President Obama says he has not smoked in six years. The reason? He's scared of his wife.

Arguably the most powerful man on the planet, yet even he knows not to argue with his wife when it comes to his health and the health of his family.

I have a lot of smokers in my family, most of them dead now, so I totally support Michelle's hard line on keeping her husband from engaging is such a disgusting habit.

However from all indications they have a very loving relationship so I am sure that he is exaggerating the fear part just a little.

Or, maybe not.

Wonderful! Bet it happens more often than reported. It happened in my kid's high school after one of those "Career Day" things, good thing the kid who found it had the sense to guard the stall while his friend got a teacher.

First was the big anti-Obamacare rally that was supposed to attract thousands and barely dozens showed up. Then the Benghazi rally that went bust, and now we have rabid right winger Klayman looking for his 15 minutes of fame over his hate for our president.

Conservative Attorney Larry Klayman Sets Date For Coup Against Obama

The conservative attorney and birther who called for a coup against President Barack Obama earlier this month has scheduled what he's describing as a "day of reckoning."

Larry Klayman wrote Monday in Renew America that he's established Nov. 19 as the date that Obama will be forced to answer for his "criminality" and "Muslim, socialist, anti-Semitic, anti-Christian, anti-white, pro-illegal immigrant, pro-radical gay and lesbian agenda."

Klayman said he hopes his supporters will "descend on Washington, D.C., en masse, and demand that [Obama] leave town and resign from office if he does not want to face prison time."

A loving wife WILL put the fear into her husband and that's because she DOES love him. And as far as I am concerned, if there is a man who ISN'T afraid of his wife ABOUT SOMETHING LIKE THIS, in my book, HE doesn't really love HER!

"But I also believe that we can rarely achieve these objectives through unilateral American action, particularly through military action. Iraq shows us that democracy cannot simply be imposed by force"

"The United States and Iran have been isolated from one another since the Islamic revolution of 1979. This mistrust has deep roots. Iranians have long complained of a history of U.S. interference in their affairs and of America’s role in overthrowing the Iranian government during the Cold War"

That scared him so he stopped. Good for Michelle. It shows how much she loves him and how important his continuing good health is to her and to their daughters.)

Backing up her word salad with more word salad and sayin' things like she "stood up agains city Governors" here in Alaska. It was a spew, She started off sleepy but then became manic. I'm very uncomfortable watching it as she doesn't know how to deal with all the shit that has come her way in the past few days. However, she could fix her mental illness as soon as she realizes that she has it. I'm certain her doctors have addressed it. Classic case of self medication.

Good for President Obama! It's a tough road, quitting smoking but we have added incentive here in AK as smokes are $9.70 per pack and hubs and I are pack a day each; I can think of better ways to spend $20 per day! We're going back to e-cigs and will hopefully quit those within a year. It's a hell of an addiction, one of the worst and I applaud anyone that can kick it.

be careful. They are not healthy either. Unlike prescription nicotine patches, no electronic cigarettes have been approved for therapeutic use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
      http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/-study-says-e-cigarettes-contain-carcinogens-similar-to-regular-cigarettes--205045093.html

They are not taxed, they are not regulated and they can be advertised on TV etc. and the tobacco industry has invested millions of dollars in them to keep you addicted.

just stop. stop buying cigs, and dont bum any either. not denying that nicotine is extremely addictive, its not nearly as hard to quit as people like to claim, if you really mean it. its the habitual routines that suck you in. i wouldn't recommend the e-cigs- you don't quit the routine. just quit it all and deal with the withdrawals for a short bit.

And good for the First Lady putting her foot down, although I'm sure in a loving way. Smoking affects everyone in a family, in many ways. She has every right.

I know, I'm a smoker trying to quit.

      Delete
    4. Have to disagree with 1.31pm "It is not as hard to quit as people like to claim"

I went "cold turkey" and it was ghastly - I doubled my weight & now have all the health problems that induces, I ate every time I craved a cigarette & 7 years later I still crave a cigarette. Might be easy for some, it was not easy for me.

      Delete
    5. Anonymous2:26 PM

Again, a quote from 1:31pm: ["just stop. stop buying cigs, and dont bum any either. not denying that nicotine is extremely addictive, its not nearly as hard to quit as people like to claim, if you really mean it. its the habitual routines that suck you in. i wouldn't recommend the e-cigs- you don't quit the routine. just quit it all and deal with the withdrawals for a short bit."]

