 we should be well past such antiquated belief systems. But religion continues to hold too much sway over the simple minded.

I remember reading years ago about a few matriarchal tribes in Africa where a man wouldn't even considering marrying a woman until she popped out a couple of kids to prove she was both fertile and capable of bearing viable children. Didn't matter who fathered the children as they were regarded as the mother's property, not the sperm donors. No wonder the Missionary Corp decided they needed Christianity.

And what's the punishment if they're found not to be a virgin? Public stoning to death?

See Bristol? This is the road your mother's party is headed down. Joan Rivers was right....you would have been called the local slut and exiled.

We are trying to save the girls from the evil people who want a theocracy, like you mother, Sarah, and all the Evangelicals she hangs around with and promotes.

You can thank us later, you twit.

I fully expect this to happen in Perry's Texas as well. The fundies have no problem shouring "small government' on one hand while sticking their other in women's private business. And once again I assume that there is nothing in these regualtions about young men staying chaste? Of course not. Sex is a woman's doing. A woman's responsibility. A woman's curse. No matter her age, a woman having periods can be raped, scoped, told what to do, and even killed for being a woman and being used by a man. This is beyond disgusting. It breaks my heart that we are so backward in 2013. And so far from being equal citizens of the world.

  6. I wonder if this is culture, religion, or just plain greed. After all, aren't daughters sold (via dowrys and such) to the highest bidder? It is amazing to me that many people in the world live this way considering the advances in science and communications.

This judge needs to be disbarred.

"A 54-year old former Montana school teacher who raped a 14-year old student three times in 2008, was given a 15 year prison sentence on Monday with all but one month suspended. Yellowstone County district judge G. Todd Baugh sentenced Stacey Dean Rambold on Monday, but rejected the prosecution’s plea for a longer prison sentence, stating that the girl was “older than her chronological age” and that she was ”as much in control of the situation” as the middle-aged teacher who repeatedly raped her."

The defense attorney argued that the accused lost his job, his wife, his home and was trashed on the internet, poor thing!

Have you read about female circumcisions? Another sick abuse of women also related to religion. Much if the Muslm world is antiquated as far as how women are treated. Some pretty awful things go on.

There are all sorts of female "operations" that are performed all over the world. In general they are called FGM (female genital mutilation) and can be as "minor" as circumcision to as "major" as the total removal of the clitoris and the labia (all four). In some cases the practice involves no pain killers (which used to be common years ago for the guys since it used to be believed there was no pain felt by the kid! (DUH! Why the hell did the kid SCREAM!!!!!???????)

FGM is considered a violation of human rights by the UN and some efforts are being made to eradicate the practice.

But since many of these practices are religiously based (For some ignorant F**king reason!) the practice is expected to continue as long as ignorance and stupidity rule in the locations it is practiced.

Personally, I find the practice of MALE circumcision to be a violation as well, since the male has no say when it is done. And it, too, is religiously based. Recently the practice of male circumcision was banned in Germany, a very bold move. There was such a stink raised that, I believe, the law was rescinded. I'm not too sure about that, however.

To make matters even worse, it is estimated that over 140 MILLION women have suffered this assault world wide.

And all three of the major religions do it in one form or another, and even some non-religious people do it to their kids.

FYI, this is not just a non-Western thing. Princess Diana was forced to undergo an exam like this before being married to Prince Charles. The results were made public. Absolutely sickening.

You know why I hate stories like this? Because some freak in a red state like TX or NC is going to introduce a bill making people who get government assistance or a public school education prove they are virgins before they can get the assistance. You watch for it. The firestorm will start sooner than later.

And then there are those MONSTERS who ROB a child of that most precious...and don't pay any consequences. But the child did.

Former Teacher Who Raped Student, Gets 30 Days Jail

A former Montana high school teacher convicted of raping a 14-year-old female student who later committed suicide will face only 30 days of jail time.

Stacey Dean Rambold, 54, had at least three sexual encounters with student Cherice Morales in 2008. In 2010, the student committed suicide a few weeks before her 17th birthday, The Billings Gazette reported.

Yellowstone County Judge G. Todd Baugh sentenced Rambold to 15 years prison, with all but only 31 days suspended for sexual intercourse without consent. The judge then gave Rambold credit for one day served, bringing the offender's total jail time to just 30 days.

Auliea Hanlon, mother to the victim, testified that her daughter's relationship with Rambold was a large factor in the teen's suicide. As the sentence was delivered, Hanlon began to scream "You people suck!" before leaving the courtroom.

The judge said victim Morales was "as much in control of the situation" as Rambold, according to Time.com.

This is the hateful vicious asshattery that the Taliban in the USA is spewing, and I guarantee you that what goes on out of the public eye is a WHOLE FUCKING LOT WORSE.

I would not doubt for a minute that young girls are forcibly examined for their "virginity" by some American Christian cults before marriage.

I know for a fact that some Christians in the USA force their children into a virtual slavery, i.e, the "Quivering" movement, in which girls and young women can't hold a job, can't go to public school OR COLLEGE, and whose only purpose in life is to marry and breed.

We may not have honor killing in the USA (Yet) but the similarities between the extreme cults of Islam and Christianity are many and accurate.

I noticed only ONE mention of the fact that sex is NOT the only way for a hymen to break!

Are they going to refuse a girl an education simply because she lost her hymen in an auto accident? Or playing tag or any other sort of physical exercise? Kick her out of school? Stone her?

Ignorance is ignorance and stupidity only amplifies it! Fortunately, in this case, the "idea" is being panned a LOT! And it was the last time someone "suggested" it, too. (2010?)

As long as this kind of thinking is extant, trash like this will continue.

My Grandmother came from a small, catholic, agricultural hilltown in southern Italy. They had a similar, though less strict, "virginityg test". On the morning after the honeymoon, the bride would present the sheets with visible blood stains to her Mother In Law, who would then (iiiiccckkkk) DISPLAY the "Proof" over a balcony railing so everyone could see for themselves, that the bride was a virgin.

Years later, I noticed in photos that ALL brides wore these HUGE Broaches on their wedding gowns or huge hat pins. Remarkably, 100 percent of brides were virgins, and grooms were so proud, they wore band aids on their index finger ;)

This was a custom, and not codified into law because of the possibility of rampant virginity test fraud.

  20. I guess women in Indonesia aren't allowed to use tampons either.

Funny how they are so obsessed with keeping some of their girls pure, but will sell others to into sex trafficking.
