Courtesy of Mother Jones:
Up until now, Oath Keepers has mainly been a bunch of pissed-off white dudes talking tough and holding meetings and rallies and so forth, but now the group is setting out to train Special Forces-esque "civilian preservation teams" to contend with the apocalyptic future they see coming to America. "We are flat running out of time and we need to get as prepared as possible as fast as possible," the group's founder, a lawyer named Stuart Rhodes, wrote to the group's members. The Daily Beast's Caitlin Dickson has the update:
"We think this is what Americans should do anyway, but now we see that we're seriously in a vulnerable position because most Americans don't," Rhodes told The Daily Beast. "After Hurricane Katrina and Sandy, we saw Americans dependent on FEMA, on a government that can't do anything. People have been desperate, vulnerable to crime and vulnerable to dying" in such emergency situations, he said.
But it's not a natural disaster that Rhodes thinks will catapult the country into chaos. In his email announcing the launch of the plan, Rhodes lays out the course of action he predicts "the enemy"—the government—is preparing to follow, including "intentionally triggering a catastrophic economic collapse" as a means of creating disorder that they will then use as an excuse to impose martial law, destroy the constitution and use the billions of dollars in ammunition, armored vehicles and weapons he claims the Department of Homeland Security and local police have been stockpiling "to control and contain us."
Rhodes, who has been somewhat measured in the past, is now straying into serious wack-job territory. The group's rhetoric is also pretty disingenuous, given Oath Keepers' tight relationship with the tea party movement, whose faction in Congress is the one holding a gun to America's head and threatening to put the economy at serious risk. (It's perhaps also worth noting that American civilians already pack far more heat than the government does.)
A glimpse at the Oath Keepers' website will tell you what this is really all about: A large graphic bearing the president's face reads: "Snowden Honored His Oath...Honor Yours! Stop Big Brother!" And the site's "featured" posts include: "Mr. Obama, Tear Down Those Walls! Veterans, Oath Keepers, and Friends Tear Down 'Barrycades' In D.C.," which faults the White House for the closure of the WWII Veterans Memorial in DC while featuring a photo of tea party leader Ted Cruz—one of the federal shutdown's primary architects—speaking to the protesters as though he were some kind of hero.
They vilify the President, whole deifying Ted Cruz, and they are heavily armed and military trained. And the sign for action that they are looking for as an excuse to take up arms against the government, "intentionally triggering a catastrophic economic collapse," is an action actively being pursued by the Tea Party faction of the Republican party.
Does anybody want to disagree with me about my Bill Maher post from yesterday now?
Believe me that just because we finally got a deal to reopen the government, and avoid default, these assholes are not going to suddenly be placated.
Their hatred for this President is deeply ingrained, and it will only take one or two more instances, that the Right Wing can unfairly or not lay at the President's door, for one of these wackos to break off from the pack and make a serious attempt on his life.
In my opinion this group, which openly attempts to convince military and law enforcement personnel to disregard their orders if they come from the President, are a domestic terrorist organization and they need to be treated as such. Because they ARE dangerous, and they ARE advocating a violent response to the government.
In Alaska we had our own "Oath Keeper" and we did what was needed to render him impotent. I think it behooves the Federal government to take a similar approach in dealing with this group of terrorists.

Made up of radicalized ex-military members, the Oath Keepers have decided to train their own "Special Forces" in response to the upcoming "Apocalypse." Do I even need to mention that they hate Obama?

...while deifying ?
ReplyDeleteCoincidently, Ted Cruz Caves But Lays Groundwork For GOP Civil War. The Oath Keepers will be able to move in and shoot things up if old Ted doesn't get his way in the future.

Thankfully, the NSA, HLS, FBI, CIA, and Secret Service have multiple layers . . . that these armed anarchists would do well not to incite.
ReplyDeleteBut if the feel the need to exert some testosterone, by all means, let them put the "junk" in the trucks. They've not seen anything yet . . . and making "examples" outta a few of these loose screws is exactly what is needed! So bring it . . .
An eye for an eye, right?
I, for one, FEAR NOT.
They are like any other gang. All puffed up and when the shit hits the fan it is a lot of innocent victims that are dead or injured.
ReplyDeleteAren't there some empty cells available now down at ol' GITMO?
ReplyDeleteWhen does it become sedition*?
ReplyDelete*Sedition.
"In law, sedition is overt conduct, such as speech and organization, that is deemed by the legal authority to tend toward insurrection against the established order. Sedition often includes subversion of a constitution and incitement of discontent (or resistance) to lawful authority."
Wiki
I'd say they are flirting with that definition.

