Courtesy of My Desert:
Rep. Devin Nunes, a conservative Republican from California’s Central Valley, on Monday accused freshman GOP Sen. Ted Cruz of lying to House Republicans that they could dismantle the Democratic health care reform law known as Obamacare by forcing a government shutdown.
Nunes, R-Tulare, said the strategy pursued by Cruz, a Texas freshman, and to a lesser extent Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, is “based on a false premise” because Republicans can’t get two-thirds votes in the House and the Senate to override President Barack Obama’s veto when he rejects any bill that ends his signature law.
Obama and the Democratic-majority Senate have refused to entertain any legislation passed by the GOP-majority House that would overhaul, change, delay or end the health care law. The partial shutdown is nearly a week old with no deal to end it in sight.
Nunes said Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, has run into a wall of opposition from Cruz’s House allies to any shutdown-averting deal.
“It’s really difficult at this time until the Cruz people decide and admit to our base that their whole premise of getting rid of Obamacare by shutting down our government was a lie,” Nunes said. “This is his strategy that he’s laid out, spent money on and he’s got a lot of members of the Congress to go along with.”
Cruz’s office didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.
Well it is good to finally see a Republican talking honestly about what Cruz and his lackeys are doing.
Now if only the REST of the Republicans would join him, we might actually be able to save the damn country!
However before we get too excited it should be noted that Nunes is already walking back his previous statement in which he said he would support a clean funding bill if it were brought to the House floor.
I guess finding courage within the Republican is becoming harder than finding birth control in a Palin household.
As for Cruz I think Saturday Night Live hit it right on the head this last weekend.
Where is Homeland Security when you need it?
"Rep. Devin Nunes...accused freshman GOP Sen. Ted Cruz of lying to House Republicans that they could dismantle...Obamacare by forcing a government shutdown."
ReplyDeleteOh, please, Nunes, you whiny moron. It was YOUR JOB to know and understand the consequences of any legislative actions undertaken by the House.
Whining and pointing fingers at the big kid that told us we should do it and nothing bad would happen just doesn't cut it, you incompetent jackass.
You and everyone of your seditious pals should be run out of Congress on a rail.
It's sweet to see them playing the blame game, though. snipe away, gentlemen.
DeleteAll right, Nefer! You have a great way of cutting through the bullshit.
ReplyDeleteShouldn't Nunes been smart enough to realize that it was all a sham before we get over a week into the federal government shutdown brought to us by Nunes and his pals? The entire GOP is guilty of trying to bring down the country and it is indeed sedition and it's been going on since January 2009. They worked hard enough at it when Bill Clinton was president and they've doubled down on their efforts since President Obama was inaugurated. And now, they're desperately trying to distance themselves from themselves. Good luck with that!
ReplyDeleteBeaglemom
Yesterday on Martin Bashir's program, he played two videos of Ted Cruz. In the first video, Cruz denied saying that his side was winning. In the next video, Cruz said that they were winning (as if this is some kind of demonic game). While people might be fooled by him, the video cameras captured him saying two completely opposite things.