Obviously coming from a NON smoker. :) I mean this with all due respect.....it is the HARDEST addiction to quit. I smoked for a few years and yes, I DID quit cold turkey ONCE, when I found out unexpectedly that I was pregnant, in 1976. I did not smoke again until my divorce in 1985. Why did I start again? A "girl's night out" celebrating said divorce.....totally hooked once again. It IS worse than cocaine or heroin as the "withdrawal" is not "painful" just annoying. So it is so easy to just grab another smoke to get that buzz. It's stinky, nasty, disgusting, etc., but to just say to someone "just stop", well, you must be WAY so much of a better person right? :) And yes, I did quit again after 33 years. But I would NEVER just tell another smoker to "just stop, quit buying them, quit bumming them" and then sit on my high horse, as I truly know how difficult it is. IT WAS THE DIFFICULT ADDICTION to overcome in my entire life.

      Delete
    6. Anonymous2:35 PM

I have to disagree with 1:31 also
Are you kidding? You aren't a smoker I assume. They are filled with addictive chemicals, and people spend billions trying to quit. The effects of quitting are even horrendous, withdrawal, food cravings, etc.
I will agree that it is probably different for everyone,
      though. But certainly not easy.

Quiting was really tough on me. I had to have the patch AND a prescription for Welbutrin. Took me a few months, too. Of course, I smoked for 38 years, too! Quiting was THE hardest thing I have ever done. BAR NONE. And I gained over 80 pounds after I quit.

Yes, some people can quit by simply laying them down and walking away. Nowhere near most people, however.

1:32? Keep at it. It DOES get better! And for the most part after about 10 years most of the effects are gone - at least that's what most doctors I have heard say, anyway.

Keep thinking of the $$$$$$$$$ you'll save. That helps, too!

wow. harshness 2:26. well- i have been a smoker and really enjoy the copenhagen too. quit several times over the years & def was not a light smoker and was addicted when i did. ei searching for half cig butts on the patio or on the ground when i ran out, grabbing a smoke at lunch, first thing when i got home from work.... and it is most def intensified during times of stress- esp relationship stress. and i agree that it isnt the easiest habit to give up, and many people experience weight gain, extreme anxiety, paranoia etc... when giving up nicotine. but- i maintain the best way to quit- is just to quit it all at once and change all your routines that used to involve a smoke. btw i dont think im a better person than you or 2:04 or 1:00.

    10. "its not nearly as hard to quit as people like to claim, if you really mean it."

Absolutely wrong. I'm a biologist and the addictive effects of nicotine on biochemical systems are stronger than those of heroin.

      Delete
    11. Anonymous4:21 PM

I have known people that quit cold turkey and people that quit gradually over a year and they are still smoke free. People are DIFFERENT! There's both physical and psychological aspects to the addiction, which impact people differently.

I'm lucky enough to dislike the smell of stale burnt tobacco, so I didn't start smoking. But I do believe most people can find a way to quit that works for them.

"I'm a biologist!" Bully for you Nefer Mr. Biologist!

Nicotine is highly addictive and is often cited as being equally or more addictive than heroin and other addictive drugs- but it is a joke to think the DT's from quitting nicotine is anywhere close to the DT's of quitting a true heroin habit. I'll agree with others here that quitting drugs has different effects for different folks, some methods of quitting may work better for some, and I do wish all the 'quitters' the best of luck.

Quitting smoking is easy. I quit for eight hours every day when I smoked two packs a day. I tried everything under the sun.
Chantix, the anti smoking drug? Stay as far away from that shit is worse than poison. The withdrawal symptoms are a worse nightmare than cold turkey.
I finally quit cold turkey six years ago, it was the hardest thing I've ever done, and I'm a cancer survivor.

My husband actually quit with e-cigs. He weaned himself off regular cigs, then switched to non nicotine vapor for a few months and has been off everything for four months.

Whoever said it's like heroin is right. My doctor explained it to me and made the same comparison.

If you're looking for a way to quit smoking.... I smoked a pack-a-day at the beginning and finally, at the end, I was up to 2 packs-a-day.

If I may so humbly recommend- Allen Carr's EASYWAY material (book and/or audiobook and/or movie and/or clinic- some items of which can even be found, for free, online)- worked superbly for me.

I quit smoking a month and a half ago, and it worked like a frickin' light switch. Couldn't quit, couldn't quit... watched an hour and change long film... not a single pang or urge to smoke since.

I don't mean to spam or commercialize, and I don't blame you for not approving this, but as a desperate smoker who despaired of ever being able to actually quit smoking and then finding this near-miraculous cure... well... I just wanted to share the word if anyone is looking.