Here in AK our "oathkeeper" types paid for their crimes:
ReplyDeleteShaeffer Cox- 26 years
Lonnie Vernon - 25 years
Karen Vernon - 12 years
Coleman Varney - 5 years
What say you Oathkeeper types? You willing to give up half your life behind bars for being a domestic terrorist?
Almost 40% reporting in #NJSen, #Booker is slowly pulling away, 55-44. (It's going to be a humiliating loss for Palin's Lonegan.)
ReplyDeletePromise Keepers from the 90's worried me, but they were just righteous Christian men, these guys are armed to the teeth and rooting for the breakdown of civilization so that they can lord their power over us.
ReplyDeleteUh, Katrina was Bush's failure, didn't see you guys rising up against the guy who fucked that up as well as sent you to Iraq an Afghanistan. This I ask of any President Obama critic, why now and not before?
ReplyDeleteHow very odd. I read about the Oath Keepers, in some detail, just this very morning here - http://austinisafecker.wordpress.com/2013/10/16/sarah-palin-pallin-around-with-terrorists-the-tea-party-and-the-oath-keepers/
ReplyDeleteI can barely stand to read about these bastards.
ReplyDeleteThese are the favorites of "virginiagentleman"--that rascist, cowardly, traitor over at C4P. He was always crowing that they were standing guard over him at the hospital (they were not), that they were the lean steely eyed ones standing next to Palin at the memorial last Saturday (they were not) and he calls almost daily for them to lead armed sedition against the US.
On many occasions, VG has accused serving officers in the US military of being traitors if they follow orders from their commander in chief and do not resign!
(He also had the gall to berate the DC police for doing their jobs at the memorial protest.)
I always see VG as enormously fat and living in an alchohol fueled and obscene fantasy of carnage while claiming he just wants to enjoy nature and commune with his "creator."
There were Oath Keepers acting as 'marshals' at that rally...in some of the pics you can see them...and also a couple standing around SP when she was harping at the crowd.
DeleteThey have on black shirts with the Oath Keeper logo either mid-chest or above the left pocket...for a couple you will notice the name on the back strap of their 'gimme' hat.
When I noticed that two US Senators had allowed themselves to be photographed standing right in front of big, billowing black Oath Keepers flags, I started checking for evidence of them in the crowd. Would not be surprised if they were amongst the original planners of the event. Was actually kind of hoping they would be some of the ones to denounce Palin, Cruz et al for hi-jacking their event.
Aurora
ps VG is such a puzzler and a disappointment . He writes very well and lyrically about his morning experiences and then just starts frothing at the mouth. We had a couple of cordial exchanges maybe two years ago, but once I read him denouncing the President, and his wife, in vile vile language...I just could not continue.
Really made me heart-sick...and also to wonder if his hate hasn't contributed to his own heart disease!
Thanks, Aurora. I did see Oath Keepers in some shots, but they weren't the lean, fit, graying ramrod straight folk VG was describing. They looked like rotund cretins.
DeleteGotcha there!

Is Track Palin an Oath Keeper?
Delete,Actually, he's probably some SMO guy living in his Mom's basement and hasn't had contact with a living female in about 20 years.
DeleteWow! You guys have been drinking the kool aid, haven't ya? I suggest you check out Oath Keepers for yourselves.
DeleteYou will see that we are non-partisan, and only want to see the Constitution respected.
If you don't think we are in trouble, you need to wake up.
HillBillE
Booker for the win!
ReplyDeleteThese creeps are scary. They are terrorists!
ReplyDeleteLook at how Palin is linked to the Oath Keepers.
ReplyDeleteIt is tenuous, but...

I, for one, welcome our teabagger overlords. Just stay off my land. I have guns, too.
ReplyDeleteLove how these douche bags always think they have/are some kind of authority over others. In a catastrophe they'd be the first to die for that shit
ReplyDeleteSpeaking as someone who served in the Army, seeing these Fucks in a uniform is damn offensive. And the fact that they desecrate it with their stupid group name is even worse.
ReplyDeleteDidn't little Schaeffer Cox like to wear WIFE BEATERS?!
ReplyDeleteI am an Oath Keeper. Come to a meeting and see what we are really about. This article is full of misinformation. Namely we do not want any form of crisis or injury brought upon anyone. I do realize that people will believe whatever they want, and usually once that idea has been ingrained, that is what it is to them. The real efforts of the CPT teams is to have a community come together and be self suffient and rely on each other, people that you know, rather than FEMA. Another thing is the organization is apolitcal, not anarchist. Having no government goes against the Constitution, thus anarchy is not one of our beliefs, and is something that is not tolerated. This is about being proactive within your community and helping, instead of sitting around in case of a disaster. It is about working with the Sheriffs, and other LEO's to aid in food and water distribution, and to help secure areas if need be. But that is something this article does not show. It is up to you to decide what you want to believe.
ReplyDeleteThose that have commented on what they think of OK... have you spoken to one? The whole "liberal vs conservative" paradigm, with the respective talking points, does nothing to improve our situation. Meet your neighbor, talk to your neighbor, help your neighbor, ... this is tre paradigm I support.
ReplyDeletewow, for someone who doesnt know anything about the Oathkeepers, you sure as hell write alot about the oathkeepers. I am not an Oathkeeper but i support them being prior service military. The purpose behind the oathkeepers is not telling service men NOT to follow orders from the president, it is telling members to remember their oathes of service. It is to uphold and defend the constitution of the United States against ALL enemies FOREIGN and DOMESTIC. That means not firing on US citizens and not following unlawful orders. You know, upholding and keeping HONOR, something you liberal pond scum would know nothing about because they dont hand out HONOR with the ebt cards and free government phones, so go back to sucking obamas cock and leave being a real american to the proffessionals.
ReplyDeleteLEO/Military personnel are informed if/when they follow unlawful orders they will be held personnally accountable... took an oath to defend the constitution... that oath does NOT have an expiration date. (You've probably heard 'once a Marine, always a Marine' ?). Well after reading this blog and read what others said, I researched the Oath Keepers and agree with putting veterans' skills to work helping their local community in times of need... so I joined. If it becomes something else, I'll post it here. As far as anti-Obama, seems to me Oath Keepers (and many other groups) know that circumventing congress and mis-truths from the president is unacceptable! Sounds like the questionable executive orders signed by W Bush instigated the Oath Keepers. Simply modifying ACA with a pen, absent consent from THE law makers is a violation and grounds for impeachment.
