I love making this point to Fundamentalists.

I also like pointing out the benefits to medicine, botany, biology, anthropology, ichthyology, herpetology, bacteriology, ornithology, and I could go on and on.

And I sometimes do.

Sim-ply put, Evolution has been one of the MOST important scientific breakthroughs to come along in hundreds of years.

Not bad for something that is nothing more than "a theory."

Oh, but these folks don't get flu shots...it's the government trying to make us zombies, or kill us, dontcha know? And aren't those shots 'free' with Obamacare? Those poor lazy liberals don't deserve that free stuff. Let them be sick.

  2. I have heard some really stupid arguments against evolution but this is probably the BEST I've heard FOR evolution.

It's truly a shame that a virus can evolve faster than a human.

Neither "a virus" nor "a human" evolves. Populations evolve.

So, 8:42, that didn't keep it from being a teachable moment. Not for you, of course, but for fundagelical readers.

One problem, Gryphen, but it's a big one.

They have to believe there ARE such things as microbes before they will even consider this argument. Not that they would anyway!

I'd highly recommend Richard Dawkin's book "The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution" to anyone that hasn't read it.

Don't believe in microbes? Here have some of this mayo that's been out on the counter in 90 degree heat for two days. Sorta guaranteed to make a believer outta ya - about three hours into praying to the porcelain, with an all exits OUT, no waiting case of food poisoning.

They will say it doesn't PROVE microbes exist. Only that bad food makes you sick. OR that god wanted the eater sick.

Try CONVINCING them it was microbes that made the food bad? Good luck!

I don't get flu shots. it's not because I don't think they work, I know that they do. I'm just lazy.

and ive been pretty lucky, haven't gotten the flu in years. I can't stress the importance of proper hand washing!

Hhhmmm. Don't spend too much time in crowded situations during flu season, do you?

Proper hand washing does NOT protect you from air-born viruses!
