Sen. John McCain suggested in an interview that he might not run for another term - and then backtracked on Twitter.
“The president and I, he’s in his last term, I’m probably in mine, the relationship we have had over the past three years is quite good. Quite good,” McCain, 77, said to supporters while being interviewed by The Wrap on Thursday.
When asked whether this would indeed be his final term by the publication, McCain (R-Ariz.) said he has “to decide in about two years.”
“Nah, I don’t know. I was trying to make a point. I have to decide in about two years so I don’t have to make a decision. I don’t want to be one of these old guys that should’ve shoved off,” McCain said.
Later McCain seemed to think better of it and sent off this tweet yesterday:
To clarify: I've long said I'll wait a few yrs before thinking about whether to seek reelection in 2016. Focused on our present challengesYeah he may try to cover his ass on this, but I tend to think he is more than ready to call it a career at this point.

Especially since the Arizona Republicans recently rebuked him for doing his job:
The Legislative District 26 Republican Party in Arizona has spoken, and they’re not happy with Sen. John McCain. The group issued a sharp and formal written rebuke of their senator, calling his work across party lines — particularly with Democratic Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid — destructive to GOP party principles.
In a resolution, the group charges Mr. McCain with “unilaterally negotiate[ing] with … Reid to secure Republican votes necessary to pass a number of controversial presidential nominees,” Breitbart.com reported.
Yeah how DARE the Senator put the needs of his constituents ahead of partisanship occasionally!
You know I almost hate to say it but he might as well walk away, especially considering that no matter HOW much longer he spends in the Senate, he will forever be known as the guy who tapped Sarah Palin to run on the 2008 presidential ticket with him.
And with THAT as your legacy, why bother even trying anymore?
He is old and senile, not to mention a lifelong of serious mental problems. His stress with the Palin mess he created is taking a toll on him. He wishes he was dead but can only say retirement.
ReplyDeleteHe wants the world to know how confused he is. Anything he says about foreign policy is best ignored as the mumbling of the insane.
John McCain's 2008 blunder is probably the only thing that will hit the history books in 20 years. Picking an incompetent sociopath for vice president candidate was a fitting end to a worthless career.
DeleteI don’t want to be one of these old guys that should’ve shoved off,” McCain said."

Oh, honey, that ship sailed long ago.
My thoughts exactly. He should have retired after 2008.
DeleteSpot on, Nefer!
DeleteMcCain changes his political position as often as the weather changes. Now, he's retiring or he is not retiring. I think that McCain needs a good medical checkup, maybe with to see if he is slipping a few gears. Of course, the earliest sign that his brain was running on "low" was back in 2008 when he picked Palin as his VP running mate.
ReplyDeleteHe probably has melanoma mets - they spread to the brain.
DeleteYet he remains a mainstay on political opinion shows. I quit listening to him a decade ago.
DeleteIt's way past time that John McCain retires. He's not a smart man, has a very checkered past, had the opportunity of a good education by ranked in the bottom of his class, picked the idiot Sarah Palin to be his running mate, had affairs on wives, got rid of one because she was sick and on and on.
ReplyDeleteAZ can have you Johnny boy! Way past time to enjoy retirement on your wife's money and the bennies you'll pull from government! The majority across the nation are really sick and tired of you....Palin will be the worst part of your legacy...IF you have one at all!
I'm sure Cindy will love having the old geezer around full-time!
DeleteHe would live out of state to care for his mother or something. No chance can Cindy take him full time. I doubt it was in their arrangement.
DeleteI think Cindy took care of Old Johnny Boy by having many different houses. He didn't even know how many houses he had - so I think he may not know where they are.
DeleteGoodbye and good riddance, Sen. McCain. You have done much more harm than good to your country (think one deranged half-term AK governor.) You had a LONG run and it's time to go. Few of your colleagues will be sorry to see you retire. Your GOP has big and crazy plans that won't include you. Thank you for your consideration.
ReplyDeleteNo John, the people of AZ won't let you just give your senate seat to sarah. I know you have to give her hush $$ but you can't just give someone a senate seat...maybe you and cindy lou can campaign your little butts off for her though.
ReplyDeleteDie already McLame!
ReplyDeleteI don't like McCain any more than you do but that's just rude.
DeleteYou can think it all you want, that is polite.
DeleteUh mo it is not. THe world will be a better place when he is gone. Dick Cheney also too. What are you SPHASH, the tho0ught police??
DeleteIn my classes it seems I was failin'
ReplyDeleteIn the Hotel Hanoi I was ailin'
Between pussy and booze
I just wanted to lose
So chose as my mate fucking Palin!
-John McCain
McCain needs to go off to one of his houses and yell at kids on his lawn. sez an AZ voter.
ReplyDeleteJohnny Boy can't retire now. After all the awful work he's done over the years, Keating, Bomb Bomb Bomb Iran, choosing Sarah Palin as VP candidate, etc he's gotta repair his image first.
ReplyDeleteHey I got a great Idea, Spill everything you know about Sarah and her various "gates", apologize to the American People and the World, then retire and chase Cindy from room to room from house to house 24/7/365.
"America First", my ass, your name will forever be linked with Sarah Palin. If there is a hell, that's it!
He'd do better to retire on his own than to be beat by an opponent or be retired by his constituents.