But they knew that from the beginning! God these guys are such tools! You can't tell me that the senior members of the House didn't damn well know what the freshman member was telling them was horse shit! So, Mr. Congressman, what you are saying is either a) your a dumb shit who doesn't understand the Constitution, your oath of office, and how your job is supposed to work, or b) you are a lying SOB. I suppose there could be a c) both a) and b)....
ReplyDeleteAs in, All of the above! Actually, the more quotes I hear from these Congresscritters, the more I'm convinced that they really DON'T know how their government works, because of either laziness or sheer stupidity. And the problem is -- you can't fix either one. They (or their congressional staff) listen to one of their many demagogues and never even bother researching to see if what they're hearing is fact. Batshit Bachmann is the perfect example. Even the folks at NPR are using her as the occasional joke for spouting off before fact-checking.
DeleteFrom way up here in the Great White North, we all fear for you folks, and also fear that the recklessness of the shutdown and the potential default will devastate us and our neighbours throughout the world.
I think you've missed another possibility.
DeleteThere seems to be such an incredible level of hubris in some of these members that I think they KNOW what the rules and procedures are but just assume that those rules don't apply to them.
That they feel absolutely no guilt about potentially destroying the economy of our country (and possibly the world) in order to further their own careers is truly mindboggling! In fact, the knowledge that they can cause such severe devastation and hardship for hundreds of millions of people only seems to feed their arrogance.
The Cruz missile has now gone nuclear. Ever wonder what it would be like to live in a dystopian society? A few years after our default on the national debt, brought to you by Carnival Cruz and the Tea Party, you will be able to experience it first hand.
ReplyDeleteIt is jaw dropping that so many Republicans can't add.
ReplyDeleteOr are completely uninformed about the Constitution.
Or are unaware of the political make up of the three branches of government.
Ted Cruz and his cohorts played on that ignorance.
Cruz never reminded the cult members that the House of Representatives
is almost 50 % Democrat .
201 Democrats / 232 Republican.
217 votes are the simple majority required to pass most bills.
They all act as if the House is 100 % Tea Party.
Limbaugh and Levin know this ,but, are sleazy and deceptive enough to pretend otherwise.
I think Palin and Hannity are just too dumb to know the truth.
Then we get to the math of the Senate.
It was 45 Reps to 55 Dems ( thanks to the 5 losing Tea Party
Senate candidates in 08 and 12 )
until Sen Lautenberg passed.
At present, Republican appointee Sen Chiesa is holding the NJ Senate seat until Cory Booker wins,
so right now it's 46-54.
Cruz would have needed the votes of every Republican , plus 5 Senate Democrats to defund Obamacare.
When Barack Obama vetoed the bill-as every sane person knows he would- in order to override that veto, it would require 66 Senate votes .
A total of 21 Senate Democrats now joining Republicans.
This bizarre scenario pushed by the RW Whacko birds as truth goes beyond fantasy into sheer derangement.
Cruz and the Heritage Foundation and the rest of this bunch of lying scumbags repeatedly said that a simple shutdown would automatically guarantee defunding.
And they all said that Barack Obama would sign the defunding bill.
The cult bought it hook , line and sinker, which is veeeery scary because these robots can be programmed
apparently to believe anything.
Elected Republicans knew better , even Cruz did.
Instead of trying to reorient the cult back to reality,
the elected Republicans indulged
their maniacal delusions.
I know a lot of conservatives who are aghast that being a conservative or Republican
now means following the cult.
The numbers of registered Dems and Indys should soar from the fleeing Republicans .
These unwell Tea Party Cruz / Palin cultists are going to be even more enraged when their fantasy does not become reality.
Which should alarm sane Republicans and Democrats.
I like your astute assessment... keep going!
DeleteI have to say that you are not quite 100% accurate.
DeleteI would be willing to bet that a vote of only 66 could be challenged in court as insufficient. 66 is LESS than 2/3! Two thirds would be 66.66. Since there is no such thing as two thirds of a Senator, that would mean they would need 67 votes!
Leland, your math is off.
DeleteSix Ted Cruzezes combined isn't even HALF a senator. In fact, I wouldn't trade an entire 55 gal drum, jam packed, full to the rim, of Ted Cruzes for any more than, at MOST, 2 "Ayn" Rand Pauls. And frankly, I wouldn't trade a warm bucket of spit for 10 Rand Pauls and, say... 25 Ted Cruzes. A more worthless bunch of seditious opportunists you're unlikely to find.
At least south of Alaska, that is.....
Only slightly O/T:
ReplyDeleteThe Koch Bros' holdings are so diverse that they are practically immune from boycotts. However, they do own Georgia-Pacific which makes a number of popular consumer products.
Here's the paragraph from the Koch's Wikipedia entry:
"Georgia-Pacific is a paper and pulp company that produces "Brawny" paper towels, "Angel Soft" toilet paper, "Mardi Gras" napkins and towels, "Quilted Northern" toilet paper and paper towels, "Dixie" paper plates, bowls, napkins and cups, "Sparkle" paper towels, and "Vanity Fair" paper napkins, bowls, plates and tablecloths. The Atlanta-based company has operations in 27 states."
In condensed form, here are the Koch-owned brands:
"Brawny", "Angel Soft", "Mardi Gras", "Quilted Northern", "Dixie", "Sparkle", and "Vanity Fair"
Again, that's "Brawny", "Angel Soft", "Mardi Gras", "Quilted Northern", "Dixie", "Sparkle", and "Vanity Fair"
Perhaps this is something for patriotic Americans to remember when they're shopping for products in these categories.
This isnt my Facebook page, but you get the idea:

Thank you, Beldar! You hit the target, even without your usual creative spark!

Thanks Beldar. Every little bit helps
Sorry. Sorry. Really sorry about that. (From a Canadian)
